I have a Frankenstein MR918/20. Traded a watch for a 918 frame with an Overwatch trigger assembly installed, then got lucky picked up a complete 920 slide assembly on eBay for $275! Dumped the Ghost connector for an OEM dot connector added a NY trigger return spring, NDZ guide rod, running an OEM Gen 4 barrel. 1500 rounds so far so good, comfortable carrying as a defensive weapon. Points as well as a Walther P99 or a bit better.
I was never interested in the shadow system elite because it was a little too fancy/ flashy for my taste but this seems more my speed. I like the plain Jane look. If I didn’t already have a gen 4 with a brownells slide for an optic I’d be heavily considering picking one up
@izaiah9241 You will probably never get a reasonable answer, as he can't provide one, of those 10 if not hundreds of reviews you will find on the SS platforms you won't find any reliability issues. The person you were replying too was simply talking out his ass.
My CR920 Combat runs like a sewing machine after the first 100 rounds. Had 2 stove pipes and that was it. I have 300 rounds now. Only had it two weeks and I need a holster so I can start carrying it.
I have a MR920, and a MR920L and love them both. For striker fired they are everything I want without having to modify the gun like I had to with Glocks. However my 2011 is definitely a better gun. Shadow system may put Glock out of business in America.
Good video I have watched it several times. I just bought a DR920P-B-EOD-SCB-SENP. I don't know what all that means. I haven't had any problems at all with it's performance. To start with the trigger. It has to be the worst trigger I have ever used. My daisy BB gun is just as good. The green front sight is good as long as you have light behind you. But if the light is coming at you from the front I can't see it at all. I would like a fiber optic. I have bought 2 Holosun one red one green. And if you happen to touch the mussel brake the pin falls out. The manual says to make sure that the RED o ring is in. I got white ones with mine. That is my story.
I have a MR920 Elite and a DR920 Elite, both didn't need a break in period but I was planning on practicing with it anyway so no big deal. Who would carry a defensive firearm without running a few hundred rounds anyway?? My wife carries the CR920 and it did need a break in period. 100 rds, easy, has performed perfectly ever since.
My MR920 came super tight. The lock up is the tightest I’ve ever seen. The lock up on my DP920 is actually the loosest glock type I’ve ever seen. As for the break in. My MR920 came good to go. No issues loading or with battery issues. My DP920 had some issues and still kinda does with the battery hang up when loading. And it’s loose. It’s got about 800 rounds through it now. 🤷🏿♂️
Also. I love the MR grip. I’ve got medium sized hands. The grip fits me like a glove and like you said, the pinky grove helps my hand lock in. If your hands are like mine but you want to shoot a longer slide I think the have a MR920L or you can use your DP slide on your MR grip for the best of both worlds.
The only thing I don't like is the extreme angle of the slide serrations. GLOCK needs a Gen6. As reliable as they are, they are not as receptive to design improvements as the MOS mounting proves. SS are becoming more appealing.
You are definitely one my favorite gun reviewer and I will continue to watch as long as you don’t compare your Bugatti to the 2011/1911 pistols you are reviewing or compare a grip to some um you know 🐈 😂 good job keep it up 👍
Wonder why they don't offset the slightly longer slide of the DR with a lighter recoil spring assembly for faster lock-up and slide travel. It looks like the slide was dipping a whole lot more on return than with the MR series in the slow-motion footage. They probably have a good reason for keeping most of the 3 platforms pretty similar in configuration and values I would imagine. I actually have been carrying a Foundation MR920 that I've added a Holosun EPS to for about 5 months and it's my favorite Glock style carry gun, even compared to my GEN5 19. The 1911 grip angle paired with the quality of life improvements in ergonomics, optic cut and reliability put this a cut above the rest without the real unnecessary flare of the Combat or Elite. For the asking price tag I would take one of these for serious use above any of the other clones and the improvements make me prefer it over a Glock in the shooting department.
