Right? With my PS4 Slim, I could wrap it in a hoodie and chuck it in my backpack, which was really nice for traveling, which I do alot of. It fit perfectly. Can't do that with the 5. Guess Sony forgot people take their consoles to friends houses and stuff.
It was a smart decision and GAMBLE/RISK for Sony to choose this design. Despite our distaste, Sony made the correct choice in embracing a bold new innovative look for the PS5.
The biggest advantage of disc version is the ability to buy second hand games for cheap! Digital prices too high and their deals aren't as good as steam

In the UK the digital PS5 Slim is the same as the original digital PS5 (~380 quid). It is also ~90 quid cheaper than the disc drive version. Not sure why it is such a rip off in other countries though.
this seems to be a trend for sony, they have an amazing console like the ps2, and the ps3 kinda comes out a bit sketchy, so they learn from it, and ps4 is a stellar smash hit, ps5 comes out, and they feel they don't have to try hard enough. my question is, when will sony fans get tired of sony treating them like sub par gamers.

I'm sure Sony has a plan. Since it wasn't advertised I'm guessing it was a very last minute decision to put out a slightly smaller ps5 for those of us waiting for the 5slim. I'm quite happy with my 4pro and a large backlog of games to keep me busy until a true 5slim or 5pro come out. Whichever!
@@cappy699He meant just go with the fat PS5 most likely. Because yeah, no reason to buy any slim console really if you own the original, except the 360 due to reliability issues
This entire situation is so bizarre. I think it's indicative of the obvious issues going on internally at Sony and PlayStation. I think management is a mess there and it's really sad to see. Hopefully it improves.
I think the whole thing is that perhaps Sony is going more towards favoring physical media where Microsoft seems to really be focusing on their Gamepass service. It seems like the digital versus physical pricing is a deliberate choice to make the physical media more appealing than digital. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Sony own the patent for Blu Ray discs? Or at least they were instrumental in pushing Blu Rays to the general public via the PS3. To me it makes sense that they have more of a financial incentive to push physical media because they are getting a cut from the disc drives and the actual discs themselves. So they aren’t feeling as much of a push to go digital as Microsoft may be. Also let’s not forget that part of what put Sony over Microsoft the past couple generations is Microsoft’s push to go all digital. Sony absolutely killed Microsoft at the PS4 reveal simply by saying “Yes, our console will have physical discs still”. As a collector myself, I’m 100% in favor of keeping physical media around and having all digital as an option for those who want it. We’ve all seen how (Sony included) media is being removed from people who have paid for it due to licensing expirations and whatnot. As for people who say the slim is a “scam” or to address the point of the slim being a “stealth” release. I wouldn’t expect Sony to do a big marketing campaign for what is just a model refresh and not an actual “Pro” model release. It just doesn’t make financial sense because then you’d have people complaining that it’s not an upgrade after seeing all of the advertising around it. (Even though it comes with more storage than the original model out of the box) I think it’s a bit silly to call it a scam. I’m one of the people who deliberately waited for a “slim” model because I didn’t like the size of the PS5. I’ve got 7 or 8 game consoles on my home entertainment center. I didn’t want to sacrifice a ton of space for one single console. I’ve since bought a slim and I personally like the split plate design (though I would’ve highly preferred matte plates instead of gloss). The console is significantly smaller than the original even if it’s still pretty bulky compared to the other consoles in my living room. Now I get to enjoy all my Ps5 and PS4 stuff on one console which is nice. Overall I think it’s a great console and a good deal for people like me who held off. Getting the physical version, with Spiderman 2 for free and also getting some of my PS4 versions of my games upgraded to the Ps5 version for free is ALOT of value for me since I never upgraded to a PS4 pro. God of War looks REALLY good on the PS5 and it runs great too. Obviously if you’ve got the OG model there isn’t really much in the slim model that provides value. (Unless you REALLY care about the space the original takes up). So it’s a bit silly for people to say Sony is money grabbing with the refresh of the console, especially seeing as they’ve done it with literally every single console generation they’ve put out. It’s pretty much expected that they’ll do a console refresh at some point. Though I’m a bit skeptical about the possibility of a “Pro” model given that the move to 4k as standard has essentially already happened at this point where as the PS4 was the “middle man” of the swap over. That obviously necessitated a pro model mid console generation. But we shall see if we do get a pro model I’m happy with my purchase and it looks great on my home entertainment center alongside all of my other consoles.
I already have a PS5 console myself too, but the PS5 that I have though is the original model and it's also the one with the built-in disc drive for playing physical games on the discs which I personally still prefer.
The reason has nothing to do with digital vs disc version but more likely 2 consoles with 2 different fan models (Nidec VS NMB or Foxconn) + margin of error.
The consoles bundled with games are a limited (while supplies last) holiday release. These have been very common in the past. I do think they should have included a "Digital Download" for a new game with the digital version to match the disc bundle. That would have been cheap for them to do so as well.
Why Would you buy a Stand when it's all over the Internet that you need to keep it Horizontal for the Liquid Metal running to one side causing it to Fail
