Salvage showing up on long range scans is bugged as of 3.19. The only way (currently) to find groups of salvage panels is to fly by them by pure luck and they will pop up on your screen. I like to spam 360 degree scan while flying, so if I do get close enough, the ping will pick up a group of 5-6 white diamonds which in most cases would be salvage. I've even tested this by finding a group of panels and then flying about 10km away and scanning and they do not show up.
Hey! It's actually quite easy. Step 1. Scan ping with tab. Step 2. Open scanner with V Step 3. Look at each of the zones that you pinged. In the top right is an RS number. Anything with an RS Signature that is divisible by 2000 is salvage. (Ex.. RS 2000, RS 4000, RS 6000) This way you'll never be running around from asteroid to asteroid. When you can specifically only go to scrap.
It's the little things. Salvaging with my reclaimer is so enjoyable. Having a salvage hold full of boxes to sell and a cargo bay filled to the brim with weapons, heads and mining bags is just a joy. I feel like a treasure hunter 😂
But the salvage lasers on the reclaimers doesn't produce salvage tho. You tear the ship down, but after I salvaged an entire Hercules, not 1 SCU box was produced lol.
@@thatrandomguycommenting1261 Ye, if one is not to use the Reclaimer for salvage, since its bugged atm. Hopefully it gets fixed in 3.22 patch, in addition to it's claw supposedly becoming active.
Very nice guide. I am in the process of getting back in the game (computer died) and am anxious to take my Vulture out. You put it all out in an efficient and comprehensive fashion. Thanks
I think the fact that you actually have to get out of your seat and go down to the cargo hold and manually move the boxes yourself is the most beautifully pedantic bit of nuance I've ever seen in a game loop
Great video! All my questions about salvage were answered by watching this. I will share this link to anyone who has a 'how-to' question about salvageing. Definitely going to check out your other videos. Thank you for your efforts!
Nice video. Since drugs are so lucrative, if you don’t have a huge amount, you can take them to the no questions asked terminal in the lounge at CRU L4 . They can’t buy as much at once, but you don’t have to worry about pirates or security scans.
There's enough left to this new profession to warrant a whole series of videos.. you can salvage all the abandoned ships littering bunkers, while you have a mission there the turrets will basically protect you while you salvage; you can salvage the 890 Jumps used as repel boarders mission locations, without getting a crime stat (it says friendly fire a bunch, but no CS); there are often Constellations or C2s near the starting areas of the various racetracks, long abandoned and as long as they were already reclaimed, no CS; you could team up with a fighter escort and salvage Hammerheads disabled during ERT missions, even the Idris etc; I'm sure there are more scenarios available once you add various piracy mechanics into the mix, disabling the comm arrays to salvage anything without CS, hijacking ships full of illegal cargo at junk yards to steal the cargo and salvage the hull, out in deep space away from any comm arrays, etc.
Great vid! I was hoping you would also cover how to find salvage ships outside of the salvage claim missions. I hope they add a mid size salvager ship to the game at some point.
1:05 I notice about five spelling mistakes in your timestamp list. Of course, I understand that English is not your first language and I am grateful that you've decided to make these videos in English, just thought I'd mention it :)
Thanks D2EA, that was a great video and just what I needed. I have the vulture and did lots of salvage quest and your video showed me that a few things I was doing wrong and a lot of things that I didn't know I could do.
great video, may want to check you math though on Effective collection rates. You need to multiply Diameter by Pi for Area and the correct units of m^2 to cancel out and be dimensionally correct. New numbers actually show clinch with higher effective collection speed of 2.403, Abrade with 1.16, and trawler with 0.65.
Really cool addition to SC, top quality video as always! I bet you could do the multi-player salvage as a collaboration, there's got to be a handful of content creators looking for a way to make that video with as few logistical issues as possible; trying to make a video with 5 other guys in different timezones and on a questionably stable server sounds like an interesting time 😂
You can actually fit 13 SCUs off-grid in the Vulkan solo. You just have to be careful: When stacking the last full width row, so the row off-grid, you start with the stack in the walk way, then one in the middle, then, while wheeling in and rotating, you squeeze a stack directly in front of the door as tight to the bulkhead as possible. This should leave you just a sliver to pickup the corner of fresh boxes. Once you put the bottom box against the door, you must be careful to not obstruct the filler.... so 1 box at a time. At this point, every square inch in the walkway from ramp to door should be occupied 2 high. You should have the box 1 high next to it. Like before, grab the corner of the fresh box to stack it two high. Salvage some more, and this will create your final box, which will obstruct the conveyer. That's 13 boxes. If you have a friend with you working in the basement, you can load the filler again again till it gives you the obstruction. When it gives the obstruction message, your friend picks up the box that's in the way, and just lifts it up and holds it. When they've got the box in the air out of the way, you just start salvaging again, and this will force it to attempt to eject the SCU again. Done successfully, it'll spit a box out that you can then drop the previous box on. Then load the filler again. So, one can fit in the Vulkan: SOLO: 26 SCUs (12 grid + 13 off-grid + 1 in filler) w/Partner: 27 SCUs (12 grid + 14 off-grid + 1 In filler) w/Partner who has a steady hand: 28 SCUs (12 grid +15 off-grid + 1 in filler) If you have a partner with you, they can wait outside of your ship if you park at the surface entrance and eject the SCU in the filler after you've sold the on and off grid holds. Otherwise... I just eject it when I get back and start my next salvage already with an SCU in the cargo hold.
Thanks for the video. I wish i had a big ship for salvaging the hull. I just have a Cutty black and a hand tool. So I have been grabbing the guns and cargo in the ships.
PSA: if you REALLY want to and have enough patience you can fit a staggering 26 scu of boxes in the vulture! i have done that when a risky salvage mission spawned with 29 scu of cargo. Those 26 boxes made a profit of nearly 300k
I've fit 28 with a friend. 12 on-grid 15 off-grid 1 Still in the filler The trick is this: When you get the filler obstructed message, you can force it to attempt to eject again from the pilot seat by starting to salvage again. This way you don't have to be able to reach the button. So when that final box is obstructed, your baggage handler lifts the obstructing box up out of the way. You tap the beam again, it attemps to eject, and if they have the box in the right place, it'll allow the filler to eject and your partner can drop the SCU they're holding on top. Every single stack 2 high. And of course, fill that filler so your friend can eject it for you to sell once you sold off the lot... or you can start your next scrape with 1 SCU already in your hold... or immediately craft a multitool/trac beam attatchment if you forgot to bring one.
As a new player and this being my starter ship thank you so much for such an indepth guide. I'm not sure if you still fly the vulture. But I have noticed the cargo snap is bugged or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I find once I snap the RMC crates to the back. The middle area of the grid doesn't recognise snapping. So unfortunately I can only carry 6 containers at any one time.

