- So the question the Lads & Lassies ask the most are always, how fast should I ride, and how long do I make my rope for wakeboarding.
Well today's your lucky wake day! I've given you some rough estimates and instructions for getting it right to make wake to wakes and basic inverts easier.
Thanks for watching.
Dave
Hope you like the video and I look forward to seeing what speeds, rope lengths and boats you ride on.
I want to correct myself at 2.34 - 23mph is 37 not 27 (Typo).
Thanks for watching.
Dave
2007 Supra Sunsport 24V. 65' @ 20.5mph. I eat the shit a lot.
Finally got a chance to ride the David OC O'Brien board I bought on pre-order, and no fins, the board pops and sticks better than any board I've ridden. I didn't eat the shit once. I'm stoked about getting back out on it.
Speed up, faster the boat narrows the wake. Try 21-21.5, I ride 65, at 21.5... with a progressive to smooth edge,, I don't like an aggressive edge,, seems like it moves faster than I want to comprehend.
23ft Centurion both lockers full 21mph 65foot line puts you in the sweet spot with non other than my DOC Valhalla signature board pops me high in the air so everyone can read the bottom. Thank you Dave for the great videos. Cheers mate:)
1994 Ski Nautique 20mph and usually 60ft rope but depends on the weight in the boat. If we have a big crew and ballast we are running. We have got up to 70 ft and 23 mph when the big boys are on the boat.
Very important to get the weight balanced, if not one side is always washed out no matter what the rope length
1999 Malibu Sunsetter LXI 21 footer direct drive boat with a 450lb sack on either side of the engine with the wedge down. 60ft rope at 20.5mph or 65ft rope at 21.5 mph for more advanced riders. We even shorten the rope up to 55ft at 19 mph for beginners learning to go wake to wake.
Holy crap!ive been using a 75 foot rope behind my seadoo wake pro jetski and 23 mph and never able to clear the whole wake, can’t wait to try a shorter rope Now,I’ve been on 75 feet for 2 years now and have come pretty close to clearing it,thanks for covering that!
Hi David,
I’m Abigail, I am nine and I’m leaning to wake board because I think it’s awesome. I really love watching your videos and wondered if you could give me some tips. I can already ride switch and go switch out of the wake. What would you recommend me to do next?
From Abigail
Axis t23 and t22 I drive around 32-33 kmph. Was Dave forgot to mention in this video is that the faster you go the smoother you glide on the surface effectively making riding smoother and the wave is more compact and stiffer offering a better pop, but then it boils down to technique
You are so o good at wakeboarding and u inspire me to go out and wakeboard
Wave Runner thank you! Keep enjoying it!
2006 Sea Doo Wakeboard Edition 155 Jet Ski. I ride short about 40ft. Speedometer is broken. Usually about 4000 RPM
21 foot Nautic Star deck boat with outboard engine with 750 lb fat sack. Normally four to six people on board. 65 foot rope at 20 miles an hour. I tried to set my rope length to exactly where the wave looks the best. As far as speed I could probably speed up a little bit but I'm a newbie. One year of wakeboarding this weekend David going to get that 180
2023 Centurion ri230. 53’ @ 19.2 mph. Practicing first few flips. Still experimenting and trying to figure out how to get bigger pop.
2002 Super Air Nautique 210 w/ 2500lbs of ballast. 90ft rope at 26.7mph. It honestly doesn't feel that fast and long, and it gives me more time to relax into the wake. But I also like 80ft at 25.2mph. When I try riding at 70-75ft at 23.5-24.5mph, I feel like I land with the parking brake on and fall a lot more.
2004 moomba mobius lsv
Bags full, 22 mph, 70 foot line.
Riding the O'Caoimh signature 🤙👍
I have an 05 Mobius LSV with the O'Caoimh signature I'll have to try that 🤞 I think my ropes a little short, line tension seems high
On my 2015 mastercraft nxt 20 I go 65ft at about 21.8 mph that’s the sweet spot
Jonthepotter
and you should do a video on wakeboarding in different places his yours and others love watching
2006 SkySupreme, 65 foot rope at 23 mph
I put about 800 lbs in the front with extra fat sacks to flatten it out and the wake is *perfect*
2018 axis t22. 22.6 mph 75ft rope full ballast plus 400lbs lead. Wedge click 3.
Thank you so much! This video helped me a ton! But can u teach me the proper way to pick up a rider that has fallen?
2012 MB F21 Tomcat. 70’ and 21mph. I’m 5’8” 150 lbs and intermediate rider doing inverts.
1989 Glastron 😅 gets the job done. There’s not a speedometer either but my dad knows the boat and right where I need it for speed👌🏽
2019 seado wake pro around around 43.5 feet and 33-35 mph
I like the jetski video. Can I ask what jetski you had there was it a two stroke. As I was wondering if my yamaha 700 two-stroke will.be enough power. Also did you have a tow pylon on the ski to get the rope higher. Or what height do to reckoned as I was going to make one for my ski. Thanks
86 Malibu skier with ski pylon 62 feet at 22mph with 4 or 5 people in the boat , driver always has a hard time keeping the boat level when I start my edge back in it wants to pull the boat down to the side I'm edging on.
22 mph at 60 tp 70 feet back 2008 Yamaha AR230- 1700 pounds added ballast, and perfect pass installed. I have to up the speed for the weight
as someone alot older than you we used to ride 80-90' lines in loaded down 210's and x stars. in ret trospect probably hindered me progressing above an intermediate rider but still had fun; but alot of buddies did great.
m f hahah I hate to show my age but I was wakebosrding in those time 😂. It’s about 10?years ago now since I’ve rode an 85ft rope but I do remember it well!
I have an 03 SANTE and if I fill it to max 3000lbs you have to go 24 -25 mph to clean the wake up at 85ft. And the crashes are terrible. I was younger then. Experience tought me about 1800lbs at 21.5mph at 70feet. The sweet spot right before it crashes is about 2 feet behind me but I refuse to splice my rope.
Hey David nice video. What is your favorite type of boat to ride behind. I might be wake boarding behind a boat this weekend if I feel well enough to do it. I unfortunately have been sick lately so I hadn't been able to ride lately
1999 Malibu sportster
68', 16-20mph depending on if the wedge is down/ fat sacks are full
What fat sacs do you use for the sportster?
We ride at at 65’ at 20-21 behind our 1996 Nautique Super Sport (a SAN 210 with no factory ballast) this speed is nearly impossible to keep consistent when the ballast is loaded up. We’ll have to try going a little faster with it weighted.
2013 Malibu wakesetter: 65 feet 20.8 mph
And 79 feet at 21.6 mph
2011 axis a20. full ballast, wedge down, added 600lbs in the bow. 75ft rope, 23mph
Sea doo wakepro not sure what the rope length is but I think I should shorten it to 45 ft cuz I can’t get a wake to wake but I can do 180s single wake
2009 Mastercraft x15

