Also tiny correction at 10:40: The current tech preview is for the seperated Replication Layer, NOT Server Meshing. I know that it says 'server meshing TRUE' in the game info, CIG has clarified on spectrum that this is wrong, and the dev who wrote that will be sanctioned to never write player-facing text again :).
It is only the Replication Layer test, just like they announced. It is not server meshing yet. It is also working pretty well, so that's great.

Your tutorials have helped both my father and I through many obstacles in Elite: Dangerous. It is a game that has united he and I in ways I never thought possible, and in a very unique way, you contributed to it. We have stuck with the game for over 3 years now. You made me laugh quite a bit in the beginning regarding "2001: A Space Odyssey." It was mind-blowing when it released (shout out to anyone else who saw it back then! LOL) No space monsters, etc. Just HAL. Before SHODAN or GLaDOS, we had HAL. Ooof.
I also tend to sing "Daisy, Daisy . . . " whenever the any in game computer system (ship) acts erratically ROFL Or a "I'm sorry, Dave" : )

I echo all that been said above. Your channel has been my goto ever since I've been playing ED over the years. Your up-to-date advice on ED will be sorely missed. However it's good to learn your videos will still be around so that I can keep referring to them as there is so much information in them that has been missed the first time around. What a shame Frontier has let Elite fade out with a whimper like this. They could've done so much more with procedural generation, from NPC ship types to things to collect from various populated worlds in the game's lore, etc.

I always thought the "Hello Dave" and red eye image reference was obvious, but then a question you don't know in a quiz can be very obvious to someone else.
An old film with stellar special effects that still stand up today, 2001:A Space Odyssey is a great film. Maybe it is falling from sight with the younger generation I've just got it on Bluray and I'm going to rewatch it soon. No real spoiler but if you've read the book it's based on by Arthur C. Clarke, I think the best way to describe it is you will connect with some of the more esoteric moments of the film. I watched the film then read the book with the films impressive imagery in my head. That worked for me.
As a last video on the channel for a while you should remove parts of your computer or set, as the playback gets slower and slo...wer.
BTW On a side note during the 2001 film, one of the astronauts watches a previously recorded interview that is broadcast on one of their 8n film future TV channels. That channel is BBC 12. Currently the British Broadcasting Corporation known as the BBC has 4 main domestic channels BBC 1-4, a 24hr news channel, a parliamentary channel (similar-ish to C-Span in the USA) and a couple dedicated to children's TV. Not quite there with 12 channels in 2023, but their domestic (UK) on demand internet iPlayer is something that kind of makes up for it.
Dave says, "Open the pod bay doors HAL."

Thank you so much! On the '2001: A Space Odyssey' explanation, it may be worth just pointing out the Elite (including Elite Dangerous) also includes many references to this film. The use of the music 'The beautiful blue Danube' while docking is taken directly from the 1968 film, which did exactly that, set a docking scene to that exact piece of music!
I'm sure the game also have numerous other references to the film, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a monolith out there somewhere but I'm sure there are plenty of station names that reference the films and the Arthur C Clarke novels. :)
But I'm sad to see you shut this down, maybe rather than `Goodbye Dave` it should be `I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that.` ;) Good luck and thank you so much!

I did yesterday a solo run with a reclaimer. Did 7 lawful salvage missions a2/m2/c2 for 50k aUAC. Only structural salvage (construction materials). Salvage a c2, take a route to next mission and at the same time, emptyed the puffer. I've got after 3 hours: 1760 SCU of cm =10,5m aUAC! Not very engaging gameplay, but good enough to watch a movie or else at the same time
Everyone watching this should take a peek at Hello Dave #1 - it really shows how far the journey of this channel has moved forward! Most of us here have been inviting Astro into our homes via UA-cam for years and he has always been the perfect guest and not many creators would put the brakes on a successful, growing channel and Patreon and start again to follow their passion.
I find astronomy etc. interesting, but tbh it is not one of my interests (if that makes sense), though I will check out your new channel - who knows, I may even learn something :) and maybe you will pop back here now and then to meet up with some old friends for the occasional live stream.
