I had a few comments on the unboxing video telling me I was the only one talking about it and to hurry up and get the review out haha. I got really lucky with these releases that’s for sure.
I have plans to show the Zaku II F type being weathered on camera. If I can get a second Gundam EX I’ll just buy that and do a tutorial rather than the Zaku, just so I can get the Zaku review out sooner.
I'll be your 1000th subscriber! I am fairly new on gunpla, so far only have like 3 kits under my belt and will plan to expand that number! A very well done review
I figured I'd pick this up at some point, still not sure how I feel about the design, but I like to see different interpretations. However after seeing how you finished this, with the weathering and all. I'll get this sooner rather than later. You really brought it to life. It'll only be a few weeks after the kit reaches my country until water slide decals become available. Well done!
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad my build was able to inspire you to get it. It’s got a completely different feel compared to most other HGs we’ve gotten from Bandai. I’ll probably get a second one and some G rework or delpi decals in the future.
That is some really high praise! I appreciate the kind words a lot. I'll always do my best to deliver quality reviews as soon as I get my hands on these kits.
Dear Joe, looks like a good kit, your review seems quite accurate in every aspect...might consider it, my only concern is finding the time to touch it up, which you have done brilliantly...Keep it coming and God Bless!
I'm really enjoying your channel! Your reviews are very informative and in-depth. Great job, man! Definitely my new favorite Gunpla channel on the ole U Toob
Like Grampa Gundam & Jason Voorhees fused together. Love the slasher movie esque vibe to this guy in the series. Badass stuff. Earned a sub for sure! Thank you for helping me coming out of HG retirement 🙏
I just found your channel and I must say I am now a fan! Your review format reminds me of Type V3 but more detailed. I hope to see more from your channel, keep it up!
Thanks for the review Joe, my local Target stores are starting to stock Gunpla kits like the HG Seed Freedom kits when I previously thought they were phasing out Gunpla in general.
I was able to grab mine from Target earlier this week! My 1st in store gunpla purchase. Thank you for the tip! Picked up 3 Zaku II as well. RFV let's go!
I've been trying to find another Gundam EX to do a tutorial but my local targets are all sold out. I hope to have a weathering video soon! Might even do more advanced weathering in the video to match what happens in the series. ;)
My goodness, the detail on this singular HG puts some of the earlier Real Grades to shame. I've always been a fan of the more semi-realistic looks that some of the UC and Origin kits offered in conjuction to the other standalone alternate universe designs. RFV did a great job at showing just how menacing and downright scary a Gundam can be in the eyes of the opposition. You did an absolutely astounding job at recapturing that dirty detail through the paint work here man! I cannot wait to get one of these for myself, as well as the Zaku.
Thank you for the kind words and your detailed comment! They really nailed the scary war vibe with this Gundam in the show. This kit and RFV was a breath of fresh air after all the SEED kits we've gotten so far this year. I hope you're able to find these kits soon, they're a ton of fun to build and customize.
@JoesGunplaGarage Thanks m8! Now, Bandai really needs to make those Goufs! They looked so good in the show, and it would be a real shame if they didn't make an updated kit of them. I adore the Gouf custom from 008th MS team, and it would be so cool to get a new modern iteration with Bandai's current engineering.
I had a feeling that the series would turn it around for a lot of people, this guys definitely a menace throughout the show. I like it even more now too.
This kit really is perfect for practicing painting and mixing things up from the standard HG "polycap into kind of flat, boring armor parts". Coming from the Earthree Gundam to this, the amount of surface detail is astounding. I can completely forgive the articulation being limited in exchange for an HG that's sort of like a mini FM rather than the mini MG of modern RGs. All for an incredibly reasonable price.
A mini FM is a perfect way to describe this. I love your way of thinking on that. Going from all the SEED Freedom kits to this was a breath of fresh air, The Duel Blitz was incredibly boring by comparison.
Thank you so much reviewing this kit it's helps alot im planning to get this one plus the zaku one the kit looks really cool feels like the details alot more interesting same on Rg style ❤
I built the EX last weekend, got impatient and went back on Monday and grabbed the Zaku. I didn't paint and weather them, but I did decal them up. Those foot decals for the Zaku are tricky, I found positioning and applying them with a large sewing needle worked best. I know they aren't everyone's favorite, but they are built very nicely and the detail is excellent. For anyone who doesn't know yet, some Target stores have these, they're $22 each.
The $22 price point is great all things considered. $30 for the Duel Blitz and it has half the details to it. I know prices is based on amount of plastic but you get way more bang for your buck with this and the Zaku over some of the newer seed kits.
@@JoesGunplaGarage For sure! This was my favorite Zaku of all that I've built, and it just goes together super smooth. The EX is great too, but those "L" shaped decals are a major pain to apply.
I'm usually a day or 2 behind him so I'm pumped to finally be first to the table here. The new designs took some getting used to but I'm a fan of them now.
