Great video! But, I need to make one huge correction: DCS World is certainly NOT an “empty shell”. It includes a large and recently updated Caucasus map, an Su-25T Russian attack jet and a TF-51D Mustang. All for free. These allow new players to first try DCS World without paying a cent and see how their hardware handles it. Also, the MIN SPEC is based on the default LOW preset and plays quite well.
ROFL smacked by the dev! We love you, Grimmy :) Agreed; great video! But to be honest, there is a hidden compliment in here. If there is SO FLIPPING MUCH content available for purchase (modules / maps) that the basic version "feels" empty by comparison, then what does that say about all the extra content out there? Point: this sim is HUGE and you can take it as far as you want!

Theres also a DCS World Steam Edition - obviously on steam. Can you tell me if it's the "same" as the DCS World 2.5 from the Website or if i will have any disadvantage if i use the Steam Edition?
Advantages of using steam is that you get automatic updates, but if you don't use steam version and use the standalone version (version that he is presenting in the video from THEIR site, not steam), you will most likely get more sales on modules (modules are the addon aircraft such as extra maps, extra missions/campaigns, and extra aircraft such as F/A-18, F-14B, A-10, etc. Modules bought from the standalone version are NOT compatible with the steam version, and if you buy from steam you only get sales on modules when steam has their big sales such as the steam summer sale, etc. But the base price (non sale) for modules is the same for both versions, for example the F/A-18C (as of June 2021) is $80 USD. TL;DR: If you buy from steam you get the same game, but with automatic updates, but you won't get as many sales on different aircraft/maps/campaigns/etc, if you buy standalone you get more sales, same game as steam, but no automatic updates.
V SYNC CAUSES A LARGE DROP IN PERFORMANCE. While it might eliminate some screen tearing, it will cause you to run at a lower frame rate. Do not use it if you have a monitor with g sync or free sync, and it should be the first thing that you turn off if you are looking for a higher frame rate

VSYNC is going to depend on if your monitor. If your graphics card out preforms your monitor leave it off, but if you have a fast monitor you should turn it on to keep your graphics card and monitor equal. You will lose frames so I would recommend a graphics card update.
My first purchase was the A-10A. I find it hard to see the targets on the Maveric display and if i finally lock on to something i don't know what it is. So many telephone poles have been destroyed 😒.
was wondering, how this works, thanks man for this video very useful, and yes it takes time to install this, so I'm deleting it and wait for my 2TB SSD
Since i am a "computer guy" I will give a quick rundown of the options and recommend certain things. Note: I haven't played this game yet, but I still belive my predictions will be 90% accurate. If you got anyquestion or want to tell me how bad my english is (I already know it) feel free to write a comment. *Textures* Important for the quality of you cockpit. Will require moderate VRam (The storage your Graphics card has for textures) Overall recommended to put it on the highest setting *Terrain Textures* Obvious Will require lots of VRam. Not worth it if you dont have a lot of VRam, since you will be looking into the sky most of the time. *Civ. Traffic* Civilian Traffic Mostly more work for you processor. Maybe important if you want to shoot cinematics *Water* Processing intensive Medium settings usually is the best *Visib. Range* Very important Determines how much of the world is rendered. Highest settings if possible *Heat blurr* Not so important Only use it in cinematics *Shadows* Determines how sharp the shadows do look. Very important aspect of your experience Highest settings recommended *Resolution* Chose the highest resolution possible. 1920*1080 recommended for weaker pcs If you do have a WQHD Monitor it would be best to lower some settings in order to ramp your resolution up. *Cockpit Displays* Down to personal preference *MSAA* Renderes the image at a higher resolution, to scale it down. This softens the edges The higher the better 16X is recommended if your resolution is lower then 1920*1080. If its higher turn it off. Dont sacrifice shadows or textures. *Depth of field* No *Lens effects* Yes Expandet it a bit *Grass* Decides how many sprites (textures) are visible on the screen. Absolutely useless... Very performance hungry. If you have bad performance its best to reduce this instead of textures, MSAA etc. *Trees* Just like the grass thingy, but it actually has an impact, besides bad fps Bit more iportant than grass, but still negligible *Preeload radius* The radius, at which your PC already loads the images, to reduce stuttering and plopping If your hardware isnt strong enough it causes stuttering itself. Only for powerfull rigs *Anisotrophic filtering* Very important Textures usually get distorted if you viw them at an angle This prevents that and is therefore the second most important setting Medium impact on performance *Global ilumination* Calculates reflections and refractions Direct lighting calculates the rays from a light scource and how they hit an object Global ilumination calculates how the light bounces of surfaces and how different objects iluminate others

Hi there. I am back to pc after an absence of a number of years and am thrilled to now have a machine that should run this sim beautifully. Also, for the first time EVER, I have an internet connection which isn’t completely Stone Age. It’s not world beating... but on a good day, it’s five times the speed of my old single digits affair and for our purposes I’m very happy with it. I ran DCS all those years ago and have a number of modules. I do seem to remember the initial download being pretty horrific, but I wasn’t worried about that this time. I mean, I just downloaded the entire world for X-Plane 11 and it wasn’t too painful. But starting the DCS download.. it barely seemed to be moving. There was no indication of how long it was actually going to take and fuelled by posts from people saying it took them 24 hrs! I cancelled out of it for the moment. Do you think I might be doing something wrong? Also. The install notes recommend turning off your antivirus to speed things up! Really? That seems like a staggeringly bad idea and I really don’t want to be doing that.