2019 Axis A22, 70’ rope @ 21.8 MPH, and power wedge III on setting 4. makes for a lofty wake. Pop comments from the Bhoys - “Straight to Pluto”
Is a 136cm board way too small for a 160lb rider, I got the board for free but don’t know how well it will work?

2016 sea ray sdx240 65ft rope length, do you guys think it is worth getting fat sacks or anything to add weight?
I'm new to wakeboarding and I know this is probably a dumb question but how do you stop a wakeboard? Would I just let go, or slow the boat and fall back in the water?
Just let go.. but slowing the boat down works too if you have a way of communicating with the driver
@@quentintraffie4128 ok thank you!
@@remington950 remember to keep your weight back when slowing down.. the slower you're going the easier it is to catch your edge
2008 206 ski nautique limited - 20.5mph - 55 feet
I feel like I can get enough air
13 ft Boston whaler 20 ft rope 12 mph Tank in the back of the boat

2019 Mastercraft X22, rope length 65 feet, speed 35.6 km/h
I found 2 boats i like but dont know which one to chose.
I found 1 for my hole family + dogs but is 15kmph for 1700euro and it’s fancy. It’s 20hp
And I found one 50kmph but it’s older and it’s for 4 persons and cant fit my dogs. Way smaller and less fancy. But me and my friends can go and play with it. That’s one is for 1200 euro. It’s 40hp
Engines are really expensive here and that’s why I don’t just buy the fancy one with a nice engine. Would at least be 700 euro. I m not allowed to go harder than 13kmph but my friend are. In 8 months I m allowed to go 20kmpu. But I dont really care about that.
What should I do. I m probably the one most using it. But my parents pay more.
87 glastron ssv178 with ski pole 70ft at 21 mph!
G23 full ballast at 75' at 23mph NCRS 5
I feel the g23 is the only exception here. I have ridden them a few times and I feel above 22 mph the wake is so big and clean when it's full 75 ft to 85ft feels the same resistance to me with just tons of air and much larger penalty for mistakes. But if you go to short you overshoot everything...
Just got a 2019 Moomba Makai and am trying to figure out the best length/speed. Was running behind a Ranger 180vs with a skipole before so this is quite a change lol. I'd appreciate any tips y'all might have!
Alexander Wetmore I’m doing 55ft at 17 mph
I ride a four winns h180 at 20 with a 65 foot rope
