Crazy Little thing called Love was written by Freddie as a homage to Elvis. It was actually written and performed after Elvis's death but a lot of people swear Elvis sang it :) Freddie reportedly wrote it in about 10 minutes while taking a bath. :)

I had tickets ....connections at the BBC....but started my new job as a newly qualified nurse 2 weeks before. Imagine my surprise to find myself the only qualified nurse rostered on the whole paediatric unit for that Saturday.....The new colleagues I gave my tickets to were kind enough to bring me back a t shirt, which I still have and will wear on the anniversary. Even watching it on tv was amazing.

I fell in love with Queen in 1974. I am 71 now and still in love. What you are smiling at is pure talent and musical ability. No computers then, auto tune, etc. Clean, great music that will live on.

I'm 60 this year and I bought my first album "Sheer Heart Attack" when I was 11....and met Dr Bri backstage a few years ago and got to give him a sixpence I'd kept since I was a kid! Life still has its magical moments!!!!

Not true though eh. This had a charity thing behind it. And this was the most iconic 20 minutes ever. But the idea that people never had big nights out is rubbish. Sounds like it was better in my day from an old man. The people is the 60s said that about the 80s. I was 14 when this happened, had plenty of nights out after this when I got older.

Brian May played guitar for Lady Gaga's song "You and I" both on her album and on the MTV music awards in 2011 from her Born this Way album. The song samples We will Rock you. ❤
I think it was actually one of her early producers who coined the name. But definitely true that she is a huge Queen fan and took so much inspiration from them.
@@PradaWest I heard that it was a mistake in her printed out set list. She was going to sing "Lady Marmalade", followed by "Radio Gaga", but when she printed out the set list, it just said "Lady Gaga" and she thought, "I like that!".
Elvis died in 1977. Freddie wrote “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” in 1979, so Elvis never even got to hear it or sing it. But you can hear Elvis’s voice coming through Freddie in this performance. 💕(yes you can if you listen!).

Seen by tens of thousands in person, broadcast to America in a stadium at the same time and globally watched via satellite by MILLIONS... it's estimated that approximately 20% of the f**king planet watched this together. Queen knew the stakes and they were well-rehearsed and ready compared to many other artists that did this gig. This is known as the greatest live musical performance in history by many people, myself included. Keep in mind this was NOT a Queen concert, but a collection of the world's best groups and Queen absolutely stole the show. The passion, conviction and soul they put into their music and live performances was incredible and honestly emotional and moving for their fans.

I was 7. I watched every minute with my mum and my big brother. It was amazing.
The audience was nearer 2 billion on a planet which at the time had just 4.5 billion of us circling the Sun.
I was gifted a ticket to this for my birthday, from my cousin.
I was 19 at the time (to be 20, 10 days later). I was in the seats (I'd rather have been on the pitch though). I was 2 rows down from the royal box...and I can tell you now, Diana had a fucking ball (I think Charlie might have clapped his hands once or twice).
It was and still is one of the best days of my life. I still get goose pimples watching this.
Sadly I no longer have the ticket or the souvenir programme (lost in a house fire...along with a 40 year vinyl collection).
Queen were, without a doubt, thee best act of the day.

I know how you feel about losing a vinyl collection. Lost a lot including my own collection from a twister in 22. Inherited the collection from my parents. Lost a lot of other things, but so it goes. :/
Of course, POW had a ball...that was right up her alley. And Duran Duran was there , her favourite band it has so often been claimed. Charles, many of the acts were his age, but he was never known to be into any popular music. It has also been claimed that this concert is the reason for the 2007 Concert for Diana, 10 years after her death......it has been the inspiration for her sons to have a memorial concert and use it to raise money to support her favourite causes.
I was watching the concert from home, where I live it's almost halfway between both locations. I am surprised that the concert is not still being used to make money for famine relief. If they put out a video of the concert, in full or highlights, I am sure there are a lot of us who would still buy it....memories of the summer I turned 17.
Live Aid was a charity concert to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia with several famous acts who volunteered to participate and didn’t get paid. Each act had a 20 minute set. A lot of the other performers played their current songs to promote their albums and didn’t take advantage of the time.
Queen took the Live Aid charity seriously and spent a week or so putting their playlist together and they had giant clocks in front of them so they could practice and pack as much in as they could in 20 minutes. It also helped that the sound guy worked for Queen and tweaked it so that Queen was louder than everyone else.
By the middle of the set, the other acts backstage started to watch them on the monitors and realized that Queen was stealing the show and basically kicked everyone’s ass and they knew it!! Brian May (guitarist) said that they had an advantage because they’d been playing stadiums for years and Freddie knew how to get the crowd involved.
Many people say it’s the best live performance. Also, because the stage was pretty basic due to all the different artists, critics didn’t think Queen would pull it off because their shows are typically a huge production with lighting etc. and again Queen shut down the critics proving that they can put on a great show with just the four of them.
David Bowie who was a big star back then was the next act in the lineup and was quoted in an interview later that backstage he was saying how was he supposed to follow that. But he said it more colorfully.
When they left the stage, Elton John was quoted as saying 'Freddie, nobody should go on after you - you were magnificent. ' Freddie said: 'You're absolutely right, darling, we were - we killed them.

