Big pog
Really? Darn it I’m gonna be so tempted to watch😭
@@Sharkkid18 why wouldn’t you?
Hey amazing video. Quick question that picture you showed with Red under the truck while Mew looks from far what is that from? LOVE IT
I'm 2 minutes in and you are NOT unironically saying "g-wheel"...
I've never heard anyone mispronounce Guile before, especially that bad.
Jee-Lay
Smug (Street Fighter pro player) intentionally calls Guile "Gwee-lay" as a joke. I thought this guy was honestly doing the same here 🤣
honestly what a viewer engagement hack
I just say it like "Gile". Nobody has corrected me
Lol which time? The first second or third?
May 31st 2022: We discover that HoopsandHipHop has never played a fighting game in his life.
That pronunciation KILLED ME.
well that's just par for the course for nintendo fans
Nintendo fans when they're forced to learn about Street Fighter
The Street Fighter series has been released on Nintendo systems, 2 was on the SNES and 4 was on the 3DS. Big L on the haters.
Guile from street fighter is pronounced “guy-L”
Came here to say this. Holy shit that was an impressively awful way to pronounce a basic word.
A part of me hurt inside when I heard it
He’s pronounced things weirder in the past. I think he’s just trying to get comments
@@Swanny1280 Seriously! Plus, the word "guile" is a real word, meaning "cunning intelligence". When he pronounced it "gwee-lay", part of my childhood died!
I saw guiles picture and his theme music played in my head and then the record stopping abruptly sound effect when he pronounced his name.
"Boy and his Lapras" was actually a song in the Pokemon Adventures manga. It is heavily implied in the GSC saga of the manga, a song made by Professor Oak, Agatha, the daycare couple, and Kurt when they were young and still friends. They made this song for Pryce, who lost his beloved Lapras in a tragedy when he was young. That song was recently covered by DJ Mary and became a hit when the manga story take place.
I get anyone who didn't read the manga will never get this reference, but the Lapras and boy thing just clicked with me immediately when I saw this. I am very sure this quote is actually referencing this song in the manga because this song actually ties the whole Gold/Silver/Crystal manga arc up.
same! i think the manga came out before HG/SS as well, so they might have put it in as a manga refrence
It might actually reference Laplace ni Notte too, Pokemon's Ending Song for the Orange Islands Arc. It is literally all about riding Lapras to travel. Which is the most likely reference
Then I wonder if ash riding on a Lapras is just because it's a ride pokemon or if it's a reference to the manga that probably wasn't even out yet or even written and also therefore the game where that dialogue wasn't even written yet.
@@eglol At least I don't think this was a reference in the original Gold/Silver, only in the remakes.
@@hhjan594 That is correct!
Bonus fact: in Pokémon masters a piece of dialogue from a rising star confirms that rising stars also become ace trainers
Speaking of Code names, here's one that non-Japanese speaker will never get. The codename for BDSP is "dolphin".
People were actually suspecting a new dolphin pokemon when this code name came out, but nope.
The only reason it got this codename is that in Japanese, Dolphin is called イルカ, pronounces as "Iruka".
If you couldn't figure it out at this point, it sounds hilariously similar to ILCA, which is the company that made BDSP. That is the only reason it got this code name.
Nice one
Lmao, they trolled the fans
that's also funny because the codename of the gamecube was "Dolphin", too.
We got a dolphin Pokemon is Scarlet and Violet. Coincidence? I think N- yeah, probably.
Man, I'm not even a huge Street Fighter guy, but hearing him mispronounce Guile that bad hurt my soul
Another thing about the tourist trainer class in x&y is that france, kalos's inspiration, is the most popular European tourist destination for japanese people. It comes in second overall, with hawaii being the first, and there are even cases of Japanese people having heart attacks due to france not being as perfect and idyllic as portrayed in media. To sum up, japanese people really love france, specifically Paris
Idealic? That’s not even an english word. Are you german? I can see you anglicizing the word idealerweise or idealistisch.
The correct word though is idealistic ;)
That is just about the funniest thing I've ever read. Not to say heart attacks are usually funny but with that kind of cause, that is so ridiculous it's hysterical. Gotta wonder if any die hard weebs have had a heart attack on visiting Japan for the same reason
@@ThrE3-GeS idyllic is most definitely an English word. Maybe you should stop for directions before showing up to the party?
@@ThrE3-GeS Idyllic is an English word. Do basic research before leaving comments like this in future.
@@Lightningnova01 and you better make sure to read if someone already posted the same thing you wanted to say before repeating yourself like a parrot.
also stop liking your own comments it’s embarrassing.
