How to Get Whisper of the Worm in Forsaken - A Solo Player's Guide (October 2018)

- This guide is for you solo players who don't have the Whisper and are struggling with beating the normal version since Forsaken has dropped. With the new ammo economy, majors are no longer guaranteed to drop heavy ammo, which makes this mission infinitely more difficult. So how do you beat it solo with no heavy drops? That's what I'm showing you today.
This was recorded on an xbox.

There is literally no reason to get this gun, they nerfed it when they moved slots around and the dmg perk was destroyed because people were stacking it with the void cannon
you're thinking of the EP sniper, which was changed to solar because of the tractor cannon stacking (along with the box breathing nerf.) The Whisper was actually buffed several times, once in update 2.0 and then again when forsaken came out. recently, it got a slight nerf to it's base damage, but it's whispered breathing perk via it's catalyst is unchanged, and still allows the gun to do the most damage out of every weapon in the entire game.
The hardest part,
is waiting for the event
I waited for an hour until it spawned, seems like it doesn't like to spawn when you're in the area. I just stay on another planet or in orbit until I see it spawn.

It’s also worth mentioning there are NO HEAVY AMMO drops in this mission anymore. At least not in heroic anyways, so always rally a flag before going in & save it for the final encounter. Hope this helps👌🏼
Last time I went through it, there were no heavy or even special ammo drops. All primary. I ended up just using Fighting Lion after I ran out of special ammo.
I just did it yesterday and saw heavy ammo drop twice. Though it might be because one of my teammates had heavy ammo finder. But it does happen but don't bet on it saving you.

There is heavy drops but they are pretty rare i got heavy drop in last room
Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I was able to solo it after 20 or so tries, mostly because of your tips.
The only thing I wish I could fix is the Knight boss hiding behind the pillar. He stayed out longer on the attempt that I killed him, but he immediately ducks back there most of the time.

It says Go figure/Midnight Coup, Fighting Lion/Polaris Lance, and Sins of the Past/Sleeper stimulant. Here you could use Midnight Coup, Polaris Lance, and Sins of the Past. Also he never said that Polaris Lance has to be exotic so you could also make Midnight Coup, Polaris Lance, and Sleeper Stimulant. Still a good setup. So calm down, and stop being a jerk.

JoRoWi83 you found two bricks during the mission? That’s really weird, because I’ve been seeing a lot of things about the mission being glitched and not dropping any heavy ammo. It sounds like it might just be that the drop rate is incredibly low then, and you got pretty lucky
Have two heavy ammo finders on and get them about two per big room(around three rooms, I think?), so it's just that they lowered the heavy drop rate.
It’s amazing how you’ve managed to do all of this despite console shortcomings like 30 FPS cap, gamepad aiming and having to wait for the character screen to load. Good job!
Me and my friend have tried to duo-hunter it 5 or 6 times now on PC (and your video is a huge help), but still no luck. The amount and toughness of enemies is overwhelming, and their attacks are so distracting, ugh.

Exactly. How dumb is that. I clicked on a video on how to beat the whisper and the damn fool was using the whisper sniper, I was like WTF. This video will help me a lot now because I made it to the second room but time was not on my side.

Yeah we doing it big out here. It's so satisfying to pull off challenges solo abd I hope they keep these style missions coming. We solo Whisper, Shattered throne, Zero hour, 100k Nightfalls and even raid phases. Well I never tried the raid stuff in D2 but I did solo Crotas End raid in D1 and it was the best feeling and most memorable moment in a video game i've ever had besides all my Soulsborne moments. I love the solo subset of the Destiny community, we are a bunch of beasts!!
InfoBroker really tryna grind my way into that league. Just finished did my ace of spades a few days ago (been an off and on player for awhile but I beat forsaken earlier this year then came back for shadowkeep) and today got the sleeper. Think I’m gonna tackle the whisper next. Honestly pretty intimidated however I don’t have a choice cuz nobody I know plays 😂

Me and my clan will help you with what is needed, and may carry throughout many things, maybe raids! I used to be a solo player, but persuaded my friends to play Destiny (1) now it’s their favourite game, and are amazing at it. (We do D2 as well duh)

Thank you for running this on hunter! :D Most of my friends have stopped playing Destiny other than one friend. Me and him can get to the final boss room, but we are still working on getting there with enough time to kill the bosses. He's not the best player or good with jumping so I do end up having to carry him which can be challenging to do. Usually I have the 1st room cleared out when he finally gets down there in time for the 2nd room. Sometimes we do get stuck on the 2nd room. I think I need to work on getting some of those weapons you mentioned and thank you for putting together this video without using Whisper.
I salute anyone who can beat this solo !! After 6 or 7 attempts, I just don't think I'm good enough to beat it solo !! I'm ok with that (well, not really. It sucks, but I have to accept it !! Like Dirty Harry said: " A man has to know his limitations.")
In the second room there is a cave on the right. Go to the back and the adds will be forced to come straight at you and are easy kills with solar weapons. You can the go to third room and arch strider you way up the right side and clear out almost all the adds.

