Tombstone is one of those movies that only comes around once in a life time... perfect cast, perfect script, perfect performances. Just an all around fantastic film.
It’s very rare for a film to be cast so damn perfectly. Even the supporting cast outside of “The Gang” was spot-on! Just an outstandingly well cast and directed film.
So much respect for Kurt who basically had to direct the movie once the original director got fired/ quit. He was able to finish a really difficult movie shoot and make it into a modern classic

Because Ringo being educated, did not have to become a thuggish cowboy gunfighter and killer, he had choices, and chose an evil path. This is evident in the opening scene.
That lateral spin Biehn does really sold it! I've seen people twirl guns in westerns before, but that flat lateral spin and fan that he was doing in the film was something I didn't even know you could DO. Twirling a gun and shooting a gun aren't the same thing, but the idea that Ringo could spontaneously whip out a twirling routine with a loaded gun and never drop it, have it fire, or slip in the slightest definitely gave him this aura of awesome! Biehn is always going to be one of my favorite guys due to the films he was in, and his routine here helped sell the finale in a BIG WAY. The better your villains look, the more outstanding the heroes look when they beat him!
@@sugarnads Depends on whether the gun is single-action or double-action; a double-action revolver is cocked and then fired by pulling the trigger once. Probably pretty hard to accidentally cock and fire a gun just by spinning tho, since double-action guns have a very heavy trigger pull.

If you pay attention to Val's roles, he does the coin-over-fingers dexterity skill training a lot. Like in Real Genius. Or the pen flip in Top Gun. High level dexterity.
Not to diminish Val, but it just takes a lot of practice. You can achieve any feat of dexterity as well. When my son was a baby, I taught myself to juggle and finger flick cards from the deck to my opposite hand in about 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not boasting, just hoping to encourage someone to learn something they wish they could do!
@@DSGreen I learned to do the coin trick by watching Real Genius. I taught myself how to do the card flip from one hand to the other while sitting in a hospital bed for a few weeks. In that scene, when Doc is mimicking Ringo’s moves, that is when he realizes he has met his match, despite being a lunger. He almost copies him move for move with the cup. Great scene. Amazing movie
This had to be one of the most talent stacked films of all time. 7:34 even Boothe's "Curly Bill" is laughing at Doc's cup spinning (de-escalation of deadly tension)
Just pure, utter brilliance! Not much else needed to be said about the film, acting, how it’s written, staged, performed, encapsulated, etc. I saw it in the theater and probably 200 times since then. It will live on forever - just like Wyatt Earp and his immortals!
So much fun the film Tombstone. Many fantastic actors we've known and loved and yes, Val CRUSHED the Doc Holiday role but I TOTALLY take my hat off to Michael Biehn. He brought a real gunslinger to life and was a VERY believable character and it would NEVER have been as great without 'em. Thanks, Michael-for Tombstone, Terminator, and so many more.
These guys could really act the shit out of anyone. Val was awesome. Kurt never pulled the Star of the Movie bulls..t. He is a real down to earth guy and didn't mind these scene stealing actors showing their stuff.
Except for getting the original director fired and replaced, and then getting the story changed to fit Kurt's own narrative. I think Kurt Russell is great, but he did pull his movie star strings.
Biehn's reactions are just perfect, absolutely sells the Johnny Ringo character as authentic, just a wonderful acting performance. The perfect adversary for Doc Holliday.
That absolutely kills me about the cup. I was thinking about Biehn kind of scoffing at "did you already know how to do this?" because Val came into the movie knowing how to do that coin roll, that over-the-knuckles-and-through-the-woods routine he does when Doc is first introduced. Well, there's some other flick of his where his character is rolling quarters over both hands simultaneously; you know he came in with the spirit the question asker is first describing here: "hey! Look what I can do!" So the fact that he just had that cup with him everywhere on set is hysterical. He felt he needed to sharpen up some of his legerdemain as well haha
More than the gun spinning skills, what amazes me is actors who are capable of morphing so deeply into their characters. Michael Biehn and Val Kilmer are 2 of them.
@Ultra CNC umm. Seriously??? Lol🤣🤣 Drexel Reksler, Dungillisi bunglaza, Faglin Xandini and my cousin who played a small role were the actors that really made the movie pop. They didnt get the credit they deserved.
Michael did a really great job as Ringo. Thell by the way, is a Legendary Holster maker. He was also a member of the Southwestern pistol league that included Jeff Cooper, Jack Weaver, Ray Chapman and Others, True Legends.
Michael did a great job with that part and seemed perfect for it but because of that scene I feel no one paid attention to the great acting of Kurt just with his expressions as it took great experience to tell the story with just his expression and his eyes. I love this movie so much I have picked it apart a million times and it gets better each time. Thanks for showing the clip at the end of Michael's tutorial as it makes it so much more pertinent. Of course the dumb ass academy robbed Val of an Oscar~!!!