In GEN five there is a place near here or before the fourth gym, where a bunch of people are speaking different languages. This is an Easter egg to the future regions of the game, French, Spanish, and what I think will be gen 10 as German.
Good old Gweelee and his Sunlit Broom special.
Oh those classic Street Fighter characters: Rai-oh, Kehn, Kuhn-lie, and Beesawn.
Guile is even a normal English word!
The Guile pronunciation absolutely killed me lmaooo, not to sound rude
Here's one for Sword and Shield that I find rather amusing. The Region in Sword and Shield, Galar, means 'disease' when translated from Irish.
I mean, to the Irish, England sure is a disease.
Sounds like it would reflect how the Irish feel about England ahaha
Cus its english based
Definitely agree
😂 I guess that the game's region literally means Covid.
Speaking of the level 3 wurmple, one time I was replaying omega Ruby and decided to shiny hunt torchic, but gave up about a week after, then that damn wurmple was shiny. And I couldn’t catch it because I wasn’t given pokeballs yet…
A Easter egg for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is in the reveal trailer on the billboard in the secret room their is a cokatraice (don’t know if I’m spelling it right) which is a myth about a chicken!
It’s called the “Roster Of Barsoloss”
Out of game/meta, the foreign building is actually a reference to churches that the Russians built in Hokkaido (inspiration for Sinnoh itself).
"Gweel from Street Fighter"
GWEEL
Actually, Stow-on-side is a very british sounding name. After all, there are many places there that go something like something-on-sea or something-over-something lmao
My headcanon is that parts of the Galaxy Hall were used in the construction of the Foreign Building now.
Like, years down the line descendants of the people we meet in Legends Arc set up the place that would become Hearthome, including some of Sanqua's own descendants. The Galaxy Hall might have been rebuilt or something by then, and so to commemorate their roots some of the old stones were brought along and used in the foundations of the Foreign Building - which in early Hearthome could have been akin to what the Galaxy Hall was in Legends Arc, a kind of central building where the leaders and other important departments in the management of the new settlement were located.
Then later down the line it got reworked as a church-type sort of building for the use of the descendants of the Pearl and Diamond Clans who still had a few ties back to their past reverence of 'almighty Sinnoh'.
idk. xD
It’s cool that Burbank, Ca and Hollywood, Ca are represented by Virbank city and PokeStars studio. It’s funny that the gym type in the area is Toxic. To me at least it seems that GameFreak is saying something lol.
southern California is infamous for smog problems, so.... maybe?
Speaking of code names, i have seen suggestions that the Hayabusa name for PLA could also be referencing the Hayabusa shinkansen, that connects a station from Tokyo all the way to Hokkaido, the region that inspired Sinnoh
That seems more likely than the rocket one, tbh
Is that where the team 'Rainbow Rocket' in USUM got it's name- because Hawaii is known as the 'Rainbow State'? (Or am I reading way into this?)
Gweelay is a gen 9 pokemon
Gwheel is hilarious 😂
“15 years before Legends Arceus even released” you’re making me feel old and I’m not even 18 yet
"I'm not even 18 yet"
way to return the favor lol 😆😭
Well I’m 30 and was in high school when gen 4 came out
@@Che1ito same bro lol that hit hard
About Stow-on-Side, the hyphenation is quite common in UK and can be seen in Stoke-on-Trent
I’m more impressed on the miss pronunciation of guile’s name kinda need to be living under a rock for that one
1:45 I won't be able to sleep after hearing the way he pronounced "Guile". 😱😱😱
Lol, most Street Fighter media pronounce it "Guy-L"
It's pronounced "Guy-L". It's a word of its own.
I've never found a low level Wurmple on Route 101. It's always a Zigzagoon at like level 2
Also in ORAS there’s a young couple near the shipwreck (whatever it’s called in that game) named Hal & Lois, a reference to the parents in the sitcom Malcolm in the middle.
5:00 That... actually explains a lot. I always thought I was misremembering the “weather is nice” girl, since I haven’t seen her since my first game. Apparently I just had the Aussie version. It makes sense though, we can’t play the US version in NZ, so of course there’d be an Aussie version XD
When you were talking about Virbank and how it's a reference to Burbank in California, and then referenced its location on the in-game map, there was a little red bridge that looked a lot like San Francisco's Golden Gate bridge!!!
1:46 Say you don't like to research pronunciations without saying you don't like to research pronunciations.
Here's one from Pokken Tournament game. If you see Braixen's fightstyle, is pretty similar to Leixia's and Xianghua that are Soul Calibur's characters.
The painting also seems to resemble the cover for Legends Arceus. I see extreme similarity in them.
