- The Arteon has a unique style from VW. On the outside you will notice a unique shape, 19in wheels, and full LED lighting. On the inside there is a spacious cabin, 8in infotainment system, and digital gauges. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 300HP & is mated to a 7-speed DCT. If Volkswagen wants to make the Jetta relevant again, they should basically just make it into a smaller version of this. The Arteon is too expensive to most people but a $30,000 Jetta liftback styled in this manner to compete with the Acura Integra's body style might find more buyers.

They knew the car wouldn't sell large numbers. VW came out and said this. The car was designed as a deep dive in the artistic creativity of Tobias Suhlmann Marc Lichte who designed the car and had hands in designing cars for Bugatti. They sold the most arteons ever last year in USA at 5,537 cars. People are starting to understand the price. I drive an arteon every day and I understand it. If you are concerned with the price you don't understand Audi pricing once you pile on the options the arteon comes with even fully loaded. It is truly under rated. A Jetta buyer isn't going to look at the arteon just as much as they aren't going to look at the atlas. 26k vs 46k is a price gap
get a slightly used SE version, you will find the price to be late 20s or early 30s.
This has to be one of THE rarest cars on the road today that’s sold from a major auto brand. I rarely see these.

Not many are sold or produced, you rarely ever see one on the streets. So when you own one, you feel like a million bucks since it’s rare like a hypersport car 😌

I have an older year of the Arteon and it’s tuned. I compared the two. The dsg much faster off the line (launch control) but I catch it and pass and higher speeds. Thanks for bringing awareness to this car!!
Also in Europe, the full Arteon R comes with the 320 hp engine, torque vectoring, 2 piece front rotors and 4 piston calipers. HUD, 40 color ambient lighting and a bad ass sounding exhaust. It's selling well there.
It's quite subpar that this doesn't come with North American versions.

BS, we understand these cars perfectly. What bugs us is when the bean counters at VW decided to cheapen the brand & jack up the price to ridiculous prices. VW was always behind on their horsepower compared to the other brands. They were always ahead of the other with safety & then that changed. They had piston’s for the hood & trunk. They dropped it. I had 1 Jetta & 4 Passats. They dropped the leather for fake leather which doesn’t hold up. The price point of the v4 Turbo Premium Gas vs V6 AWD regular gas was nearly triple in price. The equipment was the same as the Turbo 4. The pricing didn’t make sense. It was a huge gap. It was $48K then for the V6 in 2003. This Arteon is stunning. Problem is it’s not being advertised. It’s being pulled from the US Market. Now everyone is saying buy it before it’s pulled off market. Problem is too. The German brands reliability has fallen by the wayside. Improve reliability then the market will pickup. I loved my 2003 VW Passat. It was Blue with Gray Leather interior. It had a Moonroof. I had heated seats. I loved the sound system. I have an even better car now 2018 Lincoln MKZ AWD Reserve 2.0 Turbo with a Moonroof & incredible sound system. It has heated & cooled seats, heated steering wheel & hill assist, 2 automatic parking assist hands free parking. Multiple safety equipment to many too list. My car is all push button too. When I go on throttle it pins me in my seat. I have never experienced that in any Turbo 4 in my life. I have in my 6 cylinder 2011 MKZ & my 1978 V8 Pontiac TransAm 400 engine.
The way Joe gives off examples and stay within that creative realm of describing the cars makes the videos so much better to watch😂
In Europe, we have an R model of the Arteon, with 315hp and 4MOTION. It is also offered as a shooting brake.

@@ivanlowjones I hope you will. Currently there are no plans for VW to bring it there. Probably because the Tiguan sold in North America is quite different from the one sold in Europe, and the Tiguan R is based on the European Tiguan.
So I’m thinking Volkswagen should make a Tiguan R based on the North American model.
I had a 2010 CC and really liked it. Surprisingly fun to drive. I never really have a strong opinion one way or another on interior vent styling. However, these are really gorgeous. Excellent styling.

Always loved the cc body style ! Was browsing some 2016 2017 ccs they are at a very very reasonable price and the mileage I seen on a few were still under 55k miles.

