LOL at all the people talking about how outdated the G wagon style is. They just dont get it. Its timeless and functional. The style is the point of it.
Functional??? It's so hard to open the back door to put my groceries, no space either. I love the boxy shape, though.
You're right!. But that is also a sad commentary on what the G- Class is today. It is really a product marketed on prestige and image not like the original model in the late '70s which was a very basic utility vehicle for serious off-roading. I will wait to see what the new Land-Rover Defender is like - I hope it isn't turned into a superficial luxury toy like what Mercedes has done to the beloved Geländewagen.

Its not a classic design. The Dodge Challenger has a classic design. The G Wagen is still using the same body from 40yrs ago with modern stuff slapped on.
Yes, at 22 mins I am still watching this engaging, informative presentation. This is far better than Clarkson-type motorcar programmes, where the ego of the presenter is half or more of the appeal of the show.

Central camera position: good, when you're able! 50:16 very good images of mirrors, and the demo of BLIS - well done. Diff-lock button press 'delay' was interesting! For an off-roader, much prefer a softer, comfier ride, and just slow down for corners and co-drivers! Liked the blue car with the bright interior. Cheers.

I like the camera mounted on the sun roof/panoramic roof (preferably as close to your head as possible without disturbing you or the view of the other camera). it gives us a better perspective of the cabin, and the feeling that we are driving the car ourselves. And please turn it as straight forward as possible without compromising the visibility of the whole dash. I hope it's not too much to ask, but I feel it is the best experience for us as viewers. p.s. I love your reviews Thomas.

The Thomas blue is the best looking color on cars.
My most fave dream SUV, now with the best ergonomic dash/cabin atmosphere of the series. Wind noise definitely has increased ( 31:11 ) the moment you passed the big semi trailer but surely that's the least gripe when you're sitting in one of the best, properly capable SUV out there. Very relaxed and a fine review there Thomas.

Drove this recently it's a great truck SUV hybrid that is very comfortable even on rough roads, great all around car

SnookerQtr honestly if you could even afford these SUV’s, price likely isn’t an important factor in choosing a model. they’re all still well over $150K.

I love the G63, but the panamericana grille does not fit to this car. The reason is simple. The vertical lines gain an optical effect that makes the grille look like slimmer. This looks terrible, also on the new C63 Coupe. The only car where the pana grille fits is the GT because it gots a very wide grille. Am I the only one who noted this design mistake?

True, panamericana grill steals the show from G-Class. If anyone loves AMG, they can enjoy performance dynamics in E63s AMG (Estate/Coupe/Sedan) & still crave for G-Class, then G500 is the way to go instead of G63, as Thomas well mentioned that off-road capability of G500 being greater than G63 AMG.

"Retaining characteristic shape, and All-New versus Product Update!" Jeep has kept their 'heritage' with the all-new 2019 Wrangler. Daimler-Benz has kept their 'heritage' with the all new 2019 G-Wagen. Toyota has kept its heritage with the 2019 Land Cruiser? Land Rover hasn't kept its 'heritage' by ditching the Defender! Hard luck Land Rover. Excellent review Thomas.

Jaguar/Land Rover missed a trick, they didn't invest any money in the Defender's long and valuable history, didn't improve the recent ones enough (unlike Jeep & Mercedes), and thus may not have been able to get away with claiming a "modern" Defender was just "importantly retaining its characteristic shape", but built and equipped like the new Magna-Steyr G-Class, was just a "product update"...
Land Rover said they couldn't get Defender through safety regs - airbags, ABS, ESP, crash tests - so had to stop production.
Range Rover doesn't belong to 70 interior and exterior boring design range rover is about living in 2018♥️♥️ not 70s

Middle mounted camera's absolutely preferred for better exposure and seeing what's the speed or how does it look like as a driver.
Just test drove G63 in the race track which totally changed my mind. There was a big question in my mind for a while asking why do they drive this kind of car. But everything changed when I drove it myself. You feel like a king on the road because you're driving king of cars!! or maybe G class was firstly designed by Mercedes for Shah of Iran, King of Persia in 1970s (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_G-Class ). I really loved the seat lumbar supports when turning fast in the corners. The acceleration sound is a deep enjoyment satisfying me of driving this tank. It is a perfect match for my personality. The feeling is far different than driving other cars. Absolutely considered as the next car.

Being salomonic, I'd say this setup is perfect for big offroaders and SUV's whilst the other one suits sportier cars better.

Thomas, use the camera mounted on the roof more, it gives a better overview of the front interior and the overall road view. How keep the sideview cameras also, it's good to have them too. I love your car reviews and absolutely adore German cars and the immaculate engineering that goes with them. Excellent built quality too. Good one Thomas!!!

Ordered the G63, the almighty mystic cube on wheels. I totally dislike Edition1 tacky variants though. As for rivals, to me the closest would be the new Jeep Wrangler only at a more affordable level of course. And obviously will take it offroad, with three differential locks at hand it's mandatory despite the 21" wheels ;)

i actually am liking the front of the car but the way they have rounded the windows and the doors makes it look cheaper to me, i think it would have looked better if they kept last years doors

Hey Thomas, insgesamt ein wirklich gutes Video und besonders die Tiefe mit der ihr die Reviews macht ist wirklich hervorragend. Für meinen Geschmack wäre jedoch ein anderes Musikgenre passender, ich finde zwischendurch nervt die Musik dann doch ein wenig, da sie die Aufmerksamkeit vom Optischen in Richtung des Akustischen verzerrt. Allerdings kann es sein, dass auch nur ich es so sehe. Grüße Dorian

The g63 looks more aggressive. That’s the only useable benefits. The classic look is not only for the style, but also very durable. Knowing you’re not gonna get dent and scratches in a very tight parking spot. It will hit the rubber door trim or the size step bar. I think that’s a very satisfying feeling.

G55 owner here. I'd take the G500 over the G63 this time as it's basically the same car with a few difference. the previous generation AMG was way more bespoke.
