How do you leave David Taylor off this list? 134-3 means nothing cause he only had 2 national titles?!? Are you serious? Kid made it to the national finals every year he was in college. C’mon man!!!
I think your process of only looking at national championships is too simplistic. David Taylor although only 2- time national champion, dominated for 4- years and was a 4- time finalist. I know he lost to Bubba and also to 4- time champion Kyle Dake. I think he deserves consideration for being a 4 time finalist. I don’t rank his college experience at the the same level at 4- timers Cael, Steiner, Kyle, but he’s higher than all the other 2 timers who were not 4 time finalist.
I'm guessing he just wanted to keep it concise but yeah he should have maybe looked outside of the parameters he set because there are definitely amazing wrestlers who just haven't gotten as many titles because they're in weight classes with a lot of great competition for example
andizzyJD12 Not Gilman. Just because he talks a lot-and I’m a fan-doesn’t mean his career was that impressive. Lizak, Moise, and Cruz all got to a final while he was wrestling. He’s better than all those guys.

One of the greatest wrestlers I ever grew up watching was Jesse Jantzen. finished his d1 carrer 131-13, 3 time all american, 1 time national champ in which he won MOW. In my mind had he not chosen to go to Harvard, he could have had a very realistic shot at being a 3+ NCAA champ. He was the first Harvard wrestler in 60 years to win the title
I know outside your parameters Carlton Haselrig 6 time NCAA champ. 3 AA and 3 A. Only wrestler to ever do that. He didn’t have a team in high school so wrestled as an independent. Won PA AAA states with a 10-0 record. Went to University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
This video made me think about you doing a video all the National champions and All Americans that came from the Lehigh Valley the great old district 11 of the great state of Pennsylvania
Another thing I believe is impressive about Cael Sanderson is he went up a weight class his senior year to try and help Iowa State win a national title as a team. While Iowa State did not win the team title, Cael's efforts helped and were very unselfish.
Should've based it off of accolades, so Hodge trophy winners should obviously be ranked higher than a vast majority of champions and win/loss records, pin falls, tech falls, win streaks, opponents wrestled should all play into account when ranking them
When Hasellrig was in college. He wrestledd Division 2. Back then if you won National title in your weight class, you were invited to Division 1 national tournament. Hasellrig won titles in Division 1 and 2 , 3 years in a row for a total of 6 titles. They changed the rules (some may refer to it as the Hasellrig rule). For good measure,He played NFL football, though because of injury he didn't play college football

Appreciate your video. However quick correction, Carl never got to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated due to a young child being killed by a hockey puck at an NHL game making the cover. I have it signed by Cael
I had the pleasure of watching Greg Jones (WVU) wrestle all throughout his career including juniors with Jones Wrestling Club and I personally think he is the best wrestler I have ever seen.
I thought this was about ranking, not just listing the multiple-times winners. The most impressive wrestler is Dake. He didn’t take a redshirt and won at four different weight classes. Cael was more dominant because of his attacking style, but he’d have multiple losses and maybe not be a four-timer had he not redshirted. The third best wrestler is David Taylor. I will take him over Stieber who lost to Jordan Oliver, but the ref chose to look the other way. I think it’s funny how people are saying that wrestlers are getting better and winning nowadays is harder, but we’re constantly getting four-time finalists and three-time winners. In the next three seasons, Lee, Cenzo, and Yianni will all either be there-time winners and/or four-time finalists.
You bring up a good point, Steeve. Maybe a rankings series will be a separate video because when you compare the times, opponents, redshirts, etc, then things do tend to get more interesting. That's especially in the Dake vs. Sanderson scenario. I still do believe that wrestlers are getting better and better every year, mostly considering the amount of training, access to facilities, better coaches (debatable), and other factors. Lee, Cenzo, and Yianni are all multiple time finalists, but none of them are undefeated, and none of their paths to the top was easy. That's just my opinion, but I appreciate you adding your feedback and thoughts - great discussion points!
Fanco Wrestling In wrestling, technique is still king, and I would argue that weight training has made a lot of wrestlers become stiff. And while only Cael went undefeated, wrestling is still more top heavy than ever before. The three guys I mentioned are hardly the best wrestlers in recent times-I’m a fan of Lee, but his career will not be as impressive as Nolf’s, Nickal’s or Zain’s. Again, he did forgo a redshirt season. If guys are getting that much better, then why are getting so many three-timers and four-timers?