Have well over 20k on my mr920l. I use it for IPSC competitions. Dr920 was not available yet here in Europe, but I got to shoot it later and for me there is no noticable difference in grip size, my hands just barely fit well enough on MR frame. Foundation series seems like a step in right direction, bring it closer to Glock price and honestly biggest game changers about SS is their lower geometry and optic cut.
How many rounds did you put through it to break it in? I just ordered one and am getting cold feet with the varying pros and cons that are at about 50/50. Thanks
@tonymarinelli7304 good morning, Tony. What I did was take the advice from UA-cam '( Tactical Conversations ). And when I got it home, I feild strip it, just your basic feild striping a pistol clean it lube it up ( WELL ) where you need lube at. then I spent the day dry fire practicing with it by just working the slide and pulling the trigger, racking the slide, pulling the trigger. I also used ' Dummy rounds ' and filled a magazine up to help break-in those components when a round is being loaded. Remember. Use, ' Dummy rounds ' when doing that part. Then after a day of doing that I went to the range, and I went the recommended 200 round. I personally, with my MR920L had now issue. My personal opinion on ANY firearm and Trevor, the CEO of shadow systems said it best. To Some LEVEL and degree ALL firearms requires some level of a break-in. So for since February and now above 1,800 round into mine. No issues. Good luck with yours. Shadow systems customer service is great. So if you do, have an issue just call or email them.
@@jamesdelong6401 WOW, thank you so very much for the detailed steps you took and for the prompt response. I really appreciate it. That was very kind of you!
Lol great add 👍 I have an MR920L and a XR920 so I can swap the slides and have 4 different configurations to choose from. I agree with the negatives about the break in and the trigger. Lots of dry firing and loading/downloading the mags a few times helps with the break in. The trigger is nothing special, but luckily they are gen 4 triggers so there are endless choices. Aside from those two small gripes they are as good as a polymer frame striker fire gun can get.
After my experience with shadow systems I’d vote there is 0 justification in getting a Glock priced shadow systems. Just get a Glock gen 5 or a Walther PDP.
Thought about getting one but after talking with their people and watching their videos I decided no. Would have to replace their mag release due to their part being harder than stock Glock mags and in Trevor’s words it would essentially wear out the mag especially with a mag extension on it. This was confirmed by email. He also stated that they’ve had slides crack due to excessive dry fire and if you planned on doing a lot of dry fire to use snap caps. Seen lots of reports of strikers breaking as well. Just do your homework might have been just working out some bugs at that point. Both my Gen 5 Glocks had break in periods.
Great video!! I'm getting my 2nd gun (1st is a Sig xmacro) and wanted something that could flex from home defense but also use in competition and was wondering if you could make any recommendations on what guns you would recommend. Thanks for any help
My gen 5 19 outshoots my shadow all day. Surprises me as you would think otherwise. Disappointed and sold it. Don’t underestimate the G19. It outshoots many a more expensive gun. Always change sights ant put in extended mag release
I’m awfully content with my Gen 5s too…all mine run great, more accurate than me and just need good sights…and maybe Talon grips. I like my DR Elite but it’s had issues.
I needed 200 rounds without lubricant. I cleaned all the shit off. Seemed like It sheered off a lot of the top of the frame where the slide meets. Zeroed and it's my duty. MR920 Combat. I did need the (basically Glock) backstrap
Think I am gonna sell my MR920 Texas Cerakote tradition. It beats a Glock 19 but I have nicer pistols and need the dough. I figure I'll just buy an XR920P in a month or two and I won't miss the MR920.
I've been looking at getting a MR920 but I would like to get my hands on one to a feel the grip on it. I have a G17 and a Sig P320 and prefer the grip of a 320. I'm fine shooting the G17 but the G17 grip feels odd to me about it and I don't like it. Thank you for mentioning the backstraps and the detail around it.
When are you going to do a review on the CR920? By the way my name is David and I have a question for you. Have you ever run into anyone named David who wasn't a good-looking SOB?
