They will never synthesize the sweet tone of the bassoon...
For who is looking for something closer to a cello, follow this, leave both synths at the same octave. Then use a filter to cut out some of the really electronic saw sound. You end up with something that honestly sounds like a cello for low notes. A little less realistic in the higher notes.
I really enjoyed this! I made a violin in serum before, but I did it in a much different way. I primarily used the reverb filter to get the sound I wanted.

to all those looking for a more realistic sound, change the from a square to a rounder wave like SawRounded and you'll get a more realistic effect. Add some compression to bring it out. I played around with it and got a lot more realism from this technique.

it needs an enveloped lp filter and some kind of way to remove the perfect harmonic structure of saw waves(maybe fm or different wavetables). patch is on the correct route though

Adding a reverb/comb filter to these kinds of sounds adds the resonating sound of physical instruments. Also an attack on the filter can be applied for string and brass type sounds.

In FM8 there's a default preset called "Violins" and it's probably the most realistic Violin sound that has been ever made by synthesis. Just check it out.
