Great smile! Nice reaction! I love seeing young people like you discover, appreciate and enjoy music that is truly worthwhile. There is still hope. Keep on rocking! 🤘
Not only is this one of the best songs of one of the best bands of all times, it's also one of their best if not THE best performance of one of the best guitar solos ever! What makes the Dire Straits so great, is how different they were. Mark Knopfler is an incredible musician, his way of playing the guitar and his singing are so perfect, it's just unreal! The other musicians are of course very talented too, and this combination makes them my favorite band of all times! It's so sad that I was born much too late to see them live, but the solo stuff Mark does is great too and I couldn't imagine a life without his music. I'm so glad my dad showed it to me 12 years ago...
I absolutely agree with you about the amazing drummer, he's a beast. Every time I watch this performance, I'm totally focused and blown away by his drumming. It's like he's possessed with the drum demons or something.
Absolutely wonderful reaction to all round sublime musicianship. Terry Williams is the drummer, Hal Lindes on rythm guitar, Alan Clark on piano, and John Ilsley on base. The lead singer and guitarist is Mark Knopfler who also wrote all of their songs. He is an absolutely wonderful storyteller as well as obviously a magician on guitar with the most unique sound. I might suggest you react to Telegraph Road from the same concert (Alchemy live). It's an absolute masterpiece and for me the greatest rock song ever written. Their performance of it is absolutely breathtaking and really showcases the outstanding musicianship of the whole band. Loved your reaction. Thank you and best wishes from the UK. Take care.
Dire Straits is an incredible band. They personify the old poem, “the woods are lovely, dark and deep.” Some other favorites are Romeo and Juliet, Tunnel of Love, Heavy Fuel and anything off of the Brothers in Arms album.
Yes. This live version never gets old. I'm so glad you said something about the drummer. They have them in the back but this guy was the heart beat . Money for nothing, should happen If you can.
Damn right. The talent, the musicianship. Insane performance. Start your Dire journey now. You will enjoy it. They got NO bad songs, only good and better!
The band was playing HOT. Terry Williams on the drums, and Mark Knopfler on guitar and vocals. Knopfler is one of Britain's top guitarists, with a unique and easily recognised sound. Try their song "Telegraph Road", or for some shivers down the spine, the amazing "Private Investigations".
I love your reaction and really love how you honestly appreciate everyone's contributions. They're all exceptional but put together they're a hell of a lot better. I love Mark's singing but appreciate Alan on the keyboard and the drummer too. Gotta respect Mark for his finger picking 🎸 playing. He's not as fast as it appears but if you watch closely when he's using his thumb he's also using his finger or fingers too to get extra out of the strings. It's almost like he's playing 2 guitars at the same time so he puts out more than than a regular slower guitarist does. They're all Sultans of swing for sure.
I love that you reviewed this -- and the Alchemy version, no less. The studio version is good. The Alchemy version is, as you said, one of the best live performances ever. Mark Knopfler is the guitarist/lead singer and yeah, the man is ridiculously talented. The final two minutes or so of him just going wild gives me chills every time. I also always love when John Ilsey (the bassist) and Hal Lindes (backup guitar) bring things way down and then slowly escalate it to a crescendo over the course of about a full minute. A lot of people who watch this performance are blown away by Terry Williams, the drummer, and I agree, he's going bonkers in this. He had only replaced the band's original drummer, Pick Withers, the previous year, so he was still pretty new at this point.
You look transfixed ! Great guitar player with a unique style. All round great performance by the whole band ! You should also check out Dire Straits live performance in Dortmund in 1980.
I could watch that drumming at 3:27 in loop for hours and never tire of it...he was killing it...! And the keyboard player playing air guitar at 4:28...he was having such a great time in his little own world.
Love your reaction!! I was in Paris in 1985 with my Sony Walkman 😂 seriously, but I forgot to bring any cassette tapes! So I went in a store and bought Dire Straits live double cassette, and listened to it the whole time I was there. Mark Knopfler, the singer/guitarist, is brilliant!! The way he adds lead moments throughout breaths in the vocals is so tasteful. Listen to Romeo and Juliet. It’s not only gorgeous, but the lyrics make me cry, and are so well written!
The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising. It's nice that you enjoyed it so much.🤗 What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having. Making your living like that wouldn't suck. Shout out to the production crew. The filmography for this LIVE concert was incredible.🤩
oh my gosh my heart is pounding with joy to see younger generations enjoy my generations music. the look on your face is priceless! i was jammin right there with you!! thank you :) Peace & Love to you
You should be in movies Pink. You have the face of an angel. Nice to see you enjoying yourself to possibly the finest performance in rock history. The drummer was insane, but Mark on the guitar was even better.
You were proper getting into that one, I could tell. People always tell me that my facial expressions say a lot, but I think you have me beat on that one! And I mean that in the best possible way. 😊 Lovely to see new videos from you, as always
This reaction video truly enhances the music, making it even more enjoyable and engaging. It stands out because it doesn't overshadow the music with excessive verbosity, but instead focuses on highlighting its beauty and impact. It's a testament to the power of the reaction in elevating the overall musical experience.