Struggling to make any money with Vulture scavenging during these two Drake Defence Con days. Putting aside losses due to 30ks and unexplained ship explosions, there are two other problems. Some of the 20k aUEC contracts don't reward 20k in salvage cargo. Since fitting salvaged weapons in to a Vulture is not really possible if the hold is full of cargo, that means you also need to salvage cargo. Which leads to problem two. We need to have a way to identify what each SCU cargo box contains as we are salvaging them.

Thanks for this. I won a Vulture and was wondering how to use it. I was feeling kind of lost. I tried to do a Salvage Contract with a little ship just to salvage the cargo. And there were three 1SCU cargo containers, but I couldn't find anywhere that would take it.
For your mining guide don’t forget about ROC mining cuz that changed too. This guide is great but I think it’s too early cuz guys like me can’t even get the vulture. It’s interesting but I can only collect the weapons and modules which isn’t even that profitable overall. Plus you didn’t even talk about hand salvaging…
I bought The Aegis Reclaimer at the very beginning. It should be very profitable and salvaging should be a must after major battles, also illegals most of the time. I'm hoping to be in a Pirate crew and do tax free salvaging of ships that refuse to pay.
One thing I wished you would have shown in your ultimate guide, was when you scan for salvage, how to distinguish between actual salvage, or asteroids

No mention of rmc canisters/Gand salvaging....
Nice 👌👍👍
Hand salvaging is useless from what I have seen the time to work put in, is not at all worth it
so without the ship i can only get the guns and that? Making it not worth at all :( kinda sad
I bought The Aegis Reclaimer at the very beginning. It should be very profitable and salvaging should be a must after major battles, also illegals most of the time. I'm hoping to be in a Pirate crew and do tax free salvaging of ships that refuse to pay.
26* boxes actually
Still a mission to find the loose salvage plates / pieces, these can bring in a nice profit, CIG seems to have limited these quite a bit
The game is already finished, they are playing it on a special server and the others have it like this because they earn more money
got 25 in
