I'm a Glock guy and not sure where I have been for the last few years, but had never really paid attention to Shadow Systems as I yawned at yet again another Glock Gen 3 clone. Then I went to Machine Gun America in Orlando (I live about five miles away) and one of the guys working there saw my Lee Ermy Glock shirt and asked if I had seen the Shadows. He had the FDE Bronze Barrel XR920 with the Elite Slide. I was smitten. Have spent the last week gobbling up as much info as I can about the Shadow pistols and it is all fun again. Thanks for another outstanding review. I am a fan.
You have most calming yet informative videos out man. Thank you.
I appreciate that. I have no interest in being a salesman posing as a reviewer - just being myself is the only thing I'm fairly good at.
@@thisismagacountry1318 Paul Harrell is what I play when I want to fall asleep. I swear he's the only video content creator that can put someone to sleep while hearing gunshots throughout the video!
I honestly believe that cleaning a new Shadow Systems prior to shooting reduces the issues during the "break-in period." I cleaned both my MR and DR 920s and didn't have nearly as many FTF issues. Overall, 2 of the best guns in my collection! Glad to have you back. Love your videos!
ALL new firearms should be fieldstripped, cleaned and lubed prior to use. This has been a no brainer prerequisite since firearms first began to appear on the market and a practice that I have been performing since I was first introduced to firearms at age 7.
Perhaps you make a good point, I have this same gun XR920. I didn't clean it but I did strip it apart and lubricated it and I've gone 300 rounds on 3 different visits to the range and I didn't have one single failure to feed or anything, not a single one. The gun has performed beautifully. I'm halfway through the video and I'm scared to see how many failures the guy has had.
"Cleaning?" smh~ SS oils, greases their gun prior to being sold, cleaning isn't needed. Open bag, grab pistol, add ammo, fire~
@@chgofirefighter Never a good idea. Fieldstripping and cleaning a new firearm is an essential part of any new firearm purchase. Quality control on high output mass produced products sucks and firearms need to be proven to work before trusting them to protect you or your family and friends. Barrels need to be cleared of steel shavings and other obstructions that can scrape, or scratch the rifling and cause accuracy to suffer. My SS 918 was non-working out of the box as the striker tip was broken off of the firing pin prior to shipment. I didn't find this out until I got the pistol to the range and attempted to fire it for the first time as I wasn't able to identify the parts failure by simply field stripping and cleaning the pistol. If I had been stupid enough to try and load and carry the pistol for protection without first having proof tested it, it could have gotten me or someone I care about killed.
I cleaned mine didn’t help lol Had to get a replacement barrel sent out.
I have a Shadow Systems DR920 and it has run flawless from day 1. There was zero break in for my particular gun, it just ran everything right out of the box. That being said I started off with Gen4 Glock 17 magazines instead of the supplied PMAG's. I read some things that people were having issues with PMAG's so I just took them out of the equation from the start. I have put nearly 700 rounds through it without failure and I absolutely love this gun. Thanks for the great video.
I bought my mr920 elite from their first shipment to replace the 918. I have been a fan since the day I got it. I haven’t had any problems and it shoots everything. It’s in the carry rotation and is my bedside gun. Your review was perfect.
Got a new mr920 elite last weekend. Took it to the range and had 1 FTF out of 210 rounds. It happened on the seventh round. Love this gun.
I purchased the XR920 and have had zero issues with it....great firearm
I own a DR920. My break-in was less than a box of ammo and haven't had any FTF, FTE, or battery issues since. I don't mind a 100 round or so break-in advertised but man I hate when companies hide behind that for 200+ rounds. In modern times that's a lot of ammo money before your carry gun is ready for action.
That’s why there’s so many guns on the market, choose another one. I can’t afford the maintenance on a Ferrari so I don’t buy one, I don’t blame Ferrari.
This was helpful to see how the gun shoots and what the break-in issues could occur. This Shadow Systems is on my list for possible buying.
Yeah give them a try. I have a MR920 and a XR920 and only malfunction I had was 1 with the MR920 on like my 3td magizine. About 400rds in the MR920 and 200 through my XR920.
