My little brother broke my guitar, so he bought me a ukulele so I can keep strumming. I thought of it as a substitute but then I saw part 1 and part 2 of this lesson and played along. It was fun. I'll play more of the uke for a while. Thanks for this beautiful lesson, sir.
No question, just wanted to say that you are honestly great and its brilliant how focused you are on making people be passionate about ukulele and how it doesnt feel like a chore to do but instead a fun hobby to try out and be creative and excited by
Wow! Thanks! Can't thank you enough. Been a gigging jazz vocalist for years. Always had great players so I didn't think much about playing... untill I got a uke in my hand! What fun! Got two bands here in NC but I want a band in the cities I travel to to visit my kids: Portland, Stockholm, Austin and Guanajuato MX. Weird thing is I've heard my father in-law and husband play the instrumental of this for decades and never heard it sung.
Purchased the Jazz course!!! I can't wait to start it. I have so much fun material to cover and learn. I really thank you James for putting together these courses. The lessons are so well thought out and I find them very motivating . You have a way of breaking things down and simplifying the lessons. I look forward every day to seeing what is next to learn. Also, thank you for the user- friendly and organized dashboard where we access all our classes in one place.
Wow, I used to play Satin Doll on the guitar with my Dad (jazz trumpeter) accompanying ... but this arrangement is so much simpler and equally beautiful! Thanks so much for the arrangement.
You MAKE me stay with it! I like that. Watched your jazz style strumming tutorial, now applying it to Satin Doll (strumming hand - short - long, short - long ... release fretting hand after the longer strum). Song committed to memory🤗 I’m excited!
Still able to follow along. Thank you for taking the time to explain this so well, James. I see now I need to invest in a proper uke with a wider neck.
Beautiful song and singing, just started to play jazz from your tutorials, normally play baroque lute music on ukulele and enjoying your music and lessons 🎶 🎶
This needs more views. It's an amazing professional tutorial, and you get the same quality from paid tutorials. I've seen so much about your ukulele playing and had no idea you made tutorials. Thank you!
You are the greatest!! Thank you so much for making ukulele playing so much fun. You rule!!! Best teacher ever! Plus, your singing is getting really good. Bravo
Thanks James, I've always loved this song. Your tutorial makes learning and playing Satin Doll for this beginner a real treat. I look forward to checking out uketropolis for more!
Fantastic teaching, fantastic playing, fantastic singing, and a fantastic song, what’s not to like? I was extremely impressed by how well everything was done in this lesson.
Keep posting videos of you and your 'ukulele tutorials. You could help a lot of people like me I'm not a Canadian, I'm a Pilipino but by watching your videos, you already helped me in a smart way. Also, by making more videos, UA-cam would give you payments. Good way for musicians to get income especially these days that social distancing is being implemented. UA-cam videos might save your career as musician. Thanks again and stay safe
I learned this song a few months ago. I love it! It's so easy yet impressive. I play it to show off sometimes. It makes me feel like I know what I'm doing. Lol. I know there's a few videos floating around out there. I didn't know the names of the chords. That's important to me. Thanks 👍😎✌️
Thank you so much for making this tutorial so easy to follow. Besides, your voice is amazing it lingers in my head I'd probably sleep with Satin doll playing. lol
Thanks for this amazing lesson James! Why does the name of the same chord (10th fret barre) change from Gm7 to Bb6 when played the second time around, for example: comparing Out cattin' vs satin doll?
Because in a full ensemble the bass part changes. The bass voice always dictates the name of the chord. Gm7 and Bb6 are the same notes: Gm7 is G, Bb, D, F from bottom to top and Bb6 is Bb, D, F, G, so we call those two chords inversions of one another (Bb6 would be the "first inversion" of Gm7, Gm7 the "third inversion" of Bb6). On instruments without a bass register (like the uke) you can play both chords in the exact same way because they contain the same notes.
Two of my favorite people. I’ve been playing ukulele for about a month and both of you have helped me more than you know. I feel like I owe both of you money 😂 thank you 🙏
Can we take a moment to appreciate how well James sings 👏👏 A true ukulele legend he is 🙏🙏
☺️
OMG, yes! Who cares what instrument he's playing - uke, voice, fiddle, piano, whatever.
I was just thinking that...
Yep , he can hold a tune .. So Jealous .. I can’t sing for shit ..Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent!!!
I love people that instead of selling you how good they are, they show you how easy it is to learn it too ❤️
Yep. A great teacher indeed.
Agree👍
The Bob Ross of Ukulele! Thank you! Great Tutorial!
Teaches satin doll. Makes a Glenn Miller pun. I approve of this

Love it Jimmy boy 🙌🏻 keep them coming 🙏🏻🏴
This is brilliant, thanks. 🙂🙏🏼
Have you tried all-4ths using a low G string. EADG. 3 tooop strings are from a set made for 5th tuning. Makes everything symmetrical.
Outstanding!
Hey this is so great! What an amazing job of showing how what looks hard can be approachable, and so musical to boot
Uuuuuhhhhhhh. I need that book!
