  • The Elder Scrolls Online was initially released on PC in 2014 and had a rocky launch to say the least, one year later I decided to check out TESO as someone that's never played Oblivion or Skyrim as the game's now a buy to play MMORPG, I condense 9 hours worth of gameplay down into 22 minutes to help you decide if It's worth playing as a potential alternative to World of Warcraft.

      TheLazyPeon Using a Restoration Staff, yes. Templars are the best healers, precise builds of nightblade are good too, but magicka build of any class can be effective with Resto Staves.

      +Boomabanga my initial disapointment with how its not a "skyrim Multiplayer" was big but honestly you need a bit of MMO to make an MMO work that being said my Main deterrent was the monthly subscription which a lot of ES players didn't like

    • @masterace1071
      @masterace1071 8 років тому

      +Boomabanga because the majority of these people are expecting a skyrim 2.0 with multiplayer which it isn' this is an mmorph not a single player elder scrolls game , if you don't expect it to be like skyrim it is by far one of the best mmorpg if not the best at the moment

    It has bad reputation because of the fact that all the elder scrolls fans were expecting it to be like another elder scrolls game, where it is more like an MMO. So all the Elderscrolls fans were disappointed, but the people just looking for an MMO were happy.

      ***** dungeons and raids for PvE . the dungeons are just scaled up Veteran rank dungeons but there is a daily quest for dungeons that you can do a dungoen on for example gold rating and then you have to do mulitple extra things to succeed in it and get better rewards . Raids are pretty amazing though and pretty rough .

    • @diamondsofsix
      @diamondsofsix 9 років тому

      Trey303 I love both mmos and the elder scrolls and felt disappointed on both accounts. But then the launch was rather bad... might be worth picking up again now that is b2p and give it another go.

    • @Ethindil
      @Ethindil 9 років тому

      Trey303 The issue was not really the game itself. it was gorgeous. But the levelling. the main questline was ingenious. it was gorgeous. but the endgame was shitty. You were lvl 50 (finally!) and then you needed to be VR 10 to do anything useful (which was shit, since all cyrodiil Mats were useless, and levelling never ended).
      And not being able to target just made it one huge AoE fest. Healing was a pain in the ass, since you'd just mash your buttons and there was no real "skill" to it.
      And the soft/hard cap forced you to make a hybrid class to be viable, which was really sad in my opinion. I mean, I love the possibility to be an off-healer and a dps/tank, but you should be able to be a pure melee dps or pure mage as well.

    • @Brunnen_Gee
      @Brunnen_Gee 8 років тому +18

      FYI I do tons and tons of research on any game I'm interested in. An absurd amount really. Watching videos and reading forums doesn't give you firsthand experience though, and a lot of the time how a game feels (how it runs on your pc, how the controls feel, stuff like that), plays a huge part in determining if one wants to purchase said game. It's just hard to dump that much money into a game without being able to try it first, especially from a genera that usually has some sort of trial after the game has been out for this long. I did end up buying it last week and have been playing it since. I like it so much I subscribed my second day playing. I'm glad I took the chance on it.

      Slapnutts McGee I have yet to see a review from any hater that doesn't parrot the negatives stated in the beta review... All the hatred (outside the bugs, most of which weren't game breakers until ESO went live... i.e... they didn't materialize until ESO was released on the mega-servers and played on a global scale...) stems from reviewers needing to LTP... Dated MMO play causes mis-timed combat... Mis-timed combat causes the cancellation of attacks... Cancellation of attacks causes the "unresponsive" moniker to be bandied about... Reviewers who bring a stale, outdated, MMO-centric playstyle to today's ESO will find it boring... Because Nirn is too *massive* to play one way. Get savvy and change-up your game...

  • @Alwayz114
    @Alwayz114 9 років тому +72

    My favorite part about ESO is that it captures RP better than any other game I can think of at this time. True, good RP is not where you go to /rp chat and force yourself to talk differently, it's where the game itself brings you so deep into the world that you ARE role playing, without even meaning to. Since there is no global auction house in ESO and everything is facilitated through trade, there is a massive economy that many spend their time following and tracking. The PvP is so expansive and strategic that people will talk about that for hours. There's just so much to do that truly brings you into the world, and it's quite a beautiful feeling

    • @Alwayz114
      @Alwayz114 9 років тому +2

      Also, for those who don't know, the crafting skills in ESO are very expansive, and you actually have to use Skill Points you would otherwise use on Offensive/Defensive skills to level your crafting. That means unless you forgo ALL PvP/PvE abilities, you cannot be a master crafter (although most people just level an Alt then transfer all the skill points)