I have had the CR920 for several months, at least 2,000 rounds through it until the tear trigger spring broke. An unusual problem I hope but there goes my carry gun bc it’s not an interchangeable part with any glock. It’s been at the shop waiting on a part for over a week and a half. I bought a used CZp10s and probably will put a red dot on it and have a great back up carry gun that may quickly move into first place over the War Poet. Just feels how a gun should feel…not cheap!
I shoot P320 variants in competition but I still think the best value in striker fired pistols is the CZ P10 series. With the OEM spring , my P10’s didn’t like low powered comp reloads , but apart from that they’ve had zero issues with over 15k rounds out of the box all OEM parts. . I don’t know why they’re not more popular as they’re bombproof , fast and accurate. I can only speak to the Czech made versions as I don’t have a US made one. Run hard immediately without a break in and the trigger is very crisp after a few thousand rounds .
The back strap system on the P10 series is dumb, the lack of support was annoying to me, and the fact the guns are a pain in the dick to work on if you wanted to. Does the P10F shoot well? Yeah, but so do other pistols that are easier to live with.
I had 3 cz sp-01’s all of them had issues, I will never buy another cz again. And the p10 is overrated trash compared to anything shadow systems makes.
Chic fil A comment got me rolling yes brother! Lmao that said… great video and if for no other reason i will be grabbing a shadow systems simply for the purpose that it’s made in the USA and not imported… don’t get me wrong. Stock glocks rock and my edc and go to is the 19x. Looking forward to putting the shadow systems xr920 combat through its paces and hopefully it will replace my 19x as my go to EDC. Thanks for the video and the laugh. Go BDE or don’t go at all! Cheers!
Man the difference in comments on this video compared to older Shadow Systems videos is alarming. In the past I used to see nothing but positive reports from people who had MR918 or earlier MR920 pistols, but as the brand had gained popularity I am starting to see more of a split in terms of peoples experiences. This really doesn't inspire confidence, and it makes me feel like it might be better to just go with Glock.
That's kind of the thing, some people believe innovation and features are significant, but that depends on the intended purpose of the gun. For a competition gun, sure, innovation is a must. For a self-defense/combat weapon, reliability and good QC is far more critical. Very few companies achieve the volume of production Glock has without compromising QC too much, it is clear Shadow System is starting to struggle with that. It is also fairly obvious SIG isn't doing that great in terms of QC with their newer products either. Same situation when comparing Aimpoint to Holosun and the like.
I have purchased 3 shadow systems in the last 2 months. My original dr920 I got 2 months ago I already have 3k rounds through and I am loving all of them. These are better than any gun hands down until you get into like the 1500$ range and staccato’s are available
That's were I'm at to..this isn't a budget gun its a MOS gun to just take away more glocks shares lol..I guess if these ended up for 399-429 maybe it be close but yeah not budget
Shadow Systems..... The only Glock shaped handguns I actually like. Everyone looks at me like I'm the weirdo at the range when I whip out my MR920 and yell "Only the Shadow Knows!!!"..... crap.... I'm old....
Omg the chick filet thing is so true, my daughters are 20 and 21 and they still want chick filet. On days I come home from my VA appointments I text them and see what the want , chick filet every time, not Sonic or Culver’s, even Mikey D’s would ok, but no chick filet. I saw a guy with a shadow system Glock at my IDPA match and now your video, I am interested for a CC gun , thank you for the review.
I like how they out-engineered Glock by reducing the spring channel allowing full-sized optic screws to the depth of the slide. Is it HumbleMarksman or Umble?..
One big question I have, Is the trigger guard on the Shadow Systems bigger than a stock Gock? A factory Glock trigger guard is so small that I can't shoot with gloves on. And I'm talking about thin Mechanix gloves.
@@lucastonoli3256 never had the chance to shoot one. I don't see them as glock clones though since they made hammer fired guns first, then moved to striker fired. I'm specifically talking about Glock clones that uses Glock parts.
@@Q.Lawrence I didn't say those are Glock clones but - then again - what gun would be a Glock clone after changing the lock-up system of all things? You're left with the impossible task of preserving whatever is left of part compatibility beyond sights and magazines.

