    This turned out perfectly. Silver foiled (Tin Woodswoman) I bought a pattern that didn’t work half as well. I used a serger and boom it was done in minutes. The measurements and marking them to the fabric took the most time. But now I just have to copy the one I have. Thank you for this. Awesome

    Great Video! Sharing it with friends! Wanted to make a note about stretch. You want to make sure the fabric stretches across the body for the body and sleeves. You want the stretch to go up and down for the diamond (gusset) piece. At the crotch, the body fabric doesn't stretch well when you bend. The gusset provides that stretch.

    • @ScottBayles
      @ScottBayles  8 років тому

      +Lem Apperson Thanks! That's true if your fabric is only 2-way stretch or has a significantly better stretch in one direction than the other. But if you've got a good 4-way stretch fabric, it's less of an issue.

    Is there anyway to combine 2 different colored spandex fabrics to do something like Green Lantern?

    • @ScottBayles
      @ScottBayles  7 років тому +2

      Yeah, absolutely. Once you cut out the front half of the bodysuit, simply sketch out the design using chalk or disappearing ink. Then cut along your lines and now you have pattern pieces to reproduce on the other color.

    Ok so I know I am super late to the party but I have to ask you something. On the zig zag stitches that you use, while making the body suit, you did not stretch the material while sewing it. It looks like, to me that while sewing it you allowed it to go through the machine as if it were regular non spandex material. Is that because of the zig zag stitches? I watched a video a while back and the person sewing spandex in that video used a straight stitch and they pulled the spandex material tight. So what's the best way to sew it?

And where did you get your fabrics from? Is there a link to a website you can share with us? 😁 Thanks in advance. 😁

    Amazing!! :D Definitely using this for my Blackest Night Flash bodysuit. Any tips for embellishments like the lightning bolts I'll need to add onto the suit? This is my first time using sewing for a costume and I don't want to have to glue or Velcro anything onto the outside. Also is there any way you could do a tutorial teaching how to make a Flash style mask out of spandex?

    • @ScottBayles
      @ScottBayles  8 років тому

      Thanks man! And, yes! I will be doing my next tutorial on how to make a Flash cowl from spandex. For the logo and the lightning bolts I would suggest sewing them on to just the outer layer of the bodysuit. Sew them on before sewing the two layers together.

  • @UnpimpYourAuto

    I would love to have a little more detail regarding the zipper install. It looks like you end with the zipper being attached to the outside surface, but the act of zipping it folds it into the inside of the costume. You don't need a second stitch line on the part of the zipper tape to keep things secure?

    • @ScottBayles
      @ScottBayles  8 років тому

      That's correct. The zipper is sewn face down on the outside of the costume, then when it is zipped it flips so that it is face up with the fabric folded in. I only do a second stitch if the zipper is in the front (and even that is just for looks).
