At 100km/hr on a flat highway, the G400D returns 7.5 - 7.8 L/100kms, far better than Thomas' experience with the G 350D at around 12 L/100km. More power and torque as well as far better fuel economy! Very pleased owner.
my G400d gets 10.5 ltr/100km at 130 km/h with semi offroad tires.
How does it sound? Just can't find some original sound from the G with diesel engine in it.
the G400d is nothing more than an uptuned 350d, a good remap can improve the fuel economy and also increase the power and torque!
The camera angles and the editing of the video are interesting--well done.
👍
Great Driving Lounge. You were honoured to try Timmerlsjoch in winter. As you said at 25:05, on snow/ice, going down hill is the harder part, where a light weight car is easier; heavyweight is a disadvantage! But a narrower width than normal is better for driving between trees (35:09)! Many thanks Thomas and Team for such a good production, and all the concise and politely presented information. Great videos. Don't change! We car enthusiasts are very lucky to get this content from your channel.
thanks so much! have a good holiday season - we will keep u entertained also during that :)
yes, very helpful review, i love it as well.
I have just taken delivery of the G 400D. After Thomas' comments about the 350D's fuel economy I was a bit worried. I am pleased to say that my 400D is quite good in fuel economy for such a large heavy vehicle. In urban driving around Canberra ACT Australia, I get around 9.5 - 9.8 L/100kms. Because we r in lockdown I cannot test it for highway driving. I am pleasantly surprised especially after Thomas' 350D review. the 400D is not as good as my GLE 250D but that car was extraordinary. The G is MUCH more luxurious than my base Australian spec GLE 250D.
I’m looking at buying a G400….what’s your overall feedback on quality, comfort and reliability?
Thanks….from Brisbane
Best car review I have ever seen. Comprehensive, concise, beautifully filmed and narrated. Thank you, regards from Scotland.
thanks!! Please subscribe and recommend =)
I've never heard the seats described as "voluminous" haha. Great work tho!
Perfect color on the G Class, Perfect AutoG, Perfect Thomas! Cheers!!
Thomas , I like your car channel very much.. You are a very warm and friendly person in youtube in those car channels.. I wish success to you Thomas:)
Thanks 🙏 please recommend us :)
Yay thomas is back!! great video as always guys, keep up the good work!
One of the best G Class reviews yet. Thanks!
Thx pls share!
A very comprehensive review as always..great job
I drove the old g-klass as a soldier. I'm 195 cm tall, and I could barely fit behind the steering wheel. I'm glad there is more legroom ind the new version. Both sweater and car in Thomas blue - excellent :-)
😎
Steen D original was made to fit inside transport aircraft, hence their narrow/small dimensions.
@@curelable OK, thanks for the explanation.
The most iconic car design of all time, can't believe they decided it was good idea to use those mirrors
From 30:00 all I can see is white colour 😵😵😵😵
Hey guys its first time I came across your videos ...I absolutely loved it
One of the best review...keep going guys
Thanks keep joining!
Such a nice update to the G class. Interior looks beautiful 👍
Hey famous man
I am so glad that the famous Geländewagen continues ... as great looking as before and technically much improved and modern. Lets hope for another 40 years!!!
When you're stressed or need to relax, put on some headphones and let Thomas soothe your ruffled feathers.
Very detailed reviews. Brilliant scenery. No nonsense, influencer type bullshit.
Just another quality video.
Well done.
Haha, so true. I use his videos to fall asleep sometimes. They are so calming.
Great automotive enthusiast review from Thomas !

What an amazing vehicle. Thanks for a great and informative review. Keep it up!
👌👌
Thank you for the very professionnal job and the other great reviews..... Keep up with the Wonderful job Autogfühl team
Interested in seeing if sunroof tilted up improves the fuel economy at high speed.
Perhaps an OEM wind deflector mounted on bonnet could be the fix. Creating a pocket in front of the windshield.
MB could list it as part of highway or towing package.
Best G 350 test 👌🏻
Thanks 🙏
Finally a fitting engine for this fantastic car. I appreciate that Mercedes keeps this legend going and did such a great job with the upgrade but I don't like the way they market it as a luxury truck with nonsense AMG engines.
slaWterCH this truck needs a rugged diesel in the US. To bad Germans got caught gaming the EPA.
u nailed my plans ... now i am convinced that I need this for my explorations :D awesome video
Amazing review for an amazing amazing car by such an amazing guy named Thomas ,Who's fortunately working
for an amazing UA-cam channel named Autogefühl.Love you guys, best wishes and keep up the good work.

