Strangely I found the rear shocks on the Shotgun OK. I am being told they are longer also. 330mm instead of 310mm. Plus mid pegs and a floating suspended seat helps with comfort over bumpy roads. But I’m sure Hagon make a longer set to fit. Safe riding 🙏

I leave all my bike 6 months in Thailand till i come back, and they all start when i come back. I do however disconnect the ground cables from the batteries. Only once i had a problem after not been there over a year the scooter didn’t start anymore, but that was a problem with the ethanol in the fuel. Since then i fill up everything with benzin 95 instead of gasohol before we leave.
My CRF250 and CMX500 I could leave for 6 months without even disconnecting the battery. My CB500x not, because of the flashing alarm light. Agreed on the ethanol. It is a problem. I will follow you Benzin tip 🙏
Anything nowadays with a carb is at risk for long storage. The ethanol mix has messed up any carb motor I own to include generators and garden tools. I try to stick with fuel injection wherever possible. I have had no problem with anything fuel injected.
Great that the bike fits you better now be more confident I was like that with my 1290 adv s hated when I was coming to a stop I’ve only got 27”in seem so struggle with height but got a rocket now so I’m fine take care ride safe
I did yes. I don’t fully understand it either to be able to make a video. They do click cn each turn. So I turned them both the same direction. Then back the other way. I think I counted 14 clicks. So I set it to 7 in the middle. Seems to work 🙏
But I agree: compared wit my Harley Sportster the front suspension on my SM 650 (brand new) is better, but the rear is worse. I consider to replace it as well. Thanks for you review!!!
Thank you. I found the standard rear suspension on the Shotgun much more comfortable. One owner told be it.s 20mm longer than the Meteor. All the best, and enjoy your new bike 🙏
Impressive - and relatively inexpensive too, compared to the YSS equivalents. Having such low ground clearance out of the factory, I'm a bit surprised you weren't trailing sparks on the twisties, having dropped it even further.
I have a set of Hagon shrouded shocks on my Classic 500. Well I won't after tomorrow though. 10500 miles and they're shot. Been on the bike since new and are out of warranty. Until they packed in they were very comfortable, but I'm not enamoured by the lifespan. No oil leaks so I suspect the gas has leaked out. Shame really. Hope you have a better experience re longevity than I had. I like the look of the ones you fitted, nicer than the originals.
@@FATBOY692011 sorry to hear that. I hope I don’t suffer such short life failure. So far so good. Actually I had 6 hours in the saddle yesterday and the ride was awesome. Such a better bike with some decent shocks on it. 🙏
I have had the same problem with the Hagons I fitted to my Interceptor. Basically the same model as TT shows in this vid. Less than 4 years old & no damping. Also this model of shock is sealed & not rebuildable, which I didn’t know until I contacted Hagon.
@@martinowl that’s interesting. All I know is that when I play back video of the shocks, they do a tremendous amount of work. If it means changing them every 4 years, so be it. I couldn’t stand the originals any more. But I do hope to trial YSS next. 🙏
The best thing i can say is that i dont notice the rear anymore,so they are working, but ive bought a pair of hagon shrouded shocks because i like the classic look
So pleased to see this video come out and your reaction to the new shocks. Questions, questions.. Very much looking forward to the fitting video as well. So here are my questions or comments. First the start up after being away. That was impressive, did you have the battery on a trickle charger or anything like that? My only concern would be the drain on my bike due to the tracker, but a month with no charging was amazing. Second. You mentioned the seat. Did you not get someone improvement after your modification and recovering of the seat. Did you not find that your modification helped with your leg height. I am particularly interested in this because it's high on my list of tasks for my SM650? Next, the centre stand. Waiting on the fitting video to see how you overcame this so watching for that. However, I had the thought that if the centre stand was not going to work with the new shocks you might consider taking it off and loosing all that excess weight? Finally, my thoughts on the Hagon shocks themselves. Personally I would need to get rid of those God awful stickers. Maybe put black shrink wrap over them or something like that, but personally they scream "I don't belong here". Very excited to see the Belt Drive video as that looks like a huge mod, but maybe very worthwhile. Will wait for the fitting video, but damn Teacher I think you are going to cost me money 🤯 Great work as always and much appreciated given that this was done with your own money.