good video cap, I would love a vid on proper radio communication, IE how to request landing, bogey dope, general communication, that type of stuff. I have around 100 hours in the game and still don't know how to communicate well, which has been sorta keeping me from multiplayer, and there arent a lot of resources on comms so it's hard to learn. thanks!
Hey Cap, as usual a good and very informative video, which should come in especially helpful for those new to these sim / simming niche. I was kind of hoping for a Chuck's Guides reference in the section about aircraft setup though, as these guides and the videos that you guys (GrimReapers) put out so diligently are IMHO the best ways to get familiar with (new) aircraft. However, they are naturally not exclusive to one another and I think having the information available on seperate media (eg a nice GR video as well as a crisp guide by Chuck) does wonders for the DCS module learning process, especially if you can cross-reference the 2. Any thoughs?
Nanne118 i agree with this i also wish to see videos for fixes when the install breaks and other bugs preventing playing or making it harder to play from bugs
I don’t know if anyone will see this but I just bought a key for the F-18 but then found out that steam doesn’t take them. Does this version take keys of G2A?
I have a ryzen 5 system slightly overclocked 16gb of ram and a gtx 1050 Ti installed on an SSD. Loading is painless and FPS is around 40 to 55 goes well over 60 when you’re cruising at higher altitudes. Now mind you this is with everything maxed out so my benchmark is worst case scenario. This simulator is well optimized you don’t need a monster pc to run it :)
Thank you for posting.Im thinking of getting started and your explanation was easy to follow. Now all I have to do is get over my “ old and stupid” fear of computers and I will begin. Thanks again.
Finally have a PC strong enough to run these kinds of games and id love to turn that childhood sense of thrill I got from ace combat back in the day to something a "tad more realistic". These videos are very helpful
I remember starting out in DCS, one trick I found was to copy down all the steps in each training mission in a notebook and break them down into sections, which is really useful for reference while in a server or campaign

Size of this game
1) download the things
2) read the text
3) click the buttons
4) play the game
Downloading now. I'm a 42yr old pilot and I can't wait to get this game going. Thanks a ton!
How'd it go, is the game accurate?
Whoa... I AM watching this a few years in the future
I ordered my hotas system and can't wait to get started!!
WElcome!
Watching you guys got me back into DCS world, even though I'm not great at it.
Welcome back Silver
VSYNC is going to depend on if your monitor. If your graphics card out preforms your monitor leave it off, but if you have a fast monitor you should turn it on to keep your graphics card and monitor equal. You will lose frames so I would recommend a graphics card update.
Wow, this really makes me want to play the game.
My first purchase was the A-10A. I find it hard to see the targets on the Maveric display and if i finally lock on to something i don't know what it is. So many telephone poles have been destroyed 😒.
LOL yes welcome to CAS. I think that plane has a zoom in function on the display.
@@grimreapers Yes but it don't help when the ir is showing every thing as heat signature, it's just a mess.
was wondering, how this works, thanks man for this video very useful, and yes it takes time to install this, so I'm deleting it and wait for my 2TB SSD
This gets me motivated to get back into PC games and to build a new gaming PC
Since i am a "computer guy" I will give a quick rundown of the options and recommend certain things. Note: I haven't played this game yet, but I still belive my predictions will be 90% accurate.
If you got anyquestion or want to tell me how bad my english is (I already know it) feel free to write a comment.
