I've just finished a model with a lot of lights, and this tutorial came just in time! Imma try this RIGHT NOW
Cool! Hope it helps!!
Don't use contact shadows, instead in the light properties, open shader, then under Clip Start there should be bias, and just turn in all the way down. It makes the effect work much nicer :D
thanks for the info!
@@RyanKingArt even better, use both contact shadows AND turn the bias to 0.
@@DiegoKeaneMusicif the contact shadow effect isnt significant you should turn it off as it can be quite taxing
@@Wittbore Yes good point
Wonderful tutorial. One of the best I've seen on this topic. Thanks!
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching.
Wonderful channel! Your tutorials are always very clear, concise and helpful. Added this to some renders and they look far better.
thank you Jay!
Just cannot thank you enough.! Thank you so much as I was struggling with dull Eevee renders from quite a long time. Your video saved my life, thanks a Millions!! I have gone thru may videos for dull Eevee render solution but nothing helped me and renders remained the same but your video provided me appsolut prompt solution that i needed and now my renders are as bright as i needed. Thank you so much :)
This really helped me a lot!, especially with volumetric lighting it made my whole scene look really dynamic!
Glad it helped!
Thanks, my render looks a lot better now! Still have some work to do on shadows at a small scale but overall much improved
glad it helped!
I cannot thank you enough. you saved my hours of research how to add reflections! i am glad that i saw your video. really worth it. also, new sub.
Glad it helped!
Really helpful tutorial for Eevee renderer studying! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice one, appreciate the work you put into it
you're welcome! thanks for watching! 👍
Love your tutorials! Keep it up!
Thanks!
Whenever I search for something. I first check to see if it's covered by you. If so, I'm 100% sure your lesson will teach me all I need. Thanks bro. :D
glad my tutorials can help!
Man, this tutorial is great! I just recently discovered your channel and I will most definitely be subscribing and checking out your other blender videos -- many thanks!
thanks for watching!!
This was such a clear and helpful tutorial, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a lot for all your time and work for those videos! ☺
thanks for watching.
You did a very good job clearly explaining these settings in Blender Eevee. I like you're calm pase. The only thing I would do differently, is in the light settings at 5:27 is Not turn on contact shadows, but instead turn down the Bias instead. The reason being, that contact shadows are a screen space based effect and can get glitchy results in certain viewing angles. Everything else seemed perfect however and this makes a great resource for up and coming blender artists wanting to use Eevee to render.
thanks for the info 👍
I just started blender and your channel has been giving me answers to what i did not understand before....thanks a lot 🖖
glad my videos can help!
5:30 I guess you've learnt this from my coment, and i'm glad you included this. Thanks! ^^
Also congratulations to 80-Thousand Subscribers. I don't have anything much to say tho. Just that i honestly don't watch every of your new videos, but can say they're still Very Good, and you are Very Good Teacher. 🙂🤗
Thanks! I can't remember you commenting about that, but I do get a lot of comments and reply to all of them, so its hard to remember all of the comments I get. 🙂
Very helpful!
Glad to hear that 👍
my city scene looks good now without much render time needed! thanks!
Glad it helped!
BROOO thankyou so much, this really helped and the tutorial was really easy to use as well :)

All this time i was rendering with cycles, but the shadows always came out weird, this helped me set eevee to my prefered settings and will now use eevee!

Also whats your cpu and gpu? It would have been interesting to see the render time difference between cycles and evee.@@RyanKingArt
Bro you are God of Blender
lol thank you : )
Muchas gracias
you're welcome!
Nice 🎉
thanks!
Wonderful thanks for the tutorial, can you please make one for interior design
thanks for the tutorial idea. maybe I can do that sometime.
can we use this light baking technique for animation?
Very nice tutorial. One observation, for an emissive object (see the fluorescent tube) you have to turn off shadow casting on the object in Eevee. 👌
Thanks for the tip!
Great video! I have a problem however: I have a scene where I'm rendering the volume in a separate scene to mix in the compositor. But there's an object in the main scene that should be in front of a volumetric light, but instead the light remains in front how could I mask this light with the object ? Thanks for the help !!