Joe thanks for an amazing review! Yes this thing is missing a couple of features...USB ports in the rear etc however I think this will last a bit longer before major repairs are needed vs the other vehicles and its gonna have that wild factor/ conversation piece to it due to it being different and not seen at every red light or gas station. I'll put my money on this one. 😁🤟🏾🙌🏾🙆🏾♂️✌🏾✅

Great review as always Joe. Loving my 2021 Arteon SEL Premium R line, although I wish it had more power as in the new model. Don't mind the part black roof. Mine is in "King's Red Metallic", looks sleek in the sun.

@@charliefunboy5210 I've had a Tiguan and 2 Golfs and the Arteon is much quieter than any of them. If feels much more premium in all regards.
I really love this vehicle 😍. I don't mind the fact that the roof isn't entirely blacked out, considering that the colour of the vehicle is a bit darker. I wish the vehicle had functional exhausts, so that's where I'll have to issue a zonk. Overall, I'm impressed 👌

My 2020 SEL has quad exhaust coming out those rear openings. Not sure when or why they would change it. The rear bumper looks exactly the same other than that.

I didn’t even know they where still building them. I’ve only ever seen 2 of them. I like them and considered buying one in 2019 but went with any car. It’s a great vehicle like the Kia stinger!!!
I have a 2021 SEL Premium with all of these updates and a few more. Only thing I’m missing was the 300hp and the DSG. Mine has the 8Speed and it came with 272hp from factory. Now APR Tuned with 370hp and makes such a difference.
Can count on one hand how many I’ve seen since July last year when I got mine and I LOVE that.
Hey Michael, I own a 2022 G70. I wish I would have gotten the twin turbo 6 Genesis offers but I didn't. My car is stupid fast as a 4 cyl. turbo but as usual, we aren't satisfied. So instead of trading it in on the TT 6 , the APR tuning has intrigued me. I'm in Southern California and was wondering if you could share the pros and cons of doing this "service" to my car. Thanks for your time.

@@danielquaternik22 if you go with “APR+” you’ll retain a factory warranty through APR. It’s a touch less power but they’ll cover anything if it goes wrong.
Pros - completely wakes the car up and is night and day faster.
Cons - if you go with the high torque file you’re going to lose warranty as it’s an ECU tune. “APR+” however, not sure there are any cons. Complete piece of mind.

Just got a 2022 Arteon. Took it from Dallas to Houston on I 45, and I loved that drive. Smooth ride the entire way. I never heard of this car until about three months ago when I started looking for a new car. Now, I am always on the lookout for another one on the road, and it is true what others have said, there are not many out there. I have not seen another one yet. The VW dealership I got it from only had three, and it's one of the largest VWs in the Metroplex.

I’ve owned a blue Arteon 2021. And after 20K miles - it has no problem at all!! Also, It’s very rare; I haven't seen the second blue Arteon in the Houston area. I got many compliments from friends and even my boss. One last thing, this one is MADE IN GERMANY 😁
Hey man. I’m in Minneapolis and I have a twin of your Arteon. The Conti Pro tires suck, though. Swapped them out for Vredestein Quatrac Pro rubber. Nice addition to a great car.
I have a silver one with 12k on the clock. Infotainment failure: module replaced under warranty. Also 2 interior rattles had to be sorted. Interior quality looks better on 23 model though.

The arteon exterior looks more sporty and more aggressive and the g70 takes it interior wise. The g70 interior is cleaner and more expensive looking. Both are good cars but I think the g70 is more of a 'complete package' the arteon is a fantastic car still. Good review as always Joe.

