The new Jeongjo the Great that's under construction will have even larger VLS cells that can accommodate ship-launched ballistic missiles and a hypersonic anti-ship missile they have under development. The Koreans have been pouring money into missile development recently and it should be interesting to see how it all turns out
There’s also a good chance that a group of LRASM equipped B-1Bs from Minot could get into theater in time. B1s are about 16 hours from Guam, not including arming time, whereas a Chinese task force from the Celebes Sea traveling 35 knots could get to striking distance of Guam after 30 hours.
Thanks for the battle Cap. Also, per your comment on the ships not firing at F-35. Per the Command: Modern Operations sim/game, where it appears stealth is modeled much more accurately than in DCS, this is actually pretty accurate, where the F-35 should be able to fly extremely close to Chinese ships without a high quality weapons lock.
What do you know about Chinese radars? Or you think that stealth works for ALL radars in all wavelengths? China also has AWACS up, so they have multiple radars. Plus once you fire a rocket, or open you bomb-bay, or fire gun your begin to emit infrared and they can VISIBLY see you. And yet not even CWIS is firing. Its bs
I find it weird that F35s were getting within CWIS range of chinese ships and weren't being shot at. I think the mk1 eyeball can detect and track them at that range.
Despawn and respawn the AEGIS ships in between the waves of missiles if they are going to keep just breaking after the first missile wave until they randomly reset later.
Tthe interceptors themselves can fall down, explode and damage. DCS doesn't model it, but hypersonic missiles even if they intercepted, would still fly towads the target due to inertia. So in DCS you can intercept hypersonic 10 meters above the carrier and the hypersonic will just disappear into thin air, but IRL, even exploded or damaged, the missile or its remains will continue to fly on its trajectory and impact the shi
That's true, I wonder what the true minimum intercept range is? I feel like the missile works against itself a lot being hypersonic so I imagine even a glancing blow will cause it to disintegrate from its own force but within a mile or two those fragments will cause a lot of issues for the electronics.
The flight III Arleigh Burke destroyers only have one CIWS on the rear. For some stupid reason a few years ago they stopped adding two CIWS per destroyer and now only install one.
Flight of the old dog version of this fight. Arrives in time to help intercept second wave of cruise missiles. B-52 loaded with JTAM firing on datalink, or APG-79 if someone has done the mods. B1-R would work for the purposes of the video, kinematics won't matter much for a missile truck.
After destroying ships, YJ-21 could be targeted to hit the on-shore targets. Also - why Type-055 didn't fire on the F-35s that were flying very low and close to them?
even assuming there were no YJ21s left there were tons of YJ18s and CJ10s on the ships remaining which could have finished off both bases. If the chinese side had a human admiral the outcome would have been very different.

I don't know for sure, but I would wager there's a lot more than 1x Patriot battery on Guam. Isn't it some of the most heavily defended airspace in the world?
I like it when chaos happens, and you do not get the planned result. Things happen in war. It is more realistic to see how America does after being punched in the mouth versus simply stealth-killing everything from BVR.
It appears the blue is always playing defense, not seek and destroy. AWACS up with fighter support, seeking out the bombers before they launch or the carrier before they launch.

