On Gen II's light ball, you can use thief on red's Pikachu if I remember correctly, as his Pikachu carries one (I am more sure this works in the remakes). It was essentially made to make his Pikachu more threatening lmao. That's the real reason it exists.
I don’t know about Gen 4, but in Gen 2 this is not true. Only the Pikachu in Pokémon Yellow can give you this item, and it doesn’t even work with Red or Blue Pikachu.
The everstone also has another hidden ability. If you give it to a Pokémon in the daycare all the offspring will have the same nature as the one holding the everstone.
That's the Everstone's most well-known secondary effect, especially when how much Breeding was useful for competitive Pokemon (especially when the region has a Battle Facility that WILL cheat, you'll need all the power you can get to succeed at times.) in the more recent few generations of Pokemon. As one who would actively breed Pokemon to try to get the strongest of those species I could get, to the point you could call me a Pokemon Breeder, I am very well-informed on hidden breeding mechanics like that. But, unless you were told or read from somewhere of that secondary power of an Everstone, it's very unlikely one would figure it out on their own, as I doubt the games outright tell you about that secondary use of an Everstone. If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong, as it's been forever since I played through Alola Pokemon games) I THINK a single NPC informs you of the use of the Everstone for regional variants breeding in Sun and Moon, that was stated in the video of this comments section. But only that one NPC.
That outside of battle effect of Cute Charm also allowed for some great RNG manipulation in the gen 4 games. If you have a specific combination of Trainer/Secret ID and a Pokemon with Cute Charm, Pokemon of a certain gender ratio will have a much, MUCH higher chance of being shiny. Of course, you'll never know your Secret ID without accessing your save file through external means, so I'm not sure it really fits in a video like this.
I tried to do that before, but trying to get the right trainer and secret ID is so convoluted and so hard to pull off requiring a timer to get the perfect timing down to the second, it's not worth it. It takes like 50 to 100 attempts to get it right usually, and who's got time for that?
ngl finding that out made me avoid cute charm pokemon like the plague because I didn't want the bugged mechanics to ruin a potential shiny encounter. It sucks because I'd love to use a Jigglypuff in gen 4.
For gen 1 that trick, it's not limited to safari zone. It's based on the last place you were before flying there, however you can "clear" the location by doing the catching tutorial before flying there
3:50 To be fair to this one, this trick and the MissingNo glitch happen due the exact same oversight, and the exploit works with any location with grass encounters that you fly from. The main thing that enables the MissingNo glitch is that watching the catching tutorial puts the player name as the encounter data until you clear it (which entering a town or water-only route doesn't).
The Normal and Gorgeous Box items are significantly more obscure than the Gen II Light Ball, especially considering they can only be obtained via Pokemon Stadium 2. There's also other unique transfer items like the Brick Piece and also the Gold and Silver Leaves.
I actually discovered the Natural Objects mechanic by pure random chance. I was fooling around with a Gyarados I had caught after beating the game, and it had Twister as one of its moves. I used it during a wild battle, and got a Kebia berry. It was then that I found a new mission to complete in the post-game: Find at least one of every berry that weakens a super-effective attack from a certain type. I still have yet to find the berry for Water type attacks.
You can use Pokemon Stadium 2 to take the Light Ball from a Yellow Version Pikachu without even trading it if you want. Same with TMs held by certain Pokemon, Brick Pieces by Machops, etc.
I did not know about the safari zone trick from Kanto!! I've absolutely heard of the other glitches, but not that one. Very cool Edit: also didn't know about the x and y natural items thing!! I love those games, that's so awesome
You can actually use it for the random encounters for any area you want. Cinnabar doesn't have its own encounter data, so it uses whatever was last loaded.
I have a level 100 Smeargle in XY that I use specifically to get items from the Natural Objects. I had noticed my aircutter would sometimes get me extra items and I looked into it and decided to make a Smeargle that had 4 moves only to deal with those objects.
The Gen 8 feature isn't just on Gen 8. I remember using it in Gen 6 just about. I think it happens when you tap on the pokemon and they randomly react.
Idk about the gen 8 one being that hidden, I used it all the time lol. Also the animation is either their Special Attack or Physical Attack animation. Felt weird that it wasn't in Legends Arceus.
@@mizusenshisongs Not referring to the Pokedex, the feature to play the Attack/S.Attack animation isn't there when your looking at it through it's summary like SnS.

Tbf, the game does not tell you about it and you have no reason to push the button there. Just because you used it all the time doesn't mean it wasn't hidden.
