    Really good video T, very clear step by step instructions. The belt drive kit would be the first modification I would make on any Royal Enfield 650. RS Tech produce a high quality, well engineered product.

    Hi Teacher T! You don't have to remove the swingarm at all. Just remove the plastic cover and stretch the belt. You will save yourself a lot of work. The installation then takes less than an hour. BTW: Thank you so much for the kit, it's awesome!!!

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  7 місяців тому +2

      Good solution. But I would mean cutting the plastic stretch cover to get it off? And Robert being Robert would;d want to remove and service the swing arm and check torque also. But on a newish bike sure. Thank you for your comments. Glad you like it. They have sold very well. A few being fitted to brand new bikes. Owners of which would not have bought the Meteor with out this option, which is just amazing. I’m glad to be a small cog in the chain. But all credit goes to Robert 🙏

      @@Teacher-T-Thailand If the assembly is connected with the revision of the swingarm bearings, then it makes sense. My Super Meteor has 3.000 km on it, the revision made no sense. All I had to do was remove the left exhaust, the left muffler, the left plastic swingarm bolt cover and the rear wheel. Half the work with the same result… 😉

      @@BureScarver Good point and thanks for mentioning as dropping the swingarm, seems a DYI impediment to some. While the swing arm removal sounds daunting, is really not a big deal, and adds about 10 minutes to the job - more if you have to clean up the oily chain mess. Once the swingarm is removed, it allows deletion of the charcoal cannister, and as you say, servicing the bushing. More than one way to skin a cat....................

    When working on the rear wheel on my belt driven Vicory i used a ratchet strap over the seat and the wheel to sispend it and move it about. Easy to lower the wheel to the garahe floor and i didn't have chocks and the like getting in the way to roll out the wheel. As my health deteriorated i was unable to lift the rear wheel by mysel and wiggle it about to get the axle realigned to the brearings. Great video thanks for your effort on this😊

    Hey teacher t-- I had my belt put on Wed. as well as the USB mounter below the clutch lever. Of course RE mechanics had no idea they could fit it on a Super Meteor 650. I told I would not charge them for the training! ha ha. The belt was put on by my Kawasaki mechanic who also put a belt on my Kawasaki 650 S last year.

    Excellent presentation, very interesting and informative. It's a brilliant modification. Just one point though, the imperial unit for the measurement of torque is lbf-ft not ft-lbf. The latter is used to quantify power e.g. 1 HP = 550 ft-lbf /sec. Just sayin'.

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  Місяць тому +1

      Ha ha thanks. I’m only now discovering the importance of torque settings, and I am of the 1st generation that was taught using cm and m. So it’s all new. I did Google it. More confused than ever. It does say a foot lb is a rotational force. Isn’t that what’s being applied here? Thanks for watching 🙏

    • @user-rf9me7xm1w
      @user-rf9me7xm1w Місяць тому

      @Teacher-T-Thailand Many thanks for the reply. I agree, it is confusing. The only point I'm making is that for rotational torque quantification, the unit of force is stated first, whether it's metric or imperial eg. lbf/ft or Nm/m (and not ft/lbf or m/Nm). However, the unit of ft/lbf is used to quantify power when a weight is lifted against the force of gravity vertically. In this case the power exerted equates to a value of 1 horse power when a weight of 550 lbf is raised by 1 ft in 1 second. This is measured in ft/lbf. So sorry for being pedantic it's my ocd taking hold. Please keep up the good work, I find your channel most interesting and am considering buying a super meteor. I'm off for a test ride soon. Best wishes from a horrible wet, windy England.

    Hi, TTT. Could you explain a bit more about the gear ratio of the wheel pulley (38T v 40T) and more importantly, the real-world affect? It probably doesn't make much of a difference but I would like to wrap my head around the concept. Thanks.

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  7 місяців тому +1

      Sure. The standard rear sprocket on the Meteor 650 has 40 teeth. If we changed this sprocket to one with 38 teeth, it means only 38 links in the chain required to turn the wheel 1 revolution instead of 40. The effect is lower engine rpm at high speed. Which to me is a good thing. Because for a cruiser i always felt the Meteor sounded too high a speed revving engine. Slightly slower acceleration on low speeds, but only milliseconds. Not really noticeable. I constantly gott 26:kpl from my Meteor. Since the belt drive conversion it has achieved 27kpl. Early days yet. I will check over the next few tanks of fuel. So that is a major advantage. Robert has designed the rear sprocket of the belt drive to be an equivalent of 38 teeth of a normal sprocket. Lower revs, better mpg. It's a winner in my view 🙏

    Very interesting swap. I am curious about long term use, still owning a belt driven bike (2002 Bmw F650 CS, bought new) I went though a few issues during bike's life and 3 belts so far (102k km later), notably freshly laid sticky road gravel, which did cause some concerns.

    • @robertstraghan9009
      @robertstraghan9009 7 місяців тому +1

      Belt drive bikes have been common since 1985 over millions of km in road applications - fresh laid sticky road gravel is a concern. Having said that, this belt is the latest Gates carbon fiber belt, unlike the one on your BMW, but still a road bike. Yes s**t happens, but I did 160,000 km on the last belt, while living at the end of a 1 km long gravel drive, and pretty sure I might have gone through some roadworks over those 13 years....... I and the other Riders that have covered literally millions of km with a belt drive, cannot be simply that lucky. The belt drive has not only stood the test of time, but a proven concept for a road bike.

      Sadly not. The front pulley would be too small, causing the belt to turn too tight a radius. It doesn’t work to Gates belts parameters. Other brands are out there, but you take your risk. 🙏

      I can give you a long and complicated engineering explanation, should you wish to PM me, but the short answer is no. Here is an unbiased US Dept of Energy report giving that 98% efficiency, and comparing to V-belts www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2014/04/f15/replace_vbelts_motor_systemts5.pdf
      And a technical paper of chain VS belt with the same result: core.ac.uk/download/pdf/55693235.pdf

      Some belt dive installers have reported just disconnecting the suspension at the bottom, and lowering the swing arm when the bike is on the centre stand. There is just enough room to evolve the wheel tilted at an angle, but it is tight. 🙏
