Without schematics, it's all a cat and mouse game. I refused a Playstation the other day which I suspect was an APU issue but couldn't be certain without anything to reference the board against. Right to repair is more important than ever.

Hi. The southbridge ic is not married to the Apu and you can easily replace it with the donor one. One polish guy had the console you was working on and he did replace the southbridge ic and it worked.

26:01 isn’t pad on Row 6 Column 1 Oxidized as well? Was near the 1st pad did on this chip at Row 3 Column 4…..if not an oxidized pad, maybe a ghost image 🤷🏼♂️….or doesn’t do anything….

What if you try putting the Southbridge that had oxidized pads back onto the donor board and see if that will fix the donor board.

Given the amount of oxidation on the chip, would that be the reason it was showing a short?
Aparently that is a common fault on ps5's.This week alone i received 5 ps5 alone with this faults. All clients told me they had blackouts. I had a ps5 that i replaced a fan(yes already) and i tried that working power supply on all 5 ps5 they didnt do anything, then i tried all other 5 power supplys on the working ps5,they were all bad.
All fuses were good on the 5 ps5, sad thing is that most of those consoles have warraty with sony but are people that bought from scammers.
These ps5 are so bad in quality, ive been receiving them for
Fans,bad ssd,hdmi port,controllers with drift,r2 button mostly non functioning.
And worst they have like a 100 srcews.
So far only a series s with bad power supply,no series x and no ps5 digital
So PS5 motherboard's quality is cheaper than $50 budget pc motherboard? lmao. PS2 still works a charm after more than a decade.

I have a ps5 I replaced the hdmi port soldering is good no missing components when i plug it in I get ps5 hdmi 1 but no signal. what would be wrong?
The zenor diode or C1 diode, maybe the power ic chip (marked 15jL) it has 6 legs, it's right near the HDMI port on the bottom side) and finally,it could be the encoder chip(check the caps around the encoder chip)
I'd love to do this kind of repair but I lack the patience necessary to do it properly.

I didn't on this but I do believe just because of the symptom change after replacing the southbridge it was definitely that at fault

Couldn't you get a stencil made for putting the solder balls onto for your South bridge you could probably make one

No unfortunately the console should turn on without the fan. I did confirm at the end of the video that even with the console fully reassembled it didn't turn on
The South Bridge is not married to the board because in some cases we replaced the southbridge and the PS5 works fine , what I know from this video there is a short under the APU which mean a dead APU
You're right, the southhbridge isn't married. I did address this in a later video, but you're wrong about it being a dead APU. I fixed this in a later video

dude , this is the law of competition . Now that Nintendo and Sega are no more "serious" competitors, Sony is ready to take any risk to sell more consoles than Microsoft and its Xbox, even if they know some consoles will fail quickly

Sony have this reputation of very suspect initial revisions of thier playsation systems they usually get better as is natural but by this point you'd think they would have got thier act together to have better 1st revisions but no PS5 is no different.
since PS5s aren't easy to come by i myself am waiting till a proper hardware revision is released that changes alot for the better before i get one, its too risky right now.
Another Question is this the first model or the 2nd model I wondered if they have changed that.
I don't think the southbridge changed between revisions because it seems they both use the EDM-010 board

No not fake. When we first started seeing bad southbridges they were always accompanied by other issues. If you look for my video titled "I Finally Fixed The Unfixable PS5" you'll see where I discovered I was wrong in my initial thinking ;)

Hi Phil. I’m not sure if my question is controversial but I always wonder whether you feel safe using leaded solder? It seems to be your preferred type of solder but it does not seem that you have any ventilation going when working with it thus risking inhaling lead. I understand the difference in the temperature needed to melt them but I see other people using some kind of ‘low melt solder’ that sounds like it’s free from lead. I read an article regarding the differences written by a technician earlier this year that I found quite interesting but I can’t find it at the moment. I will post it if I do manage to find it as it would be interesting to hear your feedback on it as it seems you have a clear preference here. Perhaps you should talk about it in a video or at least warn viewers about the dangers when you use leaded solder as I think most people aren’t aware of how dangerous it can be if you’re working with the stuff often or are just plain unlucky with your tolerance to the stuff.
I mean nothing negative with this comment, I just find it an interesting and important topic to people thinking about starting doing soldering work themselves. Thank you for putting up all these interesting videos! :)

Quick question… my ps5 beeps twice when I hook up the power code, then nothing. Which shows it receives some power, but does nothing after. Is it toasted??
Same. I get 3 fast beeps upon plugging in.. That's all. It's like pressing the eject button when theres no disk.. when I press power, I get nothing.

