    Sadly, shortly after we filmed this vehicle, VW announced that 2024 will be the last year for the Arteon and its a full-size premium sedan that we're going to miss. I had a 14 CC with just over a 100k on the clock when it got totaled a month ago. The Arteon had been on my radar as a one day possible replacement but the early models with the 8 speed gearbox left a lot to be desired and I kind of wrote it off. But with needed to find a car I came across a 22 Arteon SEL R-Line non premium 4motion with the DSG with only 4500 miles.. and its an amazing car! SO I bought it and am very happy with it!
    I think the biggest drawback is the 50k-ish for " just a VW" is a tough sell on the new car market but slightly used they are a hell of a deal. I got mine for 37k. Also VW didn't do this car any favors only offering it at the beginning with the wrong gearbox/power output. It's like they finally got it right just into to only pull the plug on a great sporty/luxury/practical sedan option that allows you not to have to go the SUV route.

    • @baronvonjo1929
      @baronvonjo1929 Рік тому

      People are definitely open to spend over 50k on many mainstream vehicles. However no sedan is really very desirable at that price. If it was a truck or body on frame SUV it would sell. You get to little car for the money in people's eyes. Just makes no sense to them.

    • @billlump3792
      @billlump3792 Рік тому

      @@baronvonjo1929 Absolutely. What I am saying is I think VW outpriced themselves with a "niche" car. most people will either buy a truck if they need one. Or they will over look this car because of the price point new at 50K and go with a cheaper comparable optioned SUV.....and the people who do actually want a sedan will either go with the more safer/cheaper mainstream choices ( Camrey or Accord) or the ones who are willing to pony up 50K+ for one will most likely be willing to pay a bit more for an Audi, BMW, or MB. I think if VW would have offered the SEL Rline 4 Montion in the low 40s sales would have been a lot better to no have to scuttle the ship.

    That 18 gallon tank makes for a great road trip car! I have the 2021 Arteon and frequently get over 550 miles (sometimes 600) in highway driving. You just can't get that from it's competitors. Plus it's one of the most comfortable cars to cruise around in.

    I've been an Arteon fan since I saw the first one and I loved your review of the 2019. I'm guessing I'm the "target" demographic (over 50?). I've been looking at the SEL-Premium because my next vehicle WILL have ventilated seats - a must in CA central valley where summers are over 100 degrees most days in mid summer and I LOVE this color and the interior. Thanks for the updated review and I'm VERY sad to hear that this car is going away. I've looked at Toyotas (not the Crown) and they just feel plastic and cheap on the inside. I love the interior on this and being 6' 1" with three teenage sons my size I need the extra leg room in the back and the extended trunk space. I also love the seat memory because my wife is NOT 6'... or even close 🤣. Finally I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wish this came with the 3.0L 6-cyl from the Atlas. A little tuning that this thing would sell a ton, IMHO. As always, I love the reviews and keep them coming!

I got a 22 SEL 4Motion with 4500 miles on it and it already depreciated from the dealers asking price 11k off of the 48.5K window sticker. Definitely look for the MY 22 and newer for the DSG and 300 hp.

    I've been debating for so long on trading in my CC R line for this. This is probably one of the most beautiful cars VW has ever made under the VW badge. I'll be happy to still be one of the few sedan enjoyers left in North America since everyone wants SUVs/Crossovers now. Will help with negotiating a decent price too since no one's buying sedans and these aren't selling well.
    People always say why not just get an A4/A5 when the Arteon is mentioned but don't realize that it's not even in the same size class, you get less power, and less options for the same price. You'd have to step it up to the S4/S5 for a proper comparison of luxury/performance options and still have a smaller car if size is one of the things in your search criteria. I'm still going to be filling the exact same Audi/VW windshield washer & coolant reservoirs and same Audi/VW approved oil w/o the Audi price premium for less. Audi interiors are hands down one of the best in the industry though.

    I recently purchased a '23 SEL R-Line Premium in white. The biggest problem with it is these wheels and tire combo is absolutely garbage. In the Premium trim you are riding on rubber bands. I have hit 2 moderate potholes and have had to replace 3 tires. I have driven the same way for 16 years and only had a flat tire once. I've driven this car 5000 miles and replaced 3 tires. I will need to go down to 17's for winter for sure, but VW never should have made the 20 inch tires standard on any trim. They look sweet but the liability they bring is absolutely assinine. That said, it's a sick car, tech is great, rides like a champ, paid a lot less than sticker... Huge backseat legroom, storage with the hatchback.. checked all my boxes.

      @@alvin1039 I'm far from the only one. The Arteon owner's facebook pages and several other forums online of people all around the world with this vehicle have gone through tires like nothing. It's not like I'm off-roading, I'm going at or below the speed of traffic, both instances were completely out of my control. An accord, camry, sonata, any vehicle like that would have eaten them up like nothing. The Arteon tires buckle like I'm riding on birthday balloons. Oh well, I'll look into the TOYO's and a few other rec's I found on the forums. To ease my anxiety I think I'm going to just go down in wheel size at the same time. And all of that said, I still love the car. It's got just about anything you're looking for except for ride height, but I prefer sedans myself. This is about as perfect as a 4 banger is going to get.

Unless you live in a area with pristine roads it's terrible. I live in the rolling hills of the Appalachian mts. So many roads incline and decline or when connecting to other roads. You will damage it one day you can see all the other sedans with damages. You can be careful but if you have a car for years and 10s of thousands of miles a mistake will happen.

When the Arteon first came out, I knew the lack of DSG gearbox was gonna make it mediocre, so glad they made the right move with the switch to the complete Golf R drivetrain. I'd say it's a pretty damn good compromise for a car with some A5 Sportback niceness but a lot more space, although I get that there's simply way more folk who would spend $50K on an SUV or an Audi..... A5 Sportback: less power, but slightly more sophisticated suspension and AWD system, way cozier cabin space, probably slightly better tech and audio, styling may be preferable.
