The new FN REFLEX is clearly after its share of the micro-9 market for concealed carry - but it is ready for the job? Based on my limited testing, I'm not sure... here's my review.

So i recently purchaed this gun. Optics model, and i absolutely love it.
It had some feeding issues ootb but with a clean and oil, and a little polishing of the very steep ramp, its been 100% reliable with 500 rounds of mixed ammo. Its also absurdly accurate at 20 to 25' shooting fairly rapid 2.5" groups. It comes back on target easily and is a lot easier to hang onto than a p365, or shield plus.
I had no low left issues at all. But i run an optic.
    Very happy with it.

Good honest review, value in the size comparison against the other pistols, much appreciated. I've heard about numerous other issues with the gun shooting low left and some have had issues with failure to feed...definitely some teething issues that FN would need to admit and step-up to make it right. There is a break-in period per FN, but the issues mentioned seem to be well past the 200 rounds. I have much more respect and trust for companies that don't play games and bury issues when new models are released. Nobody wants to chase issues and deal with companies that pretend, they just want it made right without a bunch of hassle. Especially when there are a lot of great carry options these days!

I know the owner has put some rounds through it, but not sure how many. Problem is, you KNOW that people will buy it for CCW and carry it without ever shooting it first.

Glad to see I’m not the only one that struggles with the Reflex. I really wanted to love this pistol but I can’t seem to get consistently good shot groups. Fortunately I just went back to carrying a CZ P10S. It is larger but is breeze to shoot nice groups with.

The biggest hurdle FN Reflex has to overcome is the FN's reputation of abandoning perfectly functional guns instead of developing them over the years. Buying FN Reflex now is a gamble comparable to buying Hudson H9 back in the day (I chose that example because the gamble didn't pay out for H9). If you buy a new gun every 2 years anyway, then it's probably safe for you to buy purely on performance out of the box.

I just purchased one a few days ago I haven't shot it yet but immediately out of the box it would not load or extract ammo so I did the UA-cam gunsmith mods i rounded off the extractor and polished the feed ramp it made a huge difference but I still haven't fired it yet I would wait a while on this one me personally I love modding and fixing weapons. and I think they all had their issues when released

Thanks Justin for the review, you may have got a bad handgun from your dealer. My high power has operated flawless thru 1200 rounds. I would have purchased this when it was introduced but at that time never ran across one. At 12 yards you did some great shooting, especially with the hellcat.

Reading about all these issues or people hearing about issues with this FN but mine has not missed a beat at almost 500 rounds now. It’s a very easy gun to keep on target out of every small gun I’ve shot. The trigger is amazing and just gets better as you shoot it. Now I just need to get eyeglasses I can’t afford just yet but when I get em then I’ll throw an optic on and I have a feeling it’ll be a dream to shoot!

I own this gun. Mine has functioned flawlessly. My issue as a 1911 guy, if it's hammer fired and SAO it should have a manual thumb safety. Which brings up another question; why internal hammer? Why not external and shorten the slide?

  • @chrisbaker978
    @chrisbaker978 4 місяці тому +2

The sig also had many issues when it came out which took them time to get fixed, specifically it would drag the striker on the casing and break the striker. Since they fixed that issue they are now well trusted and carried. You did shoot the Springfield better but it needed an after market trigger where as the FN had a nice trigger out the box. I’m not certain there wasn’t a real issue with your particular FN, but like you said it could just need to be broken in which just means it has good tolerances if that is the case. You did shoot the FN better than the Sig even though you have more experience with the sig and I think that’s noteworthy as well. I would personally be interested in seeing if these minor issues were resolved after a break in period and more time behind the trigger. Thanks for the review.

I really like this handgun, great to carry, fit and finish is great also, only issue is I shoot a bit low to the left with it. Good consistent groups, but ~2” low and left at 7 yards. Not a big issue at this distance but I haven’t shot it at further distances as it is really not made for long shooting.

Put 250 rounds of 115gr Blazer Brass through my brand new reflex today and only had one instance where I had to bump the back of the slide to knock it into battery maybe 100 rounds in. Can’t speak much for the low and left issue people are having as I run a Romeo Zero on mine and it’s dead on accurate with great groups. The red dot is right over my front sight so I can’t imagine the irons would be far off. I’m happy with it and can’t wait to run it some more.

My Reflex MRD has none of the issues others have reported with theirs. No feeling issues, no low and left issue. Haven't changed anything about it or cleaned in in over 700rnds and it's running great. Even hit about 10/15rnds of 115gr Speer Gold Dot JHPs on a torso sized metal plate about 125yards out. I carried it on a road trip, while keeping my FNX45 close at hand in a crossbody sling pack, and have no complaints.
I believe in carrying the largest pistol you can practically conceal, and for me, that's my FNX45, since SIG has stopped producing my go to P229(.357SIG. I personally am not a fan of the "sub 4"" pistols, but bought this one, as a compromise because my wife would like me to buy a couple of suits for some "dressy" type date nights. I figured if I can't carry my FNX or P229, then this would be better than just a knife, or sharp stick I may find laying around. Still, if I cannot seem to effectively conceal the FNX while dressed up (without looking like I'm wearing my dad's suit as a kid) and the P229 is still doable, I may just have to go with a 9mm P229 unless, or til, SIG starts making factory P229s in .357SIG again, or offers the ability to truly custom order. I don't trust Sig's striker pistols, and generally do not like striker fired pistols anyway. That's what steered me toward trying out the Reflex.