An idea for cap. "Following the failed attempt to completely remove the US Presence from Guam, the Chinese fleet sails back to resupply, presumably to return and finish the job. A US Task Force in the area is attempting to intercept the low-in-ammunition and jets fleet while they're still in port and in an attempt of proportional response wishing to try and inflict as much damage to the red fleet as possible in a hit-and-run counter attack." US Fleet is freshly armed but cant afford to waste all their ammunition since they are technically also in Chinese held waters, somewhere in the pacific, so for the scenario they'll have only half or 2/3rds ammo, which they are willing to allocate while keeping some in the back for defence. You can throw in some Japanese and Australian navy vessels in there for the sake of variety should you wish to do so. The red destroyers haven't had too much time to resupply so they also won't have too much ammo, either defensive or offensive, but they will be backed by ground based AA systems. Chinese carrier has not yet gotten their new air wing, save for a couple pilots who survived the previous engagements, barely enough for a mixed squadron. In the meantime, a couple minutes into the fight, a flight of Chinese stealth aircraft arrives to help intercept the attacking US force, consisting of F35s and F/A18s anti shippers while trailing behind said J20s/J35s is two flights of J11s hoping to sink the US squadron, or at the very least make it as pyrrhic of a victory it can be. You can also include some ground based ballistic missiles in your scenario, which you would simulate with them spawning in mid-air on the border of the map. Should make for a good fight!
@@cyrusjalali1571 DCS really gimps ballistic missiles hence why the YJ-21's come in at such a flat angle so it would be pretty useless ingame. This also causes issues with the SM-3
This might sound like a stupid question but why are SM-3 and SM-6 missiles always fired only from land? Those things are fired from tubes on destroyers like the Arleigh Burkes, but those ships have limited capacity. Now if you wanted to defend and island would a complete 'array' of SM-3 and SM-6 missile tubes not make much more sense to an island that has like a military harbor, like Guam? I know they use Patriot's on land, but those SM-3's and SM-6's missiles are vary capable of intercepting any hostile missile.
I think its fair to boost the radar ranges on warships because they are a hell of alot more powerful than what can be fitted on a fighter. Realistically, if F35s can only be detected at 20 miles by fighters, they should be detectable at 30-40 miles by a warship.
Hey Cap, you should be making the following changes: 1. China would be fielding the PL-17 or PL-XX missile by 2026 which would be more capable than the PL-15 with a better seeker. 2. YJ-21s can also be carried by the Type-052Ds since both the 55 and 52D share the same VLS System. This VLS also allows both to quad pack an ESSM type missile so that would really increase their defensive capability.

I'll say it again, the air defenses the US is currently installing on Guam will make it the single most heavily defended site on Earth. Both sides know its importance, and the US is planning appropriately. Real Guam will have like 20 individual air defense sites by 2026. I understand you want the battles to be a challenge, but just 1 Patriot site and 2 Burkes is pretty inaccurate. You've cut the attack the Chinese would likely send to about 1/4, so i think it makes sense to cut the US defenses by the same amount. There should be at least 5 mid or long range air defense sites.
If I were you I'd put the tracers back on CIWS, same reason you have trails on missiles that wouldn't really have them, so we can see and so its more cinematic.