*Textures*
Important for the quality of you cockpit. Will require moderate VRam (The storage your Graphics card has for textures)
Overall recommended to put it on the highest setting
*Terrain Textures*
Obvious
Will require lots of VRam. Not worth it if you dont have a lot of VRam, since you will be looking into the sky most of the time.
*Civ. Traffic*
Civilian Traffic
Mostly more work for you processor. Maybe important if you want to shoot cinematics
*Water*
Processing intensive
Medium settings usually is the best
*Visib. Range*
Very important
Determines how much of the world is rendered.
Highest settings if possible
*Heat blurr*
Not so important
Only use it in cinematics
*Shadows*
Determines how sharp the shadows do look.
Very important aspect of your experience
Highest settings recommended
*Resolution*
Chose the highest resolution possible. 1920*1080 recommended for weaker pcs
If you do have a WQHD Monitor it would be best to lower some settings in order to ramp your resolution up.
*Cockpit Displays*
Down to personal preference
*MSAA*
Renderes the image at a higher resolution, to scale it down.
This softens the edges
The higher the better
16X is recommended if your resolution is lower then 1920*1080. If its higher turn it off.
Dont sacrifice shadows or textures.
*Depth of field*
No
*Lens effects*
Yes
Expandet it a bit
*Grass*
Decides how many sprites (textures) are visible on the screen. Absolutely useless...
Very performance hungry.
If you have bad performance its best to reduce this instead of textures, MSAA etc.
*Trees*
Just like the grass thingy, but it actually has an impact, besides bad fps
Bit more iportant than grass, but still negligible
*Preeload radius*
The radius, at which your PC already loads the images, to reduce stuttering and plopping
If your hardware isnt strong enough it causes stuttering itself.
Only for powerfull rigs
*Anisotrophic filtering*
Very important
Textures usually get distorted if you viw them at an angle
This prevents that and is therefore the second most important setting
Medium impact on performance
*Global ilumination*
Calculates reflections and refractions
Direct lighting calculates the rays from a light scource and how they hit an object
Global ilumination calculates how the light bounces of surfaces and how different objects iluminate others
ok but i have a rtx 2080 ti and a i9 7920x can i run it at max settings?
@@mylifeonthepeninsula9521 No, absolutly not! First of all I recommend two gtx 560ti's in crossfire. Next thing you'll needn is a bit more ram. downloadmoreram.com/ is a great and easy to use website for every gaming enthusiast. Last but not least, is the CPU. Multi-core technology is absolutely overrated, so you'd best go with an intel pentium 4. Mark my words, Single-core will have its comeback. If you've bought all this stuff the most impertant thing to do is building it into your tower. If you dont know the ins and outs I can't recommend The Verge's video enough: m.ua-cam.com/video/6_6hGc1A3Tk/v-deo.html
Have fun with the game and fly safe
(Warning!!! This is a joke and literally the worst equip you can buy.)

@@mylifeonthepeninsula9521 Take this you filthy troll :D
Very informative, thank you
I have a new gaming pc. And I love DCS WORLD. I LOVE AIRPLANES ALL TYPES FROM EVERY COUNTRY!
I got a I5-6500, 16 gb ram, gtx 1060 6gb, runs 70s to lower 100s on high settings . Great experience. Was able to run 4K but lower 30s and 40s
It's "an" in front of vowels :)
good video cap, I would love a vid on proper radio communication, IE how to request landing, bogey dope, general communication, that type of stuff. I have around 100 hours in the game and still don't know how to communicate well, which has been sorta keeping me from multiplayer, and there arent a lot of resources on comms so it's hard to learn. thanks!
Roger mr Scorpion
Nanne118 i agree with this i also wish to see videos for fixes when the install breaks and other bugs preventing playing or making it harder to play from bugs
yup very good thinking Nanne, let me think of how to do this best. It could also save me a hell-ova-lot-of-work lol
Also DCS WORLD MUST BE STARTED FROM STEAM. AND YOU USE DISCORD TO CHAT WITH OTHER PLAYERS. AND YOU MUST HAVE FIOS GIGBIT CAT 8 ROUTER.
I have DCS installed on Steam, and I cant play on multiplayer. Do I need to download the website to play on multiplayer in the Steam version?
I don’t know if anyone will see this but I just bought a key for the F-18 but then found out that steam doesn’t take them. Does this version take keys of G2A?
to play the hornet you need to install the non-Steam DCS. Steam no longer supported by DCS. this is what you asked?
