    Hi everyone, I'm not sure if my responses to comments are showing up so I'm posting this comment as a general response to some of the questions:
    1. The floor is floating and not glued down.
    2. The 1/4" spacing allows for the floor to expand and contract due to temperature and humidity fluctuations.
    3. A 1/4" thick foam flooring underlayment was installed under the LVT floor planks.
    4. 1 year later and the floor is holding up great. No gaps or shifts in the tile joints.

    I love the build and am in the late stages of design for my own 5x8 conversion but was wondering what you did to protect the underside from water and other damage? My current plan I’d to seal any gaps with silicone and then oat the underside with trunk bed-liner but would love to hear what you went with!

      Are you talking about the underside of the floor outside the trailer? If so mine was simply undercoated and then I screwed insulation to it. I will maybe put a sheet layer to protect the insulation but honestly it's been exposed for almost a year now and looks completely fine.

    Hello Joel, I have been watching your project. I need to find out the brand or make of the foam subflooring you purchased. I searched in you comments but you didn't include the description. Thank you.

      Sorry about that! I'll update my description. I couldn't find the exact product but this is similar: www.rona.ca/en/underlayment-with-vapour-guardtm-63345876

    Do you really need a 1/4 spacer around the floor for such a small space? Perhaps 1/8 of an inch since I doubt there will be hardly any expansion

      @JoelTremblayCA  2 місяці тому

      I did 1/4 and this was 3 years ago. No problems. I've personally seen what happens when you don't give any room for expansion, not good results.

    Hey Joel. Im at the flooring stage now in my 5x10. Have you had any issues with the floor yet? Im in Alberta so we should have similar winters. Im just worried about it lifting up with the extreme weather changes here.

      I haven't had any issues at all! Some very minor defects but that's from user error / scratching it by just putting stuff inside the trailer. Thanks for watching and good luck with your build!

      @@JoelTremblayCA what did you use as the “ threshold” I guess you’d call it where the rear door opens, you have the floor perfectly level with something there?

    Am I correct in thinking that you had installed both layers of rigid foam insulation on the walls and ceiling as well as ran the wiring, before installing the flooring? I had seen your full project time lapse but could not remember exactly. For my trailer to camper build out I think that a new floor could get damaged by other construction, so it would be best to wait until the last step. However, most van lifers do as you do. Do you have any reason why you chose the floor at that point in your build? Thanks again for another vid that has helped me.

      I don't think it really matters at what point you install the floor. I did it early and kept a protective layer on-top during the rest of the build. If you do your walls first, the gap will need to be covered with floor trim. Thanks for watching!

    What happens with the 1/4 space?

    • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  2 роки тому +1

      It allows the floor to move / expand and contract as needed due to temperature and humidity flux.

    How has the flooring held up to the vibration

    • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  3 роки тому +1

      So far so good. Only time will tell!
      I did not glue the floor down thinking that it would allow the floor to move a bit as needed.

    I don’t know why they need 1/4” expansion around vinyl flooring. This stuff will not absorb moisture and expand nor will it shrink.

    • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  Рік тому

      The product itself inherently will shrink and expand with fluctuations of temperature.
