I'm learning ukulele by myself these days, and thanks to all of you, I've learned something really useful. I want to say thank you for letting me not fall into stereotypes.
Hi, I'm so glad I found you. I love to sing jazz and I normally sing to backing tracks. I play a few instruments and recently bought myself a lovely ukulele. Today I thought I'd search for some jazz chords for the uke and your explanation makes it accessible and reachable. This video is a game changer! Thank you so much.
C6 = 0000 G6 = 0202 Bbmaj7 = 3210 Chord progression Cm7 = 3333 F9 =2333 This could work on and fret just bar it then move the finger on the G string down by one
Thank you! Funny I am a beginner and it takes time to remember, learn chords, so recently was experimenting with just hitting different imaginary chords to experiment. Some were interesting kind of had an art rock potential. And I did not know some are called jazzy )))
Sure, Mary. Chapter 1 is bluesy and fairly straight-ahead material. Chapter 2 dives into songs that have less-predictable, more angular chord progressions. Chapter 3 is all about improvisation and Chapter 4 is called "Anything Goes" for a reason! There's a full course outline here: www.uketropolis.com/jazz (scroll to the bottom of the page to the FAQ section).
Best music lesson I’ve ever seen, regardless of the instrument: Make good sounds however you can and don’t get hung up on the theory (that can come later if you’re interested). We PLAY music not WORK music.
Thanks for the feedback… my goal was to do exactly that! The Ukulele Jazz course is more in-depth but with the same relaxed, un-intimidating approach to learning.
@@jameshillmusiq Brilliant thanks. I'm sure I'll buy the full course anyway. I've had the book for the last 3 years and always take one jazz piece for my exams so this is just up my street.
@@jameshillmusiq Thanks for sharing this. Please keep posting 'ukulele videos my online instructor and friend, James Hill. In return, UA-cam will give you payments for sharing. Good way to get income for musicians who were in quarantine. More importantly, you could help more Ukulelist to explore the possibilities of the 'ukulele by posting videos. Stay safe✌️
Hello James, thanks so much for that. I'm on Booster Uke and now I'll have the wonderfully agonizing choice of this or the Ukulele Way afterwards. Life used to be so simple. If you get a chance I'd love to know why 1) B flat major 7 sounds so mournful if it's a jolly major. And 2) Why they are called the Two Five. Thanks again! Lydia
Bit late, but the Bb major 7 is like a Bb major chord on the bottom, and a D minor chord on top. Major doesn't really mean happy, since it's the context that makes it sound happy. At lot of people will hear a minor 7 chord and say it sounds alot happier than a major 7, bcoz of the the way the top notes are major.
Its called a 2 5 because in the scale, the chords are the second or fifth chords in the scale, and this common little set of chords make the bread and butter for alot of jazz
HALP!! I need a good teaching video on how to play "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette - I need a sexy slow ballad style rather than some silly strumming country sounding version!
I am buying my second ukulele and planning on it being my last. I need recommendation of best ukulele to buy that will sound beautiful as I improve and learn to play. What are you playing? Do you recommend it over others you own? What do you recommend as a good final ukulele.? I play concert size.
As a guitar player i understand this method as an inversion of chord because uke have less strings than guitar and their tuning is higher so, the lowest note not always the root note.. it can be their triads or their extention (ex. 6th or 7th or 9th).. IMHO
Jazz chords in Guitar: *paralysis nightmare*
Jazz chords in Ukulele: *heaven*
😂😂 this made my day!!
Ukelele is not even a real instrument. It is just a toy

You play with it?
It's amazing what clever people can do with just toys isn't it?
Literally the best ukulele tutorial I’ve seen
yeah its totally chill and fun
It's weird to see an Ukulele player with a Suit on.
He's jazzing it up; pretty cool.
@@TheTangofrog ...boooo! but you get a thumbs up anyway
Especially one with 1980’s lapels!!
It’s quite common

4:46 to 4:56 is the heartwarming outro i ever heard. That is one of the only sound that my ears always find on a song

Hello. How is it going so far? I will start my Journey as from Feb 2024.
Are you using a concert uke?
The world needs more instructors like you sir.