Got a mr920 elite long have about 700 roungs with no issues, my trigger came in at 4.1 lbs. Real happy with it, Glock perfection.
Very well presented and articulated!!!
Gonna vote/buy mine this week🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I did 300 dry fire and slide racks before ever putting one round through my XR as well as cleaned and added my preferred lubricant & red sticky tacky on the slide rails.I’m at 500 rounds without any failures.Which I’m glad about because I’ve seen a couple videos trashing the reliability but mine is flawless so far.Might have something to do with how I did it in the beginning but. So far so good
I like Shadow Systems pistols, great guns ! Justin, thanks for Your new video !
Hi Justin, I picked up a DR920 today. I put a quick 100 rounds through it with zero hickups. I've shot Glocks for years and this gun is really nice, it looks really nice. It handles really well and shoots very nice.
Thanks for the video, information, and great explanation re: "break in period" for this pistol. I gave me a lot of food for thought.
I have one of these. I cleaned it well, and then used the thinnest oil I could find. No break in issues.
I have an MR918 elite and and an MR920 combat, no issues at all and I found an XR920 at a pawn shop today that was hardly fired, put that baby on layaway!
Pawn shop - hardly fired? Should be a red flag
@@wiggybends3632why cause the guy who traded it needed money?
The quality of this video is so good, it's better than my eyesight! Just love to see the process of the gun breaking in. RIP Kuno
well done sir. whenever i break in a new custom gun, slide, new barrel, etc.. i shoot at least 124 grain ammo and i use grease on the gun to start with. that has always worked well for me. i like the looks of your shadow systems pistol. i would own one but i have many glocks with a lot invested in them. unfortunately i discovered this company after the fact.
Another great video, thanks.
Just subscribed, very much appreciate your straightforward and honest approach
i was told about the break-in period and i was a bit firtunate in i dint get mich of any issues, but as you said, im glad there was the explanation of what to expect
Just picked up my XR920 yesterday and looking forward to breaking it in. I added the Holosun 507. Thanks for the video.
What color of dot did you go with and how do you like it?
This happened with my xrm920. Took about 300 rounds. But now I’m Clint Eastwood 😂. No joke. I have a glock 17 and xrm920. And the differences is ridiculously noticeable. Less muzzle flip. Better grip. Better sights. Better trigger. I highly recommend getting a holosun red dot. You can really change from 20 yards to 40 yards easily. I highly recommend this firearm. Can’t wait to get my hands on the crm920. 43x glock version
Can we all just take a minute and appreciate the photos at 19:00 and 20:31? Some of the cleanest, most detailed photos I've seen of the firearm period. Shadow Systems should add you to their Christmas card list.
honestly its how he got a sub from me, lol the detail in things like the photos as awell as logo etc ... he's mindful
His photos are hands down the best on UA-cam! Love his videos!
Great review!! Really enjoyed the shooting 👍🏽 I EDC a MR920 Elite with a Holosun EPS MRS A TLR7-A and had zero issues during my breakin period. Someone at the range had the same breakin you had but after about 200 rds it’s been flawless. I’m at around 5K and I don’t see myself switching out my edc 💪🏽💪🏽
Thank you great review, very informative.
Thanks for the content!! Nice review
I've waffled on the Shadow Systems for quite some time. Recently I've started to see more people having problems with them, and of course there is the issue of the trigger. Almost everyone seems to dislike the trigger. I've handled them, and even though they feel nice in hand, I would say the trigger is definitely worse than my 19.5.
As for break in, what I usually do with pistols or new slides, I get them in, I dry fire and manipulate them like crazy as I become familiar with the firearm. Then I clean them, and take them to the range. Only time I've ever had an issue was the first 30 rounds of a PDP, I had one failure to go into battery. Even my new P365 slide saw hundreds of manipulations and multiple cleanings before it went to the range for the first time where it ate up 500-600rds without issue.
Great video of the break in of the SS platform! The guns do mix and match perfectly so since you have the MR920L and the XR920…2 guns = 4 guns!! With those 2 you can make a DR920 or an MR920! SS is my daily carry and I’ll probably stick with it for quite some time.