Nice review as always. I wish you had the trim level with the bigger sexy rims. Makes a big difference aesthetically. This version screams though through the quarter mile pretty quick for a Volkswagen sedan
I have a 2021 Arteon R premium and I usually don't ever get surprised ,but this car has so many premium features I'm blown away. I don't understand why people aren't buying them. Almost everywhere I go strangers comment on how beautiful the car is. I plan on upgrading to the 2023 because I want the new engine and Trans setup. Also I wanted the Audi S5 sportback, but felt it was too small since the wife has the SQ5
I have a 2019 R Line Premium in Kurkuma Yellow Metallic, and I have never received as many compliments as I have with this car. People slow in traffic to check it out, I get admiring comments regularly, and people walking on the street often go out of their way to look at it. It's stunning. And it's top-notch quality, fit and finish. I love driving it!
Same here but you will be loosing on a couple of cool features (rear heated seats, ventilated front seats, you will now get the rear fake exhaust) if you do so because of the chip shortage issue and if you finance you will most likely get a way higher interest rate 😫
I love my 2019 base model Arteon.
This inline 4 is what the Atlas needs. Loved the interior. At $48K, the omission of USB ports for the rear occupants is simply unexcusable. In general an elegant vehicle.
I believe you get them on the highest trim level. I have the range topping SEL Premium and mine has heated rear seats and 2 USB type C in the rear with a 12v (I think) as well as the climate controls.

I’ve got Arteon a few month ago. Was cross shopping it with Audi A4/A5 for obvious reasons. Audi ends up more expensive for the typical packages you can find on the lots in California. There is some overlap price point, where if you ok with smaller car - Audi, if you need enormous trunk space and rear passenger area you go with Arteon.
I needed a car to carry around surfboards, the 7’4 board fits inside diagonally with just folded rear seats. This is proper size 3 row SUV territory in a midsize sedan footprint.
@raitisrides I have a 2021 before the 7 speed DSG. I have only 268 and 260 torque with 4 motion but as a daily this car is terrific.
I got a 2022 VW ARTEON SE-R. Same color and I'm pretty happy.

Just sold my Arteon recently. Had 60k miles and was very reliable. No issues during owner except a few rattles in the interior.
Probably just some plastic pieces that have worn a lil bit

Had NO idea the output in the Arteon was FINALLY updated until today 🥴 … honestly it’s always needed the VR6 but at least the hp/tq match it more decently now
It's interesting how the body colors really change the look of the cars aggresiveness. I own a white one and it really makes it look really sporty. I'm constantly getting complimented on how good looking this car is.

Great review, as always! You were curious what people thought of infotainment screen. I feel as though I may be in the minority, but I haven't yet seen too many other comments on this. Personally, I would like a reasonable size, but it doesn't need to be too large. I don't mind the size of this one. I HATE the tablet style that most new cars have now. I really don't like the look of a separate tablet just sitting on top of the dashboard. Aesthetically, I like them MUCH more when they are better integrated into the dash. Much cleaner look. I just want the system to be intuitive and function well, doesn't need a giant screen. I think this Arteon is too average in all areas. Nice looking, but doesn't beat the competition. Performance, you lost me at "detuned." It performs well, it did put a mile on your face. But, comparatively, doesn't beat anyone out. If you want it to be a bit more luxurious, it's nice, but again, not a clear winner. No ventilated seats or rear USBs? You can get a Forte with ventilated seats. I'm surprised at the number of cars in the $40K and even $50K plus range that don't have ventilated seats.

I wish I had a 22 or 23 model one. I have a 21 and it doesn’t have that extra 32 HP and torque. I do love my car. Blacked out roof would be awesome, also buttons for dual climate would be ideal. I hope the later versions bring the European power also if they moved the screen to the top with a 10in like the AUDI that would be awesome. Besides that I wouldn’t change much.

This is compared to the Stinger not the G70 to completely different range of vehicles.
Thank you so much for doing this review. I think the Arteon is one of the best looking sedans on the market and even competes in looks against sedans twice the price. I always thought if VW wants the Arteon to have a chance in the US it needed to increase the hp to at least 300 and presto. They did it. I am one of those people who still prefer sedans over SUV's and I think VW is moving in the right direction with the Arteon.

The Arteon is the sister to the Audi A5 but for 7-10k less. The premium package adds vented seats, 3 zone climate, overhead camera, massage seats, heated rear seats, park assist, Harmon Kardon stereo, and a few other tidbits. Comes in at 50k. The moonstone grey is the best looking. Too bad they only offer black interior. The usability of the cargo area is a huge plus over the competition.
vw cant cost 50k. 25-30k max. It will not last past 100k miles.