I wasn't testing for voltage at that time. I was indicating how I knew a component was reading as shorted without having to use diode, resistance or continuity mode. If you're in vtahe mode and your reading drops to 0mv the leads are essentially nulled, which means they're basically touching together. That indicates that the input of the component has a direct path to ground, which would indicate a short

No disrespect to you, but why don’t people use the warranty if it breaks. if it is out of warranty then definitely use someone like your self but why risk it when they will give you a new one. As long as it hasn’t been opened up.
Warranty claims can be a hassle. Also, if you caused it (dropped, liquids etc) the warranty claim will be difficult.
I bought my ps5 from a scalper, so warranty isn't really an option for me
I fully agree. Some people buy them from scalpers though (like this one) and Sony refuse warranty on them. I didn't know that until after this video was released but it's something that needs discussing

Only on those two channels I've seen fixing stuff with an oscilloscope. I don't use it too often, but that was the reason why I've stick to them :).

As long as it fits its fine. I use .5mm too if I'm out of .45mm and they work fine

They still in warranty but you only get the money no new console. No stock no console so many people try to fix for that.

Not really. Sony repair centres have an allocated amount of units, separate from retail stock, to replace if needed. I had to send mine twice to warranty and they sent me a different one each time.
Paying for a fix while still in warranty is not a good choice.
If you go to the store where you but, you got the money, no console, if you have a PlayStation service nearby (many people do not know they exist, they give you a remanufactured one) paying shipping + insurance that is expensive. (They see get repair your ps5 for xx/€£$ and is less they go to repair)

@@yoyomismo2052 I just called sony and paid nothing. I sent it to them and got it back, all shipping costs covered by them. Going through the store it's the same, they send it to sony and the same process aplies.
So besides ps5 having a soldered sdd, which no one knows if it can be replaced, owing to security measures, how to clone original data to a new sdd which needs to be soldered in the first place to copy data, on xbox you can connect a new sdd to an adapter and access its contents, and clone it to a replaceable sdd, the ps5 besides that, has a married Southbridge to the motherboard, what a stupid move from Sony, really what a rubbish system, these ps5 are meant to be durable for 2 years an bin them, avoid it at all costs.

As an IT Engineer, I've brought up with Sony my concerns with the same problem. I told Sony this is like buying a console with a time bomb waiting to go off at any moment but when? However, I do have a solution, not a fixable one but a software one and that is when you set up the PS5 to set it up as Low Power Mode. No remote access, no internet when then to standby mode. Thisvthenblimitsctge amount of power to the console also prolongs the life of the console at the same time.
WHY USE LPM and why I recommend everybody do the same and switch your power settings to these settings as a software fix that is built into the console. It isn't a fix as such but it does hopefully prolongs the console and so down the inevitable that this chap has mentioned in his video.

Ps4 is the best
PS5 is the only console I wouldn't bother with trying to repair unless it's an easy issue or an hdmi or other port repair. I just don't really trust the system stability and I would be worried the repaired consoles would end up coming back.
My ps5 stopped playing PS5 games and would just power off after a few min. Had to pull the mains from the back and let it sit for 10 seconds or it wouldn't come back on. PS4 games worked fine tho. Luckily It was under warrantee and Sony replaced the motherboard and drive. Not sure there was any other way to fix that issue.
I actually have one in the queue which seems to have the same fault. I'll be looking into it some time soon
LIke every electronic thing, it has flaws or certain amount of % failures. Switch has also issues.
Considering how PlayStation 5 is I noticed many of them in need of repairs evidently they must be junk you think PlayStation would build their products a little bit better that last longer considering the amount of money you have to pay for the damn thing evidently you just pay for the name the product itself is junk that's too bad PlayStation 5 evidently got sour