By pressing the Y button while you´re in the menu screen in SwSh, you can actually change the position of all the options (pokedex, pokemon, bag, league cards, save, map, pokemon camp, mystery gift, etc). You can also do something similar with the A button and switch the order of the moves while you´re in the screen with that info.
Hooray. I loved the safari zone glitch and to this day I tell people about and they don't believe me or have never heard of it. I'm excited to finally see someone else talk about it. Except I only knew it could work on the fushia side of the seafoam islands

I had no idea Telekinesis had pokemon that were immune. That's so interesting. The Safari Zone glitch was a good pick. Never heard of that one, but I knew you could find all sorts of weird stuff on the Cinnabar Coast because of Missingno. As for Sw/Sh, I can honestly say I've never once pressed that button. Didn't know the character could whistle either until I needed it for a Regi puzzle. lol.
5 out of 5 stars, I’m so glad I was able to finally learn about why the unusual looking background in Pokémon X and ORAS! Also, I’ve seen the animation play from other pokétuber’s screens but never knew how to do it myself… so thank you SO VERY MUCH for teaching me that gen 8 trick as well!!!
I knew about Roost because I LOVE to use flying types and I've been using Murkrow before it was cool and roost could be very useful to change to single dark type
Holy F, I had no clue about the hidden items in fights. Its a cool mechanic and it would be awesome to find that out. It seems like most didnt notice though. Thats sad.
I'm proud to say I had Pikachu's light ball in my playthrough of Silver when I was wee one. Completely unintentionally, mind you. I used my cousins Gameboy to trade over a bunch of my pokemon from Yellow and Red, including my loveable Pikachu with- surprise!- a light ball.
In alhola you can also have a Pokemon hold an Ever stone and it will have the same nature as the parent holding the said ever stone. Also my brother told me a cool feature in gen 6 where after the battle, you can actually pet your pokemon by tapping the bottom screen.
About the exploit in Gen 1 and the natural objects in Gen 6: I used both of them extensivly back in the days. Most of my Safari mons came from the shore of Cinnebar and in X I even had a dedicated hunter to farm stones, berries and stuff from those background objects.
I knew about most of these but the most shocking one was the last one. I have close to 2000 hours in my shield version and had no idea about the animations on the summary screen.
with the SWSH Animation one, that's actually an adaptation of something from the 3DS games, where if you tapped the pokemon on the summary screen they'd do one of their attack animations.
In many of the games, the daycare person has a tell when an egg is produced. Like, for instance, in Sword and Shield, the Daycare Worker will do a puzzled pose. And, in BDSP, the Daycare Worker will look off to the left of the screen instead of looking to the bottom.
I remember in XY, I was looking for a specific item and looked up on Bulbapedia where it could be found. That was how I first found out about those natural objects.
Everyone knows about the first one, as it's part of the Missingno glitch mechanics. I also knew about and did the second one on the list as well. Many people knew about that, as they wanted to bring their starter Pikachu into gen 2, like Ash did in the anime. You can also do it much easier using Pokemon Stadium 2's Professor Oak's Lab (which served as an earlier version of Pokemon Bank/Home.) The third one about the field abilities in Pokemon Emerald is mentioned in every Pokemon Strategy Guide at the time, and it made CompoundEyes (for wild Pokemon items), Flame Body (for quicker egg hatching), and Cute Charm (for opposite gender wild Pokemon) invaluable abilities to have. And I knew about Roost's type loss as well.
Another very useful game mechanic Emerald introduced was making Flame Body and...what was that other one?...cut down on Hatching time if you had such a pokemon in your party with an Egg also in your party. Actually, Emerald introduced a lot of very minor Ability mechanics that were useful in the overworld. A pokemon with Magnet Pull would increase the chance sharply of encountering other steel-type pokemon (if there are any in the area), for example.
You could also transfer items off of Pokemon in the first and second generations using Pokemon Stadium 2 on the N64. As long as you had Pokemon Yellow connected and the Starter Pikachu was in a PC in the cartridge game, you could just take the Light Ball from the Starter Pikachu and place it in the box. Any Gen 2 game connected to Stadium 2 could then tranfer the item to either their cartridge PC or attach it to another Pokemon.