I have the 2023 arteon , and honestly I love it , everything about it, nice leather sporty/luxury inside, good combination, great driving , and it's pretty fast lol.
The SEL R was much better equipped in Canada with Harmon Kardon sound, ventilated front seats, driver seat massage, heated rear seats with climate control and USB C ports....but ours was over $55k and VW Canada dropped it after '22. Glad I got mine when I did because it's a great car!

Goodluck with that Hyundai/Kia engine. Not trying to knock your purchase because those are indeed beautiful cars... but their engines are trash and are known to be problematic.

Have the 2021 SEL Premium R Line, a unicorn of a car and trim. Still get stares, very nice looking car. Also impresses everyone that sits in the backseat. Took a trip up to Disney with 4 friends. Fit 5 carry on bags in the hatchback no problem.
Never selling this car. The new model years have a stronger engine and transmission, but I can live without.
Joe - I remember you reviewed the Passat GT which is what I daily drive today. It has the VR6 with 280hp, 19" rims, no adaptive suspension, and the previous 6 speed DSG. I think I got it out the door for about $26k back in 2018. Do you think jumping up to the Arteon is worth the $48k price tag? I've been seriously considering it but the previous model didn't have enough HP to make it worth the jump. But now...

I’m in the EXACT same situation!! Paid $24.5 NEW in 2018. Love the VR6 naturally aspirated… and the GT sport exhaust is amazing. If they would have made our GTs AWD with adaptive dampers, perfect car. That said… I’ve always wanted an Arteon. Let us know what you decide!!
just seeing this comment and I got the 2022 arteon SEL R Line which also has the 300hp with those 20 inch wheels and its perfect. so if you still are thinking about it, honestly you should go for it. its worth it.

Nice Review. I own a 2021 Arteon Premium R-line 4motion in Silver. IMO the Silver showcases the vehicle much nicer in conjunction with the upgraded 20 wheels that come with in comparison to this Moonstone Grey (which we all know is Nardo Gray). Mine also comes with heated & ventilated front seats, so I do believe the vehicle you reviewed was not a premium r-line. Oddly enough, I owned a 2013 VW CC Lux and the turbo hit a little harder in that compared to my '21 Arteon. Although, it was a bit jerky in stop and go traffic. VW did a good job of improving the driving experience in slow traffic. Still needs about 330 hp and better brakes for the price point. I purchased my Arteon over the Genesis G70 for a few reasons: 1) Rear passenger space 2) Rear Liftgate was definitely needed 3) Virtual Cockpit 4)20" Wheels Each of those 4 things liked the VW offering in comparison to Genesis. Now, I would love to drive that 3.3T in the G70 daily....I know that might have landed me a few tickets, so I know I made a wise choice with my Arteon. G70 is a compact car and more luxurious. But Arteon is a medium to large car which is also fun to drive, while being bigger and roomier and one can conceive family buying this who are not suvangelists. G70 for those who want to stand out and want to extract the last bit of fun out of their car, Arteon for the rest.
Rear of the G70 is tiny otherwise I would have bought one.

This is NOT a sports sedan. If you want something focused on “sportiness” the Arteon isn’t for you. It’s basically a luxury hatch/lift back. It’s more practical than anything. I have a 21 SEL W/4Motion in Lapiz Blue Metallic. Raitti doesn’t even mention the adaptive headlights with iq Drive. Or the adaptive cruise control, or the logo door lights. This car does ALOT, that a lot ppl don’t go over. Its almost a whole different car at night. The interior ambient lighting is AMAZING. The amount of room for passengers on the inside is crazy. Not to mention the hatch space. You can fit so much stuff in this car. If you want a Arteon and are worried about the horsepower just get a tune. Mine is tuned and lowered and it’s a whole different car 😅. Also when you have a Arteon be prepared for looks and stares, and questions from ppl. The Arteon is such a unicorn out in the real world. I love mine I wouldn’t trade it for a stinger BY ANY MEANS or a Genesis. Also my 21’ has real exhaust so 🤷🏾♂️ when they changed that 😂
Yep yep and yep. Brilliant car. I adore mine. Mine is deep black pearl. 2021 SEL Premium with the power lift gate, cooled seats etc.. Just the tune so far but about to lower and do a chrome delete. Going for the all blacked out look.
Had so many people compliment the car at meets and shows and just passers by when they’ve seen me getting out. Love how rare and unique it is.