Queen didn't volunteer. Geldof included their name with the others, at the press conference next to Harvey Goldsmith, before Queen had even agreed to do it.
Bowie is the only one who could have gone on immediately after that ... RIP David and Freddie

They weren't even supposed to be performing at Live Aid. This was totally unexpected when they came out on stage. Someone asked Freddie what instrument he played. His response was, "The audience, darling! ". This performance is proof. They owned the entire world for this performance! 😊😊😊

@@seandelaney1423 I do remember that he had a throat infection and doctors warned him not to perform, but he did it anyway. And then there was Elton john, after the set, stormed in to the changing rooms yelling "YOU BASTARDS, YOU STOLE THE EFFIN SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I’ve wondered many times what it must feel like. I’ve tried to imagine it and my brain shuts down 😂 it would be bloody incredible - in the absence of suitable ways to describe it.
The drummer, Roger Taylor is also an excellent vocalist. He wrote and performed I’m in Love with my Car which was the “B” side to Bohemian Rhapsody. His performance of this song at the 1981 Montreal show is worth a watch.

It is not even a 'Queen loving' audience particularly - they came to support the urgently arranged charity effort. Queen had fans but not all rockers rated them and they had been 'off the boil' prior to L.Aid, yet this unpaid 20 minutes of a unique, all day, worldwide broadcast brought them, rightly, everlasting admiration and respect.

They timed their performance perfectly and had only 3 seconds to spare. Perfection.
From the minute he runs out onstage, you cannot take your eyes off Freddie. He is mesmerizing. A music journalist who followed Queen from the very beginning said that she had once seen Freddie put arm straight out, turn it over palm up, and the whole audience just stood up together. Who else could possibly do that? I also love that he went over and thanked the camera man for being such a good sport and dancing with him.

I went to a Bird of Prey event and the guy introduced a falcon as Freddie. I asked him if by any chance the bird was named after Freddie Mercury and he said yes because the falcon was such a performer.

Freddie had 70,000 fans in the crowd and 1.5 billion watching in his hands that day. I barely left the house during Live Aid and my Dad and I were watching when Queen was introduced. I was already a huge Queen fan already but by the end of this performance so was my Dad. Freddie's doctor told him that he shouldn't do Live Aid because he was sick and could ruin his vocal chords but Freddie said that this was the biggest event in history and Queen would be performing. A Freddie 70% is better than most people at 100%. So glad Freddie told his doctor NO. Best 20 minutes of music ever. Queen pulled in more money for their performance than the others total

Freddie performed this against doctor's orders! He was sick & his vocal cords were affected (Aids). He rested them for 1 week and got out there and did that performance!!! That is definitely what he was born to do! Thanks! Your reaction was heart felt.

Freddie DID NOT have AIDS during this. He was diagnosed in 1987. The movie got ALOT of things wrong.
Pretty sure he wasn’t diagnosed until 1-2 years after this performance. He did have laryngitis though. He also always had glasses of tea with honey during shows
this is insane. I remember watching live aid live. even through the tv it was an amazing life altering event. The world of music coming together for a single cause - we haven't seen anything like it since.

Freddie had this gorgeous voice but his charisma was also just enchanting. Every member of Queen were serious musicians that were known for rehearsing more and doing more sound checks than other rock bands. They took their jobs seriously. They all wrote hit songs too. This band was oozing with talent. Check them out live at Hammersmith Odeon, The Rainbow, Hyde Park, Wembley Stadium and of course Montreal 1981. There are many hidden gems in their albums too.

And a twenty minuet set that came in within a couple seconds, despite the song compressions and the "ad libs" - Roger Taylor kept them on the beat - a professional masterpiece. I'm old enough to remember this, it's become almost normal now to see an audience in sync with an artist but this was absolutely breathtaking to watch because it was rare to have that many people respond in perfect time with each other. You're right, he had them eating out of his hands.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned, but in Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian plays 3 different guitars in that short couple of minutes. Starts with acoustic, then moves to the black one, then on to red for the finish. Thanks for reacting to this show. It's so epic!
When this aired live in 1985 there was a 14 year old girl just 15 miles away watching from her living room absolutely loving it.
That girl was me and I remember it vividly.
It's a bittersweet joy to watch Freddie. Such a great performer and sad he is no longer with us.