Does this work with exterior scenes with sun light? The irradiance cube
will this work with an animation as well?
Baking the lighting before rendering an animation? Things move around during an animation
A lot of tutorials I've watched has been doing things in cycles but they're better for stills, where I'm doing animations, eevee gives me a much faster visual workflow.
yeah eevee renders way faster, so it can be better for animations
thanks for your instructive tips! can bake the lighting also be used for video renders or is it more suitable for image rendering? I'm skeptical about it because of the obj movement and the black spot. as you mentioned
If your doing an animation, you should move any moving objects to a different collection, and then hide it. Then bake the lighting, so the moving objects are not effected in the bake. Then you can un-hide the other collection.
@@RyanKingArt thx 👌
Thanks. I don’t have a graphics card and I can’t use cycles
So is it not recommended using baking IrradianceVolume step when making animation because it will creating "black shadow" while the object moving?
yeah you may not want to use the IrradianceVolume for animation. Or just put the IrradianceVolume in some areas, but not everywhere.
I'm not using Eevee a lot, so I'm not very familiar with all the settings. This tutorialis quite helpful. Just one question, did I see this correctly in the comparison at the end: the monkey's reflection is obstructed by the area light although in reality it would be the other way round? Is this a limitation of the screen space reflections, a matter of settings or did I just mistake what I saw?
Oh yeah I see. In the metal sphere, the area light is reflected over the monkey head, as if its in front. I think that is happening because Eevee just isn't super realistic.
As someone with a trash computer who wants more realistic renders, I see that as an absolute win
hope it helps! thanks for watching!
@@RyanKingArt of course, thanks for the tips, they're game changing
what is the point of baking lighting?
Hi Ryan, would these 'settings' be sufficient, if we were using the finished render as a printed image ?
Cheers !
I guess so. What do you mean by printed image?
I also turn on screen space refraction
👍
Great tutorial, as always! I only have one question: do you have to do aaaall of this every time you start a new project or you can save the presets somehow? (I'm very new in Blender)
Yes, you can. Lookup how to save the startup file in Blender.
@@RyanKingArt Thanks Ryan! 🙏🏻
Man, your channel is amazing, congratulations, you have helped me a lot these last few months.
But I wanted to answer a question...I'm facing a problem with the animation in EVEE because the reflection of an object is not working...the Bake of the reflection is not animated. Help me pleasee
Did u find a solution?
🥶🔥🔥
Cold? Fire?
- go eevee go!! :^D
👍
Amazing, what GPU and processor are you running, your cycles seemed (if not edited) to run so fast!
I have the: *RTX 2080 Super WINDFORCE OC 8G Graphics Card*
I also use the Linux Operating System, which actually renders faster then Windows.
@@RyanKingArt nice, I have Linux on my desktop, so may have to use it too for Blender. Thanks for the info and all your hardwork with the easy to follow tutorials.
How you start setuping can you do a video on that
thanks for the video idea!
Make sure when using iridance volumes that the dots are not inside objects, as when baked those nodes inside objects will cast blackness onto models which is innacurate. Try using more irridance volumes cubes in your scene and prevent those dots from being in objects. It would be a great addition to blender to be able to move those dots around, so you wouldn't have to have so many irridance volumes in complex scenes. Modern game engines allow you to do this already.
thanks for the info! 👍
Im a little confused.... Using the screen space reflection in Eevee it doesn't look like how yours does the reflections are blury and don't reflect right I played with the other settings under the SSR option but nothing makes it look clear to make out what it's reflecting how can I fix this?
I don't know why the screen space reflections isn't working for you.
idk how to explai9n it, but im gonna try.
Ivew ogt a proble w rendering. when i render with cycles everything is like its supposed to be EXCEPT the bloom, idk where to toggle it on.
when i render with eevees everything is fine EXCEPT the " shadows " or "lighting"( idk what to name it ) the bloom makes. it doesnt show up.
