    It's not 'borderline' illegal, it actually _is_ illegal. Giveaways in the United States are regulated by the same laws that regulate _lotteries and gambling._ Making someone _lose_ when they would have _won_ is called 'game rigging' and it is _super_ illegal. There have been countless companies like this in the gaming/creator space for a decade now. But most of them have gotten away with screwing smaller creators overs. It's never talked about because they usually hold leverage and the bigger creators are treated so well that the positive voices are too loud. It usually takes years for bad practices to surface, but usually when it's too late or the company is gone. We got to see this one in real time and that's insane!

      To be fair they did say it was a giveaway for their ambassadors. The person who won was an ambassador but didnt do anything within their means to actually work as one. Now, does that make it in the right for the company? No not really because no one was really aware of that I don't think. It honestly would have been avoided if the guy didn't come off so snarky. Most people are throwing vitriol because he seems like he's being an asshole. If this was all done behind closed doors with no one knowing anything, nothing would have happened.
      That probably does speak about the dude's ego though. At the same time, I don't think this one thing should mean the whole company should crumble and collapse entirely. However there's also a point to be made that it having caused that in the first place would deter other companies from doing the same thing. BUT, that could also possibly make it known to make sure instead to do this kind of thing behind closed doors, enabling the issue anyway. It's a really funky situation.

      Yeah I'm surprised too about this. Cuz usually when companies does shitty things there's always that core fanbase that will not leave no matter how much they treat their fanbase/customers like garbage. Most of the time there's a big enough chunk of apologists in the fanbase that the company can continue to have bullshit practices and get away with it each time. So I'm glad that for once enough people just instantly boycotted them that they couldn't even continue operation. This is first time I have seen something like this. I'm proud that the fanbase realized the power that they have as paying customers/supporters and did a group effort to shut this bullshit down. Good job!

    • @jmal
      @jmal 2 роки тому +7

      @@zebnemma I think it also depends on company longevity and size. A company as large as, say, Activision Blizzard, would still have a loyal fanbase despite all the controversy they generated because, in addition to their aforementioned size, they've been in the industry for a long time and have garnered a nigh-ironclad, mostly positive reputation. I don't know enough about Artesian Builds' history, but something tells me they're a small player compared to competing brands like Falcon Northwest, NXZT, or Digital Storm; and the thing that sets them apart is their whole giveaway and live streaming shtick.
      When they're that small and that young of a company, they can't afford any PR disasters like what their CEO did because their core customer base hasn't connected with them long enough for them to forgive any wrongdoing.