The plus over the MOS is that the optic sits lower, the internals are redesigned and the screw have more material to dig into.
And the ergonomics are better on the SS. The gun is narrower which feels way better in the hand.

If I didn’t already have a gen 4 with a brownells slide for an optic I’d be heavily considering picking one up
I really hope the pressure from Sig, Shadow Systems, and others force Glock to innovate or update.
Yeb
Glock has added and deleted finger grooves over 40 years they wont innovate shit
Sig and Shadow have bad reliability issues. Glock doesn’t need to compete with that.
@@scobun what reliability issues are you referring to concerning the Shadow Systems guns?
@izaiah9241 You will probably never get a reasonable answer, as he can't provide one, of those 10 if not hundreds of reviews you will find on the SS platforms you won't find any reliability issues. The person you were replying too was simply talking out his ass.
My CR920 Combat runs like a sewing machine after the first 100 rounds. Had 2 stove pipes and that was it. I have 300 rounds now. Only had it two weeks and I need a holster so I can start carrying it.
Great video. I appreciate the breakdown in features and prices. I am interested in the MR920 Elite but I will consider other options.
Ha Ha we don't have Chick Fil A where we live. I hadn't even heard of them until I visited Texas.
Chick fil a comment spoke to the deepest parts of my soul and had to give th like and sub
The only thing I don't like is the extreme angle of the slide serrations. GLOCK needs a Gen6. As reliable as they are, they are not as receptive to design improvements as the MOS mounting proves. SS are becoming more appealing.
You are definitely one my favorite gun reviewer and I will continue to watch as long as you don’t compare your Bugatti to the 2011/1911 pistols you are reviewing or compare a grip to some um you know 🐈 😂
good job keep it up 👍
Wonder why they don't offset the slightly longer slide of the DR with a lighter recoil spring assembly for faster lock-up and slide travel.
100% my kids are picking Chick fil A given a choice. Maybe I will see you in one (here in North Texas) some day 🤣
I liked the video but want to see that new beretta carry optics gun!
Same
Have well over 20k on my mr920l.
Great pistol company. Love their customers service and their pistol. I have the MR920L
@@tonymarinelli7304 your welcome tony
My only gripe is I don't want the shadow systems optics system. I want direct cuts for the acro and 509t footprints
They are starting to do those so I hear
Sat a 509t green dot on a rmr adapter plate on my mr920. I wizh there was more 509t footprint cuts too
Lol great add 👍 I have an MR920L and a XR920 so I can swap the slides and have 4 different configurations to choose from.
I thought Trevor said the Foundation guide rod is carbon steel versus the stainless in the Combat and Elite.
To the Humble Marksman, what lube was that you’re using. It looks slightly thicker than CLP and I’m intrigued.
My 19 is very good - my shadows out shoot it from a pure accuracy standpoint - but it could very well be a tolerance stacking thing
I’m awfully content with my Gen 5s too…all mine run great, more accurate than me and just need good sights…and maybe Talon grips. I like my DR Elite but it’s had issues.
Both my shadow systems had issues. I prefer the og. The one that actually runs
I like the smooth barrel. Whish they offered that on the elites.
I needed 200 rounds without lubricant. I cleaned all the shit off. Seemed like It sheered off a lot of the top of the frame where the slide meets. Zeroed and it's my duty. MR920 Combat. I did need the (basically Glock) backstrap
Thumbs up for the Chick-Fil-A segment. Jesus man. 😆
Good video. I’ll stick with my Zev Hypercomp.
I've noticed a few guns do not like that sig ammo
Think I am gonna sell my MR920 Texas Cerakote tradition. It beats a Glock 19 but I have nicer pistols and need the dough.
I figure I'll just buy an XR920P in a month or two and I won't miss the MR920.
I am left handed. Can the Mag release button be switched around?
If i ever see a combat series optic cut mr920 then i would buy
Nobody likes a break in period but it’s normal for a lot of top manufacturers. Nothing to say about that.
