  • A how to guide on checking your Super Meteor 650 oil level.
    Also what grade oil to use.
    My Meteor was half a litre under what it should have been on the last service. How about you?
    Please let me know.
    Urgent Urgent Urgent! I'm only recommending this for Meteor 650 owners only. Not Interceptor or Continental. Please follow your own bike's owner's manuals.
    Where I got my information from:
    Royal Enfield Tutorial Video:
    • Engine Oil Level Check...
    Or you can look at page 53 of the owners manual. You can download the manual from here in English:
    www.royalenfield.com/in/en/su...
    The gear ratio is different on the Meteor 650, producing a higher revving engine. I think this is why there is a difference.
    I made this video to save engines, not ruin them. Please only do this on Meteor 650s only please 🙏

    As an auto mechanic myself, I understand why it's important to follow manufacturer's recommended maintenance intervals and which brand to use-hence, the 10w50 Royal Enfield oil when changing the oil-to prolong engine life and smoother wear on the motor!. The jackrabbit starts & stops will only shorten the life of the motor. Thanks for the procedural updates on how to do it properly on a Super meteor 650!🏍️👍🎉🤓⭐⭐⭐ Doug from the 🇺🇸🦅USA.

    Teacher T, first, let me say a genuine thank you for your YT content and presentation style; so far as an oil level sight glass is concerned, the same principle applies to an oil dipstick - the correct level [for a stick] is taken after the engine has been warmed up, and then shut down for a minimum amount of time. Anyway, the measure is valid only when the stick is held down onto the crankcase mating surface. It should NEVER be screwed in and read as 'full.' Many mechanics use the latter method, perhaps because they've poured less oil into the sump to begin with; whatever, I almost always have to add more oil content to my bikes. In essence, it pays to do it yourself, all the best, from a Cambodian neighbor

    Since 1970 whenever my motorcycle was serviced in a bike shop, the first thing i always checked was my oil level. Something my uncle and more experienced bikers told me. And the same principles applied with my cars. You'd be surprised how many times my oil levels were shy of the target!

    A cut away view of the engine shows the oil pickup at the bottom of the sump, so the reason for different oil levels is most likely not pump starvation, or top end oiling. The original 2018 Interceptor Owners manual confirms the common understanding that oil level should be between the Min-Max marks, with the bike level and warm. The April 2023 version of that same manual states that "Engine oil level should be close to “MAX” condition. If in case of oil level is not in above mentioned condition, then top-up the oil to “MAX” condition and repeat the procedure. Do not overfill above the “MAX” mark as it may affect the clutch function." Note the bit about the bike being level, and not necessarily the case on the centre stand, suspension height changes etc.....Most likely RE are suggesting the max oil volume in an attempt to assist engine cooling, rather than a concern over oiling

    Finding absolutely level ground seems to be crucial as it makes a big difference to the oil level in the sight glass. Thanks for reminding me to read the instructions for checking the oil level in the manual. I have been checking when the engine is cold, which gives similar results.

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes. Level ground is important. Thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to mention it. Over filling is just as bad as under filling. I think that is the reason for running the bike and getting it warm first. So the warmer oil can easily flow for a correct reading after it has all settled again. It’s just the max fill line is very odd. So one must be carefully. 🙏

    Yes on a Royal Enfield it pays to have the level at the line & it also helps the wet clutch & gearbox to make smooth shifts to stop false neutrals.
    It is the same for all RE 650's.
    I would top mine up when it about 2mm below tbe line no more it helps with smooth shifts & keeps engine lubricated.It's the same with all wet clutch bikes but I keep the oil high on any bike.

    I've had my main bike for 35 years, a 1988 HD Low Rider, I've always done the servicing myself, I don't trust dealer servicing. March 2023, I brought my second road bike, a HD Pan Am Enthusiasts Collection Special, the beautiful army green version, now I have to get the dealer service for warrantee, I check the oil after every service, first service it was low, second service they didn't screw the oil filter on correctly and it leaked oil and was also quite low, I guess they are trying to save money on oil and create a problem so they can claim a warrantee fix for when the motor breaks, lol.
    I haven't had any problems with the bike, I didn't get it to go off road, got it as and all roads sports tourer and commuter in the city of Melbourne Australia. It suits our country roads because they are as rough as guts, not maintained.

    I have a meteor 650. My oil levels were not at perfect and were below the max line, but not drastically below. A little above the half. And my engine never made such noise. Also, is very hard to get an accurate reading because of lack of level ground. I believe, so as long it’s above the half, or as long as your engine oil light doesn’t flag you, you’re good to go. I did however top off a little last night, but extremely careful as level ground is hard to find. But I’ll keep monitoring.

    My 2021 Interceptor is exactly halfway between the two marks. It was at that level when I bought it new off the showroom floor. When I change the oil and filter, I add the amount it says to add in the owner's manual and that brings it to the halfway level again, just like when it was new. I have never had any problems and the level never moves between oil changes. Is it possible the engine in the Super Meteor sits at a slightly different angle and that makes the level in the oil window different? I can't imagine any other reason that the oil level marks would no longer be accurate. As in anything else, tractors etc., that use a sight glass for oil level the bottom always means add and the top always means full. Anything in between is good to go.

Please please please, I am only pointing this out for the Meteor 650. Not the Continental for Interceptor. I want to save engines, not ruin them! The gearing ratio on the Meteor 650 is very different, producing a higher revved engine. I think this is why RE are recommending a higher oil level. If I remember the Super Meteor has a smaller wheel in back and a taller one in front as compared to the interceptor. Perhaps that has something to do with the angle of the engine and might impact the way oil appears in the sight glass. However, the Super Meteor has an entirely different frame completely redesigned specifically for the Super Meteor with that particular engine so you would think that the engine would sit correctly in spite of the wheel size. Hard to say.

      What is your KM on the bike? A friend of mine said valve clearance too tight causes a noise. You should get a valve clearance check done at 500km and 10,000 km. I asked again to get mine done at 5,000 km and watched the do it. But the oil level at maximum has certainly helped. 🙏

    Only has to be between the lines, should not have to be at top line

      I would normally agree with you, but if the watch the official Royal Enfield video (link in description) or read the owners manual at page 53, it states maximum level.

      @@michaelodwyer2815 I don’t know what the logic is, but can only conclude that they had to increase the level, and changed guidance in manuals and videos. Being a generic engine that fits other models, the Meteor does Rev higher due to wheel sizes and gearing 🙏

    It is not clear why they changed the method of height of the oil from the interceptor?
    ua-cam.com/video/Xdq9ylbp8IQ/v-deo.html
    And why do they say to run the engine to 3000RPM when there is no RPM gauge at all

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  3 місяці тому +1

      That’s why my video is titled Meteor 650. For this bike they are 100% recommending max level on their videos and owners manual. The interceptor and Continental I need to do more research. But the video you linked was uploaded 4 years ago. So maybe things have changed. Let’s find out. As for 3,000 rpm yes I agree, no Rev counter, but by ear it’s a 3rd of max rev. 🙏

      A good question. The manual only gives you the dry fill which they say is 3.9 Litres. Nothing about level. I got the level information from this RE video: ua-cam.com/video/PoJOm8UIExQ/v-deo.htmlsi=8QlSSMSew5Jf8Xyd