Its still an issue, since the only thing stopping liquid metal from spilling into your ps5 is a sponge...which it will inevitably fail, just leave it horizontally
That’s Fake news it’s perfectly fine leaving it in vertical position plus it’s marketed that way it’s not an issue unless you had taken it apart and didn’t do a good job putting it back together
I think it's definitely a big issue as liquid metal is literal liquid so it's not gonna stay spread perfectly across the IHS if you're keeping it vertical or if you shake the console or drop it. I think over a few more years this will become a bigger issue and we'll see a lot of people that use the vertical orientation will start to notice their consoles overheating from liquid moving or spillage.
Think of Sony Pricing the PS5-Slim Digital the way it is, is the same as Goku tossing Cell a Senzu Bean in Dragon Ball Z. If the PS5-Sllim Digital was $399.99, it would've made the XBOX Series-S 1TB pointless. This way Sony is giving XBOX a chance to compete in the market, because if it was between a $349.99 1TB XBOX Series-S and $50 more for a $399.99 PS5-Slim Digital would make the PS5 a No-Brainer. Sony knew that if they released a $399.99 PS5-Slim Digital, they would've dominated the market. So by bumping the PS5-Slim Digital up to $450, and Increasing the price of Playstation Plus, and lack of quality 1st party software is just Sony looking to give XBOX a chance to compete.
I don't even understand why people prefer digital only. I bought Cyberpunk 2077 a few months ago, brand new, for 7 bucks on Amazon. Games are so much cheaper when you don't buy them from Sony. But whatever, I guess I can understand that people will happily pay more for convenience. But at the end, yea, this makes no sense at all with how they are pricing these. I can't even begin to understand that.
Cause those people you referred are simply different and the minority. Their Use case is different too. That’s like saying why our classmate or cousin like to be quiet for hours during gatherings while we don’t? That how life partly works. My use case: I was gonna get the OG digital edition mainly for the price, having this as a passive hobby, and don’t care for physical disc drive but saw Target had the OG PS5 disc edition for lesser $ so I’m getting that. I only play 1-3 games per year, under 6 hours of gaming session per month anyways.
Getting the disc drive separately being more expensive doesn't surprise me. Just look at any console bundled with a new game. It's usually slightly cheaper than getting a console and the game separately. What I'm bummed about is that none of them are cheaper than the standard fat version. I get that the guts of this thing is probably not much cheaper to produce, if at all, but releasing a revised model, that's visually very different and it actually costing more than the regular one (that's being discontinued) won't instill much confidence in the consumer.
The digital ps5 makes alot of sense. If you get the disk drive version and your disk drive breaks, your system will be obsolete until you get the disk drive replaced. Even the digital games won't work with a broken disk drive BUT if you have the " NO DISK DRIVE" you'll never have to worry about the disk drive breaking. Makes complete sense.
I smell planned obsolescence in the making. Drives failing after X amount of hours. No other console or variation is pushing this agenda other than PS5 slim.
I would consider getting the digital ps5 slim, it would be a nice if it was 450$ (the original price of the playstation which Sony has offered) The fact that the PS5 slim costs over 650$ in my country is insane Or wait another year for PS5 slim price drop which i don't have a patient im done waiting for 3 years Yes hopefully I'll get the regular ps5 next month, I have saved the half of the money and im waiting for my dad to help me to buy it
If the psn store has like 400 games for $18 a month, if you buy one $70 game plus tax, then if you sell it you’ll still loose like $50 at least, so how does it makes sense unless you have a bunch of games already on disc that you own like ps4 ones
Intentional or unintentional - and I have to assume with a multi million dollar corporation everything is intended - I'm happy that they're incentivising people to stay disc based. When you look at things like Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition with the DLC even releasing on disc, what we're potentially seeing here is Sony pivoting to a strategy that differentiates from Microsoft by claiming to be the home of disc based gaming. Is that too far fetched?
Honestly that’s what I’m hoping. We know the new Series X is going to be digital only. Remember in E3 2013 when Sony did that “how to lend a video game or a friend” thing to laugh at Microsoft? I’m hoping for a moment in 2028 (I guess at whatever E3 equivalent exists by that time) where they do a video like “how to insert a disc into your PS6”. In the end I’m really not sure if this would happen, because it’s in Sony’s best interests to go all digital as well, but I can dream lol. At least Switch 2 will probably be backwards compatible and Nintendo likely won’t even consider going all digital until Switch 3 or whatever
i bought the digital slim cuz one of my friends had a membership that gave him $100 off so I don't regret my purchase. Its coming tomorrow but the thumbnail of this vid scared me shitless
It’s the disc version that looks like the knock off to me, it still looks like it was designed as a digital console first, as the disc version sacrifices symmetry. Idk how you gone say the digital looks like the knock off.
Imo i totally disagree, the longer the induatry givea us an option for physical the better. Once the industry fully goes digital im out, either will go retrogaming or leave altogether, a full digital industry will take so much choice out of the equation for consumers, and possibly coukd bring about new very important concerns regarding server life and access to games you own indefinitely.