    • @Alwayz114
      @Alwayz114 9 років тому +2

      Natural Inclination Or you just completely misunderstood what I said and ran with it. I meant you level an alt with offensive abilities to get through questing content, then transfer all of their points to THEIR crafting abilities (This means they won't be able to do End Game Content since they aren't fully specced for PvE or PvP. It's a tradeoff). Gotta love how it takes 1 misunderstood sentence for you to make such accusations

      +alwayzbored114 that is not true you can have all the offensive and defensive skills you need and still master some crafting trees because you don't need all of them just focus on the ones you need and same goes with your offensive and defensive skills you don't need all of them when you reach end game you can respect and pick the skills you want and the ones you know you will have to use and you will have plenty of skills point left for your crafting passives unless you really want to go all out with all the crafting trees and passives maxed out

    @DVSPress 9 років тому +35

    I feel like ESO got a lot of negative press at launch because it was buggy and because it was not a "multiplayer skyrim." It was an MMO, with lots of the things that are common with MMOs. That being said, I think it is an excellent game, and as close to and Elder Scrolls experience as you are likely to have in an MMO, and it still has all of the awesome things that go with the MMO genre as well. As of July 2015, its a very polished, content-rich, and lore-rich game that will please most MMO players. It's been a long time since I've wanted to play an MMO for the enjoyment of playing it, rather than feeling like I'm trying to power up to max level/gear to do something else in the game.

    • @rzehooj
      @rzehooj 9 років тому +3

      David Stewart It sucked not because people wanted "multiplayer skyrim" but because game was like "not trully a mmo, yet not a singleplayer game". Quest were dull like in common/weak mmo but game was still focused on them like in singleplayer. Some elements of game were made so bad that they were forcing you to play more like singleplayer game (you had to avoid people if you wanted to make some progress). Party system was insanely not friendly making you and your friends to regret making a party. You had to wait for other to finish the quest as everyone had to make it alone (fuck that you are in party). Loot distribution was a joke too.
      Back then ESO was like compilation of bad singleplayer game with bad mmo (dunno how it's now as i didn't touched it again after my first month of subscription).

    • @DVSPress
      @DVSPress 9 років тому

      Fair enough. I think they've fixed a lot of those early problems. They added all sorts of thieving options in addition to making the game a lot more playable. I don't think the quests I've done lately are dull or weak, but my point of comparison is other MMOs - they are very much closer to the vein of MMO quests than what you would get in a single player game, but I also think they have ejected some of the bad bits of MMOs as well (like "get 12 rat tails" are less common). That being said, I don't think the quest content of Skyrim or any of the single player Elder Scrolls games is necessarily that good either. The best thing about to me about an Elder Scrolls game is the environment and the lore. Both are present in ESO, but there isn't the freedom of movement and total player-driven exploration of the single player titles. You level through zones like a traditional MMO. I don't really mind that, but others might. Cheers!

    As a long time player, this video really made me feel warm and nostalgic. I miss the game being this way. Leveled PvE zones let you have a fun time with more difficult enemies, Cyrodiil didn't lag to high hell, amd your reactions to everything were just so pure. This was a quality video. Glad I watched it.

    • @jakobfel2
      @jakobfel2 2 роки тому

      Massively late reply but frankly, the only thing I miss about the game at this point was the fact that you didn't have to buy a bunch of DLCs and expansions to feel like the world was complete lol. One Tamriel turned ESO into a true TES experience, IMO. The leveled zones made it feel more like just another generic MMO, especially when this series has always been about being able to go anywhere and do anything you feel like doing.

    See this is what annoys me about WoW players. (Not you LazyPeon) most will bash on new MMO's and immediately dismiss them as trash, when I'm almost certain that majority of them never even play these other MMO's. WoW isn't some super unique amazing MMO which is what annoys me when WoW players always tend to mention things like, "Oh! All other MMO's suck compared to WoW, they're just WoW clones!" I don't think many MMO's that come out these days are anything like WoW which is a great thing. I play multiple MMO's and know this, but sadly most WoW players still think WoW is some super unique innovative game.

    • @Toini01
      @Toini01 9 років тому +13

      I agree a bit, but WoW has something special that no other game has: more than 10 years of intense development making this game one of the most efficient, complete, detailed out of al of them. What I find disappointing whenever I try a new MMO is the fact that no MMO established the world as well as WoW did. It's just such a full and detailed game now!

    • @MichRoyal
      @MichRoyal 9 років тому +28

      Toini01 I'd have to disagree sadly. I honestly think all the years of expansions have actually worked "against" WoW. For example, new players jump into WoW now, for their introduction as Horde, due to no updates since Cataclysm, they're told that Garrosh is Warchief when he isn't. New players are also expected to trek through previous expansions where their told at 60-70, Illidan must be stopped when he's already dead. Then they immediately go from 70-80 and are told the Lich King must be stopped when he's already dead. Then 80-85 Deathwing must be stopped when he's already dead. 85-90, assist with the war when the war is already over. Then 90-100 doesn't even make sense because the prelude into the expansion is only available in a book. New players aren't even properly told who the Iron Horde is or how they got there besides, "Alternate Dimension". Honestly I think the storyline of WoW has become such a convulsed mess in game that other MMO's have the advantage since they can make their leveling experience cohesive and make actual sense unlike WoW's current storyline for players.
      WoW does have polish however and I think for a more traditional MMO it does shine gameplay wise. But it's awfully lacking now in customization especially in character creation compared to other MMO's, and with the homogenization of most classes and talents I think it only suffers from current development decisions sadly, despite the polish.