Steeve Cantave part of the reason why we get more dominant wrestlers is the development of regional training centers at big schools. This is why the best wrestlers usually come from Penn State, Ohio state etc. The other reason has been the elimination of so many college programs in the last thirty years. There are much less wrestlers in division 1 than there used to be and less money going to a lot of the smaller programs as well.
Partly true. But wrestling really should be bigger than it is. What kills it is the lack of an opportunity to make a career out of it after college. How can the states of Texas, Florida, and others not have any schools with good wrestling programs? I would think that there’d be enough failed football and basketball players that would take the sport on. Sadly, it comes down to funding. Wrestling is a non-revenue sport and because of title IX, colleges have to divert funds to sports that can never grow enough to support themselves. Wrestling, though, does have enough of an audience unlike other sports.
Wake up, this record will be hard to break And for a black kid from Compton to do it without getting cheated will be even more of a miracle, yes some of the refs are that horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well before your list that started I. 1999, but I would like to see a comparison of Carlton Haselrig and Carl Sanderson. A six time NCAA champ with a career record of 143-2-1 has to amongst the best
carlton haselrig was the man. when i was a kid, i saw him at revco in latrobe during steelers training camp. i walked up to him and asked him advice on finishing takedowns. he stopped what he was doing, got a big smile on his face and said, "you're asking me about wrestling?" i said, "yeah. you're awesome at wrestling!" then we stood in the aisle of the store for 5 - 10 minutes talking about wrestling and he showed me a couple things. mostly to commit to my shot and go through my opponent, nothing earth-shattering, but it helped me out.
Great job really appreciate the effort but after mentioning all the Hodge recipients you would think That you'd known first amateur wrestler on cover of Sports Illustrated was the man himself Danny Hodge'
David Taylor not being mentioned is ridiculous he only had 3 losses and 2 of them were dake... the other was in the finals as a freshmen where he got caught against a senior lol... and he had 2 Hodge Trophies in the other 2 years ... his sophomore year he won 22 or 23-7 in the finals
Lololol why? While the people who preform in "professional" wrestling are definitely athletes, preform through all sorts of injuries and are definitely tough as nails, the matches are scripted and winners and losers are decided long before the "match" occurs.
You specifically said '99 and up, but Cary Kolat has to be atop any list, 2x'r but 3 or 4x finalist.. The guy was beating college wrestlers and winning the Midlands Championship while in high school.. Definitely top 5 greatest of all-time.. And Eric Guerrero honorable mention..
Agree. DT got caught and pinned his freshman year at NCAAs. Lost two close matches to Dake, and killed everyone else. He should be on that list. By the way, I enjoy this You Tube channel very much.

A little video making advice... Less camera on you and more on the subject matter. No offense, but the trend and future of videography is... people don't want to look at the speaker. At least that's my personal opinion.
Also, he was/is a fascinating wrestler to watch. Since high school very few elite wrestlers have been able to figure him out. He presents a difficult matchup for anyone because he’s smooth when he needs to be, rarely does anyone finish quality shots on him, and he’s so deceivingly explosive. He was an under appreciated wrestler in college and he’s just now getting credit for being a top tier wrestler internationally. It only took 2 world titles to get there.
You didn’t even get Marcus Levesseur in here. He was a 4x undefeated division 3 college wrestler and a personal friend of mine. He was a 4 time state champion in Minnesota and has been undefeated since he was a freshman in HS. He whipped everybody in division 1 including Matt Nagel and Luke Becker and the only reason he didn’t wrestle D1 is cause dumb Jay Robinson at the U of Minnesota wanted to redshirt him but Marcus didn’t want to do that so he went to Augsburg. Look him up
Robin Reed was never beaten ever. Routinely moved up 3 weight classes for dual meets and pinned everyone. Went on to win the 1924 Olympics and could pin the entire USA Olympic team.
Dake to me is the most impressive since he did it in 4 weight classes finishing at 165 and starting at 141. With 4 losses that's pretty impressive considering he had to learn a new weight cut each year and wrestle with guys of increasing size. Sanderson moved up once, I think I'd give him the nod if he had gone up to 197 a year earlier and then even went heavyweight his senior year.
Agree. Dake went through a different set of wrestlers every year, rather than beat the same guys every year. And taking a redshirt after losing means you still lost.