When i downloaded the game there was a DCS blue icon. There wasn't a DCS grey 2.5 icon and when i open it it crashes. can someone pls help me? pls
Ali Saain I believe the grey version is the steam download
@@jacobsmith4453 ok, thanks for the info
Finally have a PC strong enough to run these kinds of games and id love to turn that childhood sense of thrill I got from ace combat back in the day to something a "tad more realistic". These videos are very helpful
Great video, I bought the Syrian map and I don't know how to change the old map in mission editor.
I will appreciate if you can tell me.
Thanks!
Well Done & Thank you Cap....... Just about to get into DCS but I need to spend some money ..
Question: The multiplayer numbers seem quite low atm. Are most people still playing the older version or what?
I remember starting out in DCS, one trick I found was to copy down all the steps in each training mission in a notebook and break them down into sections, which is really useful for reference while in a server or campaign
just got started, thx for videos
also what is a big problem with dcs is the insane prices on planes also a reason why a lot off people dont play it
I don;t know. It's just the way it is. The FC3 planes are still pretty cheap.
Idd. 2000+ euro for eveything is INSANE! 60 euro for ONE fucking plane, that's the price of a FULL game.... I just fly the su-25t.
Dragonmoth ever heard of War Thunder?
i loved flying planes in bf1 so i cant wait to try out DCS.
dat Pianoguy ever so slightly different
@@themadpyro8560 tried it. turned out my computer cant handle it :^) im currently using a graphics card that i fixed by baking it for half an hour in an oven so yea. thats that
Im currently having issues with my HOTAS. My stitch works however my throttle won’t function at all. Once I move the throatier for more engine power my stick moves instead (in-game stick not my actual HOTAS stick)
Hey cap, I have a similar icon but it's blue saying 'DCS updater', is it normal, it also says 'dowloading update'? (This is my first time downloading a PC game) :)
Yup all sounds normal. I use the DCS Updater to play game sometimes.
@@grimreapers okay thanks :)
It is V.R. READY TOO!
I want to enter the DCS world, but never played any combat game this intense. Can you suggest some resources or documentation where I can learn the basics of air combat, maneuverings and associated stuff?
download DCS learn to use the free plane, we have 20 tutorials on it. If you like it then you will slowly grow from there.
>installs dcs
>buys all modules
>doesnt learn annything
>crashes every plane
>doesnt elaborate
>leaves
hello, please can you show me how to get different datas (speed, postion, roll, pitch, yaw ..) from mission editior?? thank you
Hi, does DCS have any interactive cockpit aircraft? Because it seems like every single procedure is done from the keyboard
The expensive modules have fully interactive cockpits, while the cheaper ones only have some cockpit functions modeled
I think I will love DCS WORLD.
You guys get me excited about DCS World. Thanks for posting because I was literally watching these videos recently and was wondering to myself, "why don't I get in this game?"
Pleasure
Was thinking of getting this, if only to become cannon fodder for the Reapers to breeze through, but I expect it would kill my computer.
"in fact it wont be, it will be 3, 3.5, 4 something like that" im here literally to the day lol 5/22/2021 version 2.7 pepehands
Hi so it means to start now we need to download 2.7 file??
I had some big problems for a month Ago . I could not change bak THE setup from split monitors to One monitor. I try with uninstal THE game. At THE END i did remove some config files. It's Strange THE game do not reset THE setup after uninstal THE game.
This is true for most programs. You have to delete user data in the user folder to get rid of configurations.
After hours of torrenting. Here I am again 😂
I got like so close to downloading it. (Wifi goes out) Need to do download again from start.
Thank you
It´s the most difficult game to play, I have not yet had any success setting up my X52 Pro, it´s so difficult. Watching YT videoes on how to, and I can´t find what they are saying when using the search function under "control".......jesus it´s tuff.
I really would like to know which joystick works for this game and more important how to set it up.
I do have some vids, Search for instance "grim reapers harrier setting controls"
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Pleasure
Great "how to" vid. Cap, I'm sure it will help a few beginners out.
thx
That's... Why I'm here
Bro downloading's the worst part. I mean there should be a way in which you first download the basic game and then it downloads everything extra.
Thank you so much for this. I knew nothing about it and very quickly you explained how it's basically just an empty shell waiting for modules. LOLOLOL Once I heard that I started the uninstall instantly. I absolutely can't afford that stuff and had no idea that much went into this game. I have never seen a review or video from anywhere about this game. Weird.
Thank You Great Video
I don't have a lap top as I'm quite happy with my two iPads. Is it feasible to play this thru my PlayStation ? Really enjoy the missions.
Gaming PC only Sir