Thee worst pick for Gen 1 for an Easter egg..
From Gen 1 I still think the best Easter egg is the girl out side rock tunnel mentioning Munna 12 years prior to black and white coming out.
Everyone knows that one
Keep it up on your work and this video and channel
Thank you!!
I like these videos. Always reminds me of when I'm on school break even though I'm now in college
The Battle Zone fact is pretty possible. In fact, I believe that Island is still considered Russian territory, but Japan also claims it too right now.
Although Virbanck City obviously got its name from Burbank, it is very clear that it's not based on the real world Burbank geographically. The Unova region only includes a small part of the US around NY City, so there's no way we can fit California in it. The location of Virbank City is more likely to be Jersey City in real life, considering there is the Virbank Complex that resembles the industrial facilities around there.
Soccer hurt to hear hahaha 😂
It's football in the UK
But awesome video ☺️
I found you on Spotify before UA-cam! When your videos were recommended to me on UA-cam, I was pleasantly surprised!
I know that Togekiss was introduced in Pokemon DPPT and is present in the Legends Arceus game. But what if it came from Galar? It seems like a bit of a stretch but hear me out.
Togekiss is known as the Jubilee Pokemon and like previously mentioned, was introduced in the DPPT games. Pokemon SwSh was introduced 4 generations later and is based in Britain. Here in Britain we have our monarch, Queen Elizabeth II who has ruled for quite some time with various jubilees. This year even, she's celebrating 70 years on the throne, her Platinum Jubilee if you will.
Even though the release of Diamond and Pearl was 4 years after the Queen's 50 years on the throne, the introduction of Togekiss could have been a nod to the future, especially with the Olympics in 2012 being held in the UK, coinciding with the Queen celebrating 60 years on the throne (albeit 6 years later).
Damn, how long are your arms for that reach?
Long enough 😁
Great video 💪🏻
Thank you!
Hoops: "Ksohgweelay!"
!xoguile: "that is not how you say my name."
Hoops: "Well, how do you say your name?"
!xoguile: "My name is pronounced... [pause for dramatic effect] (click)gweelay."
Hoops: *surprised Russell Peters face
I never noticed the connection between Guile and Surge. That is probably why he has a Magnemite so he can use Sonic Boom!
Flash cannon, flash kick?
@@AidanRatnage I mean, yes, definitely. :D
The pokemon league in dppt and bdsp is also based off a disputed zone between japan and russia
Guile like guy-ill
You can't be this oblivious he's a main character in the gaming world
Fun fact the design for Guile was inspired by Polnareff from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Which means lieutenant surge is a Jojo reference
1:46 How to upset a fan base with a pronunciation. Lol.
Lt. Surge being inspired by Guile is a theory. Celebi's time travel being inspired by game mechanics is a theory. You covered the Dusclops dialogue in previous episodes. Same with the SS Anne truck. Overall disappointing.
True
Dude, I legit have been a frequent viewer and fan of your content. I don't quite remember how I stumbled upon your content, however I'm thankful for the UA-cam algorithm 😂
I say that to say this, you can imagine my surprise when I noticed that this entire time I was not "SUBSCRIBED" 🤦🏾♂️ I just fixed that mistake and clicked the all notifications bell so I won't miss a beat from here on out! Keep up the great work!
Amazing video
I am losing it over “Gweelay,” that is now his name in my head cannon 😂
Can you do a series on the mystery dungeon series I loved that series especially time darkness and sky
That painting also looks like Mt Coronet with the Time Space distortion at the top too.
Guile is pronounced "Guyle".
Alola is absolutely colorful and love that reference too
Wait, are there Human Saints in the Pokémon world? "Saint Anne" would imply that it's a title. Also, since there's a canonical God, why are there no organized religions in Pokémon?
You've gotta be trolling with your pronunciation of Guile for interaction so people like me and I'm sure many others comment on it. I mean Street Fighter is pretty well known and Guile is one of the better known characters. Plus it's an actual word not just a name of the character and pronounced the same way
ok so first i wanna just clarify that its pronounced guyle the reason i bring this up is because the character guile is also a reference as guile's design was inspired by polnareff from jojo's bizarre adventure part 3 stardust crusaders and guile's name comes from polnareff's archnemesiss J.geil (Which is a reference to the J.geil's band) so technically you can thank Jojo and J.geiil's band for Lt surge even existing
i have jokingly called guile's assist trophy surge before but i figured it was just some dumb thing i was making up cause it kinda was
also im pretty sure its pronounced kinda like gile
Platinum also is the last third-version of a core game in the series
The lapras song most likely is also a callback to the lapras song from the gen2 manga
The celebi one isnt even a easer egg lol, its just speculation
Hey, heres a suggestion for a video, video games that reference Pokémon, I have a fact from Hitman 2 (although you could also trigger it in Hitman 3) where a militia guy in an abandoned school playing on his phone says he found a Charizard and that his children are going to be jealous for finding such a rare Pokémon (as a reference to Pokémon Go)
Such a great channel. Hoopsandhiphop thank you for doing the research and making this awesome content!