Michael Biehn absolutely crushed this role. I learned to mimic his routine and gained such a great respect for his ability and just the sheer cool factor of it. What he says about getting the routine correct 1 out of 10 times is so true. One little deviation to the momentum of how you’re twirling and the movement can just send the gun flying. I’m glad he threw in the tid bit about Val spinning the cup on set for hours. It’s the only way he could have convincingly done the routine with a tin cup. Spinning a gun is hard. Spinning a non-gun item in the way someone spins a gun is just baffling. What an amazing film.
In the old West it would have been a tin cup, but the one in Val's hand is pewter, it's about 3x the weight, MUCH easier to twirl. (The solid flat bottom is the giveaway) How do I know ? I've got a pewter tankard of exactly the same design and it's VERY heavy.
Walking my way home from work, I get to the corner of my road, I’d always get my keys out and twirl the key loop I have attached, around and around, with a final flick to get the actual key to my fingers to stick it into the lock once I reach my door... I’ve had the loop around for 14yrs, started the day I got it. Only after watching this, do recall why I started doing it ...it’s the damn ‘Cup Scene’ I’m trying to reenact ☝🏼😆
As soon as the MC started to elude to the scene, Biehn started to flick the microphone.... Watch it. That's a second nature muscle memory. Movie will be in the history books forever!
Holiday's response to Ringo's fancy pistol work was basically saying " you're pistol tricks are worthless when when it get's down to actually shooting someone. "
I grew up watching the movies him and Biehn were in (Terminator, Aliens,Navy Seals and Tombstone etc)...I felt sad when I found out Bill had died and I'd be equally sad when Michael dies
Look darlin, Johnny Ringo I love that in this scene Doc makes Johnny out to be a fool. Reminds me of the scene in Game of Thrones where Ned tells Jaime he doesn’t compete in tournaments, preferring to show what he can do on the battlefield where it counts
I love movies and the nuances of scenes. In The Avengers Hulk come charges in and Thanos counters with a jab to the throat, knocking him back, and Hulk was hurt for the first time, and knew he would loose the fight. When Doc mirrored what Ringo's spinning, Ringo knew he could never defeat Doc. Great scene.
I didn't care for Tombstone but I did like that scene. When Val Kilmer gets to twirling the cup and showing just what a fool thing twirling a pistol is, that was priceless.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to watch
@@KrazyKlips and we appreciate the Great job You did, and the Effort you put into these, especially with the scenes following.
Big tense scene, Johnny Ringo does the gun spinning, brilliant job on Michael's part BTW
And then Val starts spinning the cup😂
I think this is 1 of the best scenes of this movie. Really builts the tension for other meetings of Ringo and Holiday.
The mustache brush at the end it what made it that much better
I'm just wondering whose idea it was to twirl the cup, it seems a little too clever for the script....
Oh I know haha I died laughing 😂!
Michael Biehn nailed and sold the pistol spinning scene. Underrated actor, not sure why that is.
Thanks for bringing to light one of the best scenes in Western making history. What a great movie.
That one line, "Smells like something died" was the most cold blooded in the whole movie!
Michael is a fucking legend 😁 my favorite childhood actor. Possibly still my favorite.
One of the many great scenes in that movie
He aint no daisy.
He was just too high strung
He ain't no daisy at all!
“I want your blood. And I want your souls. And I want them both right now!”
Matt Dessecker WELL YOU GOT TROUBLE!!!
Wretched slugs........don’t any of ya have the guts to fight for blood?!
Victoria Ollier Im your Huckleberry.
Say when?
I beg to differ sir, we started a game we never got to finish. Play for blood, remember?
Tombstone was one of the greatest movies of all time!
Look what I can do!"
So the fact that he just had that cup with him everywhere on set is hysterical. He felt he needed to sharpen up some of his legerdemain as well haha
More than the gun spinning skills, what amazes me is actors who are capable of morphing so deeply into their characters. Michael Biehn and Val Kilmer are 2 of them.
Stephen Lang as drooly McDrunkwit too !
Not the same guy as Avatar !
Loved his "Ringo". For me he and Kilmer made that movie immortal.
Johnny Ringo was probably my favorite character! Intense and dark! Tombstone - my all time favorite movie. ❤️
No one will ever out do that scene
Drexel had the best performance in that movie and was robbed of an oscar.
@Ultra CNC umm. Seriously??? Lol🤣🤣 Drexel Reksler, Dungillisi bunglaza, Faglin Xandini and my cousin who played a small role were the actors that really made the movie pop. They didnt get the credit they deserved.