This is an awesome concept …I just read that 2 guns to make 4 very cool!!!
I just bought the Shadow systems cr 920. It's good to know what to expect
Great review!
Had that same first round fail to get in battery on my first round of my first two mags on my MR920. 1400rds later never had anything else. SS is just doing everything right.
Same only problem I had on my MR920. My XR920 has had none.
Glad you're back!
I own a pair of the Shadow Systems pistols. Never had any form of malfunction through either of them.
During the break in it reminds me of my Raven Arms MP25 because I sometimes must help my slide on it as well 😂. Actually the Shadow Systems is a beautiful firearm unlike a Glock and I do appreciate the need for a break in period on a tightly manufactured firearm. Not exactly the same thing with my Raven 🤣. Thanks for the video.
You're going to make me dig out an old Raven and do a video with it!
@@JustinOpinionChannel That would be cool 😎.
Someone give this man an ad read. looking at you, Raid: Shadow Legends. Hey Justin, where do we get the tactical scrubs you're wearing? Haha. love the vids.
Got the DR and MR. After break in. They run flawless.
I’m looking at both now…what would you recommend? Both are the same price and both elites.
@@awesomedave8484Depends on your usage, I own the MR920 Elite, and it's run flawless for me through about 400 rounds. Great EDC choice.
@@vermillionaether appreciate the follow up. I don't have a need for edc but I found a deal for $800 on a new DR elite so I'm going to start with the big guy.
@awesomedave8484 Aye let's go! You won't regret it, I have seen some people have a pretty rough break in period, I personally didn't have that issue. But once it's ran through the paces a bit it's sure to be one of the best sidearms you own. IMHO.
So far, out of all the 9's and 10's, Springfield has held its ground in my EDC. That's not to be taken lightly by me since it was competing against my Glocks, M&Ps, CZ's. But the Walther PDPs will always hold special favor with me, but the Hellcat, and XDM Elites' are no joke and earned their place with my carry loadout.
Lol springfields are junk
Xdm elite 10mm 😎😎
@@SkateAndReview agree
Shot mine for the first time yesterday, a bit over 300 rds with zero issues. It would replace my glock19 if it was better then my CZ P10C. It is close but the price keeps it in the range toy category. That said it is a very very nice pistol better than glocks in many ways.
Great review and glad to have you back
Cheers
at 350 on mine, no issues.
Hi, May I ask what weight of the bullets are your shooting with?
I want one of these but keep wavering. A little pricey but seem like nice firearms. Nice video.
My thoughts too, for the price the gun should flawlessly. I`ve never had any trouble with any of my glocks straight out the box. Just saying
Great review! Just picked up a MR920. So far, so good. 2 failures to feed through 50 rounds.
Where did u get that high powered 9mm ammo?? An old man with dimentia told me if blows lungs out of peoples body...fjb
I have an MR920 Combat, and can say that the break-in period is real. I had 4 or 5 failures to feed in the first 100 rounds or so, and none after that. I've run several different types and weights of FMJ, 124 grain gold dots & HST, 50 grain Liberty Civil Defense, & Buffalo Bore 147 grain +P hardcast. It runs everything. If you're planning on buying a Glock & doing any work to it other than replacing the sights, just buy a Shadow Systems instead.
You can swap the slides on the MR920L and XR920 and basically have 4 pistols with 2. I had 3 failure to feeds in the first 500 rounds after that it's shot everything well except winchester steel case I had it bobble a few rounds
I didn't have any issues with my XR920, but it was very tight. It was kinda hard to even just work the slide for a while.
If I got one of these guns I would work the slide about 100/150 times before even taking it to shoot it... Also the only thing I don't really like about the gun is the beaver tail on the Lower/frame sticking out as far as it does
👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️🇺🇸🇺🇸💯💯🛎 I just got a DR920 yesterday I put 200 rounds through it today
Try running it with factory Glock magazines. I’ve had the same feeding problems with pmags in my 26 and 19.
