PS5 DualSense Controllers Are Already Breaking?

  • The PS5 has been out for a little over a month now and the most impressive parts of the experience certainly come from the DualSense controller. However now it looks like more and more cases are popping up online of the controller's adaptive triggers having issues and even snapping when being used. What's causing this problem and can Sony fix it over time?

      It's just going to happen again.
      Asking players to fight the trigger, is bound to have people break them. This is why it was such a badddd idea. And these controllers are so expensive. 70 bucks a pop. And you HAVE to buy those for ps5 games. Can't use a cheaper ps4 controller or something.

    My r2 trigger became loose like many others were experiencing and I was able to fix it. The spring actually broke and I replaced it. Thought about making a youtube video on it since no one really has one out on how to fix it.

      Btw you don’t need to desolder it from the board. But I will agree it is a lot of steps just to get into the springs. Also very interesting thing I noticed is the ps5’s spring is smaller and not as strong while being shaped different from the ps4’s springs but as long as you bend the PS4 spring it’ll work for ps5.

      All you need to fix it is a wedge tool to open up the DualSense, a Phillips screwdriver #00, a spare PS4 controller or PS4 trigger springs on Amazon. The project will take around 35-45 min to fix.

      @DragonHeart53 3 роки тому +30

      exactly, I only thought that the triggers had the rumble feedback feature like what Xbox one controllers had, But seeing this adaptive resistance feature just feels like it's asking for the springs to break. cause it looks like it's over stressing the springs beyond where the triggers normally compress the springs. And repeatedly stress them past that point is absolutely going to break the springs.

    From my experience I’ve noticed over the years that triggers with trigger stops like the scuf can break, not because of bad design but more due to user pressing way too hard. The trigger goes down less than half the normal travel & engages with mere millimeters of travel. If you’re pressing down excessively or hard a lot then 1 of 2 things typically happens. You either break the nub off the trigger stop which can be easily replaced.. or you break the plastic C shape hinges that lock on the pivot bar inside, the plastic C hinges break & then your trigger doesn’t compress or decompress correctly because the leverage point is broken or the entire trigger falls off because both hinges break. I’m assuming something similar may be happening in the new PlayStation controller because 1 it’s all plastic C hinges pivoting on a small metal bar.. the adaptive trigger is pushing back to creating resistance or pressure acting essentially like a “trigger stop” would. Maybe users are pressing the trigger too hard as it’s pushing back.. the plastic hinge cracks or breaks.. which could also cause the spring to unseat. That’s my guess, the hinge system can’t handle the pressure at the pivot point.

    Some times testing isn't accurate to irl situations, especially when it's automated by a robot, this is why design flaws can come up after a product comes out. The Joycons testing probably didn't test for the idea that a lot of modern games have you run by pushing in the sticks, which added extra friction to the sensors and caused them to tear down faster. Of course that on top of the fact it naturally sands away do to the design flaw.

    Slight correction: You do not need to solder or desolder a single thing to get to the trigger spring. undo the 4 screws of the trigger module, and there is a metal pin by the base of the trigger you can remove. I’ve personally had no issues so far, but I did think of this as a problem. Hopefully Sony upgrades them in the future, maybe like they did with the refreshed DS4s included with the Slim and Pro models.

    • @Sinn0100
      @Sinn0100 3 роки тому +1

      There's no way we are going to see a slim version of either console (Series X or PS5) for a very long time. They have to be the size they are as cooling them in smaller cases would be very problematic indeed. It's a miracle they run as cold and quiet as they do now (both run really cool and whisper quite). Maybe...if they moved the power supplies externally like the Xbox 360 but I just don't see it.
      Further, Sony isn't going to do a full redesign of the controller either. Unlike the Sixaxes controller (hated) the Dual Sense is a huge hit that feels infinitely better than any Dual Shock line of controller. Given how truly advanced the Dual Sense controller is (feature heavy) they would need to do a serious redesign of the Dual Shock for it too work...it's far easier to add heavier duty springs in the triggers and stronger parts for the sticks than making a brand new controller. This is the first time Sony has really given Microsoft a run for their money in the controller department. While I still prefer the Series X controller the Dual Sense is a very, very close second.
      Addendum-
      We were (fiancee and I) very fortunate to be able to snag both the Xbox Series X and PS5 *physical. While the new consoles are absolutely huge in stature they are works of art and design. I shudder too think what would happen should Sony or Microsoft rush slim models out before the chipsets can be shrunk.

      @@Sinn0100 I don't think they'll release a slim version but I 100% think they are more than capable of releasing a pro version but I do think they'll try to re work the controller or add better or more heavy duty parts and put them into their new generation of controllers

      The DS4 triggers were so bad I've never actually had to buy a new controller since I learned how to fix them. The plastic posts were so weak in the original models. When I took one apart for the first time I was shocked at how weak they were. The triggers would break the first time anyone would drop the controller. The 2nd generation was vastly improved. I'm sure the same will go for the Dualsense.

    • @Sinn0100
      @Sinn0100 3 роки тому +1

      @@johnnyissa7890
      I just don't see any of that happening for at least two years. These new machines are very different beasts that the base 8th generation consoles. The base 8th generation consoles were very weak out of the gates and the mid generation upgrades became almost a requirement (we got them day 1). Both Microsoft and Sony made money right out of the gate on the Xbox One and PS4...that's not the case with these new machines. The PS5 *physical costs something like $950.00 per machine and the Series X...I think is hitting the 1K mark.
      Basically we're back to the way consoles used to be made. Essentially the console manufacturers produce a very powerful machine at a loss and make the money back through licensing fees and games. The cost to design the cooling systems for both had to be astronomical. While I would buy pro models of both on day 1 it's going to be awhile.