The one thing Pokemon related I learned very late is that Synchronize (probably just in Gen 8 but please correct me when it actually started) makes encounters with the same nature a lot more easier. Learned that the hard way while looking for a Rayquaza in BDSP
It was at least in gen 6, I had some synchronize mons in ORAS for catching purposes. It's a 50% chance to be the same nature, iirc. According to bulbapedia, it was actually Emerald that started that. Apparently ORAS extended it to also be 100% for gift pokemon (but not mystery gift).
@@Jethro-goro Thanks for this. Man I wish I knew that part before KOing that Rayquaza in BDSP that I had to rebattle Cynthia just to get another shot at the green lizard
Hey Hoops i watch ur videos about quite a while now and i have to say content like this is why i like u and BlueBoyPhin so much! I only knew 3 mechanics in this video and the rest was totally new to me! U guys make Pokemon wich i paly since Gen.1 interesting and new again everytime. Thank you for that Hoops!
Didn’t know most of the later Generations hidden effects except Gen 6, abused that particular mechanic with Rock Slide to farm all the evolution stones for money and Final forms which saved my Nuzlocke run
An NPC tells you about the background stuff in X and Y and I discovered it by accident by messing with moves before meeting the NPC. So it is arguably the least hidden one, but apparently most players ignore NPCs that aren’t plot important seeing as a lot of stuff is not known by the community at large.
I seriously didnt even knew any of these facts and i was amazed that these things existed i love learning new things in pokemon your videos are always very interesting keep making these kind of videos
It's a shame Gamefreak didn't pay as much attention to detail on the performance of Scarlet and Violet. I like them but those graphical glitches and framerate drops are nuts.
5:09 he should'ce mentioned using the PC save hack in order to clone your pokemon. In 2nd gen, If you place your pokemon in a pc, start to save, and turn it off before it completes the save, when you turn the game back on youll have the pokemon in the PC and in your party.
I know about Cute Charm’s added effect but I think most people today know about it, unsure if it was commonly known about back when Emerald came out, I think I found out about that during gen 6 so I was late to learn about it. For the stuff gens 6-8, yeah, I knew about it from when those generations were new too. I use to go around looking for the jagged rocks because I used my game given thunder stone to get Jolteon & I wanted to get Raichu for my dex. I remember doing a call with a friend & they found a thunder stone before I could but we touch traded their Raichu so I got it registered in the dex eventually. Actually, on & off breeding Alolan Meowth in Galar, I wanted it to be a particular nature so I did have to go through the trouble of synchronizing timid in Ultra Moon & hunting for an Alolan Meowth to catch & transfer up so I didn’t have to deal with taking someone else’s Meowth & put up with whatever nature I was given since you get the nature passed down from whoever is holding the everstone & Meowth needs to be the one holding it. I knew this little trick since gen 7 was new & kept it in mind in case I wanted to breed something with a regional variant like if I wanted a Kantonian Diglet in Alola or something but it didn’t really come up until gen 8 when I wanted to breed Alolan Pokémon.
My favorite "Outside of Battle" ability is Miltanks "Milk Drink". It takes off 20% of Miltank's max HP & gives it to another Teammate. Once you're in another battle, Miltank can heal itself with the move, and you can repeat the process whenever. Quite broken if you were doing a Randomizer nuzlocke.
Knew all of this except the Gen II Light Ball and the Gen VIII attack animations in the summary screen. However! The Light Ball is an extension of the feature that Gen I Pokémon brought to Gen II will come with a held item based on the specie's catch rate. And in Gen VIII, clicking the stick is just a way to implement a feature from Gen VI, where tapping the Pokémon on the summary screen will make it play an attack animation. This kinda was in Gen V, actually? It would just turn the Pokémon around.
I actually knew about the Gen2 light ball, and I also knew that literally NOBODY wanted it, because it involved getting rid of the ONLY talking pikachu in the game it was meant to be in. Like, it would have been cool if it made pikachu follow you in Gold & SIlver, but it didn't. lol EDIT: Gen8's quirk isn't new. You could do that in x/y as well by tapping the screen.
Hmmm just thinking that a wonderguard, burn up / roost combo hackmon could actually be pretty good. Healing with guaranteed no damage assuming U move first. It would catch you off guard that's for sure
I think that gen 4 roost move effect is also in bdsp When i was fighting Cynthia her milotic used ice beam on my staraptor and only did neutral sometimes
I had the light ball in crystal version when i traded over my pikachu from yellow. But i didnt know what it did so it sat in my inventory unused forever. I could have had a crazy OP pikachu and dint even know it.