@@lukewillett3574 parsley still coaching? that's good to know. my nephew wrestles for derry. they lost to salem a few weeks ago. i was watching online from tennessee, but i couldn't tell who was who with all the masks on and everything.
David Taylor should have been on the list. I’ll also rank Kyle Dake as the most impressive college wrestler of all time. He may not gon undefeated but he is a four timer in four different weight classes all without taking a redshirt year! I don’t that stat will ever be beat... Oh and Jordan Oliver too! He technically should have won against Logan making him a 3x champion.
Did you say Nolf was 134-4? I’m almost positive that isn’t right. He lost twice his freshman year to Imar (Big 10 finals and NCAA finals) and that’s it. His junior season he had the injury default which would technically make it 3 losses total if you want to count that. But he only ever actually lost to one person in his entire career and never lost after his freshman finals. If I’m wrong someone correct me
Bro I know you don’t no much about Stephen Abas because you downplayed his absolute dominance and no one in the world could beat him at that time. 144 and 4 only lost once his sophomore year to Erik Guerrero. He was the king of funk started with Gerry Abas his brother...most kids are still to this day trying to replicate his pure skill. Henry Cejudo was mentored by Stephen who only beat him due to injury. Henry know who the best was and still is. Still to this day hasn’t given the respect he deserves. Ask Cael about Stephen and how close he watched his singles...
Bro your history of othe best lower weight wrestler who did a better more advanced low single who only lost 4 times an abas was you give dake a great props to win in one weight class is hard but still lost four times
Tom Brady just retired this week and he will fall into that catagory that only Cael has been put into. you can't call someone the Greatest college wrestler because Cael Sanderson exist. same for Brady, people will want to call someone else the great football player or quarterback but will have trouble because of Brady's 7 Super Bowl wins. younger wrestlers will simple do the only thing they can...simply not talk about Cael at all or belittle his accomplishments. Brady and Cael are debate stoppers, hence younger wrestlers will simply pretend they never happened. there may very well be a better college wrestler than Cael but if he doesn't go 160-0 and win 4 titles he's just an also ran.
I'm a jiujitsu guy but I have so much respect for wrestling despite never doing it but why does Jaden Cox look like a old man's head was attached to a young body
Why don't they show college wrestling on tv they show everything else but college wrestling all women's sports and all kinda off the wall stuff but no college wrestling... u say how good these guy's are but know one gets to see it

A little video making advice... Less camera on you and more on the subject matter. No offense, but the trend and future of videography is... people don't want to look at the speaker. At least that's my personal opinion.
Cael is numero uno by all standards
Can’t make a list like this without Spencer Lee as a 3x champ
J’den was a 4 time state champion at hickman hs
Also, he was/is a fascinating wrestler to watch. Since high school very few elite wrestlers have been able to figure him out. He presents a difficult matchup for anyone because he’s smooth when he needs to be, rarely does anyone finish quality shots on him, and he’s so deceivingly explosive. He was an under appreciated wrestler in college and he’s just now getting credit for being a top tier wrestler internationally. It only took 2 world titles to get there.
Do you know how many 4x state champs are out there???
You didn’t even get Marcus Levesseur in here. He was a 4x undefeated division 3 college wrestler and a personal friend of mine. He was a 4 time state champion in Minnesota and has been undefeated since he was a freshman in HS. He whipped everybody in division 1 including Matt Nagel and Luke Becker and the only reason he didn’t wrestle D1 is cause dumb Jay Robinson at the U of Minnesota wanted to redshirt him but Marcus didn’t want to do that so he went to Augsburg. Look him up
What did he do at the cadet and senior level? How did he do in the D1 open tournaments against D1 opponents?
@@jeffayers65 He beat all of them. Luke Becker, Matt Nagel....He beat all the champs in one tournament
Lmao he wouldn't have been undefeated if he had to wrestle D1 guys every match.
D3. Nuff said.
@@cincydooley What do you mean enough said?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont believe Ed Ruth ever won a hodge. Tough when Taylor was there at the same time to take that hardware home.
Robin Reed was never beaten ever. Routinely moved up 3 weight classes for dual meets and pinned everyone. Went on to win the 1924 Olympics and could pin the entire USA Olympic team.
No one cares... that was almost 100 years ago. I will make a bet that like all other sports athletes have gotten massively better since the 1920s...
