PLAN & BUILD A 1000 POINT ARMY For Warhammer 40k - What You Need To Get Started & Play Your 1st Game - Ігри
The eliminators in neon yellow armor wearing camo cloaks cracks me up.
They are definitely making statement 🤣
Having recently painted up my Octarius Ork Kommandos as well as a box of Gretchin I bought during a recent visit to Warhammer World in Nottingham, I realised the other day that along with my other greenskins I already had over 500 points; enough to put together a small green tide! Or at least a green trickle. But I find myself planning which HQ to buy next, maybe some silly Killa Kanz and a Mech Gun and a War Boss and a pain doc and some more crazy grots and a ... well ... you get the picture!
Haha yes it's easy to get just 'one more' until your 500 turns into 5000! 🤣 Kill Kanz and bubble gun for sure, though!
@@tabletopskirmishgames Bubble Gunz are sooooo cool!
I love how random they are, brilliant.
Any luck with that army? I'm looking to get started playing with Orkz as well. I'm also starting with the Kill Team Octarius box set, but I may have found a good deal on a Combat Patrol with codex. What's a solid army comp and strategy from those available units?
@@donnylurch4207 Hi! Slowly but surely, I'm getting there. I've now got 60 grots, 10 Kommandos, 12 boyz with Nob, and Zodgrod Wartsnagga (still boxed). Next I want to collect some Killa Kanz and Mech Gunz.
Combat Patrol is excellent value! But I'm building up a grot-based army. I think Combat Patrol gives you 500 points, but there's plenty to add on, I guess. I think there's a new set of army rules coming out, but I'm kind of building my own list which I can mix and match later, to suit.
Great video! Thanks! I'm new to the hobby. Just spent $1,452 (£1,258) on Primaris models alone over the past six weeks. I feel this will give me the ultimate flexibility to try different builds and see what works for my style of play. I bought some limited edition and variant models (i.e. 5 different Captains) just to have them in my collection. Also bought a Battlefoam 720 bag with magna rack sliders. Did I overspend? Who cares?! As you said, I'm enjoying the hobby my way. Cheers!
Thanks, glad it was helpful. Love it! I did the same with my Imperial Guard, almost 6000 points in one go which was expensive but an awesome experience!
Hey lee. This is a good video. I’m in the transition from kill team to 40k and it’s really helpful. Thanks for your warhammer related content ❤
Hey, that's awesome to hear, glad it helped. Thanks for watching!
Trying out kill team first massively sets back the cost, and that will also allow you to see if you enjoy the hobby, great video though!
Amazing, I've seen a bunch of "big channels" teaching how to build an army but this was the best video by far.
That's cool of you to say, thank you!
Great vid, thanks. A lot of people are afraid of leaving out detail and you get a bit bogged down. Nice to get more of an overview like this.
Thank you! I think once you have the main areas to focus on, you can find out the smaller details as you go. Glad it was helpful, and thanks for watching!
Hey there! Awesome video, I myself am firmly on my way out to finishing 500pts of Imperial Guard. So this has been helpful for what to do in the future, even if my army wont be able to win any games.
Thanks, Glen, that's awesome. I've made a few videos for the Imperial guard that you might like.
Spot on brother, good stuff!!
Much appreciated, thanks!
Great video, im just getting into 40k as a tabletop game and im putting together a SoB squad right now for my first army! Im not sure i have enough for 1000pts just yet but this is helpful
Awesome! It's good to start off with 500 points too, then slow grow the army as you learn what each unit does. Have fun getting the army ready for battle!
just a couple of suggestions a) buy Vallejo or AK Interactive paints their cheaper and give you more paint (b) use Army Painter brushes their cheaper and better quality brushes i find (c) use a non-gw plastic glue i use tamiya cement as it comes witha brush applicator so saves on glue....for models goto either Wayland games or Element Games websites their both regular stores but their about the best priced in the UK if you want to order stuff other than that just support your local store
Great suggestions, thanks, Glyn!
I just started to get back into Warhammer and was looking to start building my first army, Recruit Edition is in the Post so i can learn the basics. But, I didnt really have a goal to work towards, and was feeling a little lost, now i certainly have one. I really like this 1000pt army and I worked out if you buy Recruit + Command editions and the Dark Angels Combat Patrol you get nearly everything here, but without Tor Garadon (Captain and Chaplain instead) and an extra squad of assault intercessors instead of a larger regular. Just need to add the Eliminators and Gladiator, which can be a Reaper. It comes to about £50 more with a discount but I also get over 500pts worth of Necrons, a squad of Outriders and a Lieutenant for that additional Fifty quid! Amazing guide I have some direction now!
Sounds like a great plan! Have fun getting all this together 👊
I went out and bought the WD after watching your previous video. I’m in the process of making a Ultramarines force similar to the one you based yours off.
Hey that's awesome, have fun making it. I've been having loads of fun playing them, it's a great shooting army.
Great Video! A lot of great tips there.
Thanks so much!
So far when starting an army, I always started by buying a Combat Patrol box and then adding some models to it untill I get around 1000 points. This most likely does not give me the best troops/best balanced army but I only play at home with friends vs. my own armies so I guess that balances everything out :P
We've done that with Tau. Gone for the Patrol then my boy picked out cool units he liked. We don't worry about balance either, it's all about fun narrative.
Good video! Another option would be: Cobble together something with the cheapest GW miniatures you can find on ebay and see if you can make it work.
Thanks! That's a great idea for a video, nice one!