      Mich Royal that is true 100% , I use to play WoW like creasy , but I was never the type of player that always consider WoW to be the almighty mmo of all, the only reason why I kept coming back to it was because it was so eazy to do anything in it , now I don't play the game anymore , it became extremely ez , and extremely boring , with really bad updates that all it focus is in nerfing classes , and buff others for the season , is stupid . So yea at this point im playing ESO , and ff14 wish both games are great and fun to play , and focus more on pve with a strong pvp aspect ( not ff14 so much pvp is just there but not really a good pvp), but yea there are tons of other good mmos out there , all you need to do is try them .

    Glad to see you liked TES:O, a word of advice is don't fall like I did in the trap of grinding monsters all day to level up a bit faster than if you were questing and when a logo is Black on the map: It means there are quests left to do around that area. For mini Dungeons, if the logo isn't filled white it means you didn't kill the Mini boss of that dungeon yet which VERY often drop good stuff. Grinding will wear you down, I did it this way with a friend and I quitted after I got to the Veteran levels. I then did another character, played the way it was meant to be by questing and focusing on filling all the logos white while hunting Skyshard, it was a lot of fun. The dialogues are beautiful going along well with great voice acting. On that, I wish you tons of fun and welcome in the world of TES:O!

    The Prophet is voiced by the guy who plays Dumbledore so you're correct in guessing that (nice job). Also, your class isn't limited to playing a specific role. For example, Sorcerers can actually make very effective tanks. Each weapon has its own skill tree and the only thing that changes is your class skills or racial passives. There are pretty much endless possibilities with class customisation which gives plenty of freedom to design your character the way you want it. Nothing is stopping you from having a badass battlemage in heavy armour that fires off spells and gets in close combat with his swords.

    The good thing about ESO is you don't actually to get class locked for skills. Any class can wield any weapon and each weapon type has its own skill tree, also there are in game factions to join that also have their own skill trees. I made a tank Dragonknight that double specced as a healer. You can legit play anyway you want to regardless of class.

      @natefan8700 8 років тому +5

      +Roronoa Zoro lmao how so ? eso has real time action, where dodging and animation cancels is important in pvp or pve, unlike ff14 you just press a button and watch the your character does the animtion, its very boring, the only class that let u move and attack is archer in ff14 and that shit is boring af too. and yeah you can say ff14 let u be any class but every class in ff14 plays the same with basically the same rotation. in eso , even if character is the same class , builds will be completely different depending on what u want to do, that means if you're a templar ;a class that most ppl will assume its for healing, you can make templar do dps, heal or tank. oh yeah , did i mention in eso in any class you can use any weapon as well? that mean you want to be a battle tank mage , go right ahead! you want to be a sneaky theif but at the sametime tanky? go right ahead ! and even if you fuck up your build, you can easily go to a shrine in a town and just redo your points ! however in ff14, if youre a monk all u can do is dps and that's it , every monk will be the same , you really have no freedom. eso also have pvp like legit pvp and large scale battles where you invade or defend forts and keeps, and eso pve content is so much more realistic than ff14 to the point where its like a single person RPG and everything is voice acted, not the typical go kill 10 pigs types of quest which you will constantly get through out leveling up in ff14. in eso , its a personal story, when you go to a town, the town might be invaded by vampires and you need to save a person but you might have to sacrifice someone else, and those decisions are up to you , which mean when you get to max level, each ppl might have a complete total experience but for ff14 you will all basically have to do the same shit over and over again. and the last thing that's amazing about eso is the power gap, like i know for sure in ff14 if you are higher level or with better gear there's no way a lower level will be able to beat you, not cuz you have better mechanics, its cuz of the power gap of the items in the game. but in eso, when you go to a pvp zone you will be battle balanced, that means even if you are lv 35 you can kill a lv 50 player if you have mechanics and know how to animation cancel and dodge. but there is no mechanices in games like ff14 or wow cuz you just fucking press the same rotation and you just sit there, like its boring af, especially when youre just leveling a new character you literally will spam the same few moves over and over and over again. also in eso there's other things you can do, like thief guilds where you can run heist and rob NPC with your friends if you don't feel like pvp or pve. i played both eso and ff14 and ff14 is fking boring, like just go to a town in eso and go to a town in ff14 u will see the difference of effort from the dev

      +Jay tom And then The Witcher 3 came out, and it felt 10 years ahead of Skyrim at bare minimum..No mods can fix the terrible combat, or the shameful story writing, there are just too many things wrong with the base game. I was hoping they'd improve after Oblivion (which was a step back from Morowind), but somehow they managed to fuck up so many things with Skyrim.
      Sorry but Skyrim was nothing special, it's the most dumbed down TES/RPG version I've ever played in my life. Morrowind, Oblivion and now ESO too, are the only titles worthy of the TES name. If anything, they at least all share a great story writing.