My bike is not fitted with a tracker. And no trickle charge. Just left in the garage as I left it the month previous. Some trackers only track when the bike is in motion, so hopefully disconnect when not? The seat mod has certainly made the seat softer. And more comfortable for the man bits also when moving the bike with your feet. As for leg height, only slightly, but not as noticeable as changing the rear shocks from 310mm to 290mm. As for the centre stand, it comes in useful for wheel cleaning and chain lubing. But even with a belt drive, it does come in handy for the 3,000 km inspection, where you spin the wheel and look for wear. 9 times out of 10, no adjustment needed. But when it does, again the centre stand is handy. So it will stay. Agreed on the stickers on the Hagon shocks! Shrink rap or black electrical tape will sort it. 😂 Compared to the price of a Harley Davidson, some room with money to modify 🙏👌😂
@@Teacher-T-Thailand It didn't take long, but I have already taken the plunge with purchasing these shocks this afternoon. As more folks see your video I expect there to be a rush on the Hitchcock's supply. Looking forward to getting these and seeing any tips you may have in the next video. Gentle reminder to take a look at your rear sprocket nuts Teacher?
Good on you mate, I'm really happy the shocks worked out so well 😀 With the older bike not starting after a month..Can I venture to say that it may be more to do with the age of the battery rather than the age of the bike? I am very much looking forward to your belt drive fitting video, my belt drive kit has arrived and I'm pretty bloody nervous about the fitting procedure, so I'm very glad you're making the video, thanks 😀🙏
The older bike had a new battery not long ago. But they never last long, because it’s a hard engine to turn over, drawing a lot of ampage. It was no surprise it wouldn’t start. I normally have a trickle charger for that one, but it’s stopped working for some reason. Good to hear your kit has arrived. Let me know your concerns, and I will make sure I cover them 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand thank you much appreciated 🙏 I would be interested to hear your thoughts on preventative maintenance such as replacing the cush rubbers and some of the bearings that Robert mentions in the instructions. And also the best way to tension the various fasteners and nuts and the tools required for performing this upgrade without a second person the assist. I am planning a big trip up the east coast of Australia in July this year with my Wingman of the Road 'Toucan' motorcycle tent. And I definitely want to get the belt drive installed before I commence this trip, which could be thousands of KM and several months in duration as I am planning to commence in southern Tasmania, then take my bike on the ship to the mainland, then go all the way up to Cairns Queensland to visit family. It's very exciting but a little daunting 😳😃🙏
@@felixVanDiemen sounds like a real adventure. I rode 3 hours to RS Tech yesterday. It took 2 hours to fit the belt drive (1 hour fitting, 1 hour getting the correct tension). I recorded all the torque settings required and plan to make and edit a video soon. Then I had the 3 hour ride back home. 1st hour slow. 2nd hour medium, 3 hour 120kph all the way. The lack of chain snatch gave me more confidence rolling on and off power around the corners. And the new shocks made the bike glide. The combination is awesome. The hardest job is getting the back wheel off from such a heavy rear ended bike. I’m looking for solutions 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand good on you mate! I was just talking to Robert about the belt drive kit and he mentioned that you had been around and had filmed a fitting video, great stuff! Now that you found the cure....thanks for sharing! I am seriously considering this 650....if you were to choose again... . Would you choose the Celestial trim? If not, why? . Would you choose other bike? If yes, which one?
I’m making a video this week, where I will change the seat to a touring seat and add a back rest. Making it more of a celestial look. I do prefer the non touring seat look though. The rear suspension is the only real big issue with the bike. This can be helped by fitting after market shocks. I would have probably bought the Vulcan S 650 if I had trialed that bike first. No trade off. No more bottoming out like the original shocks do. Lowers the bike by 20mm, and improves the comfort of the ride no end. 160 km in the saddle today. 🙏
I'm glad to see other shocks do help. Got bad back pain during and after every ride. I just would wish I could get some shocks here in Thailand, I just paid an awful lot of import fees and tax on a handlebar I ordered from Bykology, India. BTW, do you still like to sell your steed? My friend keeps asking.
You should be able to get YSS shocks here and not pay any tax. And yes I'm not using the Seed much any more. Prepared to sell it. Watch a UA-cam video on how to direct message a channel . Then you can find me e mail address. Can't post here sadly 🙏
You can ask Hitchcocks UK, or direct to Hagon. I'm sure they can answer you. Postage may be expensive, but I don't think you have to pay the 20% UK tax. Also watch tonight's video that launches at 6pm. At the end I show photos of a new suspension lowering device.