I watched this several times, but I ended up finding someone else who was doing the same thing waiting for the event so we fireteamed up and smashed this mission. Thanks for all the help, I don't think I could've done it without this video
Sleeper makes great work of those bosses. Its so sad to see bungie nerfed heavy ammo drops in PvE. Great video despite editing flaws. Its quite helpful. Wish I knew so I have gotten my whisper masterworked sooner without help.

Heck yeah! Been hoping to find a solo guide for this. Thanks for delivering! My fireteam is pretty casual, so this has been a little difficult (especially for our guy who hates jumping puzzles). I'll follow your recommendations this weekend and see if I can solo it.

@@kelgiogg9111 to get the catalyst you need to complete the heroic version and to complete it you need to get blighted essence, you get 24% for completing the mission and 2% for the chests and another 2% for shooting oracles. You can do everything ones per week so you need to do it 3 weeks In a row.

Doing all of this and having lfg players or some casuals to help can also be beneficial at times
After 3 years i see this in my recommendations, good times
This is a huge achievement if you can solo it but it's just not practical. It's much better to just go on destiny LFG or the app and look for other players also going for the whisper. A lot of them don't even use mics so if you have social anxiety or something along those lines you don't even have to talk with them, just people to simply help you kill along the way and in turn you'll help them; not to mention a lot of them (including myself) already have the whisper and just like helping other people.

@JoshIsOneCoolKid Wouldn't use D1 as an example for satisfying solos... Soloing sleeper is probably harder than soloing all of crota lul.

I legit have no idea why nobody else ever mentions the little details like "this is what the dreaming city will look like at max curse" or "whisper of the worm is only available on weekends so dont waste your time looking during the work week" Id like to thank you for being the first guide ive seen to clarify that so I didn't spend hours looking for a boss that wasn't going to spawn.

Freckles9510 its true look in the patch notes yesterday I did it twice yesterday “Whisper on Io now spawns more often” which meant on other days other than weeekend
Bottom tree gunslinger with Celestial Nighthawk has also a really good synergy with Polaris Lance in the final boss phase.

I finally completed this in season 10. By then my light level was so high ~960 that I ran through this with a MIDA Multi-Tool initially for the movement boost before switching to a Steelfeather Repeater and just spraying everything in my way. I only did this now because I didn't know what the trigger for this event was.

For warlock, Polaris lance, well of radiance, and lunafacation boots helped me a lot in the last room.
Le Monarque DoT melts the bosses really fast, and it has a good drop chance at Volundr Forge with a Frame. I already got it 2x from 5x succesful Forge ignition
done over 20 forges on 3 chars ( so over 60 forges, and no bow drop)

I actually found that using a kinetic bow made quick work of ads and the snipers. Sleeper would definitelu be nice, but tractor cannon works phenominally. Its effect applies to the blights and the bosses, melting them if you can get sustained damage like coldheart or a good auto rifle. I got to the final room solo as warlock, which im pretty proud of.
For other warlocks out there, using the arc class with as much discipline as possible for the nades. Make sure top tree is selected.
I then used the black armoury bow in my kinetic, a solar energy, and the tractor cannon. Any void will do though.

Good watch, I'd add that if you have a malfeasance-use it. I used it for just about EVERYTHING. Pairs well with a triple tap sniper or a crooked fang
OMG I JUST SOLO'D WHISPER AND FINALLY GOT IT!! The darn Knight boss was easy but man he kept screwing me up by staying behind that pillar and not budging so I just made some suicide charged nades and power nade launcher attacks to finish him and my nova came back just in time with 10 seconds left to wipe him.

Out of all the guides on this, you're literally the ONLY PERSON who mentions the fact that this ONLY HAPPENS on reset day. You have no idea how long I've just been sitting in this area on IO wasting my life away

There is a power cap, 20 light above will do the same as 20000 light above but anything below (for this) 420 will be less powerful

Great video, just going to point out one misconception. It is not that us players on PC have much less recoil, recoil values are the same. It is that it is much easier to control recoil with a mouse than with a controller.

Are you sure about that? If i remember correctly in one of the bungie videos they said they tuned the recoil way down for weapons on pc because it would have been extremely annoying to try and fight recoil with a mouse, whereas its natural on a controller.
I could be wrong but having played the pc version myself during the beta it definitely felt like there was hardly any recoil.

Nope, pc has no recoil and no AA when consols has lot of recoil and AA, u can try that on pc by using controller if u want

Is there an updated guide for this solo? I noticed that the mobs don't seem to be behaving in the same way as this guide describes, AND heavy ammo drops, so I guess they've changed it?

This challenge had to be made more difficult since this video because it’s nothing like how it is now, Im 650, and get annihilated just by the first room, and so on if I make it to the boss room, the vandals constantly throw blight and constantly put shields up non stop and stand in them, the bosses constantly throw blights, and run and hide. It’s ridiculous how psychotic this game was made

I'm still waiting for someone to do that on warlock. There are actually tons of hunter solo completions on youtube without whisper. Pop that op arc super and everyone dies. Funny watching ehroar pop a warlock stormtrance and take a lifetime to kill 2 adds before a pathetic death.