I really like this car as the G70 these Volkswagen cars are nice believe the G70 might be better though now interesting in Arteon love this model hate other models are dying also Arteon will be dead after 2023. I really enjoy the test drive throughout the intersections and city streets. I like blind spot on the outside mirror better on my 2015 Rogue blind spot inside of door panels which prefer on outside than inside.

@@martindworak I was talking about when he goes on test drives enjoy him traveling on highways and interstates. Other thing was talking about the the blind spot warning indicator mines is inside on the car instead on the outside mirror. When talking about the G70 better than Arteon talking it has better styling and will last longer.
Shame that we don't get the Arteon R here in the States. Unless we do and I'm just completely out of the loop. xD

We don’t get it unfortunately. I held off buying mine incase they were going to introduce it here. In the end I had my heart set on an Arteon so I got the SEL Premium last July. Been an epic car

I own the 2021 White R line but replaces all emblems with Matt black and R line symbols on all small logos (Badgeskins) I love the car so much Ive owned it for a year with no issues at all and all the looks and questions. They stopped bringing them in Canada in 2021. I love the colour here but I wish the 2023 had an update of sorts ? Change to interior or screen, maybe different seats. To me this is exactly the same car as 2021. A little extra HP but that's it (mine has more bells and whistles, Autopark, Rear seat heat and such.

Love the ergonomics of this car. Love the infotainment monitor being integrated with the dashboard; Porsche does it as well, instead of the ipad style which only Audi can
elegantly achieve on their cars; otherwise, it just looks funky & ghetto on other cars, imo. The 300hp & 7-speed DSG & 4motion AWD are certainly +++s. Well done VW.

I bought a 2023 arteon sel premium r line 4 motion. Love it. My kods needed a car so i gave him fmmy 2019 passat n picked this up. I have a 2014 s6 i bought in 2015 and this arteon reminds me so much of it. I really wanted a s7 but too much for me.

Ventilated seats are speced for the SEL Premium, though there have been supply chain issues. I personally prefer the integrated screen, and there is no need to make it larger. I also found the HVAC controls easy to use, though the steering wheel controls are a little touchy. I am leaning Arteon over Stinger, and I think the G70 is too small.

I recently purchased a used 2020 SEL-RLINE in Urano Gray and loving it so far.The car drives and feels solid on the road,no rattles from frame less doors,seats are comfortable for me,im big guy. The car I have somebody took good care of not alot of wear and tear showing on inside or outside.Gas mileage is excellent with mileage trainer to help and show you how you are doing.Im wondering if mileage goes down alot with the more powerful new 2023 or is still in the same ball park? As Joe was asking wouldnt want the whole roof to be blacked out glass as the car gets hot enough with the larger than normal glass sunroof in my car I have the virtual cockpit and having test drove some Audis this car is very close in feel,not quite as quick or sporty but very close in drive and feel,not huge difference for me.This is more made for a smooth cruising type ride.It does really well on the highway commute to work,its relaxing car to drive,very quiet.Auto start stop is nice and helps mileage,storage is massive.If all goes well after this is paid off may move to like and A6 or S6,I really love them as well.The interior seems durable,leather is good and shows very little wear in my car for its mileage.This Moonstone is beautiful for the lines of the car,its lighter than my Urano Gray color which I really love.So far very pleased ,its a solid ,underrated,underappreciated car in my humble opinion.

I have a 2021 Arteon that I got new and it has to be one of the best cars I have owned. My only issue is that it has the old 268 engine.
And I have a 2021 as well, the SE trim unfortunately. I wish that I could have had the extra horsepower but perhaps in a couple of years I'll get a 2023 leftover..
