This is insane, I'm a f18c mechanic in the Marine Corps and this plane is spot on. Even the fire loops sounds the same as the real jet. Incredible work!
Audible tones even sound the same. I was a crew chief on Ospreys but they use the same mission computer and avionics. Never been in an F18 but since it has similar avionics it took me about 3 times going from cold to flight ready to commit it to memory. Very in-depth, brought back all sorts of fun memories lol
I have about 1500 hours in this aircraft. I'm absolutely amazed at the realism of this simulator. Spot on, even to the point of cycling the battery to quickly getting the aural tones on startup. Very impressive. I love this airplane......
My additional comment is that the aircraft actually will almost rotate for you. It gets very light at the nosewheel takeoff speed. The Super Hornet, however, doesn't like to get airborne, you have to force her to go flying.
I was a F/A-18C Engine Mechanic/Plane Captain with VMFA-312 in the mid 90's. I was turn qual'd meaning I could go out and do both low and high powered maintenance turns. This video brings back a lot of memories and is spot on. Thanks for posting.
Like prolly he could fly the machine and see if it needs maintenances or something I'm guessing he's a fighter pilot but more of a fighter jets mechanic some mechanics are pilots cause they have to know how to fly it to hear it actually run and see everything live cause a pilot can only explain so much if something's wrong with it like car mechanics do they take ur car for a lil spin

I used to play that game a lot - until somehow my opponents where able to get missile lock on me so far before I could see them on radar etc that I figured they must have been using some sort of hack and then it wasn't fun anymore. When I first got X-Plane, I missed the carrier landing so many times until I found a copy of the POH and realized that starting the SIM on approach with the SIM's default loadout, mainly fuel, made me too heavy to slow down enough to safely land without dropping like a stone. Back in the late 90s and early aughties Jane's was the go to for military realism. I still have fond memories of flying my Apache NOE while popping up over a ridge to rain hellfires on the unsuspecting tank convoy, dropping back down so they can't pick me up on radar, and hi tailing it back to base :). Best game of the century. Up until DCS World came out. I tried the first DCS:Blackshark back in the day and was impressed with the realism. It wasn't quite Jane's level at that time. Then DCS:World comes out and shattered expectations. Each new DLC they release is better than the last. I bought the KA-50 first (of course), then the Harrier, then the A-10C, a couple of other randos (F5e and Huey), and finally wound up with the F18 and couldn't be happier. I'm looking at picking up the F-14 from Heatblur Simulations on the next Steam sale :P I'm more familiar with the AWG-9 than the F18 suite. I was an AT in the Navy during the 80s when the Tomcat was still the big kid on the block and there were very few '18 squadrons around at the time, so I have a special place in my heart for the Tomcat.
Wags, @13:58, the rudder check showed 15 degrees deflection, not 30. That is because your flaps switch was in Auto. If you move the flaps switch to half (or Full), you should get 30 degrees. You can see the deflection is 30 on the left DDI after the start of the first engine with the flaps switch in the full position. Also the flight manual says to move the throttle to idle at 15% for engine start - Page III-7-16 of A1-F18AC-NFM-000 . Otherwise a good basic run down for what is shaping up to be the most awesome module ever.
This was super cool to see. I used to be able to run these up for high-power turns in VMFA-314. Only correction on your startup is the air turbine starter is run off the APU to turn the motors over for starting and not the driveshaft. The driveshaft on the motor then turns the AMAD for the all the accessories. Super fun to watch.
I'm quite sure Finnish AF doesn't have drogue chutes. They use tailhooks though. You must be thinking about Norwegian AF. They have chutes in F-16 and will have them in F-35 also. Bases in Norway are near ocean and runways often get icy.

Data for the test is on the tape. The reason this is not hard coded on a chip is to allow for updates to the system. All my respect to the pilots AND flight crews and tech's etc. I always thought you just turn the key & off ya go...LOL! Amazing what people take for granted when they see what it takes to fly these beasts.
That is what I think too. However, F18 is a warplane. Every single piece of equipment is not manufacture by the same group of people/company. For this one reason, many of this indicators have certain liability requirements for calibration requirements. For example, most NATOPS require the calibration setting for the altimeter to be set for zero to represent sea level. The earth level is not zero. Death Valley California, USA is below sea level. Another example F18 can be land based at a different elevation. In short, a lot of displays can be put on one screen like your computer running DCS. Space X dragon capsule shows an evolution of the cockpit since most of the data/Health & Status information can be transmitted off the capsule in real time.
F-18 is the first module I bought. I will buy F-16, Av8b and maps when STEAM has a sale. It takes a long time to get familiar with the F-18, but once you do, you’ll get real good with the game.

@@brettcoyle2399 All ww2 planes
Vape Clouds901 it’s free to play so try it out and if you don’t like it there’s no consequences
Thanks a lot Matt, you teach as if you've put some time in on this plane. Very much apricated.
I hope Thrustmaster creates a replica joystick for the f18 as well. I will gladly spend another 500 dollars 😆
Dude that was awesome I loved watching this video and going through the preflight. There is so much to learn and get into. Lots of abbreviations to look up now too! 👍🏼✌🏼
Please turn down the TACAN Ident volume after you've tuned and ident'd the aid.. **TRIGGERED**
That's one good and fun way to blow your instructor ear drums out. Especially with the horrific NDB static lol.
“Straight forward and simple” Right, LoL! Amazing aircraft sim, perfection.
Bloop
I am not a huge fan of the "Bitchin' Betty" voice in the hornet... I understand they needed a voice irritating in order to make the pilot react, but it is kinda too anyoning haha (the module looks fantastic and i cant wait to fly in the new version of DCS, aweseom job).
You can turn her down via the intercom panel.
I think she is part of the beast so I'll keep it as it should be; but I think they went too irritating there compare to other "aicraft voices" :p !
I actually prefer her voice to the usual one.
Captn Courget I guess that's why she's called Bitchin' Betty haha
Captn Courget I like the one in he eagle but that's not the actual voice. They certainly did a bang up job with this hornet
Can't wait to get my hands on it!!! It is such a beautiful aircraft...
release please!
Marine Corps Plane Captain on these birds, thanks for the flashback! Way cool!
Ahhhh release the early access please
Interesting. You know how excited you are, when you think "Oh no, just continue a little bit with flying" at the end of the video ;)
If it takes that much time to take off. The enemy will have bomb the Hell of the Airfield ...something is wrong!
I've never heard of this flight sim before, but now I'm very interested in it. Looks very impressive that's for sure.
This is awesome, Matt! Thanks for making this video. Day one buy!
Awesome vid on the FA/18 hornet! Thanks!
This is really cool stuff sir. I love it! Thanks sir. I'm gonna play this one over n over.👍👍
Great job on the video Wags, can't wait to see more.
Simply amazing, well done! Looking forward to it
WOW! Super Dope. I wish I would have had 20/20 vision, this is exactly what I would have done.
Dont forget about the taxi speed and taxi lines Matt! :) Cant wait 2.5 version to come!
That was real as it gets for sure.. Thank you.
F-18 is the first module I bought.
I will buy F-16, Av8b and maps when STEAM has a sale.
It takes a long time to get familiar with the F-18, but once you do, you’ll get real good with the game.
