    I bought my Les Paul Standard in 1991 and it's a beautiful red sunburst. I had serious health problems and haven't played her much but I'm getting back into her. I purchased a "Micro Mustang mini pocket amp" because my son let a bass player use my small Marshall and it mess up. "Buzzes". I don't know if it's my imagination but the LP sounds a lot better in her old age.

    Hi Ron, Such great information, but I'm hoping you can help me as I'm in an information void. I have inherited a Gibson ES 335td. I know it is not a reissue as we can trace it in the family back to the early 70's. The serial number is 729321. I thought that the "72" meant it was from 1972 which sounded about right, but the more research I do, the more I realize that that may not be the case and it might be older, maybe pre-Norlin era. It was suggested to me that the "td" on the label inside the guitar might help as Gibson stopped using that designation at some point. Is there any way to know exactly how old it is?

      Hi, sorry for not answering you until now, but I'm on vacation right now and only check my emails occasionally. Unfortunately, with the six-digit numbers, it is very difficult to give an exact date of manufacture without seeing the instrument. The six-digit numbers were sometimes randomly assigned up to four times. Perhaps the following additional information will help you. Semi Hollow ES-335 six digit numbers 1966-69 with orange label, the 68-69 have a mere 1.65 nut and mostly a .850 or thinner neck on the first fret, / 70'-75' with purple/white label and "Made in USA". " on back of headstock, Apex Headstock (Heel)stamp. If it's a 60's in good, neat and original condition, it's valued between $8,000 - $12,000 a 70's (Norlin) $4,000 - $6,000. I hope you find this information helpful, if you are still unsure you can email Gibson customer service directly with photos of the guitar and they will usually respond to your questions within a few days. Keep on rocking, Ron

    Thanks for the video man. Could you help me with a model number? It’s LPSB6NH1. I'm intrigued by de B5 meaning black 50s neck?

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  Рік тому

      Hi, without seeing the guitar it's not possible to give an exact answer. LP stands for Les Paul but the S could stand for Standard, Studio or Special / B = probably color and 5 = decade of construction. You can send a photo to Gibson customer service and you will usually receive the response you need within a few days. Keep on rocking! Ron

      I could email you pics, it is a goldttop with black on the back. By the way I figured out something with the number... it is actually LPSB6NH1, 6 stands for 60s neck is not as wide as others (50s). Still... B is a mystery… maybe it was initially black and someone painted it because Goldtops have a "GT" in the model number.@@ronwall

      Hi, just giving an exact assignment/designation based on the letters and numbers without the serial no. is a bit like reading in a crystal ball. The year of manufacture is just as important as which line Stanard, Studio, Junior etc. was the guitar built. For example, I own a Studio Goldtop that has an LPSBGNH1 which is: Les Paul Studio Body Gold Nikel Hardware 1 (1=fits quality check). If your supposed 6 could also be a G then BG could stand for Body Gold. But Gibson could give you the exact details using the serial number. Regards, Ron

      Hi, you can find all the information at the top of the original packaging (cardboard box) in which the guitar/hardcase was delivered. There is usually a white sticker on which all information such as model number/serial number/date etc. can be found. I cut out these stickers every time a guitar arrives so I have all the information about the guitar. If you no longer have the original packaging, you can send an email directly to Gibson who will send you the shipping data, which also contains all the information, at least that was the case with the owners before 2018, so I don't know if it's still the case with the new owners . Keep on Rocking Ron

    Hey Ron, I have a 6 digit Gibson 365. Any suggestions on how can I find the history and info? Cheers

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  3 роки тому

      Hi, royo, thank you for your request. Based on your sparse serial number information, there are many possibilities. The six digits speak for a custom shop model. Depending on the year when it was manufactured, the first two numbers can stand for the year and the four following numbers for the production number, or the first number stands for the year and the second number for the production location of the guitar followed by the four production numbers of guitars manufactured that year. Another possibility would be to expand the pickups and see if the pickups have a year of manufacture. But it would be easiest if you send an email directly to Gibson's custom center (email address on the Gibson homepage). Keep on rocking! Ron

    Is it possible to find the correct type of model by the SerialNumber?
    mine from a Les Paul junior is 108411398, but i don't know if it's a faded or special.
    is it possible that they manufactured 1398 guitars a day?

    What does that mean? Thanks

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  3 роки тому

      Hi Alan, I congratulate you on this wonderful instrument. The serial number is a 1997 studio made on April 17th and the 303 guitar that was produced that day. 1997 was an important year for Gibson as they improuved the build quality. The Les Pauls from 1997 on have again been adapted in the processing of the 50s models. The gluing, neck-frets - varnishing-electronics everything came new and more traditional on the market.With that you have an excellent guitar! Keep on rocking, Ron

    I have a Gibson L5 1947 serial # A195 Kalamazoo Michigan what can you tell me about it ?

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  3 роки тому

      Hi Jazemin, thank you for your inquiry. In fact, there is little more to say about the L5 than that it is a wonderful instrument and that 1940s models in good condition are worth around $ 10,000. Eric Clapton owns an L5 1947/48 and regularly plays his L5 live. Keith Richard / Ron Wood also own an L5 and play it at Rolling Stones concerts so it is not just a big band, jazz or blues guitar as many believe. In any case, I congratulate you on your wonderful instrument. Keep on rocking! Ron

    I have an Les paul deluxe with serial 133628, Can you help me to discover what is the year ?

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  4 роки тому

      The Deluxe with the mini humbuckers was produced from 1968. Because of the 1 at the beginning, it was produced in Kalamzoo and the following numbers indicate a production year between 1970-1972 and should have a multi-part neck made of three lines glued and a neck heel. Keep on rocking !! Ron

    Hi! how do you read LPCAWGH1?

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  4 роки тому

      Hi Alex, it is always difficult without a photo, as you probably know yourself Gibson changed her letter names regularly, but I suspect: LP=Les Paul - CAW= Classic Antique (White?) - GH= Gold Hardware - 1= Regular production (with a 3 in the end it would be a special (Ltd) series). Keep on Rocking! Ron

    I got a standard which serial number is 94048121,is that fake? because the 404th day is not possible

    • @ronwall
      @ronwall  5 років тому

      Gibson guitar day numbers can be numbered to 900. This is because gibson made guitars in different plants and had their own daily counter for each factory. After the numbering, your guitar was produced on February 8th 1998 as the 121 instrument of that day. Whether it's a real Gibson I can not judge. As an aid, you can watch my video: Ron Wall, Fake, Gibson, Les Paul.
