Have you ran across any laser performance that had behavior contrary to the written stats? I’ve got an impact ii with all filtrs that outputs more power than my helix ii (reiger, rhine, torrent). For simplicity sake, I try to use the helix and the energy doesn’t even move at all, vs I swap to the impact and it does the job. I’m going to have a friend try the same load out tonight to see if it’s a “me” thing or my ship or my modules… I can recreate the issue and quickly eliminated it being related to the server I was on or the specific set of ricks where I first encountered it.
Where are the cheat sheets? The link goes no where and I have no idea what this google doc is. Nothing Im seeing is what Im seeing in your video.
@@opieshomeshop Also, if you have any specific questions, you can post them and still probably get input from others.
@@koawhkaine I just wanted the updated sheets but his website is down.
@@opieshomeshop the website was temporarily offline but it's back now.
One of the biggest changes not talked about by CIG or others is that if you lose your ship for some reason (30K, explosion, etc.) and reclaim it, it keeps the mining head AND the modules on the claims! No more losing as much as 120K worth of passive modules from a reclaim!
True, that's a huge benefit. Sadly 30K protection isn't working right now, and rocks have a tendency to destroy anything too delicate when they fracture, which ends up knocking out my modules anyway.
This was working at 3.18 too.
Does it replace modules that have partially consumed charges too? Cuz I could see that being exploited to avoid buying new ones.
@@jwonyoutube So here's my (untested) understanding of things: if you, for example, lose one of your mining heads completely, fly back to a port and _repair_ your ship, the missing mining head will _not_ get replaced through repair, and the game will recognize this as your new loadout. Basically the game treats this as if you just removed the part in question in the loadout manager, it doesn't keep track of modules that are no longer present. If on the other hand, you were to self-destruct after losing some piece of equipment _without_ repairing it inbetween, you will get all equipped modules replaced (as they were when you undocked in the first place).
That's how i understand the system after losing a wing on my mustang a couple times, and having the equipped guns on said wings permanently missing after repair and _not_ getting replaced if reclaimed after the fact.
Take this with a big grain of salt though, not at all sure that's all accurate.
@@snerls Technicaly it does. Yesterday exploding asteroid broke my modules to the point they fell off.
Once i came back to spaceport i was able to repair ir (for a price of new modules). So i think it is possible to replenish it after all uses only if station actualy sell this module. Dunno.
Ahhh THIS is the 3.19 mining video I've been waiting for. Knew it would be worth the wait, thanks Red 👍
You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, your hard work, and your commitment to the community!
I agree, I started getting into the mining and rented a prospector, one day I will own my own. Until then I'll take that loss and use this knowledge as best I can. I've already shared to someone I know that joined me for the new experience as well and can't wait to learn more. Thank you my good sir.
Oh boy you're quick on the draw! The spreadsheets you're providing are an absolute asset, thank you very much for your effort!
Hardwork should never go unnoticed! Thank you for making my mining life easier. You are the best!
You're welcome, and thank you for your support!

Man I didn't realize how much things had changed. Crazy! Thanks Red!
You sir are a mining profession guru! Great work and thank you so much for sharing your hard earned knowledge so I can enjoy the game too. I don’t have the time to do what you do but I so appreciate you sharing so that we can all enjoy the game to the full 🙏
I just started getting into SC and the industrial aspects of mining and salvaging are right up my alley and cup of tea. Thank you for the detailed and up to date info so I don't have to learn things twice in a short period of time. Cheers 🍻
Many thanks for this video and the useful sheets! Good work cap! :)
Great video explanation and information resources. Thanks!
Thanks a ton for your work on this stuff
Thanks Red, this was really handy. Liked and Subscribed. :)
I've been waiting for this! Thanks Red Monster, your work is appreciated!!
Great update and awesome job on the resources. Bravo!
I was waiting eagerly for this viedeo to come out, amazing job, as always!
Subbed, love your cheat sheets man, keep up the good work!
Great video on the mining changes!! It’s very comprehensive and was great to watch!!