Friste rewinding of the new G Class dissel, Thanks and merry Christmas Thomas too you and your family and friends
Merry xmas!
I guess the accent is legit. Hilarious but legit. Great review in any event.
Very informative review!
thanks !!
Thanks for the detailed review. I was surprised at the high fuel consumption of the diesel. This makes the G63 seem like the sensible choice!
Have a good Christmas break.
merry xmas!
Happy Christmas Thomas and all the Autogefuhl family , Hope to see you all soon !!
merry xmas :)
great reviewThomas!!.. 👍
What a astonishing view!

@@papn123 Yep, quick typing.
Great video Thomas! New G is beast and with diesel it will have better price!
👌
which version is better between G500 and G400d?
comfort, soundproofing, consumption,...
What is your best chose in this segment Thomas?
What other cars are this segment? :)
@@autogefuehl I was asking about the luxury SUV sector in general. Thanks. Merry Christmas...

ah ok sure, you ll find plenty of other luxury SUV in this playlist:

Merry Christmas!

Thomas hi! Superb video. Did this vehicle have the optional special sound insulation glass?
thanks! Yes all test vehicles have that
Currently the only Mercedes made without a grumpy face and upside-down grille
s d Will be the only MB with a spare tire soon.
Great video!
Congratulations!
I have a suzuki vitara s, but I want a g class.
Always loved the G Wagon, great review and scenery 👍
What a stunning view! Enjoy!
Very good review. Keep up the good work!! And please in English. Greetz from The Netherlands.
Dank u wel!
Perfect review, thank you
Hey is there a 2020 or a 2021 version of the car? If so can you do a review on it?
Thanks a lot for all presentation! One question : is it still possible to mount 18” rims ? ( same question for the new 400 g d ?
Still never be as cool as the Unimog they make! Haha. So cool they’ve kept the design and it’s become retro.
.....and Thomas Blue !! Awesome
I prefer this over the gasoline models, this is the real G class tho i can't afford any of them
Hello, do you know when you will make review of the Mercedes G-clase G 400 d - edition STRONG THEN THE TIME ?
Great question!
I want to listen about it.g400 has 700 niuton.100 niuton more then g350d.This is the same V6 motor but I I think that this is diesel with turbo
@@dimitripkhaladze4277 v6 is gone....now is 6 in line...
Yeeee the 350D !! 👏👏👏👏
A G Wagon driven properly! So many people who buy these never take them off-road.