@Ultra CNC 😟 ok.
@Ultra CNC 😣
@Ultra CNC 🤧
"...look darlin...it's Johnny Ringo..."
BEST LOOKING MAN IN A WESTERN/BINGO GREAT/LOVE BAD BOYS!
Should I hate him????
Michael did a really great job as Ringo. Thell by the way, is a Legendary Holster maker. He was also a member of the Southwestern pistol league that included Jeff Cooper, Jack Weaver, Ray Chapman and Others, True Legends.
Johnny Ringo: I was just fooling about
Doc Holiday: I wasn't
Johnny Ringo: alright Lunger, let's do it.
That was classic.
Yes it was and also when doc said "And this time it's legal".
What did he mean by "Lunger" ?
@@Simpleburger1968 Doc Holliday had teburculosis...a lung disease.
aah, thank you, I did wonder if it was anything to do with that....just seemed a strange word to use..
@@Simpleburger1968 It was a sort of derogatory term of the time, if I remember correctly.
Michael biehn. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
Johnny Ringo. He was the BEST HANDS DOWN
Michael Biehn=Ineffable Cool A' la Steve McQueen:)
One of the most underrated and hardest working actors of all time. I'm so glad he's going to be in Mandalorian season 2.
Watched Tombstone last night...love the pistol twirling scene!! 😊
Easy Johnny, I hear he's real fast.
The fact he can do that while maintaining eye contact is nuts. And that Doc mocs him with the same eyes lol "something around the eyes"
Michael and Powers Booth had the greatest stares. What Excellent casting !
I cant imagine anyone else in any of the actor rolls they played, absolutely a perfect movie in my mind and in every way....
@@Beemernow ...the Johnny Ringo head shot was a little questionable, and nasty Ike not getting his ass stomped or killed early on ...
I really enjoyed Powers Booth. He was an entertaining villain lol. What's funny is he seemed even younger than when he was Jim Jones.
Rickarama Trama - this movie is what they call catching lightening in a bottle.
He was very good, Kurt Douglas also did a lot of his own style spinning of a colt 45 Way back when, for a movie was very good also
One legendary western that can be seen again and again A true Masterpiece!
(The solid flat bottom is the giveaway)
How do I know ? I've got a pewter tankard of exactly the same design and it's VERY heavy.
Terminator
Aliens
The Abyss
Tombstone
Navy Seals
The Rock
Does he die in all his movies?
He doesn't die in Aliens. Hicks is killed off in the intro for Alien 3, which James Cameron was not a fan of (nor Biehn).
"The only man to die in cinema more than Sean Bean." ~The Nostalgia Critic
@@Paulafan5 "Fuck Alien 3." ~Michael Biehn
He survived in Planet Terror if I remember correctly.
@@ForceMaximus84 nope he died in bunker when it blew up
Holy shit. Something I haven’t seen about Tombstone 1000 times!
One of the best scenes ever in a movie!
A great moment in movies by 2 great actors. That scene never gets old and will live on forever
I love Tombstone ! Takes me away to another place and time when I watch this movie ! Thanks Hollywood !😁👍
Navy seals, terminator, abyss, tombstone, aliens, he's a bonafide legend.
My favorite scene in Tombstone!
"Look darlin'. Johnny Ringo. The deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill they say."
Thanks for putting this together. Love Tombstone. Michael Biehn is awesome.
LOVED HIM PLAYING JONNY RINGO/SAD THE WAY THE FOUND THE REAL J.R./DONT BELIEVE HE KILLED HIMSELF HE WAS AMBUSHED FOR SURE!
It’s actually called, a pistol dance,,not easy to do either, love watching Michael, Johnny Ringo, do this part in the movie ❤,
Walking my way home from work, I get to the corner of my road, I’d always get my keys out and twirl the key loop I have attached, around and around, with a final flick to get the actual key to my fingers to stick it into the lock once I reach my door...
Best western I have ever seen and I am 70 years old. All of you did a great job. Thanks for a great western.
RIP Bill Paxton
I grew up watching the movies him and Biehn were in (Terminator, Aliens,Navy Seals and Tombstone etc)...I felt sad when I found out Bill had died and I'd be equally sad when Michael dies
Just watched the scene. Wow! Just wow! The acting chops between these legendary actors. Pure raw talent
Can't watch the movie or this scene ever enough ;)
Michael, you made that scene a legend!!!
Look darlin, Johnny Ringo
I love that in this scene Doc makes Johnny out to be a fool.
"Why, Johnny Ringo.....you look like somebody just, walked over your grave"
I didn't care for Tombstone but I did like that scene. When Val Kilmer gets to twirling the cup and showing just what a fool thing twirling a pistol is, that was priceless.