Sorry for delay in reply. Had to find my measuring gauges. The Hagon springs diameter is 62mm. The original 65mm at the springs and 76mm at the top covers. 🙏
Hi, great videos. Can you explain to me why you choose a smaller one? What´s the advantage of that? I'm thinking in changing too but i will most of the times ride with 2 persons, wont the bike be to lower? Thanks and greetings from Portugal
The standard length for suspension is 310mm. That is original length. As long as you are happy with the seat height, then you can order replacement shocks at 310mm. I ordered 290mm because before hand I was always on top toes. With any shock, you are supposed to change the pre load when a pillion gets on the bike. This stops the bike lowering too much. Same goes for luggage. All the best in Portugal 🙏
I have booked Meteor 650 some months back and i loved it.However recently I have heard lot of videos mentioning that we shud not buy this as mainly it has chain sprocket issue and spare parts availability issue..Is this true..Need ur feedback..Have RE already started working on the issues.
Scare mongering from other manufacturers maybe? There is a small issue with the sprocket nuts undoing themselves. I plan to make a video about it soon. But remember all RE bikes come with a 3 year warranty. There is a delay ordering some parts it’s true. Maybe because RE have become so successful; recently they are struggling to keep up with orders of new bikes. Any links you can send me that you have seen would be helpful 🙏
Teacher,if I also want to lower the front suspension, would it just be a matter of lowering the triple clamps of the bike, or do I need to change the suspension springs? I hope I was clear. Thank you for your videos!!!" Greetings from Argentina
Good afternoon teacher! I live in Brazil and did a test ride with the SM 650 and found the rear shock absorbers hard. Where to buy better shock absorbers for SM 650? Thanks.
A link where to get them is in the video description from UK. But this may take too long or cause too much import tax for you. Just look for decent 310mm long shocks in your country. YSS or Hagon. Maybe you have a local supplier? But yes the stock shocks are very hard, and one major fault with the bike. I kept mine on for 6 months with the hope they would get better in times. Sadly they didn’t. Good luck. Apart from this, a great bike. 🙏
problems after changing the shock absorbers: the side stand is too long and the motorcycle is positioned too upright, it risks falling. Another problem with the central stand which is impossible to use due to how hard it is.
Not with the Meteor. I can still use the side stand no problem, even though I’ve lowered the bike by 20mm. Agree on the centre stand, but I use a wooden wedge under the rear wheel to raise the bike, and now I can still use the centre stand 🙏 Super Meteor 650 Top 5 Hacks in Under 5 Minutes ua-cam.com/video/7Zcu_hkMMtU/v-deo.html
@Teacher-T-Thailand I have a Super Meteor 650 like yours and you should have the problem I have too because by lowering the bike by 2 cm it is logical that the side stand no longer has the initial geometry and the inclination must be changed, or the support shortened. Same problem for the central stand, I had already seen the video which suggests putting a triangular shim under the wheel, but it doesn't work, here too you have to dismantle the piece and make a modification by lowering the support. The information I have was given to me by a mechanic who makes these modifications.
@ well your mechanic on this occasion is wrong. I would certainly state this in videos if this was the case, but it’s not. You see videos of my bike on the side stand and centre stand all the time. It’s no problem. Really🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand I believe in your statements, my bike has probably dropped a little more, thanks for your information, I will keep you updated on developments in the problem, bye.

