I love how most of them think that because they have more money than you, they are better people. Still love my CC! The 2.0t can be turbo swapped for under 2k and makes an additional 180hp. The upgrades available and durability on that engine are why VW keeps it around. Besides timing chain in early models these engines are bulletproof.
They have carbon buildup issues and burn oil like all German cars and VWs

Analog clock is a symbol. When you think about it , nearly everybody has a phone now and it has a digital clock , but we pay immense amounts of money for analog watches because it looks cool and makes you look more nice.

You're overlooking digital watches like the Apple Watch or Moto 360. I see just as many of those these days. And I suspect analog will always be more expensive, they generally require more niche specialists that hand build them

I just picked one of these up. 2020 at 23k miles and it costed $26k. Everyone around me commented that it looks and feels a lot more expensive then it actually was. I'm very happy with it so far. Comfortable and nice tech and it chugs along pretty quickly when you want to. More then you need with the speed limits I live with for sure.

Na, that already came in 2008. SUV hate. We see them now because car companies are wringing the last drops if profit from the concept. After this we will be lead to the self driving 'coaches'. Such as the new lexus executive van.
SUVs are overrated.
Millennials and Zoomers never cared about them to begin with. It was suburban soccer moms who made them popular. Now that the younger generations are facing increasing costs of living and student debt, the last thing that they want is a $30k+ hard to park gas guzzler that they'll only drive on city roads.
In a couple of years when us Gen Z/young millennials can afford new cars SUVs will die out pretty quickly. Don’t know a single person younger than 30 that dreams of SUVs lol

A lot of people seem to compare the Arteon to the A5, but really it’s closer in size and storage to the A7. So, if you’re trying to get VW luxury car with tons of passenger space, high-quality interior and tech, and loads of storage in the boot, but spend ~$25k less than the A7. Sure the engine isn’t the same as the A7, and it’s not as sporty as the Golf R, it is such a quiet cabin with refined driving capabilities. It’s a great place to sit and drive. Very smooth comfortable with plenty of everyday power and handling. I am definitely considering getting it tuned tho to give it that extra ~50 hp and torque to help give it a bit more dynamic response.

I asked a friend who works for VW. He said, its bullshit. VW would never ever made that just to make it look like a smile. Just because it would cost money. Even if it would cost only 1ct per car, they wouldnt do it. Because saving money is a real thing for VW. So that "smile" has to have a more practical use.

It's definitly a spacer strip so the latch doesn't scratch the plastic surrounding. I mean; It's a VW. They know that hood latch will be operated very often.

The half circle line reduces the amount of surface area the latch contacts. It also stops mass scratches. They didn't explicitly *have* to use this, so I'd like to believe the engineers giggle every time they look at the latch in one of their cars
Analog clock is one of my favorite features.
Agreed on the horsepower. Fortunately we have APR and Unitronic. This car and the cc are both perfect around 300hp and 330tq.

VW actually has 3 more SUVs in EU. The T-Cross (which is newer than the Arteon) the T-Roc and the new Touareg (which is also newer than the Arteon)

The design of the "mock vent" in-between the functional climate control vents could allow additional options for placement of "vent mounted" accessories like phone holders. Whether by coincidence or intent.

The little song u can play in the infotainment screen and the smiley face under the hood and the Volkswagen logo to open the trunk opening are the best features from the arteon in my opinion.
I actually love my analog clock in my VW. It's a visible clock, even when the car is off. Which the digital ones are not.
I dont get how 270 hp is 'just enough' in europe most cars have like 100 hp and 270 is considered loads in anyway car
America... 150 HP is normal and enough for most people here.
It's more because of the price and level of the car. For something like this (mid-high end range) there should be a V6 or at least an option to get one. Even if it has less horsepower then a turbocharged V4, response time will be faster and the acceleration would be smoother.
In Germany 180hp is the top of the line for the Most People. 2Liter Engines are enough for the Most. The Point is our fuel is expencive. 1liter= 1,50€

The Eos and the Nettle were both based on the golf platform and were designed to cover every single niche that the golf all-rounder couldn't quite reach. The Arteon is basically a slightly mor premium and sharp designed Passat. Most of the costs of development go into the base platform and since these are shared, as are many technologies built into these niche cars, the costs are greatly reduced.
Also, in Europe VW sells a while bunch of small SUVs but only offer the two largest in the US market.
This "newest volkswagen" has been driving all over Europe for almost 2 years now.
If a majority of his viewers were in Europe that might mean something. And being a couple years old doesn’t mean it isn’t still the newest.

This guy is apparently not a car journalist. He doesn't make any research, he doesn't go any car events, he is unable to make true comparisons with the cars in the same segment he has no expertise on cars etc. Only interesting thing about this channel is that one may learn interesting features of cars but only by spending over 15 minutes for a review.
I prefer having an analogue clock in my car because there's more analogue clocks in the world.