If real war acts anything at all like these simulations, it would make sense to have some initial missiles that can fly right at the edge of the enemy range and somehow survive for a few minutes. We've already seen Russia demonstrate its ability to shoot down its own aircraft by mistake. Imagine if they saw a swarm of "their own" coming towards them. Any chance of doing this senerio with a forward deployed group of B-52s, or B-1Bs to Guam? I just thought of something. You know the loyal wingman concept? Kind of an evolution of the Arsenal Ship concept.
Love the video Cap, but just as a note, the CJ-10 can only reach halfway to Guam from mainland China. The CJ-10 goes a little less than a thousand miles and Guam is 1900+ miles away for their closest base... and that path is over Taiwan which could be problematic.
@@hughmungus2760 he clearly stated they were launched for China's mainland and I'm just noting that they couldn't be launched from there. You are absolutely correct that around 6 of the PLA's Type 093 subs could launch them (but only around 36 in a volley with a slow reload time). They could also launch CJ-20s from H-6 bombers but that requires they fly unhindered more than a thousand miles into the Pacific in very large numbers.
You are correct, but when I asked Cap to make the scenario I asked him to simulate missiles inbound from the Chinese mainland. China could easily launch multiple slavos of long range ballistic missiles and possibly utilize their long range bombers. DCS doesn't have any usable ballistic missiles that can be used, so he had to substitute it with cruise missiles in game. I had originally asked him to do two waves of missiles (Wave 1 - Ballistic missiles and Wave 2 - long range cruise missiles launched from long range bombers). Cap explained to me he couldn't do that within DCS - that is why he used these missiles to simulate.
The dcs ballistic missile and anti-ballistic missile performance is very strange. The reality is that the yj21 is likely to attack with a spiral trajectory, the essm missile is almost impossible to intercept, and in reality if a yj21 is so close to an American warship, there is basically nothing that can stop it
2 LCS 400 meters from the shore instead of each Burke, that could transit point defenses at 40knots, each with sea-ram and some amount of S-A defense. That's 46mph rated on an island 30 miles long, with targets the massive distance of about 20 miles away from each other. I suppose that's not survivable.
Why do stealth planes keep charging in while they could keep on the perimeter of the enemy range firing missiles? That is, with the greater radar sensitivity.
You're only talking about a 4 -mile difference in detection range between the F-35 and J-35. That's an easy mistake for a pilot at 600+ mph. Just 10seconds of inattention can bring a F-35 pilot well within detection range of a J-35.
I would like to see a situation where ships have to shoot their main cannons and guns to deal with the enemies instead (or in addition to missiles). I loved the simulation where a large group of small boats coming at a carrier and single ship has to deal with them. Love your videos!
Problem: As stated in the video, the Arleigh Burkes cannot fire their main guns (5" x 54) at missiles. Main guns (in game) can only be fired at aircraft.
Yeah I would be cooler if they could shoot down missiles with their guns, that would be simply more guns, guns, guns! action. What I meant with that comment was; in the future project I would like to see another simulation video where ships such as Arleigh Burke class or Ticonderoga class have to use their main guns, bushmasters and CIWS to accomplish the mission. For example, you already have a video where Arleigh Burkes (and AH-64 Apaches) try to protect a light US carrier from Iranian gunboat swarm. If I were to suggest an example; A small group of US ships from US Naval base of Sasebo, Japan, try to protect themselves from a large Chinese gunboat swarm in East China sea (as a Japanese guy, I do NOT hate China nor Chinese people, but I just came up with it)@@grimreapers

Why exactly do you want them to attempt and every time fail to accurately model any US weapon? Genuinely curious. Stuff like t this does more harm than good
@@coreyleander7911 Because it would change how some missions are generally carried out as it is a air to ground missile that can fulfil most rolls and be held internally. It is the first missile to play to the strengths of the F-35 as it has been developed especially for gen 5/6 aircraft!

Just a thought, in 2026 the USN still has a massive fleet of 4th gen F-18s. If you're going to mix J-35 and J-15 in the fight, then the US side should mix F-35 and F-18. It can't be all F-35.

I understand making skill level equal to make it even and give both sides a good chance but realistically the Chinese get nowhere near the seat/flight time of American and British pilots. They should be set to one skill level below at least for realism purposes. It is simply not realistic to make them equal in terms of skill. The same principal applies to the Chinese running carrier ops with their navy
actually Binkov did a video on flight hours, the average chinese fighter pilot today gets about as much as US fighter pilots. In the past it was limited because of lack of relevant airframes but now china is building out its fighter fleet so much that it has no issues with airframe availability/

so out of curiosity, with stealth lowering the engagement distances, why is it that they decided to remove the internal gun? Did it mess with stealth or did they just think they didn't need it
With the US at least, where only the USAF model has a gun, it's to save weight for naval operations or weight and space for SVTOL operations. There's also been the debate since Vietnam with designers trying to get rid of the gun for more advanced tech and using the argument that all engagements should be at distance. For stealth desgns in particular, I don't think these earlier gens of stealth were designed to fight against other stealth jets, so the US is basically imagining their stealth jets against 4th gen and 4.5 gen and being able to engage at distance, and/or seeing the battle has being lost if they are within guns range regardless of their opponent, as even F-35 warfare is set for a future using loyal wingman at the front line and not putting their own airframe at risk.