      +Beastmode627 I totally agree with you, you can make skyrim have amazing textures and lighting but the stuff that matters is still clunky as hell. Witcher 3 besides looking so much better has an amazing physics component that makes everything in the game move and sway and it looks very immersive and realistic.

    • @hermitjayt

      Jay tom playing a premade character is much more entertaining and immersive because they have connections to other characters they actually talk in the game, and they have a rich history from previous games. while the skyrim character is just another blank mute npc who has 0 depth. if you want to play a game where you feel things then premade characters are the only way. If you want just a blank avatar then customization is the way.

    Played the beta for this game and really enjoyed it even though it was NOT was it was marketed as (Skyrim multiplayer).
    The only reason I haven't looked into it afterwards was because of paid subscription which I hate in any game because it makes me feel like I have to get my money's worth every month. Glad its changed and this video was really informative, I think I'll be buying it soon :)

      Philippe It was in no way shape or form marketed as Skyrim Multiplay... I have no idea where you got this idea from. But I'm glad to hear you consider buying it, and you should! It's phenomenal now. AD!

      Harbinger Well initially everyone thought it would be just that. But as more and more gameplay was shown people got off the hype train because it looked like a generic mmorpg with an elder scrolls theme. However, I don't mind, as long as you don't have me collecting 70+ bear skins at level 30 like asian mmorpgs

    Very pleased to see an MMO player not bash TESO for once, I too enjoy it very much. A tip is to read up on the lore to get a better understanding and appreciation of the game and story, which in turn makes it much more rewarding for me when I play.

      Personally GW2. It's fun to level as they made levelling a part of the game, not just a wall to climb before endgame. The community play for fun and if you find a guild there will definitely be people to play with and do random stuff. PvP is really balanced. Only con is lack of raiding and the dungeons feel slightly weird due to no trinity.

    Glad to see you enjoy it alot. I've had it since earlier release and am only level 35, mostly because I play off an on between many other games I play and I also do every bit of content in the zones. All the side quest and stuff. Like that first zone you took a straight route through. You skipped about 60-75% of the content in that zone. :p Alot of the skyrim and oblivion fan boys hate alot on this game, it sorta annoys me that they do. Once again, glad to see you enjoy it.

    Word of advice going into ESO - It's definitely a game you'll either love or hate. I -love- this game almost as much as WoW, but I have friends that hate this game, which is perfectly fine. There isn't a set quest progression like you'd think from an MMO. In order to level correctly, you MUST explore. It's a staple of the Elder Scrolls series and ESO is no different. If you don't explore EVERYTHING, you'll find yourself underleveled faster than a swarm of murlocks destroyed a noob back in Vanilla.

    You mention Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) voices one main character--but may not have noticed the crazy old man with the tin pot on his head is voiced by John Cleese (Nearly-Headless-Nick, also from Harry Potter films). There are many other top-tier actors voicing roles in ESO. It's really refreshing.

    So good to see someone enjoying the game. I have played Morrowind, oblivion, skyrim and even dabbled with daggerfall and arena... I drug my feet on this one due to bad reviews. I didn't buy it until it was on sale for 19$ for the xbox and free to play. ( I am not normally a console guy ) I didn't expect much really.Boy was I wrong. Fantastic game. I can see myself playing this at server shut down and still not seeing every single piece of content.

    if you ever try it out again try out the thieving aspect, its an entirely different feel where you are watching out for witnesses and guards and trying to steal as much as possible to make lots of gold, then if your get caught stealing/killing escaping with your life and getting that bounty off your head. Its probably my favorite part of the game.

    I really like how you do these, you play it and give it a fair chance and give your opinions you don't really bash the game and then you ask our opinion. I also would like to add that you picked the best faction to start out with, I tried the other two and couldn't get into it, I think the quests etc are a lot more fun with the faction you picked.

    When I first started playing this game in April of 2014, I was sort of oblivious, I was so especially psyched about it's launch that I didn't notice the original bugs (that have been since fixed, mostly).
    As he said in the video at the review portion, this game is epicly immersive and I recommend it to anyone with a scrap of self worth and some extra change. 20:19 is where his review begins and I agree with... Every. Single. Word.