Amazing and very informative, the cheat sheet is ESSENTIAL
Keep the GOOD work up, thx alot RED MONSTER 🙂
Another awesome video Red. The level of detail in your videos are just second to none which is why I learned 90% of my mining skills from your videos since I joined the Star Citizen community. I see a lot of solo miners disappointed and getting discouraged by the lack of breakable rocks in the Prospector in 3.19 and it's understandable, but as a solo miner myself (mostly), I still find the Mole to be the perfect ship as you can configure 3 different turrets power (low, med, high + different modules & gadgets) allowing you to break much bigger rocks on your own and also giving you the much needed 96 SCU cargo. You'll still need a crew or another ship to help you break the bigger rocks (30k+) but it opens up a lot more possibilities doing it in the Mole. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Prospector but my Mole is my go to ship 95% of the time. I'm a hard core miner which is why half of my pledged fleet is for my mining operations (Prospector, Mole and my C2). I'm the last person to ever suggest pledging ships but considering the fact that SC is still an Alpha and will encounter wipes from time to time, having my mining ships and C2 in my hangar after every wipes has been great and still remains a good option if your budget will allow it. Thanks again for the great video Red and a huge thank you and the members of your org in helping making those cheat sheets so accurate and indispensable. You guys are awesome and a great help to the community.. Cheers.
Great video. You were clear and succinct. It looks like I won't be able to achieve my 100% Quant in my Mole goal anymore though. :)
Thank You so much for your excellent informative information, very appreciated.
Holy moley! Very in-depth! 😁
A very good Mining summary video. Well done Red Monster for the hard work and sharing of knowledge. I did much flying around to get the same data when i should have just used your website :) DOH! :) I'm big into mining and industrial as well so should really look into your org. Based in Australia though... cheers!

Thanks @RAS, I won't give up!
tnx! excellent video
Great work as always. Thanks!
Great Vid man. Well done heaps of good content.
thank you for your service
Wow just found out this channel and videoguide and its amazing!, thnx for this! i needed to recycle my pre 3.19 mining mentality and info.
Glad I could help!
Just wanted to bring to your attention that on your cheat sheet for "Refinery Location Bonuses" It is missing the 9% bonus for copper at MIC L5 Modern Icarus Station. That said, awesome job on making the sheets!
Great video! The cheat sheets are amazing, thanks for making them. Loving the new mining system so far, it's nice to be able to find decent rocks quickly of many different sizes and not spend ages searching for quantanium. Now if we can just get these 30k s fixed...
Yep. Those 30ks have been rough so far, but as I always preach just have a bit of Patience and Optimism and things will smooth out in the coming weeks.
Thank you for the work and effort you put into spreading all this knowledge, you're a geologic scholar!
You could say my charts are pretty gneiss, and they shouldn't be taken for granite... ha!
@@RedMonsterSC Good one, lol
Bro this is the data i wanted and too lazy to do myself 😂. This is awesome.
thank you very much!
The best part of 3.19 mining overhaul, is that it’s simple & rewarding enough to just rent a Prosp and get going (great for curious 1st timers), but also it adds enough new complexity, loadout permutations and group strats (great for dedicated industrialists). The fact that Red - one of SC’s leading mining pros - said “imma have to rethink all my loadout preferences”… means the bar for endgame mining has been raised significantly.
This exactly, I bought sc a few days ago before 3.19, and I've been quite frankly wolfing down red's content, especially on mining. I rented a prospector yesterday, and put my hauls to refine... Going to log on today and see how much I got!
Although I still have a lot to learn, especially in piloting the prospector... Once I rammed against a small rock and it knocked out one of my thrusters. When I entered the landing bay it kept tipping over...
is it possible with the tractor beam update this patch to buy and attach different mining heads/modules to a rental prospector?
@@Adam-tg4mw you have to find the upgrades in the world
I cant find a way tonuse the ones bought ij store
I 100% was amongst the people banging on their desks trying to figure out why my laser stayed at 10% intensity
Nice video and lots of good info but my tip for those who use prospector is that buy mole salvage mission and change those prospector sattle bags for mole bags to get more cargo (48scu)
Top tier content dude. As per 👍
This is a great video. Well done.
Thanks!
I use a Helix center, Hofstedt at port, and an Impact at starboard.
I choose mostly passive modules that account for drawbacks, with the exception of the Impact. It offers a big charge window increase, and I add to it.
When it comes to scooping, I scoop it all. Money is money, and when it comes to fuel, this is why industrial drives are the way they are. Sure, I needed a military drive to ensure I was getting to port in time in the previous meta, but now I can take my time, and that means a fuel sipping, steady as she goes industrial drive is my go to.
I save on fuel transport by moving with a Herc. I only have to bust that baby out once every couple days when my refinery work orders are enough to fill it up.
Cash money, even with the cheap stuff. Quantity is a quality all its own.
