FYI I’ve had a North Star cherry in zone 4 Upper Peninsula of Michigan for over 12 years. -29F the winter after planting and multiple years in the -20’s. Meteor and Evans Bali have similarly done well.
Fruit production isn’t an issue?
It’s been fairly reliable…not that I get any cherries before the birds!
Haha, the woes of cherry growing. Surprisingly they left my trees alone this year. Someone on the street must have added bird feeders to their yard.
Mine is just starting to leaf out here in the mountains of Idaho, zone 5a, got down to -26F a couple months ago. It’s about 6’ tall and produced quite a few cherries last year, I expect about the same this summer.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Apple and cherry trees tbh. Native Pacific Northwest trees basically
This is our third season with our dwarf Northstar Cherry. Last year it produced a handful of cherries but the birds got them before we did. This year there are lots of blooms. How do they taste?
They’re are very juicy and a little tart. Personally that’s what I like. A lot of people like to bake with them
I'm from UK... explain your zones???
Do you know the chill hour requirements?
Zone 4-8 will have enough chill hours for it. Specific number is 700-800 I believe.
Thanks, that's too much for me. It's always hard to find cherries with low chill. @PlantFanatics
i went to the webpage but its not listed :(
Unfortunately we don’t sell them. Hopefully in the future! That won’t stop us from sharing great plants for you guys though
@@PlantFanatics ah! ok, i thought you had them. i will keep my eyes open for the future!
@@PlantFanatics ps. i am always ALWAYS looking for Goumi (not autumn olive, goumi) and especially the Tillamook variety- please do let me know if you can get those