The whole band are genius. The lead guitar guy has been voted best of all time a couple of times. He's right up there a best of all timer. Freddie has been voted best Frontman of all time. Even many of his peers say he's the best. The likes of none other than Axl Rose have said it.

As far as Crazy Little Thing…you are not the only person that thought it was an Elvis song. I’ve seen many people on yt that swore they saw Elvis perform it. I love seeing young people discovering Queen for the first time, but I love it even more when I run across young people who already know and love them. As long as there are platforms like UA-cam and people like you who keep Queen in front of people, they will never die. One suggestion - you really should check out their live performance of "White Queen" in 1975 in Hammersmith. It will truly break your brain.

I had the honor of seeing Queen live in 1980 at the Los Angeles forum.....then again at the same place in 2015 with Adam Lambert. There is only one Freddie and Adam didn't even try to imitate. Respect.

That is what I call music! 4 members of a band, each of them genious in their way. Together they were dynamite! The voice of Freddie is out of this world. Even scientists has been looking in to that, amazed that he could use his voice as an instrument. 4 octaves, the most singers have up to 3 octaves. A friend turned me on to Queen when I was a teenager, and I am 62. I still love them! Nobody put on a show better. However, seeing the documentary of Queen with Adam Lambert... it was like watching Adam channel the soul of Freddy Mercury. I highly recommend doing a reaction to Adam doing a Queen song with Queen.

They had a Queen performance during the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, 4 vans with screens playing a recording of Freddie, even 30 years after his death he still had the crowd in the palm of his hand. One of the few musicians who can really claim the title of Legend.
I sat all day by the telly and saw all this consert. What a wilde memory!

I watched this live with my high school boyfriend and all our friends in Texas. We watched the UK and USA concerts Live. Phil Collin’s played both concerts and arrived via helicopter at the last minute. It was such an event and so special. Queen was the highlight for me and why I miss the 80s. So much fun. My high school boyfriend is still one of my dearest friends. We are old farts now.
I’m sure others have mentioned it but Brian May, the lead guitarist is certainly worth kudos too as he is well respected as one of the very best in the world.

Don't miss "Barcelona" with soprano Montserrat Caballé, was written by Freddie for the Olympics in that city but sadly he passed away before but the song is beautifully, Freddie was a huge fan of opera, she was a Diva, a virtuous like Freddie, both became friends.. I love this concert. Thank you. Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love as a tribute to Elvis after he had already passed so Elvis never sang it. The studio version of this song is what you heard and thought was Elvis, I made the same assumption when I first heard it. I thought somebody was releasing some Elvis songs that had been recorded but never released. Freddie wrote this song in 10 minutes while taking a bath.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love wasn't any homage to Presley, and Mercury never ever claimed it was. They sometimes performed Jailhouse Rock live as a nod to him though.

He spoke about writing it in the bath, and that he'd been rehearsing dancing to it with The Royal Ballet, for an upcoming charity gala. Mercury was a name-dropper. He mentioned Sir Joseph Lockwood twice, but didn't once mention Presley. I wonder why?

My sisters and I were so lucky to be there and what a trip the whole of Live Aid was. Never anything like it before or since...Queen was my absolute fav (and everyones...) followed by U2, Geoge Michael, Sting and Bowie. As brilliant as they were everyone was far behind Queen and Freddie.
I miss the originality of the music, the song writing and singers. I wish the generations of today could have what we did in the 70s, 80s and 90s. It was so much fun, raucous, irreverent and creative.
All I can say is this: We tuned into Live Aid to see Queen and my God they blew the roof off. I can't say what I was feeling at the time but i can say that I knew it was special.
When he gets down on his knees with his microphone that's iconic pose . We can recognize him immediately .That you for your reaction to our Freddy Mercury RIP .

Please remember that although Freddie was an amazing front man with an incredible voice, the rest of the band are all extremely talented and all had fantastic voices. More than that, they are all incredibly respectful of eachother, especially in their private lives and all had a very great brotherly love and protectiveness for eachother, especially when Freddie sadly became so ill. These are the sort of role models we need today.

I watched this live as a teenager and even then knew the impact this performance would have on the world. I really hope you've watched bohemian rhapsody (the queen story) as it was outstanding and made us all appreciate Freddie and Queen more.