Fantastic video. Good fight. Thanks a ton to you and all the pilots for the work and time they put in!
Despawn and respawn the AEGIS ships in between the waves of missiles if they are going to keep just breaking after the first missile wave until they randomly reset later.
I've found that spawning ships into multiplayer sometimes bugs them and they can't fire so don't do it anymore.
Love ya Cap! We both have the same addiction to the smashy smashy BOOM BOOM! 😊😊😊😊😊
Yeh I thought that when watching also. Reminds me of the Scuds being intercepted in 1991 but not actually stopped.

Glad you did this again sooner rather than later.
I would love that BUT currently YJ-21 can only hit naval assets in game.

With this number of missiles, the navy can as well order some more CIWS (much like the added AAA on ships in WWII).

Cool video, great senario imo. Love those Type 55 destroyers.
I appreciate the unscripted battles. Either side losing in an understandable way isn't "annoying", I think people are annoyed when bugs are the reason "their" side loses, which seems to be happening to the Americans more lately, thus, more angry Americans.
14:19 as a grunt, that’s terrifying!!! Same with being on a ship while it’s under attack. I’m just cargo on a ship. I’d much rather face a tank or an attack helicopter on the ground. So happy I was born before drone warfare.
An idea for cap.
"Following the failed attempt to completely remove the US Presence from Guam, the Chinese fleet sails back to resupply, presumably to return and finish the job. A US Task Force in the area is attempting to intercept the low-in-ammunition and jets fleet while they're still in port and in an attempt of proportional response wishing to try and inflict as much damage to the red fleet as possible in a hit-and-run counter attack."
US Fleet is freshly armed but cant afford to waste all their ammunition since they are technically also in Chinese held waters, somewhere in the pacific, so for the scenario they'll have only half or 2/3rds ammo, which they are willing to allocate while keeping some in the back for defence.
Always good - thanks for the simulation of a possible threat from both sides 👌
You should try to add the THAAD system in game. Pretty sure the US has a THAAD battery in Guam.
i don't think CH has developed THAAD yet
I agree, I am pretty sure it is a pure dcs core game problem.
We've got them maxed out. Stuck now. I think we just have to put up with it.

Hey Cap, you should be making the following changes:
I am pretty sure PL-17 are only for awacs and such and can't fit in internal weapons bays, they are working on the PL-21, I haven't heard about the quad packed missiles for China, but that is all CH anyway.
@@gundamator4709 They are definitly working on a next generation AAM which will likely be inducted around the same time as AIM-260. The quad packed missile is FM-3000N.

Just a little info for you.

Hello cap I would like to ask you a question can you give the F 35 the penagrine
Will do at some point.
Yeh I was limited in the number/type of attack missiles, so I had to scale down Guam's defences to make a good battle of it.
@@grimreapers yeah, I just thought you scaled down the defenses a bit too much was all.
If I were you I'd put the tracers back on CIWS, same reason you have trails on missiles that wouldn't really have them, so we can see and so its more cinematic.

Wargame a massive small semisubmersivle drone fleet trying to attack guam. Launch a fleet of 80-100 of them from a mother ship. Have them carry 1-2 cruise missiles each to take out targets

Video idea: How effective would NASAMS be, if instead of the AMRAAM, there would be JTAMs? Range, PK etc…
The "AMRAAM-ER" fired by NASAMS isn't a true AMRAAM, but an ESSM body with an AMRAAM seeker head on it. The ESSM is larger than the AIM-260 so I'm guessing it has better range
@@jakevolpe I thought it would probably be at least slightly better than the AMRAAM-ER because of the lower drag in a two stage design. If real war acts anything at all like these simulations, it would make sense to have some initial missiles that can fly right at the edge of the enemy range and somehow survive for a few minutes. Maybe circle around their position and draw fire. The enemy will expend all it's SAMs trying to shoot them down and run out of ammo.
Then launch the second wave of real missiles against their ships.

Love the video Cap, but just as a note, the CJ-10 can only reach halfway to Guam from mainland China. The CJ-10 goes a little less than a thousand miles and Guam is 1900+ miles away for their closest base... and that path is over Taiwan which could be problematic.
they could have been launched by chinese submarines