Love everything about this one, not the least how the drummer Terry Williams damned near steals the show from one of the best guitar players in the world.
Terry Williams really pushed the envelope with that set - at times he almost over-drummed but pulled back, and even got a wry smile from Mark and John during the set.
Your smile at 9 minutes was amazing. Always loved the way Dire Straits play Sultans live and I get the same buzz, the buzz you got clearly got, when it starts kicking in about then 😁
You watch and listen to music like a musician. It appears you hear everything and completely get and feel the emotion and vibe of the performance. AND you are so lovely. I, through you experience this anew. Thank you. Love the scrunchy face.
That drummer is a beast! From what I understand, his parents were in the audience that particular night, and seeing their son play for the first time. I may be wrong about that but I think that is the fact.
I remember the story that when in London enjoying some live music, Meat Loaf couldn't believe it when he found out the Guitarist on stage that night was actually "Guitar George" from this actual song.
First thing I’ve seen from you because I love watching music lovers react to this performance… enjoyed watching the look of joy and awe on your face. Yes the drummer went HAM on this performance. 👍🏼✌🏼Check out Telegraph Road from this Alchemy performance as well.
Stumbled on your channel from a reaction montage. New subscriber and absolutely LOVE your channel! First 2 videos I watched were both Pink Floyd songs....Time and Wish You Were Here. You are a beautiful soul!!!
Mark had that Jimi Hendrix thing - total mastery before he recorded a single note and effortlessly messing about and improvising when playing live. Unreal.
Pink that is Mr Terry Williams!! He was nothing short of magnificent!!! He drove this song exactly the way mark wanted it to…he is definitely in a class of his own!!! By the way you look beautiful 😘😘😘
It was filmed in July 1983 at Hammersmith Odeon, London I was there, just turned 18 (I thought I was 17, but it was a few days after my 18th) You don't realise until you watch it back how special it was. Terry Williams on the drums is very underrated, he was awesome! You want to react to Telegraph Road from the same concert, its unbelievable! Thanks for reacting to this❤❤
You reminded me of myself when I first saw Dire Straits perform (not live at that time) but they did an Aussie tour and visited my home city. I'm a really old bloke now, but just like you, I was mesmerised. Finger-pickin' Mark and you're right, the drummer killed it... so enjoyable.
One of my favorite bands, Mark Knopfler is so brilliant and he's still going strong on his solo journey. Lots of great songs from Dire Straits, keep it going. "BROTHERS IN ARMS" is a masterwork of theirs with a totally different vibe. You'll love it. (And so will your subscribers!) :)
ALways a joy to see a new generation enjoy some of the music I grew up with. Mark Knopfler is an amazing guitar player. Love this on open speakers surround sound.
There are great guitarists, and then there are guitarists who’s sound is so unique you can identify them by their sound alone. Mark Knopfler is one of the very few in the latter category. If you’re interested in hearing another, check out Wilco, Impossible Germany live on KCRW
Every great guitarist is instantly recognizable. If you listen to lots of different styles of music from lots of eras you will know dozens of distinctive guitarists.
Great performance and reaction video. I would suggest that you watch Brothers in Arms from the Mandela Concern. A spine chilling performance of a hauntingly beautiful song.
Great reaction...I agree one of the best live performances you'll ever see, and very true we can dispel with the drummer jokes on this one he absolutely killed it. 👍
A great respectful reaction. For your encore, watch "Tunnel Of Love" from this same concert, it is a mini opera. "Twisting By The Pool" is another one which will bring a smile to your face. In their heyday they were one of the biggest bands in the world. Mark Knopfler is one of the great guitarists and too often under appreciated. When the really great ones play, you can pick them from their distinctive personal style (i.e. BB King, David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix). I bought the cassette of this concert when it was first released and wore it out, thankfully the cd has lasted much longer.
Did you catch the subtle humor of the line, "Way on down south ... in London town." Yes it was an unbelievable masterpiece of art. IMHO it was the epitome of Western civilization or at least popular music,
Dire Straits are one of the biggest and most successful bands of all time. The lead guitarist, singer and songwriter is Mark Knopfler, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. This performance is incredible, Mark and Terry on drums were on fire. You should listen to Tunnel of Love from the Alchemy concert next, Terry is struggling for breath by the end of that one.
Love this accurate reaction (after giving full attention to the music and not pausing), very sympathetic woman. Thank you for sharing and all the best! It makes me happy to see young people appreciating and recognizing the genius of Dire Straits. Surely all members are exceptional musicians, including one who is almost never mentioned, Hal Lindes, who does an incredible job on rhythm guitar, too.
Great reaction to a masterpiece an lesson in musicianship! Everyone is on fire, but great of you to shout out to the drummer who went bit for bit with Mark! All of them are tight and most of all have fun, and so do we!
Thanks for your reaction, Pink. It's been a while since I saw you react to something. Great editing and great footage all-around. It was fun watching you enjoy this one!
Totally agree with you about the drummer Terry Williams. I absolutely love the drumming on this version.