If you have cha ged your air filter or exhausts already the same warranty issue exists But within 10,0000 km I would consider it. The price of a new chain and sprockets goes a long way towards a belt drive 🙏
That was my question also, but no real answer given. I suppose they wanted tax on the imported item. Even though I paid 20% tax in the UK. Luckily just a slap on the wrist and don’t do it again.
Tyre pressures are stated at 41 psi front and 38 rear. They are high. But this is for the Ceeta brand tyres that came with the bike. If carrying a Pillion they state 42 front and back. The pressures are printed on the label of the swing arm. I ran 36 rear for a while. But you can feel it not as sharp on the corners at high speed. Are you experiencing comfort issues?
No, because I ordered mine from Hitchcock's. There was only 6 choices. I found the Hagon website too complicated. But yes Hagon direct do provide that service. They adjust the preload and damping pre delivery. That's the only difference 🙏
I haven't tried YSS, but people who have say they are better. They are more expensive. But the Cheaper Hagons have certainly improved the ride quality.
@@Teacher-T-Thailand I am finding it hard to get these in my country thus I seek opinions before I buy them. I prefer preload and compression/damping adjustment as I travel solo and with pillion.
Hello, I bought the "Hagon" brand shock absorbers, but unfortunately, I still find the suspension hard and rigid, what is the reason? Will they require a special configuration?
That is very surprising. Best to email Hagon direct with the model of shocks you have, your weight and luggage weight and they will normally tailor fit settings for you. They are normally quick at replying 🙏

YSS are made in Thailand, but my emails and enquiries were ignored. The Hagons have made a vast improvement on comfort. But I will probably make a video on YSS shocks soon. 🙏
You don't say exactly what the problem is with the original shocks. What is the nature of the improvement? My problem with the originals is that the ride is far too hard. Do the new shocks address this problem?
I have made lots of videos about the rear suspension. My criticism has been constant.nMy first criticism is that setting preload 1 should be banned. All bikes roll out of the showroom like this. Even the lightest of riders will bottom out the suspension on a pot hole on this setting. And the if you change to preload 2 or 3 the ride becomes too hard. I gave them 6 months, and no change. After market shocks are a lot softer, as you can control the damping settings also. A worthy upgrade. 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand Hi....something must have changed. I am baffled. Straight from the showroom on setting 1, the rear suspension is impossibly hard...or am I getting it wrong and it's actually bottoming out all the time? It FEELS like there's no suspension at all. Thanks TT. Its been a year waiting for a video on suspension upgrade and finally you delivered the present. I was patiently waiting foe your review and here we go. I am going to order one post getting approval from home ministry. Cheers TT
Good luck with the home ministry 😂 🙏
Thanks for this great video👍
Thanks so much for your support, as always 🙏
Many thanks. You too 🙏
Great video. Have you changed the damping adjustment at all? A separate video on that subject would be welcome. Cheers
I did yes. I don’t fully understand it either to be able to make a video. They do click cn each turn. So I turned them both the same direction. Then back the other way. I think I counted 14 clicks. So I set it to 7 in the middle. Seems to work 🙏
Does the damping make any difference coz I am planning to buy without the damping adjustment.
But I agree: compared wit my Harley Sportster the front suspension on my SM 650 (brand new) is better, but the rear is worse. I consider to replace it as well. Thanks for you review!!!
You are welcome. The rear suspension is now on par with the Harley Nightster I recently rode. Thanks and safe riding 🙏
Thank you Teacher T. I'll seriously consider the upgrade in the middle future

I think it’s a wise purchase. A priority over exhaust silencers in my opinion. 🙏
Impressive - and relatively inexpensive too, compared to the YSS equivalents. Having such low ground clearance out of the factory, I'm a bit surprised you weren't trailing sparks on the twisties, having dropped it even further.
They are impressive. And it’s only the back that has dropped, where the ground clearance issue is only on the front end really. 🙏
10,500 miles is no mileage at all. How did they pack in?
@@Teacher-T-Thailand pretty much the gas leaked out. Stripped them down and no oil leaks also very slow to rebound after being compressed.
It would be nice if you could make a video for mini ape hangers, which ones to get, how to install...
Noted. I have considered in the past. Even ordered some. But they didn’t fit. Any that you can recommend?
Great vid sir! Safe rides!
Many thanks. It was fun to make, and from the heart 🙏
I did that with the rubbers on my yss shocks, found i was only getting about 20mm of travel,so backed off the preload
How do you find the YSS. I wanted to fit them, but got annoyed with their service.
Great video Mr T, and amazing sandals 😂😂😂😂.
41 degrees filming that video and changing the shocks. 😂🙏

Yes a major success. Couldn’t be happier 🙏
Great video, thanks, I think that with these Hagons the bike has been lowered by at least 20 mm, right?