Ben askren and david taylor are some of the best 2 timers ever!
They are for sure some of the top wrestlers, and most dominant wrestlers, over the last 20 years. And they were a lot of fun to watch!
Mark Churella won 3x titles...took third as a freshman....
Churella was pinned by Dave Schultz at NCAAs, but the ref didn’t call it because he didn’t understand the move.
I’m not really educated in wrestling but like who is the contentious best wrestler , isit askren ?
did u really just say Steven Abas last name wrong the disrespect 6:27
Niners!!!!! AllDay well you spelled it wrong 🤣 Stephen Abas!
Stephen was the best, there’s a reason they don’t talk about who got he most takedowns in college, he’s way ahead of everyone.
Greg Jones went to my high school :)
are you related to raistlen willett? i used to work with him at dino's.
@@hoopsmccann639 no haha, I’ve never heard of him.
@@lukewillett3574 ok. just a coincidence then. raistlen also wrestled for salem. i thought there might be a connection.
@@hoopsmccann639 I’ll have to ask Randal parsley about that one
@@lukewillett3574 parsley still coaching? that's good to know. my nephew wrestles for derry. they lost to salem a few weeks ago. i was watching online from tennessee, but i couldn't tell who was who with all the masks on and everything.
David Taylor?
Spencer Lee? He had 2 when you made this but now he has three.
Pardon my butchered spelling.
David taylor?? Spencer lee?? Both deserve mentioning
I would put Ben Askren, David Taylor and Anthony Robles on this list
David Taylor should have been on the list.
I’ll also rank Kyle Dake as the most impressive college wrestler of all time. He may not gon undefeated but he is a four timer in four different weight classes all without taking a redshirt year! I don’t that stat will ever be beat...
Oh and Jordan Oliver too! He technically should have won against Logan making him a 3x champion.
i’m pretty sure mark and dave schultz were on the cover of sports illustrated
This list changes a lot if you give Jordan Oliver that takedown!! Haha Pa wrestling fan here
Glad he got rid of that weird mustache👍
Cal, Dake 1 and 2. No debate!
Bro your history of othe best lower weight wrestler who did a better more advanced low single who only lost 4 times an abas was you give dake a great props to win in one weight class is hard but still lost four times
I think you have to have David Taylor on this list.
Just off the record mention Carleton Hasellrig
What about David Taylor is he a three timer?
2 timer
DT is only a 2Xer, but he is for sure a dominant wrestler.
Still no Iowa st lineup preview but Iowa st on the thumbnail I'll take it
Hey, Ty I've seen you asking for this the last few weeks - thanks as always for commenting. You're going to like what's coming this week. . .
@@FancoWrestling Oh hell yes thank you!
The lead up to your lists are agonizing
Why does he have such a hard time saying ncaa lmao
I'm a jiujitsu guy but I have so much respect for wrestling despite never doing it but why does Jaden Cox look like a old man's head was attached to a young body
Built with used parts
Greg Jones is the best I’ve ever seen.
Time to add Gable and Spencer Lee.
Iowa st lineup preview pls
Lookout for Iowa State preview coming this week. . .
You should have listed the weight classes
Why don't they show college wrestling on tv they show everything else but college wrestling all women's sports and all kinda off the wall stuff but no college wrestling... u say how good these guy's are but know one gets to see it
Ed Ruth never won a hodge winner
correct Taylor was the one hat won two from that team
if youre 140 and 3 the competition cant be that good
Where's David Taylor?!
Jacob Berkley hes a two timer
How is Anthony Robles not on this list? He won a chip with ONE LEG
He is 170lb body type that wrestles 125lb wrestlers. Huge advantage. He by far was not handicapped by his leg.
Because one title is not nearly as impressive as three lmao
ISU takes #1 baby
Go Cyclones!
You certainly prioritize college wrestling over USA Olympic team. Pretty odd, but to each their own.
i think college is more exciting, but i don't really like freestyle.
It's based on college careers
You over-communicate. You use 100 words to communicate something that should take 10 words communicate. Also, you keep adding your personal opinions to every stat. Just deliver the stats and data, and keep your personal opinions to yourself.
It's his channel, if you don't like it then don't watch.
Always leaving Ed Ruth out 🤦🏾♂️
Ruth is definitely an impressive wrestler also
He mentioned Ruth
“What’s up my names jzzzzzzzziah”