Hi RedMonster
Thanks for all what you do in the mining SC world. What would we do without you.
They changed the price of the Janalite price it's 17,640 now.
Good callout. I'll be sure to have that updated in short order.
Very nice
Good job.
Awesome video Red!
The changes seem good overall but strangely I'm not really enjoying my prospector anymore.
Also as a note- nodes are now dynamic. Nodes no longer spawn at the same spot with the same mineral composition.
Let's goooooo
Added since 3.18, while in inventory mode “i” you can drag loose items near your feet right into the ship/local inventory windows. It works with anything you can hold (consumables, armor, fps weapons etc.) and cig has “physicalized” more items to work with the feature, now including modules and laser heads in 3.19
Yep, this is an awesome feature, and definitely one that I'll cover in more detail in a future video.
@@RedMonsterSC Awesome, it seems like tons of people missed this important 3.18 ability and how it ties into other major gameplay loops and professions. I'm busy trying to educate others in comments that are saying it can't be done lol
I actually like the alt+mouse wheel for laser power. In a prospector i can be in mining mode and still have control of my scm speed. Before i had to be sure my max speed wasnt set too high.
I think there's arguments either way. The one thing I keep coming back to is that the simpler control scheme should be the default, while the modifier key should be used for tuning changes. i.e. Holding more buttons for the majority of the time is actually bad interface design.
Add into the fact that a lot of people are about to accidentally Alt+F4 themselves in the middle of a mining session.. yeah. That's not going to be good.
Thanks for the quick release. I was lost a couple of days ago. I'm just wandering through the belt, wondering what happened.
Yep, a lot of things changed, and I think surface mining is going to get a lot more popular.
Finally :D
I just lost my upgraded mining head and surge while watching this video! Yayy for inactivity time out. I was laying in the freaking bed too.
It really pains me. I don't know how they can fix it or what exactly causes it but the whole server tick rate, or whatever, that leads to 30k disconnect is killing this game. And why it feels more painful this time then ever, is that mining gameplay, and I used your video and sheets (thanks again) is really spectacular at the moment. It feels so real, so fun, exciting, its awesome. And so is salvage, between both of these I have been having a blast, BUT at that moment of - on the way back to the refinery, or after loading up the vulture - along comes the 30k - and alas no protection comes my way. It's really painful this time. Perhaps they need to reduce the people on the server - I dunno, but this time - they have a really exciting universe- that really needs that extra push!
looks like they getting ready for the Orian ship with 100k size rocks
Broke a 23k mass rock solo in a prospector a couple days ago....it was sketchy but i got a good break
great video...now what loadout should i use for my prospector now? ;-)
All I look out for at this point is how much inert material it has. If it’s less than 10% I grab it. This means I can fill the prospector and take back to refinery quickly and then let the full haul process and then sell all at once as it all fits nicely in a Connie.
brilliant work - thank you so much - one Q your docs don't mention diamond- is diamond not an ore or mineable ?
Diamond has been removed in 3.19, so it won't be spawning in ore deposits. It had previously been an ore that could be harvested with a prospector or mole, and I'm excited to see what CIG plans for it in the future.
Pin this.@@RedMonsterSC
Try changing your Windows mouse scroll settings to “one line” from its default of 3-5 lines. Changing this made controlling the laser much easier for me. Your mileage may vary, but I hope this suggestion helps some be more successful mining in the Verse. o7
I’ve been renting a prospector for the last couple of days and it’s surprisingly very profitable! Just have to make more runs but 5-6 runs don’t take long at all.
Now need to just save up for my own prospector!
do you know if you can change / upgrade the head / modules on a rental prospector with the tractor beam update?
@@Adam-tg4mw You can remove the default head from what I've tried but youll either need a second person or a second ship to move the mining head since you cant use the vehicle manager. I know for sure you can add the mining consumables since your character and hold them and then tractor them onto your ship.
With these huge rocks right now, can we dream with Orion coming anytime soon
really cool that now you can mine tier 1 instead of quantanium so no more worry about your ship exploding which is a nice QOL
whats the go to prospecter attachments now? im more of a solo prospecter enjoyer
I'd think a Helix laser with a Surge and an XTR-XL module would be a good balance to push your laser power a little further, while not killing your optimal charge window.
It is great although I think we've been nerfed from a profitability standpoint. In that previously you could consistently fill your hold with a large % of quant on every run. Where as now you need to find several good tier 1 spawns and due to the tier 2/3 extra bits taking up cargo space you'll return with a lower quantity of valuable cargo.