Yes I chose the 290mm option. But you can still choose the original 310mm if you prefer 🙏
@Teacher-T-Thailand Thank you so much for your elaborated replies, didn't expect that! Really helpful.
Nice video.. Helpful.. quick question: is there a trade off to the shorter shocks? Did you scrape the underside ok bumps or speed breakers?
Thanks
I am from India and I'm also considering replacing the shocks to shorter ones
but not sure about the price for transportation of these hagon shocks.
You can ask Hitchcocks UK, or direct to Hagon. I'm sure they can answer you. Postage may be expensive, but I don't think you have to pay the 20% UK tax. Also watch tonight's video that launches at 6pm. At the end I show photos of a new suspension lowering device.

The first shock was easy enough to remove and install but i had difficulty with the second one. I really hope I have the same experience as you've had with the shocks. Also, I haven't figured out the adjustments yet as there is no indication on the shocks.
@@simonshylla9739 good news. The Alan key, you can feel a small click each time you turn it. About 14 clicks if I remember correctly. Midway point is a good start, then just play

On the Hagons there are 12 clicks of adjustment. I set mine to in the middle at 6. But I do need to spend time experimenting with better settings. Damping is what makes the ride more comfortable. So yes better to have it. The Genuine shocks don’t have adjustable damping 🙏

very interesting, thanks, can you tell me the diameter of the springs?
Sorry for delay in reply. Had to find my measuring gauges. The Hagon springs diameter is 62mm. The original 65mm at the springs and 76mm at the top covers. 🙏
@Teacher-T-Thailand Tank you 🎉👍
Hi, great videos.
Hi sounds great but what model number where they..???
Depends if you want black, chrome or retro. Lowered or normall. So 6 choices. All info in the video description for the link to the web page 🙏
Teacher,if I also want to lower the front suspension, would it just be a matter of lowering the triple clamps of the bike, or do I need to change the suspension springs? I hope I was clear. Thank you for your videos!!!" Greetings from Argentina
I did look into lowering the front Showa forks. Sadly I don’t think it can be done, which is by I lowered my rear suspension from 310mm to 290mm 🙏
Off subject, but how do you feel about the seat? Would you spend extra for a touring seat or do you find the stock Super Meteor seat okay?
That was the first modification I did to my bike, as I found the seat too hard. You can watch my video here : ua-cam.com/video/afmk5rYm3R8/v-deo.html
problems after changing the shock absorbers: the side stand is too long and the motorcycle is positioned too upright, it risks falling. Another problem with the central stand which is impossible to use due to how hard it is.
Not with the Meteor. I can still use the side stand no problem, even though I’ve lowered the bike by 20mm. Agree on the centre stand, but I use a wooden wedge under the rear wheel to raise the bike, and now I can still use the centre stand 🙏 Super Meteor 650 Top 5 Hacks in Under 5 Minutes
ua-cam.com/video/7Zcu_hkMMtU/v-deo.html

Quando a garantia da minha acabar já sei qual vai ser a primeira coisa que vou trocar kkkkk
If you have cha ged your air filter or exhausts already the same warranty issue exists But within 10,0000 km I would consider it. The price of a new chain and sprockets goes a long way towards a belt drive 🙏
Ok , I have to ask , Why would you have to pre register motorcycle shocks in your non carry on luggage ?
That was my question also, but no real answer given. I suppose they wanted tax on the imported item. Even though I paid 20% tax in the UK. Luckily just a slap on the wrist and don’t do it again.
Hello. Pls can anyone tell men what tire pressure do you use? 41 36 seems way to high..thanks!
Hi, Did you provide the details like weight and pillion weight to Hagon?
No, because I ordered mine from Hitchcock's. There was only 6 choices. I found the Hagon website too complicated. But yes Hagon direct do provide that service. They adjust the preload and damping pre delivery. That's the only difference 🙏
Which would be better, Hagon or YSS, need your suggession Please ??

I chose Hagon because I was visiting family in UK at the time. Also they offered a lowering solution, making it better for my short legs.
I weigh 87 kgs. Must do more research and test. And have a chat with Hitchcocks. Thanks for your reply.
@@SuffolkWoodexactly. it's the bottoming out causing the discomfort. There are 5 preload settings. Setting 3 should stop the bottoming out, but will make the ride a hard one. They look good, but perform terribly.
