For once I had almost all my cymbals in one place at the same time, so better use the opportunity and capture the rides to the same video.
Well some of them are technically crashes or crash rides, but since I use all of these for riding purposes, I wanted to include them too.
I'm especially pumped about the brand new 21" Sweet ride which is sounding already really mature and extremely sweet. No need to play in this one. I've also had couple of Sweet rides before too, but they were bit heavier. This one is one of the lightest I've tested, and definitely the best one I've come across.
Thank you so much for actually crashing on your rides. So many people with similar videos forget to do this. Also, thanks for the variety of playing styles. Most ride videos are just people playing jazz patterns. Thanks again.
I know exactly what you mean. Crash sounds is super important to me, so I like to demo that too.
The comment that I was looking for.

22 K Dark Medium. The best compromise
check the k custom medium ride
must differ from cymbal to cymbal, mine has an amazing crash on it
The 22" K Dark Medium is my favorite ride cymbal by far, and I am very lucky to have one myself. I have seven other ride cymbals in my collection, but this one is up on my kit most of the time, and it is the one I take to my gigs as well.
Also got one. There's nothing that cymbal can't do.
I owned it. I sold it. I regret it.
20 90s k Constantinople was the best sound for me
The best cymbal comparison video I've seen. And I've seen a lot of them lol
Thanks' for taking the time to post this video!
Very helpful for those of us looking for a specific 'ride sound'!
Thanks! I have another one actually, 9 hand made rides compared. I changed brand this year and started using danish Funch cymbals that I feel are really amazing. Check them out too! 😉

Lots of great sounds and great playing. Love that 20" Constantinople!
22 k dark medium ride .Awesome !
The 21" Sweet Ride 😍😍😍
Demetrius Conley I got one of those it's my favorite out of all my cymbals.
I knoww I think I might get one
I got the 21" Brilliant Sweet Ride. Fuckin' love it! Such a diverse cymbal.
Such an awesome ride! Great bell, great crash ability and a good ride sound as well! Love it!
That breakbeat ride is freaking awesome. Great video!
Really like the stick definition and ping on the 20” Constsantinople that you can clearly hear over cymbal volume.
That A Sweet Ride still takes the cake!
The 20 A medium blows em all away, whether it's dynamic capabilities or versatility across different music.... just pure cymbal sound and not sounding like a metal can. Most of all these other cymbals fall flat in one way or another, and are strictly a specialty cymbal, so any drummer with a musical ear would still need a Zildjian medium A type ride cymbal on their set along with one of these other ride cymbals to complete their sound.
Zildjan is god tier.
These are incredible cymbal testing videos. I am astonished at how much bad product content there is out there… I could watch stuff like this for hours… especially as someone who is looking to upgrade their cymbals and really discover their own sound this video will make zildjan money
Just bought the A Sweet Ride and I love it
Nice drumming! Dark Med is lovely
Best zildjian ride is the 21” K sweet ride. Same as the A sweet bit SLIGHTLY darker. Best cymbal ever
Great video, thanks man! I really enjoy the Breakbeat ride ))
Great review and demo.
Great selection.
Merry Christmas Mark! I really enjoyed your playing man. Those cymbals sound great, but your chops make them sound better. Also enjoyed the sound and tuning of your kit. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! ❤️☮️
Thank you Mat! Merry Christmas to you too!
By the way, did you check this cymbal comparison that I recently did?
ua-cam.com/video/YALKK8TQi7c/v-deo.html
Loved them all except for the last Oriental Crash of Doom.
I have a 22K Custom Dark Medium and I just bought the 18A Crash-Ride.
great video, really good playing too
Your kit sounds great!
I like the breakbeat! So precise sounding.
I do know one thing:If one is going for the definitive 'Black Sabbath' Big Wash? It's that '20 A Medium. But all of them are exquisite complex rides that make great washy crashes from a dirty shimmer to a bright swell. With nice integrated two toned bells. The 'Breakbeat' being the exception of course being so pointed and bone dry. I like that one for how it sounds either way. Zildjian has a sound for EVERYTHING! With 'Body' and 'Undertone'.
Bill Ward was a beast musically as well as an all out powerhouse. If Zildjian Medium A was his sound, there's not a drummer in the world who can down talk that cymbal. As for most all these other cymbals in the vid, they're either flat, cheap metal sounding or not versatile in dynamics between the bell to the outer edge of cymbal.