I had to put a Glock recoil spring in my dr920 War poet to make it feed reliably I was at over 1000 rounds and still getting ftf I suspected it was the recoil spring after thoroughly looking it over and just racking the slide normal with no mag it wasn’t going fully into battery by about a quarter of an inch so I took the recoil spring out of my g17 and put it in the War poet and problem solved.Put the recoil spring from war poet in the g17 and ftf on every mag just like the war poet. I replaced a lot of shadow systems small parts trying to fix my issue and I think I just had a bad recoil spring Im thinking it was just too light or was out of spec the only reason I tried so hard to make that gun run right is 1 I like to figure and work out the problems on my own and learn my gun even though I know I could have sent it to shadow systems and 2 I love the gun and how it feels it’s everything out of the box that I want my Glock to be without spending a lot of money and no slide bite without putting a huge back strap with a beaver tail on the gun besides the ammo I spent a total of 80 dollars to fix the gun. I’m only posting this comment to maybe help the next guy that might have the same problem and really wants to keep the gun I’ll be buying more shadow systems but I’m definitely putting a stock Glock recoil spring in all future purchases
Nobody does close ups so you can see the detail like you do! 🤝
Thanks. That's something I make an effort to do.
i like the fact that you don't have to use mounting plates that raise the height of the optic on the shadow systems guns. is that a patented mounting system for shadow systems? i would like to see this kind of optic mounting option on other guns. $1000 isn't that bad for what you are getting. i have built p80s that are probably not as good & have spent as much or more money on.
Awesome job folks kept chiming in on my video about the break in…I put mine out on sales market great gun but can’t understand Glock clones costing so much more.
If you take all the features and price what it would have cost you to buy all those upgrades for a stock glock it actually comes out to a discount.
I’ve wanted an MR920 for months but that break in period does bother me a bit noting that I don’t know if I have the time of ammo to get through it. Definitely will one day
A lot of guns require the same and my HK p30 and vp9 and match cost me a lot of money to break in…stiff springs. Glocks loose tolerance makes them run out of the box. I like Glock for being able to eat all types of ammo.
Thank you for this video, Justin. Very helpful. I was looking hard at these, but now I'm going to pass. Too many malfunctions, even with a "break-in period." I'll go M&P 2.0 Compact and move forward.
Nah, I own 4. Two needed a breakin, all have been flawless after 200 rounds.
hi i have a glock 17 gen 3 i use Speergolddot 124+p as my carry ammo is 9mm good enough for self defense and home defense or should i get a .40 or .45?
I do not recommend licking until you get to the tritium center or biting into the tritium at the end
Cleaned my XR920 thoroughly before the first range day and only had one FTF in the first 100 rounds.
I'm really curious about this break-in thing and how the failures (or not) relate to the PMags vs. people dumping the Pmags and going straight to Glock mags. I recently bought an XR and all the gun shop guys (at several different stores) told me to dump the Pmags immediately. Is it really tight tolerances as SS claims.. or just crappy mags?
Just FYI my department was going to switch the Shadow systems but didn’t. Mainly because of the massive amount of malfunctions the guns had.
Google says it’s a Glock gen 3, though shadow systems told me it’s a gen 4.
Still trying to get to the bottom of this too. It’s odd that it’s this difficult to figure out.
I went ahead and order their MR920L
Looks cool, I will keep the Sig….
Glocks don’t need any break in period. I’ve shot thousands of rounds through mines and it hasn’t jammed 1x, not even with steel cased ammo. That’s why shadow sys won’t top Glock. Ppl own Glock for its reliability, not because it has cool cuts, windows, and a bronze barrel.
Wow.. you had a lot of malfunctions during break in! I only had two with my MR920L, both were failures of the slide locking back on an empty mag.
After the 200 round break in, I’ve had no issues. These guns work!
It's patterned after gen 4... mag release and also I can put my gen 4 recoil spring in this gun
Thanks for the price.
I would love a .357 sig video. Please…. ;)
Took bad it’s based off gen 2 glocks because the ambi slide catch/release is nice
4 shadow systems. No issues.
