He transfered, sat out, his family moved halfway across the country, and he improved every year and came a long way. It's disappointing and not very fair for any athlete that finds themselves in that position though, no doubt.
97 is going to be a meat grinder at NCAAs with all the studs joining the weight this year. 2 junior world Champs in Elam and Amos. 2 Ivy League studs in Brucki (now with UM) and Darmstadt. Plus Dean up at 97. AJ moving up this list if he wins it again.

#1 Spencer Lee...2 time Hodge winner and 3time champ who bonus points nearly every match. #2 Gabel Steveson..Hodge trophy, only lost to 1 person in his career, recent Olympic champ, and no one on his level domesticly. Only losses ever where big10 final and ncaa final his freshman year to the same person. #3 yanni by your criteria, but he has not been the pound for pound westler at his weight even this year with multiple losses in free style. I personally think he is 5th. Lots of bonus points in a somewhat weaker conference, but doesn't dominate everyone. #4 Aaron Brooks As his career has moved on he has scored more points, and shown that there are only about 5 people in the ncaa even close to his level at the end of last year. If he continues his rise, I expect him to have maybe 5 close matches all year, and bonus points all the other matches. My #3. #5 David Carr and Austin O'Connor. They are both #4 and most likely the finalist of NCAA this year. Neither has a real rival in their conference, and the are about 8 people at this weight that can even stay in the match. Bonus over half their matches. Who is better will be settled at the end of this year barring injury #6. Nick Lee. Wrestled onto Olympic team over yanni. Handful at his level in NCAA, and a few in the big 10 that makes him bottom half. #7 A.J. Ferrari Won a title as a freshman, has the talent and drive to be super special, and an ego to boot. Exciting with only a few that can make it a match. Expect him to pick up even more bonus points as he matures in great setup for him. The rest can be any of the other NCAA winners only by your criteria, maybe Rby leading the pack but all have many good matchups in the ncaa, meaning they are to close to the rest of the pack to be a best pound for pound. Great job, love the wrestling hype as season is finally close.
Personally I feel the returning hodge winners should be 1-2 and like someone said yianni barely won his last ncaa title and tbh I feel Joey should’ve won. But I agree otherwise

Will agree. Both matches were extremely tight but Spencer won 2 and plus his 3rd one this season in completely dominance. Didn’t give up a takedown like Yianni has in his both finals appearances to both Bryce Meredith and Joseph(Joey) McKenna

It is more impactful in recruiting than super 32, the toughest high school national folk-style tournament. The answer is level of difficulty and level of competition. For guys that have not experienced the difference in difficulty from d1 to world class wrestling it is hard to translate this difference in difficulty. Put it this way, there are ncaa national champions who have wrestled on the world stage and not won a single match at that level. Ncaa champions with international senior level records of 0-12 or 3-11 or 2-14. The comparison is not even close.

Won states in the 8th grade at 105. 4 weight classes, he's at 156 now undefeated all five years, in the summers he goes back to Africa to wrestle wild wilder beasts (butt naked) he pins all of them this dude is wrestling wild beasts, he's no joke, he will be wrestling for Michigan in the fall. He says the milk of rhinos gives him superior power keep an eye on him for 2023. No joke he's built like a sliver back gaurilla

Versus common opponents Eierman is 41-8, Lee is 35-12. Head to head Eierman leads 2-1.