I really want a one of their guns but I see lots of bad reviews so Im on the fence about it.
I've never had Chick Fil A. I hear it's good though. Thanks for the share!!
Heard too many people having issues with them. I’ll stick with my Honda Civic.
Been to Chickfila once. I was a passenger (hostage). The driver bought so i ate.
I believe the Vortex Viper fits.
Honestly, I can't rationalize the price when you can get a Walther PDP.
Well I'm glad we got that squared away...
When are you going to do a review on the CR920? By the way my name is David and I have a question for you. Have you ever run into anyone named David who wasn't a good-looking SOB?
The superior choice in names
I have had the CR920 for several months, at least 2,000 rounds through it until the tear trigger spring broke. An unusual problem I hope but there goes my carry gun bc it’s not an interchangeable part with any glock. It’s been at the shop waiting on a part for over a week and a half. I bought a used CZp10s and probably will put a red dot on it and have a great back up carry gun that may quickly move into first place over the War Poet. Just feels how a gun should feel…not cheap!
Rear trigger spring
Not trying to flex, while doing the MAHOMES 💪. JK. Great video. Love Shadow Systems.
I’m going to shoot the mr920L here in just minute I love it
As a fellow dad I go to chick-fil-a at least once a week every week...but I love it and yeah, sorry man.
Off topic, can you do a video on the gear you use to film yourself practicing? I want to know affordable options
Serious question in terms of "budget" Glock clones. Is the Foundation series still worth compared to the PSA Dagger which is still much cheaper?
That's were I'm at to..this isn't a budget gun its a MOS gun to just take away more glocks shares lol..I guess if these ended up for 399-429 maybe it be close but yeah not budget
Should I get this or Walther pdp?
As always..great video
Shadow Systems..... The only Glock shaped handguns I actually like. Everyone looks at me like I'm the weirdo at the range when I whip out my MR920 and yell "Only the Shadow Knows!!!"..... crap.... I'm old....
Looks interesting 👍 what the cost 900$or so?
I love my Shadow Systems Pistols. They both impress me and have had 0 malfunctions on several thousand rounds.
Lol okay if you say so. 🙄
@@TheHandHistoryVault not even a light primer strike.
@@B0N3ZNP3WZ There's always 💩 that smells less.
How is the recoil compared to the Walther PDP? I found the PDP to be snappier than the Springfield Armory Hellcat.
As a CZ owner, that gap between the slide and frame is so repulsive to me. This is referring to all Glocks and Glock clones.
OCD ….I got it too. You can fit a quarter through it.
One big question I have, Is the trigger guard on the Shadow Systems bigger than a stock Gock? A factory Glock trigger guard is so small that I can't shoot with gloves on. And I'm talking about thin Mechanix gloves.
I don't know why, but I wonder if any of these glock clone companies will implement a rotating barrel design.
I wish
Have you looked into Grand Power pistols?
@@lucastonoli3256 never had the chance to shoot one. I don't see them as glock clones though since they made hammer fired guns first, then moved to striker fired. I'm specifically talking about Glock clones that uses Glock parts.
@@Q.Lawrence I didn't say those are Glock clones but - then again - what gun would be a Glock clone after changing the lock-up system of all things? You're left with the impossible task of preserving whatever is left of part compatibility beyond sights and magazines.
@@lucastonoli3256 My question was based on a rumor of a Glock with the rotating barrel design. I haven't checked on that since there was a "leak". That gave me the sense that it's a possibility, especially since Glock does very little to change their design.
Haha. I know that range where the video was taken. ;-)
That's my range too
I wish shadow made this in the mr920L model. I’d buy that all day. I spoke with shadow customer service and they said no one wants the foundation in mr920L. Disappointed.
which self defense ammo did the DR920 end up liking?
I must have got a lemon......DR920P......big time trigger issues and unacceptable groups out past 20 yards. Sent it back for warranty work. I had 600 rounds through it when I sent it back. We will see if they get it working. I could have bought a Rival and a case of ammo for what I paid for this gun. I want to like this gun.......we,ll see.