After watching this not to sure if I would pay 800-1100 for a gun like this, I’ll stick with Glock
🤙🏻👊🏻💪🏻🇺🇲
Best way to break in a shadow systems is first clean and lube it. Second toss the magpul mags and replace with oem glock mags. Next fill all oem mags to capacity. Insert mag and keep racking the slide with live rounds until empty(carefully). Keep repeating until all the rounds feed reliably.
*trainer dummy rounds.
@@garydol9363 they don't carry the same weight, dimensions and bullet shape
Just inspect those multi-fed rounds. I had a bad magazine on my AR 10mm that wrecked ammo bad - shoving the projectile right into the casing about 9/10 rounds. Even one overpressure round can ruin your day.
How's it run with Glock mags?
for that $$: The Beretta 92 X: However, interesting and informative: Thanks
I have a war poet mr920 and I’ve got 1500 rounds through it with zero issues. Even during break in .
I'd like to see a video post break in..
Want one!!!
It appears once you switched to better brand ammo, at 100 rounds , herters and federal it ran flawless
Was that “out of the box” or did you clean and lube it first ?
Me and a friend didn't use the factory provided mags at all, used Glock mags.
Are there any updates on this? I'm considering getting one, but im unsure now with all the different issues people seem to have. Mags are falling out after 1000 rounds and things being out of spec.
Have you had any more issues?
All the known issues have been taken care of as far as I know. As for the mag problem, I don't know. But if you check it every now and then and make sure it's not chewed up, you should be alright. I say go ahead and pick one up. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what issues because SS will take care of you.
I heard glock mags are better than the mags this gun comes with, same for the CR and MR versions.
SS should make their own mags like Bul armory does for their line of pistols based on the Glock G3 platform
Maybe cleaning and dry firing practice may reduce the malfunctions. Great video Justin once again.
Isn’t anyone concerned about how little of steel is between the front of the rear sight and the optic cut? You would think that little piece of metal under stress would just break off. The stock supporting that rear dovetail is extremely tiny!
Advice... ditch the Pmags and switch to real Glock mags. I remember the first session with my XR920 threaded barrel, the mags were doing the same for the first 100 rounds, I switched em to Glock mags and problem solved, no more malfunctions.
I ditched the crap p mags and ran g17 mags and not one issue resulted. I like p mags for ars but not a fan for pistols.
I did the same since the very first round. Didn't use the p mags, used G17 mags. 300 rounds in and not a single issue, not even one malfunction of any type.

The funny thing was the store tried arguing with me about it. That’s exactly what happened to mine hell I couldn’t even get it to feed with the pmag.
Is the trigger shoe aluminum or polymer?
Aluminum
@@jaboclawson371 i appreciate the info bro.
It’s a gen 4. Not only Did you say it once incorrectly, you said it four times. If you watched any of their videos, or even looked at it, you’d see it was gen 4 based.
Since you have the L and the XR you can swap uppers and have the MR sized (19) and DR (17) sized guns also.
Like to see a follow up with both th Mr920L and the Xr920. Do the slides interchange?
I’d take your handmade war horse over anything ve seen….hate it you have so much trouble Justin you’ve always been calm n cool bout it all…I would be a pissed off mess
🔫☠🦅☠🔫
Perhaps the company needs to do their own break in time, especially considering the price of ammo these days.
lol
That’s my thoughts on anything over 1200$….if I wanna tappy tap tap I’ll get a kimber or Taurus….actually I’d take a Taurus of a kimber
I agree.
Nice but too expensive. I’ll just stick with actual glocks.
Glock is the obvious choice if you won't do any modifications. If you put in aftermarket trigger, sights, optic cut, threaded barrel, etc. then the shadow systems pistols are a no-brainer
What is the price point?
Hard time justifying one of these when the PDP exists haha. If someone wants a glock though, it looks like a good version
Pass.
He said "Chewy Tritium Center"... 😆 8:50
I noticed you break the grip with almost every other shot ?
Could it be the mags?
They have a 150-200 round break in period. I personally use glock magazines over the magpul. I've seen issues more prevalent in the magpuls. Not knocking them, they make great AR15 magazines.
Ever try dropping a factory Glock barrel in the gun?
