Sooooooooo true!! I never thought of that. He is a genius and hilarious. Very witty while being as awesome guy. A good human being with enormous talent.
I've always thought that wrestling was so lucky to have Bobby because I think he could have been a world-class comedian. He is one of the funniest, wittiest people ever in entertainment.
Lanny Poffo and former football player George Wells are doing the job for the Funk brothers: Heenan: What the heck is Wells wearing? Monsoon: Those are football pants. He used to play football. Heenan: So what? Poffo used to be a baby. He's not wearing a diaper.
TheWordMercy82 I’m sorry I don’t get involved in politics. However, I grew up with the AWA so I guess you can say I wanted to be a member of the Heenan family LOL...
"I thought it was despicable when you tried to sell Hercules Hernandez to the Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase, to sell another man into slavery." The Brain's response: "Thank you..." Classic Brain.
Yes great lines and comebacks but I don't like the smugness in tone. I like it much better when he uses a "matter of fact" tone in his line deliveries.
Best manager ever and by all accounts are really nice and funny guy in person. There will never be another Bobby Heenan, in any form of media. The man was a genius.
The greatest Heenanism: "Sir, how long have you been married?" "21 years." "Do you realize that on your wedding night, if you'd have killed her, you'd be out now?"
That man was once able to talk to for hours. Sad how cancer took away that gift. The man could read the phone book and make it interesting. The main thing I also recognize is that Heenan wasn't dirty with his jokes but could really get some deep diggers when needed.
Actually the funniest line I ever heard from Heenan was when he was in WCW. Heenan: Do you know who invented the "small package" (wrestling hold) Tony Schiavone: No who? Heenan: The midget wrestler, Little Beaver.
Yes it was awful what cancer did too bobby Heenan. He was unrecognisable at the end. Such an horrific end for such a great, funny as hell guy. Rip bobby Heenan, wrestling lost a major asset when it lost bobby and has never been the same since.
Vinny Carrocia he grew up a fan but has since shit on wrestling non stop. “It took on this nasty edge, and I thought, it’s one thing to be irreverent and edgy - I can recite every George Carlin or Richard Prior routine, and I’m from the Saturday Night Live generation, the David Letterman generation, so I know edgy and irreverent. The WWE represented comedy for people who had been hit in the head too many times. That stuff was really low rent, and I didn’t like it, period. I don’t think I should have to apologize for that, and I don’t think that means I was out of touch. I was perfectly in touch. I saw it for what it was and I said so.” He ripped Malone and Rodman in the 97 NBA finals for getting involved in wrestling as well. Bob Costas sucks.
@@Stonewall29 I mean, was he wrong? Honestly...was he really wrong? We were glorifying high risk stunts...Foley (Mankind) going off the top of a cage through a table. It cost many guys their lives...wrestlers weren't dropping like flies in the 60's and 70's. Owen Hart's negligent death. He wasn't wrong. Heenan is number 1 by a mile, Paul e number 2 miles ahead of Fred Blassie who is miles ahead of Jim Cornette who is close to Lou Albano also Sensational Sherri
Bobby didn't , it was Bob Costas misunderstanding bobbys answer, saying actor. So bobby was keeping it kayfabe thru n thru. Just tht dickhead costas haha
I always liked Arsenio Hall's interactions with wrestlers. He seemed to have some real fun with them and let them ham it up. I miss the Kayfabe talk show appearances
LoL, classic Heenan. Giving a good interview in the process while performing polished kayfabe and being entertaining. Even the production staff was laughing at Heenan's comments behind the camera. I remember this interview back in the day and haven't seen it in years. Thanks for posting it.
I love how The Brain mentions all the people he has to go after Hogan, one of the names he uses is the Brooklyn Brawler. That made me chuckle. Classic.
This guy was in a category of his own! Amazing to watch. I hated him as a kid. But now I appreciate the master he was! Recognized as the best by the best!
WWF sucked in the 80's. The wrestling was slow and boring and they had too many bodybuilders and big fat guys who could barely move. Heenan and Okerlund were the only 2 good things in the WWF in the 80's.
Macho Man and Steamboat were pretty awesome workers who would hold up in any era, so WWF had that going for them in the 80s (not JUST Heenan and Okerlund).
Also, a couple of young whippersnappers named Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were putting in work in the tag team division during the 80s, so all was not lost as far as in-ring talent.
bankdude78 That was because it was before the internet. Since there aren't really any secrets these days, real wrestling fans watch it for entertainment.
Bobby was quick as a whip. Bob does a great job of playing along throughout. I think Costas might even have a connection with the old Muchnick territory iirc
"Well maybe Gene Mauk would like to compare himself to me but I wouldn't compare myself to an old man outta work".. freaking classic Heenan love it!!! RIP Mr Heenan never be another like you.
Heenan did for wrestling, what Howard Cosell did for Monday night football. His arrogant, Whitty, smart ass demeanor is absolutely hilarious!! RIP Brain.
Actually Gorilla cracked up constantly. You should go back and watch the old Primetime clips. Monsoon is constantly breaking out in laughter but he was good at blending it into the banter so that it didn't seem like he was actually breaking. I heard JR talking about it on a podcast recently and I went and watched some and sure enough Monsoon is laughing at Heenan's quick-witted quips all the time. Can't believe I never noticed it before. They were so great together.
Heenan is in his element here- the grand master of wrestling! I love how Bob Costas just plays along with everything; even the people in the background can't stop from laughing.
The single greatest moment of the later days of the Kayfabe days. Selling this totally as they did, Costas playing the pandering. fawning mark. The bottom line was the only way after the "twin referee" incident for the Heenan family to get a singles' belt was for Heenan to actively interfere. Having Jake Roberts, Ultimate Warrior, Roddy Piper, and Demolition all in the same 18 month period wanting to rip his lungs out... and the way he did it.. priceless.
Bobby was brilliant! One of the greatest contributors to pro wrestling ever! Behind the scenes he seemed like such a great guy. When he was sick and eventually passed you could tell his contemporaries truly loved him.
The story of Bobby Heenan talking to the accused Atlanta bombing suspect at a Nitro was hysterical. Here’s this poor guy that went through hell for having duct tape in his trunk, being accused of bombing the Olympics and after all that’s squared away he wants to go see Nitro with his mom in Atlanta. He gets backstage to meet the wrestlers and Bobby says “hey Richard, does this remind you of anything….BOOM!!” 😂😂😂 and the guy runs out of the building.
I love hearing the crew laughing in the background during the interview. Kudos to Bob Costas on playing the perfect straight man. Today's pro wrestling could really use managers like Bobby Heenan. Go find his autobiography. A must for any wrestling fan.
This is what made wrestling so believable and kudos to Bob Costas for just rolling with it heenan was still in character the whole time in a real-life setting and they would make you think that if he seen him walking in the airport or he was out to dinner somewhere that the character on TV was who he really was
Read his autobiography a few years ago. You don't even have to be a big-time wrestling fan to enjoy it. A LOT of great inside stories and written, as one might imagine, in a very entertaining manner.