😎
Best journalist👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼🔥🔥🔥
appreciated !!
Great review Thomas. I really like the camera angle from the sunroof as this provides a great view. This is a very beautiful vehicle. Sadly, here in Canada the starting price for this vehicle is around $120,000.00 Canadian dollars (plus the many ridiculous taxes that come with this type of vehicle). Great job and keep up the great work! :)
Cheers m8!
This is my dream car, i drive a defender at moment and i'll keep it until i can afford this. Much prefer the more standard models compared to the amg.
I guess those who give cars to test, already know what colour to offer :)
What is the base price of the diesel
Sure looks good.
Looking forward to buying one if these , after my AMC stock goes crazy
Great, thanks Thomas.
appreciated!
Next to 911, my favorite German vehicle. Interior is beautiful but I noticed different gauges than I used to see on reviews, retro looking ones in yellow? I really like those.
Here for Thomas 😽👍🏻
Such a great review
Thomas, please use your sway to convince Mercedes to market this in the USA. ;). Love your videos !!
Can't believe we don't get the diesel version in North America but then again it's not surprising figuring most people that buy G wagons in North America are just buying them to show off rather than actually use them for any utilitarian purpose. In Australia and New Zealand you can get them with hard floors and no carpet.
#Autogefühl Any reviews on the new Skoda Scala? Because you guys are always at premiers, that's why I ask.
I'm really really interested in getting 1, great review buddy. Would you say that the G63 consumption is like Way more than the 350d? Also is it possible to have a G 350d, specced out exactly like the G63, for example pan Americana Grille, interior etc, maybe not the side exit exhaust cos engine is different to G63?
Thanks! Well we had high consumption figures with all engines in this vehicle...
Yes you can also get a AMG-Line (not identical to G63, but looks already sportier)
Confident in any corner. Of the earth, or the road.
A new independent double-wishbone front suspension, rigid rear axle and electric power steering sharpen on-road precision while enhancing its capability off-road and comfort anywhere. A multimode suspension offers adjustable damping.
Good review as usual
Do you think the fuel consumption computer is accurate as that's terrible. Would be interesting to have positive result. I used to fill up the tank run it right down then fill up again at the same pump and work out the mpg/lpk manually. You never know, it could even be worse then 12 lpk. Don't even want to think about that really.
Maybe Land Cruiser
You’re masacred the car. This was the last proper honestly built car. Now it’s like all other cars...disposable.
do you recommend the burmester sound system given that I am not a music listener? mainly I will be using the speakers for phone calls and listening to news
just for music
Great Review!
👍
I wonder what Thomas means by “other full size SUVs”. Would that be X5/GLE or X7/GLS?
Yes
I've never heard the seats described as "voluminous" haha. Great work tho!
👌
this car would look good with big meaty rubbers imo, better than with big rims little rubber.
not to mention much more comfort
Great 🤩
Wow 2020 already. You really passes all other reviewers
Model year automotive industry naming, they always name a year ahead (strange...)
Hey Thomas - can you recall if the 350d (in Thomas blue!) had a heated steering wheel?
Afaik not
I like how you match colour of your wardrobe with the colour of car, and review, of course. Btw. if i may suggest, please do a review of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross with a new diesel engine.
👌😎
Seen our generel eclipse cross review already?
love you G
Amazing SUV German engineering is just amazing 👏 🇩🇪
Maybe Toyota is better
What is the price of the diesel version?
Around 90k?
Thomas, will you drive the new Jeep Wrangler? Sadly, the G klasse is a bit out of my price range.
Yes very soon!
@@autogefuehl Looking forward to it!
I need this for winter please Santa. thx
Is the AMG version worth the extra money? Apart from the sound of course, the diesel seems just as capable.
Compare the amg version it is linked in the video description
here it is ua-cam.com/video/jr0mLKTQEqw/v-deo.html
@@autogefuehl aha, Vielen danke!!
I want this car sooo bad
I won't be getting a Geländewagen...It wouldn't fit in my garage! Maybe a Suzuki Jimny instead. Speaking of, are we going to see a full review of the Jimny Autogefuhl? I know you did a look at one during the Paris Motorshow but a full real world review with driving expereince would be good :)
Yes already scheduled one :)
Furious George had same concern. Also probably won’t fit in many parking garages.
My concern is that it wont fit on our budget
Strange manufacturers argument: I think rear mirrors are last in this car, that could help in aerodynamics if you really want to improve it :) Actually I don't get the purpose of this car, it's something to demonstrate, especially in those AMG and other hi-end versions...
Where does the exhaust come out?
Awesome Great day I'm very lucky tnq tnq tnq
Saludos thomas !!
"TGE TV" says the G350d has a softer suspension setup than the G63. Does the G500 have a harder suspension than the G350d, or is it just a question of rims and tires as you mention? Another question: do you think the Gwagen will require less maintenance and part replacements compared to modern SUVs like the GLE with air suspension?
G63 has the AMG setup of course
G500 and G350d have same setup.
And yes tyre choice is really crucial, did you watch full length? Because I covered that aspect
Maintenance: Those are technical really very different cars, hard to say
Yes, I watched full length and made note of your very true remarks about the winter tyres on 19’’ rims giving a much softer ride; I was just wondering if there could be a difference in suspension as well, for example if the V8 engine is heavier, or if Mercedes assumes that petrol customers will expect sportier handling.
Interesting point yeah, the lighter the engine, the better it should be as well
Tyres and rims won't stand up to true off road use. The biggest should have been 17 inch to take proper offroad tyres. Steel rims would also be stronger. Good engine but will it be relevant in 10 years when most eu countries will adopt electric vehicles for new cars?
I'm not a fan of how MB didn't feel it to be necessary to center the NAV display over the center console.
My old range sport is slightly heavier and with the same 3l diesel it does abot 7l/100km....wtf. I tell you what it is...They are not cheating emissions anymore and this is what you get- 5l more
.
You are right.V6 with 286 ps and 600 niuton.is not enough and eats 12 l ...
but There is a g400 with 700niuton. the same V6.It will eat 9 L.It is much better I think.
I think that 286 ps V6 isn't enough for this.Thats why you need 12 liter and more.
Very interesting is g400.It has the same V6 but 330 ps.700 niuton.
But I do t know if it will be enough for its weight.
The bes way is V8 diesel.without turbo.
But g500 has also 610 niuton ...How it works ...It is very interesting...
does the g class have a wireless phone charger??
G-wagon comes up in my head when someone mentions "quality German car manufacturing". Too bad it is almost the only one on the market from Germany.
It's not built in Germany
@@autogefuehl hahaha
I keep forgetting about that. :)
Yes, but it is not advertised as a Swiss car either ;)
Doesn`t it share the factory floors with Supra now?
Jokes aside, what I meant more precisely is that my memory about higher end German cars was these 20 y.o. models that populate Poland. The cars build in the late 80' were still in good shape and reliable many years after production. Now it changed. :(
This is the image that comes up to mind when seeing G-Wagon, now in Japan where I live. Solid vehicles that will work reliably after 20 years.