Combat patrols are a good value way of getting somewhat close to the 1000pts mark!
Great vid thanks! Happy shooting!
Thanks, Richard!
I feel like the hobby got a lot more expensive than when I played in 5th and 6th ed. Like, if you have the money, great I guess, but a resin printer and a ton of resin costs less than this detachment.
I really needed to see this. Generally speaking, how do players feel about home brew chapters? I’ve got a killer idea for one and I’d like to use it to compete and also create a story within 40k. Also should I just start with a “normal” chapter of space marines and make my home brew army after that?
I play a homebrewed chapter. The Codex has a section of successor chapter traits you can pull from. I honestly find it more fun to paint my own chapter than trying to follow a set chapter scheme
As Jeffrey said, the successor chapters traits will help where rules are concerned then go for your own colours. Home brewing is great fun, and I think other players will like to hear about how you came up with your ideas, and background for them. I would anyway!
Bang on bud
Nice one, thanks!
Dude no new player want to enter the clusterfuck that is 9 editinon, can you do one for next edition hoping it will be one page rules.
I know this Vid is older and i just started to collect them and your list is very nice to start a nice 1000 points army ... but with the 10th edition Tor Garadon is not allowed to get into the squad with the assault intercessors so better with the heavy ones then or other ones ? hope somebody will have an answer .. XD
Yeah, this will be outdated now. I haven't been playing since the new 10th Edition came out, so hopefully someone can help you here in the comments.
@@tabletopskirmishgames you could allways go with a squad of Aggressors or Eradicators with Gar. At the moment i use your List as a Basic to start a new Marine Army and try out some stuff to.
I have a 10 man intercessor squad, X3 aggressors, and Tor Garadon as my 500pt list but I'm unsure if I want vehicles in my army except dreadnaughts as I prefer the numbers...what would you recommend for the next 500pts without vehicles?
100% include a Dreadnought. I would recommend Eliminators with Las Fusil to make the most of Round 1 buffs against vehicles. They are also great in cover with their extra cover buffs shooting against the enemy in cover as they will lose their cover. With the remaining 200 or so points I'd be tempted to add some more Intercessors.
@@tabletopskirmishgames thank you for the advice, I'm going to look into that now as I'm expecting a tax rebate to hit my bank soon and want to get my next 500pts...thank you for the quick reply..defo a sub for you dude
Tau Empire
I would suggest getting a cheap, chinese measuring tape for like two quid off ebay. Since I nearly lost a finger when I was a baby on a real measuring tape, I think the snap back power of them is to much to be around models you and your opponent have spent hours painting.
Ouch, that sounds awful!
I just started and built only 2
Good stuff, have fun getting the army ready!
At what point do you reckon it makes sense to go for larger units?
Don’t know if you can still get those Space Marines/Necrons starter sets. Those were a big savings. I picked up the recruit edition for Kill Team.
Play the army for a year or two? I’ve been playing my Warhammer Fantasy dwarves for over twenty years now!
I like the idea of a 10 man Intercessor Squad for the Imperial Fists when you use the Stratagem that let's them shoot again. In a 1500+ point game I will include that. For 1000- points having the extra squads is helpful for objectives, and you get the Sergeants for each squad as a bonus too.
The box they brought out for 9th Edition was so cool, I missed it as wasn't;t playing 40k then. I did get the other Dark Imperium box set a couple of months before 9th edition released, and my boy and I just played with it with our own skirmish rules. Thats an awesome set too. You can still get the three marines vs necrons starter sets, but they aren't as good a those others.
Now that's some good value right there!
How do I count points?
It’s changed for the new 10th edition
Isn't that Imperial Fist supplement only good for 8th edition 40K?
Nope.....it's rather up to date with all space marine chapters... I've got the same codex for my all primaris Ultramarines....
A supplement...? Vitamin D3 is a supplement....CODEX : SPACE MARINES is.....well......a CODEX, isn't it..?
I got the info online so it's up to date. Not 100% sure about the codex supplement.
You get the Codex: Space Marines, then some of the chapters have a Codex Supplement eg Codex Supplement: Space Wolves
@@tabletopskirmishgames I had to jump in & say my bit Lee... regardless of what chapter you follow, in the eyes of the Emperor, we are fellow Astartes...... Brother...lol...pardon my ignorance but what was the grievance between Roboute Guilliman & Rogal Dorn..? I'm sure I've heard before but like many things that's happened in 40k lore, it's highly likely that it went right over my head...😂😂😂
🔥🎸🔥
Hell, y'all get -20%?
Last time I spoke with an flgs they offered -5%, mind you, that was ten years ago, but golly gosh, I might need to talk to my friends on the frozen isle about buying via them, and having them ship it to me, it might actually work out better in Australian dollarydoos.
Could be worth your while!
FOR DORN

Somebody's been telling me that their particular set of (painting) skills wasn't worthy of commission work even although this particular boy am on about does zenithal highlights etc.....lol
Don't trust that guy 🥸
@@tabletopskirmishgames Am on about you mate...as if you didn't know... hahaha 😆😆😆
Lee, I've never really liked the Imperial Fists but your stuff looks neat as fuck my friend...👏👏👏
🤣
Thanks!
This is quite a bad and expensive advise for a 1000pts army. Let's say Bobby G + Combat patrols of DA and SW + a box of Hellblasters is about 256pounds, without the discount, and its over 1500pts with models that you probably gonna need, but the reivers. So you don't need much more to go for a proper 2000pts army instead.
Lots of ways to make this cheaper for sure.
Go lee