I dont think I realized as a kid how much I appreciated Heenan's involvement in any match or storyline. As a kid, he's fun to root against and see fail, but as an adult, I realize he's just fun to watch. Entertainer that knew the assignment and delivered every single time
Can you imagine how amazing a Heenan podcast would have been?
Holy Shit, that would of been incredible :D
🧠🤯. Search “Da Brain” and there is a 10 part interview he did that is fabulous.
So tragic that the man with the best mic work had throat cancer. RIP Weasel

He's solid gold in this.
Someone as intelligent as Bobby could have been everything he wanted.
I KNEW BOBBY HEENAN AND I WAS FRIENDS WITH HIM TOO. AND HE CERTAINLY WOULD OF MADE A GREAT COMEDIAN! HE WAS ONE OF A KIND 😂😂😂
Bobby is a big loss to wwe
Hated him when I was a kid...now I'm an adult this guy was a genius. Proves how great he was at his craft. R.i.p. legend
I hated him as a kid. But I think we all loved him, even if we didn’t know it
Ya, he was an INCREDIBLE heel! And we were such marks. R.I.P.
He was so great wasnt he? Never too prideful to be the fool either. Loved that about him.
Even as a kid I saw the genius. But then I was never in the slow lane.
Well said.
"These are the kind of people who wear a brown sock and a white sock, and have a pair just like them at home." Heenan was GOLD.
LOL!!!!! That’s just incredible.
Lol!!! I almost spit my coffee out when he said that 😂🤣😂🤣

"You win some and you lose some. Unless you're Virgil, then you lose them all." - Bobby Heenan
Holy shit I remember that one-liner from Heenan!
“ anyone can win the royal rumble. Unless your name is Virgil “
Virgil has a super big penis.

At 1st thought I wanted to write, "he didn't really say that did he?" But its Bobby the brain Heenan. Of course he would, lol.
Right up there with Rodney Dangerfield with his ability to spit out brilliant one-liners on the fly.
My favorite Heenan quote, “Anything is legal as long as the ref doesn’t see it.”’ RIP sweet prince!

Bobby Heenan is the single most entertaining humanoid I've ever seen in my life. Every dollar I paid to see him was worth it and far more.
He was evolved beyond humanoid.
"There will never be another Miss Elizabeth"
"Good"
LOL!!! What a genius The Brain is!
I Love how both Heenan and Costas are keeping it Kayfabe
+romans52345 He realizes that he is just another humanoid with The Brain....and Costas no doubt was told to know his role prior to taping! Cheers
+romans52345 Yes, I think that's awesome. He must have been a fan.
Costas is a wrestling fan who wanted to PLAY with his faves. Great Kayfabe both ways!
Costas was a fan but he stopped being one during the Attitude era, and at one point was an outspoken critic of the WWF.
MrAdrenaline1982 Until McMahon ripped Costas a new asshole on his show!
Hearing the background laughter is very telling about how much of a genius Bobby Heenan was!
"Later is what you tell an ugly girl". Im dying.
Totally in character the entire time! Love him! I am impressed Costa kept it going
Best heel manager ever..
And the chemistry between Bobby and Gorilla Monsoon doing commentary was absolutely unmatched!
Agree 💯 bobby and gorilla magic on the 🎤
Even Jim Cornette admitted Bobby was the best
Bobby Heenan is Gold!! He's the funniest guy in Wrestling for sure. Legend!
Bobby the Brain Heenan was hilarious. He was so quick with his rebuttals. Man he was great.
Bockwinkel said you smarted off to him at your own peril. His comebacks could rip you to pieces.
Yes great lines and comebacks but I don't like the smugness in tone. I like it much better when he uses a "matter of fact" tone in his line deliveries.