Whether I am interested or not in a review. I tend to watch your videos over anyone else. I prefer your presentation. Even if I totally vibe the product placement at times. I would rather watch your advertisement over anyone else.
I want an FN Reflex, this will tell me I need to keep waiting and buy NIB.
    Some experience of myself....
    - Bought a hellcat that shot everything to the left. Reproduced with a a competent shooter. Got rid of it.
    - Have a P365 XL slide Macro frame currently. Front night sight, dead. But otherwise no failures.
    - Glock 26, failures here and there over the 15+ years of ownership.
    - Glock 42 (380 I know) I am on my second, and these things appear to be ammo sensitive or luck of the draw. If it doesn't feed freedom I will abandon the g42
    - Glock 43 I have rented and borrowed several times. Other then a tad snappy when shooting nato ammo it works
    - shield, I have borrowed, nowhere near as snappy.
I found in my experience that the FN reflex has a false reset which shouldn't bother you if you are experienced, but slow accurate fire would annoy me.

I have this gun and love it. Be forewarned however, that I cannot find a pic mount laser only. The pic rail on this gun is narrower than standard rails. So after trying three different manufacturers lights, lasers, and combos, I emailed FN and they told me that the only rail mount accessory that fits is a Streamlight TLR8 Sub, which is a laser/light combo. FN says that the Reflex rail is similar to a Glock 43X MOS rail, and that accessories for that gun will work on the Reflex. However, the Glock accessories that I found are either trigger guard mount or guide rod related…..

My question is, is it safe to carry the Reflex with a round in the chamber, cocked but there is no lock? Has anybody heard of any safety issues with the Reflex? I do use a kydex holster, specifically made for the FN Reflex.

Taurus gx4 is currently the best micro 9. Much better trigger than the 365 and hellcat.
The FN reflex is defective.. mine shot low left and couldn't hold a group no matter who shot it. FN wouldn't help at all, wouldn't even look at my proof video (or wouldn't admit it). Back to back shot a 1" group with a Taurus gx4 and couldn't even get a 6" group with the reflex at 7 yards.
First terrible experience with FN. Looks like yours is doing the same thing 🤣

I love my 509 as well and to me it’s the best gun in that class I’ve fired. With small pistols it’s very common that right handed people shoot low and left. Often times that’s due to the shooter and less to do with the pistol itself, perhaps that is the case esp since this was his first time firing it. I would try shooting it from a vice and if the pistol continues then I would simply make a small adjustment to the sights so that it’s only shooting low and then change the point of aim slightly to a 12 o’clock hold

I've seen multiple people shoot this gun low and to the left, I've also seen a few malfunctions here and there. The real killer for me, it's the fact that the gun has a sub 5lb trigger with no safety at all, not even a trigger dongle. That is extremely unsafe to the point of negligence on the part of FN. I get that that makes the gun fast and fun, but if you ever make the slightest mistake with it you're going to have a bad day. Unacceptable for any carry gun to not require a determined effort to pull the trigger.

It’s got a hinged trigger safety like the older model M&Ps. That hinge design is the safety.

    • @scottbryant9425

The trigger isn't any lighter than a shield or GX4. It's different but I don't feel it's easier to overcome than any of the other 5ish lb triggers I've shot. It does have a long take up and a hinge so it's not exactly a hair trigger by any means.

So much for hammer-fired being more accurate than a striker fired pistol... I have a 509 T and am equally unimpressed wth FN pistol accuracy. Reliability, build quality and general feel is good... accuracy and trigger - not so much.

I'm suprised that gun companies suffer from what I call "infinite, Neverending stupidity". For example, they'll put on a Hillary Hole safety, won't change their grip angle, and in this case continue to install giant billboard advertising on the sides of their slides. Regardless of what customers want.

Another single action whether striker or hammer but with no manual safety like carrying a 1911 without a grip safety and without a manual safety. Nature will take its course.

I really don't understand this comment. If you are putting the gun in the holster before jamming it in your pants when starting the day and then grabbing the gun with the holster altogether when you are removing it you will never accidentally squeeze a round off. In my 8 years of conceal carrying I have practiced this routine and never came close to squeezing a round off accidentally. I've been carrying the reflex for a year strong side in a Desantis holster made for it never had an issue.

@@Lexicologist1971 He has been lucky so far that nothing has snagged that trigger but something will eventually when he least expects it. He will have to take the gun in and out of the holster while in his pants when shooting and practicing and all it takes is one time for something to snag. Carry Condition Zero is not safe. Again, nature will take its course.

I have seen several owners of the reflex experience it shooting low left or just left of target.. not sure if that issue has been fixed but that is enough for me to say.. yeah, I'm going to pass.. aside from the reliability issues you experienced.. I enjoy your videos.. so the question today is, what is the best edc for comfort, reliable, good round count and manageable recoil .. what is overall the best in your opinion Justin? 43x, hellcat, srt9micro, p365 line, masada slim, shield plus, 503 /509 FN, G26, G19.. ?? Thanks. 😁
