Belt drive is installed, was not to difficult after looking a view times your vid. Thanks again. very helpful. Tomorrow a testride and after i will check te tension again.
I just installed the belt drive and the Hagon shocks, standard lenght, and are very happy with the result. The installation took several hours since I did it alone. The bike rides much smoother now and the shocks are also a big difference. Next week my exhausts from Bykology in India wiil arrive. I went for the Rhino Racing SM-V2. I also ordered a DMA filter from the Netherlands. I also own a Honda VTX 1800 and a Harley Davidson Fatboy so I am used to some power and weight. I like the Supermeteor very much since the handling is easier with 100 kg less weight. I would still like to have a belt guard like my Fatboy. If the belt has enough clearance I don't think trapping of stones would be a problem. Maybe it is possible to adapt the current guard. Thx for your clear instructions.
@@Teacher-T-Thailand I recieved the Rhino Racing exhausts today and they have a deep tone which I like and are loud enough with the db killers installed. Installation was plug and play, quality seems excellent. I also installed the tach that I ordered from Hitchcock, looks stock! I had some needle bouncing which completely disappeared after inserting the extra resistor that was supplied. Some other interesting items that I ordered from the Bykology website in India: a guard for the brake cylinder and oil reservoir and a larger brake and shift pedal so I got rid of these tiny stock items that were sometimes difficult to reach with my big boots. Now I still have to adjust my Hagon shocks that were delivered in the soft setting but without very clear instructions. My weight is 105 kg so I guess I have to choose setting 2 for the preload. However I don't see any numbers on the shock. The damping is also adjustable on the top with a Alen key but what to choose. I ride solo most of the time. So I hope you can give me some advice on that. Kind regards, Pieter

@ Some very nice upgrades you have there. You are now ahead of me! Preload 2 sounds about right with your weight. If I remember correctly there are about 12 diff ent settings on the rebound / damping setting with the Allen key. You should feel a click between each one. I wound mine to be in the middle. They seem to perform ok, but not as good as they were when first new. They do take a daily punishment though on Thai roads. All the best. Happy New Year and safe riding 🙏
Installed my belt drive on the weekend - I work alone and its straightforward enough. I didn't remove the exhausts but did unbolt the shocks. It is possible to remove and refit the rear wheel just on the center stand but a bike lifter would be a good investment. Pretty easy to remove and refit the swingarm. Refitting the wheel on the other hand - arrghh. I would recommend a rattle gun for anyone working alone. I couldn't get the front sprocket bolt to budge with a 600mm long breaker bar. Impact gun - 10seconds and safer. Working alone getting the tension right was a challenge. I set the tension at 21mm with the bike on the center stand with the rear wheel off the ground shocks installed (based off the other installation video). Then with the shocks off you can the lift and chock the rear wheel to simulate the loaded bike - if you aim for a pretension of 25% loaded then the shock will compress approx. 15mm (YSS shocks) when you are sitting on the bike. So I simply raised the swingarm 15mm from its static unloaded position and checked the tension again. The bike is noticeably smoother to ride. I have found I need to shift down a little earlier than with the chain due to the higher gearing. But otherwise its great
While I applaud your ingenuity, however using 21mm unloaded as a base measurement will not yield the correct result. I really recommend that you verify proper tension as Teacher T shows, as proper belt alignment and tension is important for system life. You must have the higher gearing option - Teacher T has this as well
Great effort. To do this on your own I must applaud. Hopefully soon you will notice the improved fuel economy also from the higher geared pulleys. I was 26kpl, now achieving 28 kpl but still checking over time 🙏
I think fitting a belt is a good idea. But I also think you should look into the idea of making some kind of belt guard,, I,m sure with a 3D printer it is possible to do...
I think it’s possible to repurpose the original chain guard with a slight modification. But guards will keep objects in as much as out. Thus Fridays video I take a look at Indian motorcycles and their belt drives. Their belt guard is minimalist and just a token gesture 🙏
Hi Trevor, I've ordered a belt kit, from RS Tech, for my Super Méteor, it should arrive in France in the next couple of weeks. The spoilsports at my RE dealer said 'officially' that fitting it would invalidate the warranty, but 'unofficially' they are really looking forward to fitting it, and seeing how I get on with it. I look forward to seeing your rideout review. Merci 😊
I’ve had mine on and off 4 times. Easy to revert back to chain for warranty issues. Good luck with it all. Leave feedback when done please. All the best. Teacher T 🙏
Hi, the tension of the belt is higher than from a chain I suppose. Did someone consider its impact on the load of bearings and potentially its shorter life time?
Excellent presentation. Cleaver use of the center stand to hold the tensioning tool. How many miles did you have on your chain? Think that when I do this conversion, I will go ahead and remove the swingarm. No better time to inspect and grease the bearings.
Thank you. Only 7,000 km on the chain. About 4,300 miles. I hear UK riders are changing them at 7,000 miles. The Sing arm is very easy to remove and replace, compared to the rear wheel. Good luck with it all 🙏

It seems to be better on long journeys, worse on constant short trips like my commute to work. Last long trip 28kmpl. When bike new 24kmpl. Run in 26 kmpl. With belt 28kmpl
Having adjusted Harley and Indian belts for years, it’s much easier to set the tension with the rear wheel off the ground and no rider on bike. So, if you raise your bike’s rear wheel off the ground, apply 10 lbs of force with the gauge, what amount of deflection is shown? If you’ll post that number, it would allow others to set their belt tension without having to have a second person sitting on the bike.
It’s easier sure, but it doesn’t take into account people’s different preload settings on their suspension, after market suspension, or their weight. So the first time it must be done on the ground with the rider or someone of similar weight to the rider sat on the ground. Once set correct,y, then yes I suppose you can get a second reading on the centre stand and remember it, but that is an unknown figure for different individuals. 🙏
My HD manual specifies checking the belt on the side stand, at ambient temperature. Others choose to tension the belt with Rider, as being more appropriate to check tension in loaded condition. Either way works, as long as the Gates formula is applied. Earlier RSTech instructions gave both calculations, but it was creating more confusion that helping and more than one Rider had the belt too lose.
Yes there is. Easy enough to put a mid peg, but not easy to move the gearing or braking controls. A popular mod with some when riding on open roads. Just move your feet to forward pegs when needed. Not advisable for safety, but possible 🙏

@@uweyaa This is not for off-road applications, so one needs to question the purpose of the guard - In the case of a chain, is it to keep the chain from flinging oil all over you and the bike? Or in the case of a belt/chain, to keep your fingers out of the rotating chain or belt? If the reason for a guard, is to keep out rocks, is not an L shaped guard more of a rock trap than a shield? Unless the guard is fully enclosed (impossible with an endless belt unless a 2 piece guard) a rock can get trapped in the guard, increasing any potential risk; and why I removed my guard; thinking that any rock will get flung out. The standard Meteor 350 rear shock length is 320mm, where the Standard on the Meteor 650 is 310mm. The 350 original shocks have a bad reputation also. I doubt they would be strong enough to support the extra weight of the Meteor 650.