Thank you! And thank you for watching! 😄
@@HoopsandHipHop Next time research how to pronounce character names.
Gotta say, the female trainer class evolution is a super sick catch. I love stuff like that.
Rewatching pokemon 1st season and playing Pokemon sword shield shows how much the company has improved (with game design and pokemon variety) and it's such a beautiful game
Wait, so Hollywood and Burbank are in New Jersey now? Because that's where they would be if they were really "exactly" in the location they are in on the map of Unova.
This video was fun, if love you to do one of these secrets videos for spin off titles :)
Video starts at 1:25
The video actually starts at 0:00 but thanks for trying to help
@@nhjohnston Nah, it starts at 1:25
You should do this for the other games. Colosseum pokepark stadium, etc
Awesome video keep up the fantastic work ^^
Soccer? No. We call the sport football
At 16:21 the honeymooners names were Yuu & Ami any chance that's a teen titans reference?
Riley the symbol on his shirt I just noticed is the same as the symbol as Kyogres fins
I like that your footage for gen 4 and its remakes have the rival named various forms of "butt."
Gweel 🤣
"Gweelay or Gweel" 😂
I love how you say Sun and Moon were "lucky enough" to fall on the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, as if Game Freak didn't actually just rush it out and dump the leftover Pokemon Z contents into it in the most insignificant, convenient way they possibly could. 😂 It wasn't luck, they quite literally released those games earlier than originally intended.
This was so interesting! I can’t wait for trailer tomorrow! 🥳
actually the gaming corner censor makes sense since in australia you can''t live too far away from a pub with pokies unless you live more rural. I never really thought too much about what the npcs said as a kid.
dude ur talinted at music production
what daw do u use and what plugins mans insane
I ❤️ Pokemon all franchise
I have never seen this truck in leaf green... 🤔 Seems like I have to play it again.
I forgot to get the coconut oil at target mom. Its not that big of a deal!
Since usum came out 1 year after sun and moon, and the enchanced versions usually come out after 2 years, I feel like they rushed sun and moon so it could be on the anniversary and usum was just all the stuff they wanted to add but couldn't bc they rushed it
No fuckin shot my mans called guile GWHEEL 😂😂😂
The Pokémon special manga does this too. All the Japan inspired regions share a cohesive story, and connect back to each other. This stops after the platnum arc, and then each pair of games has its own self contained storyline not connected to the others.
Well XY sorta connects to some characters from kanto, and Sun/moon connects some characters from sinnoh
im a big gweele fan so this was interesting
This was GLORIOUS and I'm sad I ONLY just saw this! Epic as ALWAYS Hoops
You can’t be serious with that gweeel 😂😅
Odd, that emerald Easter egg I triggered every time by accident as I thought I had to press something to progress
I thought Undella Town was just a play on words for Umbrella since its a resort ish beachside place and beaches have umbrellas
12:14
If anything, I feel like Gen 1 - 5 feel more like the classic saga of Pokemon. And Gen 6 - 9 feel more like the modern saga of Pokemon
Since X Y we got:
- The fairy type
- An Exp Share rework
- 3DS Models instead of sprites
- A new battle gimmick...
In every game
In the end of the classic saga, we got Black and White 2, which are not only pretty polished games... but they also include the PWT, which feels like a recap of the complete classic saga of Pokemon.
Maybe Gen 10 will be similar and Gen 11 and onwards will change these games pretty drastically again.
Hayabusa is also an incredibly fast Japanese motorcycle
Gweel...... Yo that was disrespectful. 🤣🤣🤣
Gen 1- Small World
Gen 2- Expanding the World
Gen 3- Other Regions exist in the World
Gen 4- Origin of the Universe
Gen 5- Expanding the World V2
Gen 6- Redefining the Limits of the World
Gen 7- Establishing the Idea of the Multiverse
Gen 8- Exploring the World
Gen 9- Establishing the points if the Timeline
I always thought the REVIVE was the developers telling the players to 'get a life' and stop looking for Mew here. 😅
Decent amount of speculation presented as Easter eggs
Pokéstar studio is also called Pokéwood in french
My guaranteed Wurmple in my original ORAS was shiny! I'm still mad that copy was stolen