Sony should of put the disc drive on top instead of the bottom. Then the bottom would be shaped the same on both digital, and disc consoles like previous Playstations. I wish Sony would change the entire shape of the PS5 like they did the PS3 launch edition, and slim.
i like it. they should just make a disc drive less bulky. i mean if you think of ps4 slim and how small it is I think its possible, unless sony doesnt really care anyway.
The ps4s drive was in the middle of the console. It’s Sonys fault for making the ps5 design so ridiculous. They would need to do a complete redesign like with the ps3 super slim to have a form factor competitive with Xbox
I think ps5 slim disc version us 500 only during blackfriday. In Europe disc version is 550 euros without any games but where as digital is 450. Which makes digital version better deal.
My guess is Sony is probably trying to sell through a good chunk of their current physical copies before making the price of the digital lower so that they don’t take as much of a loss on the new physical copy games currently out in circulation still or prepping to be. As they slow down on physical game production it’d be more ideal for them to lower the price of the digital console tho.
Really strange move with these revisions by Sony. In the past I was a bit envious of the "Slim" models when I was growing up. Sony made the PS2 slim and PS3 slim way sleeker and better in terms of size and kept the same functionality. The fact the stand is way worse and the Digital version is very expensive despite the cost-cutting measures is weird to me. This is the first time I'm happy that I got a "Fat" PS5 because the stand is higher quality and it's more stable as a result sitting in my TV stand.
I'm glad the digital dont make sense and less people buy them. I couldn't imagine walking inside of Walmart or GameStop and there's not any physical games anymore. Just a bunch of digital cards behind glass 😢
Not a fan of this newer PS5. Got my digital edition back in February 2021 no regrets at all. This is a ripoff with the newer digital edition for $50 more? And also a vertical stand for $30 extra not worth it to me. I still have my old stand and proud of it. Keep up the great work with your console videos.

Digital games are business investment. Games getting sold secondhand for $20-$30 will be a thing of the past. This means that they can sell every game for initial MSRP for years to come
It is 550€ for the disc version in Belgium and 115€ for disc drive so, at least here, it’s okay to buy the discless at 450€ and buy the drive later if it is needed 🤷♂️
I think they made the digital more money because you don't have to go to the store or wait for your amazon package to arrive and then putting in the disc and having to repair the disc or buy new ones once the discs don't work or they get scratched
When they had the blog post about the new model, they had the information for both of the slim consoles on there, along with the info that you can buy the drive separately to add to the digital console if you decide you want physical games.
You do realize that the only thing any console, Xbox one, ps4, Xbox series X and ps5 etc only uses the disc as verification that you own the game all the game files are no different from the digital ones
Why would you even expect the horizontal stands to work with both models? Also, if you buy the digital model your not likely to be touching it all the time so stability isn’t really an issue.
Digital games cost more then the physical games. I’m not surprised that Sony would increase the price of the digital console but people will just buy the disc version and save some money so it makes no sense.
It can but it actually the other way around assuming one buy more physical copies than digital. Seems like a skill issue…
(Even though it comes with more storage than the original model out of the box)
I think it’s a bit silly to call it a scam.
But we shall see if we do get a pro model
I’m happy with my purchase and it looks great on my home entertainment center alongside all of my other consoles.
You don’t understand Sonys logic yet? They know their fanbase will pay for anything they put out, just like Nintendo does
He really bought a brand new console and questioned if the fan is working 😂💀
I already have a PS5 console myself too, but the PS5 that I have though is the original model and it's also the one with the built-in disc drive for playing physical games on the discs which I personally still prefer.
still love how they have the balls to market 8k on their boxes
The reason has nothing to do with digital vs disc version but more likely 2 consoles with 2 different fan models (Nidec VS NMB or Foxconn) + margin of error.
The consoles bundled with games are a limited (while supplies last) holiday release. These have been very common in the past.
I do think they should have included a "Digital Download" for a new game with the digital version to match the disc bundle. That would have been cheap for them to do so as well.
Im glad I recently got the (slightly) less ugly OG PS5 before they are replaced with the slims.
Why Would you buy a Stand when it's all over the Internet that you need to keep it Horizontal for the Liquid Metal running to one side causing it to Fail
because thats a myth n bs
6:50 so I've always heard people say it's bad to stand them vertically due to the liquid metal but don't know for sure. What do you think?
That was debunked ages ago
Its still an issue, since the only thing stopping liquid metal from spilling into your ps5 is a sponge...which it will inevitably fail, just leave it horizontally
THAT WAS FALSE IT WAS MADE UPPP 😅
That’s Fake news it’s perfectly fine leaving it in vertical position plus it’s marketed that way it’s not an issue unless you had taken it apart and didn’t do a good job putting it back together
I think it's definitely a big issue as liquid metal is literal liquid so it's not gonna stay spread perfectly across the IHS if you're keeping it vertical or if you shake the console or drop it. I think over a few more years this will become a bigger issue and we'll see a lot of people that use the vertical orientation will start to notice their consoles overheating from liquid moving or spillage.
I’ve read that it’s bad to have the ps5 in the vertical position. I’ve had my ps5 since 2021 and have had it on its side since day 1
That's been debunked
Tbh I though the new ps5 would be 300 to 350
30% smaller, 30% more expensive (I know it's not actually 30% more expensive)
That's What The Price Should've Been Not $500 😠😩😒
They tried making a console that looked as sleek and iconic as the 360 and they failed. Big time!
Love the DBZ analogy. It makes perfect sense now. 😂
You get more internal storage than the Original PS5 (1TB vs 825GB)...That is why they up the price
Actually 750GB Vs 650GB
Man, Sony's really hurting for money, huh?

