I grew some great tasting citrus from seedlings when I lived in Florida. The seedlings were planted by squirrels ,possums, etc. and took over 10 years to produce good tasting fruit. Also,if you plant seeds from tree fruits and don't like the taste of the fruit you can often use a scion from the named, mother tree to graft onto your seedling. And you can even use your grown seedlings for a nice wind break or hedge if you have the space. Free trees from seeds ,thus, can be quite useful and they don't cost anything esp.compared to expensive store bought fruit trees! Thanks for this video and your amazing YT channel!

It definitely requires patience and determination. I my seedlings like the beloved pets they are. Each seedling has its own personality as seen in the growth habit, vigor, colours, etc. Also, having the mindset that it's about the journey rather than the end result makes the waiting easier.

I'm growing Meyer lemon both from seed (poly-embryonic seedling so genetic clone) as well as from rooted cuttings for genetic clones. I'm gonna study them and watch the results. My seedling is just over 1 year old, about 3 feet tall and working on it's 3rd and 4th branches currently. I tried the old school Ellen White method of planting the seedling tree + I have 2 compost piles about 6 feet away up slope from the tree providing some nutrients if that helps anyone.

Most cuttings do better in a pot or grow bags, especially in the long term. They develop a denser system of "feeder roots" faster. Most fruit trees grown from seed will probably do better outside. They should have a tap root that can dive down deep and get the nutrients it needs to develop a root system that can handle outdoor elements, like wind. But yeah, there are a lot of variables. Species of tree, zone 1-10?, native or non native, PH, sun light, water, soil conditions, and the list goes on😂

I think this is especially true when people don't realize certain fruit trees need pollinators that flower at the same time. Or chill hours to produce fruit.

Cuttings will never grow a tap root....
    That can be important.
