Note, decreasing the GI clamp will bias the render. It's a high number by default because the 'fireflies' will eventually converge to the correct value with a long enough render time. Setting it to such a low number will make the render darker than it should be.
you don't need octane to do realistic stuff if you have cycles. also, there are some other very cool render engines that are for free like LuxCore for instance, which is also an unbiased rendering engine -- if that's what people are looking for -- with tons of cool features
I use both Blender and C4D, Octane for C4D is my #1 choice. But if I do a job in Blender, I really don't need a render engine other than Cycles. Cycles is the best free render engine hands down.

This. Same here, Octane is just a hassle in Blender and super buggy unlike in Max/C4D, but it's not because that, imo Cycles X is a solid renderer, only lacks some postfx.
Agreed as far as rendering textures and skies etc goes BUT...shame cycles can't / doesn't nail Bloom like Eevee does/can...and at least in Eevee, you can animate the bloom more easily/effectively without the headf*ck of compositing etc and the bloom effect is way more realistic than the lame 'glow' node using 'ghost' effects..just my opinion/experiences thus far.
@@metatronorder3565 Honestly if you need the most realistic/customizable bloom/glare it's best to do it in comp, unless the engine has built-in bloom/glare that's quite accurate/realistic or like in V-Ray VFB you get quite a lot of control, but still imo it doesn't beat the comp option because you don't get that many options. What I would do if you're using Cycles is to setup a nice preset template in AAE or Fusion/Nuke so you can add it relatively quickly, maybe even Blender's compositor is enough but I doubt it, maybe only for preview purposes.

Cycles is unbiased too. Also other 'sercet' render engines that have other feautues: renderman - powerful engine with good artistic control. Unfortunately no gpu support. Luxcore - state of the art caustics also supports gpus

As much as I love the rendering quality of Octane, this introduces too many dependencies making projection chain over complicated, and prone to breakage over time if any one thing in this chain breaks due to availability and/or compatibility. So I always advise against this type of practice in all the studios I’ve worked at.

Personal preference, it's not about which one is better, it's about what works for you, my reasons for choosing Octane can be different from another Octane user, but personally, I simply think that it just looks better and has a more advanced material system
octane lets you render deep exr! which is only useful if you're comping in nuke but it's still amazing you can get deep compositing renders out of blender!

For me Cycles X and Octane is same shit more or less, why you like Octane is likely due to it's default post processing, you can setup that in Cycles too and for bump maps and such make sure your bitmaps are in correct color space, but I'm sure Octane's shaders are superior. In my testing the render speed is also quite similar, Cycles X can be faster sometimes. But I agree Octane is the best GPU engine when it comes to realism or physical accuracy, too bad it kinda sucks in Blender, you would love the C4D version.
As a viewer I wanna say this video could be better to depict profits of using octane instead of other blender engines, cuz yeah, Octane has its own features (I'm octane C4D enjoyeer)