That being said I think it's more that we were very spoilt before, but compared to salvaging mining is definitely less profitable now.
Don't get me wrong I love the new mechanics and changes I just think resource distribution could use some changes, or the lower quality rocks could be bumped up in value to make them worth refining.
@@ThatCK we were EXTREMELY spoilt before. People could make millions in a weekend of chain running perfect quant runs. Sure you needed to be an experienced miner and know all the tricks of the trade but it realistically shouldn’t be possible for a solo industrialist to rack up tens of millions with that little effort.
people could re-map the power controls to make the "alt-mouse wheel" the laser speed, and the scroll wheeel the power as it was before. Not too hard to do.
Jezuz, what an awesome job, Red! Thanks a lot.
I'm afraid to ask... but will we see something like that for salvage by any chance?
...and it seems like, it's finally time to melt my good old Prospector 😔
The salvage game loop hasn't changed MUCH, however we do have the new salvage contracts that make locating salvage a lot easier. The material I had prepped for Salvage back in december still holds true, but it is on the list for updates as we get new gameplay features for it.
Well the new rarity of Quantanium will have to change if it's to remain the only fuel source, some ships will be designed as deep space exploration and will be required to source Quantanium as fuel.
first time mining with my friends found many rocks with quantanium even a 150k rock with 40% Quant, we couldn't even budge it with a full crew mole unfortunately. But ever since that day i've almost never seen quantanium especially at that mass :/
Feels like they've essentially nerfed Prospector mining, they need more common rocks only size 1 lasers can safely break, having 2/3 impossible to mine is ridiculous.
Good work! So yes random seems to be the rule again regarding rock spawning. However biomes have been added to planets files, so I wonder how that weighs in to spawning?
Biomes added to planet files? Plz elaborate!
There are biomes listed as sub-items in several locations, but none that I have seen have included any unique rock spawning rates.
My prospector lost it's saddle bags yesterday, and just keeps spawning without them. I have both used repair and destruction followed by claim.
I did a test run after buying it, sold the ore (not refining, just sold it) and replaced the head. After that the sadle bags has been missing.
Drill Team 6!
Amazing work on those docs for calculations! On another note, i can never crack anything past 35k even with the helix II and ur loadout from almost point-blank distance i've found 39 47 and 43k rocks and none of them even bulge, like usin all 3 modules + gadget nothing. Worst one was a bexa of 48% in a 36k mass rock. Had 5 surge/stampede replacements, bore Max/stelwart/ sabir/ gadgets, and tried all of them. I even tried with the Impact II and that one got a lot closer but would stop about 80% of the way into the charge window. There still some testing to be done Maybe i need the best power plant if that helps?. Also lost about 1.2mil today because game crashes to client sometimes when opening inventory to grab or place items, and the game throws me out of the server when i relog meaning i can't get back on the ship. Would be nice if CIG allowed you to join the shard or server your ship is if it's still "alive". If not send it to the nearest station storage. pretty disheartening and unfair to want to play, but after all these years, u can't go and mine something and complete the loop because of bugs and stuff.
For anyone making a run with a mole. Add someone from the chat that will stay in your current server for some time just in case u disconnect he can invite you back so u dont lose your ship like i did. Cuz now im broke because i lost most of my gadgets and dont even have enough to buy more until a refine is done.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried to swap out mining heads on the rental prospector using the tractor beam multitool. If possible, that would be a big win for those of us who need to grind up to buying a prospector or MOLE with UEC
I’m trying to find this out too. Hopefully someone can tell us.
What I've found is that you CAN swap the lasers around, although I haven't been able to remove the current laser from my inventory to get it on the ground, and my old laser likewise cannot be stored.
The Arbor mining laser is a decent starter, although the high resistance means you'll have difficulty with larger mass rocks.
@@RedMonsterSC cheers! That's helpful! I'll update you if I have any success
Increase your Prospector’s cargo capacity by 50% by stealing the saddle bags off a Mole!
They should just get rid of the timer for Quant, it can still be volitial but have it tied to damage the ship takes while having it on board or if you have sudden spikes in GeForce from bad piloting. After one of those two conditions are met then the timer could start is you want to keep that system in play
I think its a precursor to multi-system mining, where we might need to run through a jump point while still on a timer because there won't be refineries out in Pyro.
I just wish it was easier to sort what I can mine with appropriate sensors
I found a 90k mass 40% quant rock the other night 😂
