This type of reese is a modern descendant of the original, authentic reese bass. It is called a reese bass because the artist was called Reese(aka Kevin Saunderson) on a track called "Just Another Chance". You can almost perfectly imitate the original reese bass by using 2 triangle waves detuned against one another roughly 35 cents in opposing directions, add a sub to give it some weight, and use a low pass filter. You can play with different waveforms, add distortion, use resampling and various other techniques to generate a more modern "filthy" sort of reese. Although i'm more fond of the authentic reese myself, it's always nice to hear one nonetheless. For anyone that's interested anyway lol.
dude, as someone who's really annoyed by many tutorials in youtube, yours is super helpful. you show the sound in the beginning, and you explain the process really well. thank you.
Dude you are so much better at explaining your process and the synth you built then most of the people here on UA-cam. Been an audio engineer for 8+ years so I know all the terminology but tons of these people slap "Beginner tutorial" or some shit in their headline then rush through what they built while word vomiting audio engineer terminology. Appreciate the video bud
Damn, sick explanation man! I much prefer tutorials that go into the "theory" behind sounds and encourage the viewer to explore the concept instead of just copy/pasting values. Well done!
Really.. really... really helpful and clear. Normally I skip to the bit where I can copy the settings, but on this video, I kept jumping back to see what you had to say. Then I just went to the start and watched it through entirely and learnt loads.
I love tutorials like this because they show you the dynamics of how the sound is made. i can't afford serum so tutorials that teach me the dynamics of the sound and how to apply them are very transferable and help a lot. thanks!
You should check out Eastghost. A lot of his songs have the really gritty and wide Reese basses that sound beautiful. Charons Cacophony, Magnolia, and Omniscient, They are great examples.
Hey man, this is was a great tutorial! Definitely one of the better reese basses in comparison to other tutorials. Only thing i can't figure out is how to get it to go faster in terms of movement on the lower octaves, the fastest i can get it by playing with the macro on for example F3 is still pretty slow, do you know how to fix that? Thanks anyway man
Do you have any packs on your website that have Reese basses or Hardwave presets in them? I was looking around, but I wasn't sure which packs to invest in.
UA-cam was never quite career material for me, it was simply something that I enjoyed doing in highschool (when I had the time). And when I graduated and had to get multiple jobs, other things in my life started to stack up and time for setting up, recording, and editing videos unfortunately fell behind. I appreciate everyone who enjoyed the Spektral Sound uploads
We as Ghosthack are extremely proud to say that Will from Spektral Sound is now a huge part of our company :) He still does killer sound design tutorials (only on another channel) and he can also pour his creativity into our sample libraries. We are more than happy to have him in our team ♥ 👍
I literally don't understand. I followed along EVERYTHING, even to the point of having percentages the same, and mine lacks significant bass weight in comparrision? I have the same octaves and everything... I'm so annoyed/confused
Kinda late to answer, but audio quality in youtube is low compared to serum, so maybe low quality works as an exciter in this case. Try importing as mp3, maybe that way there be more bass
brooo I just needed a reese bass bruhhhhh 😵😵 how do you know what we need 🔥🔥🔥
Cause everyone needs a reece

Great tip on the 2 osc being a sine wave
The Note tracking on the low pass filter is genius! Never would've thought of that, great tutorial.
Thank you!
Yes he also could’ve just turned on the filter and clicked key tracking
I love your explanation! I didn’t skip at all. I think the technical explanation adds depth to the knowledge
Wow, been wondering how to control the phase oscillations like this. Those macros on the fine tune and the start work wonders! Thank you.
Your tutorials are the best of em
I really like your way of explaining. Really clear and concise without any of that obnoxious UA-cam personality bullshit.
thank you so much man

hey guys is this the same as growl bass?
why did he stop with spectral sound or whatever that name of the channel was?
@@OfficialQuerppMusic kinda sad tbh... i prefered spectral sounds bc he was a little on the edgy side over there
He’s employed by ghost hack, and he does still post music it’s just not as frequent rn!

i don't know why but the default serum bass noise with the saw waves makes me physically uncomfortable. is that normal lmao
This makes my ears hurt so much lol