I was really hoping you'd mention something about the 3DS era of Pokémon games using the camera while you play to read your face/emotions and boost your shiny ofds if it notices you're sad or frustrated to keep my sanity in tact. I don't know/can't remember where or when I learned that bit of knowledge but it's been driving me nuts because I can't find anything about said knowledge!
Yeah the first one is probably a glitch. You mention it doesnt require glitching like getting the missingno to appear there. But it still relys on the same "mechanic" and is most likely a glitch/bug itself. It isnt likely that the devs specifically programmed that area to act like that.
Not to sound snooty or whatever but everybody I knew in elementary school knew about the Light Ball..I think it might’ve been in a Nintendo power article too

14:00 I think I’ve actually tried breeding some sort of form, I think like a Unovan Yamask and got a Galarian Yamask and just gave up
The Gen 1 example is literally a glitch? It doesn't corrupt game data, but if it's unintended, it's a glitch.
These transitions are so much fun to watch
The only ones I didn’t know about in this video are the ones from gen 5 and gen 7.
I seriously didnt even knew any of these facts and i was amazed that these things existed i love learning new things in pokemon your videos are always very interesting keep making these kind of videos
Read some Bulbapedia pages next time
To clarify, the safari zone trick applies to any patch of grass you were last in. That strip of coast keeps the encounter table you last used.
The gen 7 and 8 parts I didn't know those ever exist in the games I would love to see em return to scarlet and violet 🤔🤩🤩
Chansey's soft boiled too
"It doesn't require any glitching!" *performs a very well known glitch*
Fun fact: if you trade a Kadabra holding an everstone it will still evolve.
Wait what
@@fumo33 Try it in any game that has an everstone and a kadabra. Kadabra will always evolve.
Uri Geller lures around the corner
So whats the deal with that coast of Cinnabar Island? Why do multiple glitches occur specifically there?
Wow I didn't know about the safari zone/ cinnabar island glitch and I've been playing since then.
This sure was pretty dope and I'm glad I watched this
wish I know about that safari zone glitch. I lost count how many times I raged watching chansey, kangaskhan, and scyther ran away from me.
I actually had a Pikachu with a Light Ball in my Crystal version growing up!
Legends of arceus you can interact with your pokemon when they're out and you talk to them if you use the control pad
i've never played the older generations of pokemon but they look so fun
Surprisingly I stumbled on all of these by chance over the years. Confirmation is cool though
I actually knew about the Gen2 light ball, and I also knew that literally NOBODY wanted it, because it involved getting rid of the ONLY talking pikachu in the game it was meant to be in.
Like, it would have been cool if it made pikachu follow you in Gold & SIlver, but it didn't. lol
EDIT:
Gen8's quirk isn't new. You could do that in x/y as well by tapping the screen.
I knew of the Cute Charm effect. I love Skitty. I think I did read the flavor text for it and that's how I knew of it
Wow all these are surprising! I didn’t know about ANY of these! 🤯🤯🤯
Hmmm just thinking that a wonderguard, burn up / roost combo hackmon could actually be pretty good. Healing with guaranteed no damage assuming U move first.
It would catch you off guard that's for sure
This videos sponser is why sponsorblock is the best addon
On Emerald, you can use cut on gras and it cuts the grass outside of battle. Makes great uses if you don't have repels
*tries to cut grass in a cave*
I think that gen 4 roost move effect is also in bdsp
When i was fighting Cynthia her milotic used ice beam on my staraptor and only did neutral sometimes
Good job on yet another great video
Honestly surprised the Gen 1 free pokeballs from Oak didn't make the list.
Great job i only knew about the everstone thing. An addition to that if you hatch those eggs in ultra space they will be there original form.
Huh i had no idea about the everstone other than it passing down the nature of the mon in question
Nearly 700 hours logged into Shield, and I never knew about that feature
I've known about the first one but only from surfing along it after leaving Cerulean City lol
I had the light ball in crystal version when i traded over my pikachu from yellow. But i didnt know what it did so it sat in my inventory unused forever. I could have had a crazy OP pikachu and dint even know it.
I only knew about the Gen 1 one. Didn't know it was only the zone you left. I used it to catch chansey and get 99 master balls.
Emerald was the end of the gen (main game release wise) rather than mid-gen, making it even more last minute xD
Solid video. The only one I knew was gen 2
Not to sound snooty or whatever but everybody I knew in elementary school knew about the Light Ball..I think it might’ve been in a Nintendo power article too
sponsor end at 2:46 for who wants
Oh wow. I didn’t know about that Gen 1 one at all.