Someone help me please, fixing either of these 2 problems helps, if you could fix both, it´d be even better. thx in advance dear reader
How does the EEVEE render time compare to Cycles after the improvements?
Eevee is still much faster.
@@RyanKingArtThanks. I've been meaning to find alternatives to my slow rendering on Cycles but tweaking EEVEE to suit always seemed intimidating.
The cone show faceted shading despite being smooth shaded, what was the fix (excluding subdividing more)?
I'm not sure exactly what I did.
@@RyanKingArt Actually you didn't fix it (is visible in the video (but seems visible only in EEVEE Render, not Cycles), I was trying to ask anyone in down the comments if they remember the parameter to fix that, cause if I do remember well this was something that was patched with an interface option.
Excellent to tutorial. Oh, I can use Evee more seriously.
thanks for watching. 👍
Bro plz compare it with cycles also
thanks for the idea
Me : working on blender EVEE alll these years , with out that bake lighting feature💔
hope the video helps
@@RyanKingArt it did
pls can u make video about anime render
thanks for the video idea.
@@RyanKingArt 😁aww
Great tips and overall great video but why would You not turn refractions in screen space reflections is beyond me.
oh Sorry I just forgot that setting.
I'm still not good enough to have shadows in my blender scenes, but thanks for all those tips
thanks for watching!
when I try to bake after putting irradience volume, blender is crashing
ahh sorry its crashing. I don't know why.
@@RyanKingArt I used 4096 for shadow size, enabled high bit depth and tried baking, it crashed, but now with same settings with high bit depth disabled I baked and it worked.
5 minutes in and tNice tutorials is 10 tis harder than garageband on my phone
oh ok
bro when i render that its black
hmm, sorry I don't know why that's happening.
I found the only way I could make Ever more realistic was to use that drop down menu and switch to cycles.
If you really want realism and speed at the same time: UE4/5... it looks great. Too bad I can't post links to prove my assertions.
thanks for the info 👍
jvvru colon, forward slash, forward slash, koiwt . eqo forward slash* [add without cypher after the last forward slash* MH8s7em]
This is just the letters moved 2 positions down the alphabet... reverse the process to get the original letters...🧐
hmmm, the algos triggered on the colon forward slash^2, ha! For example from above jvvru == the first 5 letters decyphered in your ytube link ua-cam.com/video/jxQEPjPTJyw/v-deo.html&lc=Ugyi7zgf4TsKWEwygP54AaABAg.9f-jp1TR5Zm9f1aG4Nh0F1
@@RyanKingArt From my original censored message now: Given you are so good with procedural texturing, I thought you would appreciate a packed image texture based regime as in UE4/5. Idk why it doesn't fubar the GPU's memory, but I had no issues rendering in UE4 that way.
The short clip I rendered in UE4 years ago was a dance to music sync test... it also was created because a dev from Coffee Stain yelled at me for daring to ask for player character customization... so I made their phat player character dancercise until she got to waifu shape... God forbid a _customer_ played a game he paid for as he wants... 🤕
Bro why are you not on Instagram I wanted to ask you some questions
Ask here, he usually replies and if he doesn't I'm sure someone can help.
@@TheDeadKingsRaven bro but he is very good blender artist no one can explain in detail like him
@@earthmatters2869 he's a great teacher and again asking here, he probably would answer but so far you've just hinted at wanting to contact him in a dm unprovoked to ask an unknown question. How receptive would you be at this point? Just ask the question and quit being weird about it.
Sorry, I don't use Instagram, but you can ask your question here, or contact me on my website contact page.
@@TheDeadKingsRaven I think you don't know him many time he replyed me he is very genuine person not like others I respect him
Just change it to cycles
Lol, you can if you want, but that defeats the whole point of the video. The video is for how to make renders more realistic, if your using Eevee. 🙂 But yes, if you really want true realism, then use cycles.
me: mhm yep i know most of this... aha irradiance bak... WTF you can drag down to select all input fields to change them at the same time??321??
Irradiance map is unnecessarily too higH
yeah I think your right. thanks for the feedback.