As I've said to other people who've gotten this and/or the Zaku Solari, one of the things that the detail and panel lining seem to tie it to is the 1/144 RX-78-f00, with the almost overload of panel lining needed for it, though this seems like it would almost require a lot more due to the fewer colors in the design
Y'know.... this guy kinda' looks like he's fit in as like, an RX-78 (actually, little more EZ-8, if you ask me) amongst the new Armored Core kits. I kinda dig it in that light
This should be my next HGUC kit or should I say “RG” kit. Even an RG kit doesn’t come close to it when it comes to the surface detailing. It also gives off UC Hardgraph vibes tho. 😉
I like the design, and it's appearance for most of the series where it's portrayed as non-stop killing machine. Would have been better if they didn't put a face to the pilot.
Awesome review, to be honest i hated it at first but after watching the series and also after mech designer Kimitoshi Yamane confirm that the script made him think of grim reaper and skeletons, i bady want it now, waiting for mine to arrive.
Thank you for the kind words! I thought the design was polarizing at first too but I like it quite a bit, I thought this Gundam was great in the series, definitely made me appreciate it even more!
Excellent review here, and I especially like how giving the Gundam a good weathering and panel lining makes it look so much better. Was already warming up to the design, but I think getting the model kit will make me like it a lot more. That said, the name of the mobile suit is simply "Gundam EX", as shown on all the displays including the official website. The "E" is for the model number, so it's "RX-78[G]E", and then "Gundam EX", not "E Gundam EX".
I appreciate the kind words on the build! adding the weathering made me warm up to the design a lot while building it. Sadly I can't go back and remove the "E" from my narration, so I'll have to just own up to it and sound like a dummy in this review lol. I fixed it in my Zaku Solari script, as I mention Gundam EX a few times in that review.
I felt the same way, I think that's the best they could do within the confines of the design. Making the knee joint come out farther than it is now to compensate for that big calf would look even more funky. It's still disappointing for sure, luckily we have the Zaku II F type to look forward to.
Thank you for the kind words! I used Tamiya acrylics for all paint I did on this build. I dry brushed the frame with metallic silver, added the armor and painted whatever tubes I saw with Tamiya Red. The shield piece was Tamiya yellow. All weathering was done with Tamiya weathering master, both rust and soot pallets. I'll have a tutorial on this soon!
Dunno, I'd like to have some more cameras, radar, etc for a recon suit. It looks very interesting for sure and absolutely is a unique looking suit, no question. I have no opinion on it yet, tho.
The custom Zaku's are coming through Pbandai. I bet we'll see a Pbandai GM as well, it would mostly need just a new head mold, if I was a betting man I'd say it would come with a rocket launcher too.
I used Tamiya weathering palette Soot and rust around the joints and the legs. I dry brushed the "frame" so to speak with metallic silver acrylic paint and chipped with black paint and the silver throughout the main body of the kit.
For this kit I used, Tamiya acrylic silver dry brushed onto the "inner frame". Once I put the armor on I did chipping with black acrylic paint very lightly throughout the kit, with some silver acyrlic over some of the black spots to give it that fully chipped look. Then I went over the kit with a dry brush and some tamiya weathing master, I only used this on the feet and some of the arms with the "rust" color to give it a dirt type look and then I used the black from the same weathering set at some of the joints to try and emulate grease and worn joints. Might got back now that it's clear coated and add some actual dirt to the feet and try a colored pencil technique I saw on IG the other day.
Im sorry! I couldn't help myself with my weathering ideas, my Zaku review is Out of the box and the remainder of my reviews will be as well. I appreciate the kind words however.
I wasn't really digging the Gundam's design while watching the series but I like it more now seeing it as a model kit. Any chance we'll get a HG kit of the RfV GM or is it just the Gundam and Solari's Zaku?
I bought this kit myself, and my only concern are the leg and arm joints. As they are more seperated from their waist and shoulders, it feels like that the joints will twist and break.
I think it will be okay, It's a fairly sturdy kit despite the joints being a little funky. I put these kits through their paces for my reviews and mine's still super solid.
No way I literally just thought to myself “I wonder if that guy released a full review yet” and I go to check and boom, 11 minutes ago.
Literally same 😂😂

This thing is cool asf in opion
take that Mecha Gaikotsu that's how you make a review straight well details review and no drama mad props joes gunpla!!
Thank you for the kind words and the support! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Can you give me more detail the context drama in the video ?
What kind and brand of weathering did you use? This is so badass!
Just got my RFV kits yesterday, and tell me is worth using Tamiya panel line on these kits?
YES, that's what I used on both my RFV kits and it worked great. Couldn't imagine panel lining these with a pen.
@@JoesGunplaGarage Duly noted ;)
much better if you have reviewed it out of the box so that we can see its original appearance. but a really great work sir!
Haven’t seen the series yet. If the body is similar to the G-EX I bet it’ll be a remold on Pbandai.
@@JoesGunplaGarage Thanks! I was scared that in the middle of posing it, one of the joints would snap off 🥲
this is beautiful damn..... i love if this have a master grade or real grade!
I Definitely like this design quite a bit, I'd love any 1/100 of this.
Didn’t really vibe with the series, but I love this Gundam’s design
Why didn't you like the series? I'm curious.
i hope they do this good on the zaku!
I’ll have that review up next! I love the look of the Zaku.
What material used for the ammo belt?
TPE plastic.
Nice video!!
Thank you so much!