Regarding the Think Blue meter:
If you drive smoothly and use the ECO settings, you get lots of blue lines in the circle and your score creeps up.
If you drive like you stole it, the blue lines disappear completely and your score drops.
In Europe we get the arteon with a 2.0tdi manual with 150hp and we think it's more than enough and you in the US get freaking 270hp and say "it's enough" you guys are spoilt AF!!

B8 Passat owner here. The clock isn't necessary, but it does make every passenger go "ooh, a clock!"
For that reason, I appreciate the clock.
The sunroof cover feature is about air but no bugs..
The blank switches are about blank switches.
On my Skoda (Another VW brand that makes better looking, more reliable cars than VW seems to be able to manage, even though they're using the same parts bin and sells them cheaper than VW) those buttons are mostly filled, and with the buttons that look out of place in the middle of the dashboard. I was shocked the sunroof cover wasn't powered - it is on my much cheaper Skoda, which also has a full glass roof rather than the small one on the Arteon. Look for decent pictures of the Skoda Superb Kombi (Wagon) or hatch to see the best looking car VW make. Not sold in the US, but I suspect it would do well as the pricing is much more competitive - here's what happened when the previous model Superb (Mk2 Facelift) was brought over: ua-cam.com/video/34F1eBvlfTo/v-deo.html - the new model is much better looking and it's not like the old one was doing badly in the looks department in the first place.

The point of an analog clock is so a person sitting inside can read it even when the car is off. Now that everyone has a smart phone- it IS kinda pointless but once again whooosh time for Doug.

He has changed a lot since the beginnig, no more funny videos, much fewer old and quirky cars in exchange for the newest models and for constantly plugging this or that dealership. With a normal person I would have taken that as a joke but Doug's shown many times, a shockingly low understanding of cars. He gets things wrong that make you Palm your face in disbelief. I remember when he called a door speaker a sub woofer.

VW sells several SUVs in Europe though: Touareg, Tiguan T-roc, T-cross. Also the Amarok pickup.
And I have hardly seen an Arteon over here. Maybe they think it'll have more success in the US rather than Europe?

The Tiguan is incredibly popular in the UK. I have never seen an arteon over here,even tho it went on sale this time last year.

2 weeks ago... Doug broke into my car so he could read the owners manual. In the morning I found him sound asleep in the drivers seat ... manual clutched to his chest and a smile on his face.
I would assume that the "smile" portion of the hood release latch is actually to give support to the plastic handle, so that it moves more easily and doesn't leave scratches on the plastic fascia there. without it, the whole underside portion of that plastic handle would rub against the sight shield and be less pleasant to open. The smile acts as a "glide" for the handle.
When "This" the first word in the intro is unusually high pitched, you know Dougy is excited.

@@silence19999 if your traffic is so bad that you fear of getting rear ended, buy an SUV. You are the king of the road, and you're sitting higher so you have better visibility in heavy traffic.
BTW, I don't personally advocate buying an SUV. I just think that they have the exact same practicality than a luxury sedan. And I can see why people would choose an SUV over a sedan in a country with questionable driving culture.

Noooo doug, you missed a great quirk/feature with the CarGo system! So that big thick cargo mat is also a velcro bottom - vw has these little plastic velcro lined blocks that you can attach to the mat and create little custom cargo caddies. @@ninaakari5181 We dont have that many SUVs here. I feel like hatchbacks in the cheaper class and Station Wagon in a more expensive class. There are more Sedans than SUVs tho.

@@ninaakari5181 Traditionally mostly Hatchbacks and Station Wagons. But in recent years electronic cars, very small cars like the Smart, fat SUVs and huge Pickups Trucks like the F400 are on the uprise. Almost no Sedans, though - my fellow Germans seem to hate limousines for some reason, i think because they're considered old-fashioned. The Arteon is kind of an exception.

I love the sunroof cover in my GTI. Its great for keeping debris from flying in in the fall, or the sun. Pretty sure the gear shift console buttons are just a stock part in all VWs
Went from Cadillac in 90s to Mercedes Benz passed 15yrs to Vw sedans and i will say I am happy with mine has everything I need plus great fuel economy dont sleep or hate on Volkswagen GREAT CARS!!

Definitely quicker than that. Skoda superb on the same engine and drivetrain does it in about 5.5 with launch control. I suspect VW don't really tune the ea888 to 270hp when it's 300on the golf R. So just understating it for PR reasons.
I doubt 5.9. More like 6.5 seconds. 5.9 would be with a DSG.
@@TsLeng Skoda has a 7DSG, and it does 5.5 only with launch control. This one has a traditional 8 speed automatic.

Sunroof longterm issue:
Keeping shade screen closed while driving with sunroof is open will eventually stretch the shade screen. It will hang, or get caught up in automated models.
you're 100% right that VW should concentrate on SUVs but to be honest when i went to the dealership i took a quick look at their SUV which were on my top list. For some odd reason i ended up buying a new VW Jetta. I keep looking at the Tiguan but here i am watching your review on the Arteon. Maybe VW knows something we don't and they keep making sedans.....