I get that the guts of this thing is probably not much cheaper to produce, if at all,
but releasing a revised model, that's visually very different and it actually costing more than the
regular one (that's being discontinued) won't instill much confidence in the consumer.
They should have inlcuded a free game with the diskless verison. I know some people do not care for the disc. But the price is wrong for this console.

@@CristanioPeweyyy that's a great price! Can't be mad at that. Don't you think they could have priced it differently?

I will never buy a console without physical media… resale value is only one of the many reasons.

If you watch the video you’ll know why it seems like a knock off lol
The PlayStation slim won’t flop around because once you place it, you’re not gonna touch it only thing you touch is the controller.
What about when you plug in usb or something
Imo i totally disagree, the longer the induatry givea us an option for physical the better.
Once the industry fully goes digital im out, either will go retrogaming or leave altogether, a full digital industry will take so much choice out of the equation for consumers, and possibly coukd bring about new very important concerns regarding server life and access to games you own indefinitely.

I think they made the digital more money because you don't have to go to the store or wait for your amazon package to arrive and then putting in the disc and having to repair the disc or buy new ones once the discs don't work or they get scratched
Digital is 380 pounds here and disc version is 480 pounds like a 100 difference
When they had the blog post about the new model, they had the information for both of the slim consoles on there, along with the info that you can buy the drive separately to add to the digital console if you decide you want physical games.
Hopefully Sony isn't pushing Digital. Physical disks are way better.
You do realize that the only thing any console, Xbox one, ps4, Xbox series X and ps5 etc only uses the disc as verification that you own the game all the game files are no different from the digital ones
I like how thin it’s going to be in 2026😂
Why would you even expect the horizontal stands to work with both models?
Also, if you buy the digital model your not likely to be touching it all the time so stability isn’t really an issue.
Digital games cost more then the physical games. I’m not surprised that Sony would increase the price of the digital console but people will just buy the disc version and save some money so it makes no sense.
It can but it actually the other way around assuming one buy more physical copies than digital. The math doesn’t lie as new games keep coming out and physical gamers will always pick it up for cheap, let it collect dust over time and buy more physical copies: recycle repeat. You know what I find is funny is All Of You are complaining about the design. Look at Microsoft's next series x, it's the same box. All they did was remove the CD drive. And charge you the same price.
How? I see price drops for both of them
Don’t you also have to buy a new bottom cover if you want a disk drive on your digital?
It should come with the cover if you buy the disc drive (I would think). I don’t know 100% because I haven’t purchased one myself
@@jrob0021 Other video's show it comes a cover for the disc drive.
I have have a reason why it's moving when turning on the ps5 on the skiny one
It's because about 90% of the time we the gamers are going to turn on the console on controller
And you can always fine cheap disk drive later