Nice job on the demo-that Renaissance is a dark dream!👍
i watched the whole video but hearing the 1st cymbal which is the k dark med. ride was enough. thats the Sound i want!
Yeah, it's a very nice cymbal! It is the best that I have heard among bit thicker, medium type cymbals, although I have heard some bit thicker individuals that were not nearly as nice.
I actually have 2 of these, and they are just enough different so I can justify keeping both, but on the other hand it feels bit silly to have 2 of the exact same model. :D
nice! how does it compare to the k cons?
which k con? They are all kinda different.
I would say that the K Dark Medium would have more cut than the K Cons, and possibly a slightly brighter tone as well. My K Dark Medium, however, is much darker than the one in this video, so it is no brighter than the K Cons I have played on, but the difference in volume is still there.
.. Good vid,.. And drums sound ace,.. Excellent tuning,.. :o)
Constantinople were my favorite! Thanks for the video btw!
The 22" Kerope reminds me a lot of the Istanbul Tony Williams ride.
I even play the video...i just stay repeating the intro...was amazing! xD
I have a K con renaissance 22 at home, it’s my go to, it’s just so lush, and fits most of the playing styles I partake in, especially my big band, studio, and musical theatre work. I love the K dark medium 22, might be popping down to the store to check it out properly 😎 £Lots
Just picked up a K Sweet Ride 21". Beautiful and as sweet as your 21"A. Your A 20 medium ride is one of the better ones I have heard. Great video. I love the tuning of your drums. What are they? And what mics are you using? Many thanks
Thank you Stamp Jockey! Have gotten a K sweet ride also since the video was made, that's a really nice cymbal too.
The drums are 70's Gretsch's 12,13 and 16 and the kick is probably 22 on this one (have a 20 inch bass drum too in the same finish). No mics on the kit just the sound of the Zoom Q4 videocamera over the kit, and bit of enhancing with Logic Pro. Mainly bringing up the bottom end a bit, since the camera has quite small diaphragm mics.
markkuliini I would agree with Stamp Jockey. This made me want to appreciate my A 20 Medium more haha. It’s been with me a while. I may bury it in the backyard but that’s a different story.. are you using Diplomats or Ambassadors? Really a pretty nice sound for that camera too! I was on the fence and feel pretty confident in that purchase now as well. Thanks for the vid!
Forget the ride cymbals, that's just nice playing
20 A Medium Ride, the most versatile and complete.
Excellent comparison. Cymbals still vary a good bit from copy to copy. I recently compared the A and K 21 " sweet rides at a store that had multiple copies. To my surprise one of the A sweet rides had a lower pitch than the K and both had a similar complex wash sound. My favorite in this comparison was the 20" Constantinople. I tend to play small ensemble jazz so I will close and say that perhaps all of these cymbals are excellent and the selection depends on the type of music you tend to play.
👍Zildjian 21'sweet ride a medium ride🥁
Awesome cymbal comparison video! The real question I have though is, what snare are you using?
Thanks for the comment and question! The snare is a Yamaha Roy Haynes signature. It's a hammered copper drum in 14" x 5,5" size.
What king of flams you play? Where can I find notes to learn? So cool )
Constantinople all day
Cool ride cymbals.
I like the 22" Constantinople and the 21" Dry ride - both not tested.
The first two cymbals could cover all rides purposes as far as I understand (maybe except of some smooth jazz)
That 22” Kerope!
I love the K dark medium and have owned 3. My fav all around. The only problem is those deep grooves, and fairly heavy weight, make it a little prone to cracking - at least mine. I've broken two (a nearly invisible crack deep in the grooves that then buzzes). And I'm very far from a hard hitter. So I basically baby the one good one I still. I like the 21 K Custom Dry Ride as my next favorite Zildjian for all around. The crash of doom btw is a blast and great for all sorts of things.
Wow, holy smokes. Good to know. I have broken only 1 cymbal in over 20 years, and that was actually the Crash of Doom you can see here too. But I bought it 2nd hand and the crack appeared on one of the deep bends that the cymbal has, so I didn't blame myself for it. Got it fixed right away, so it didn't spread.
I luckily have 2 of K Dark Mediums, both intact so far. But I'll keep them under surveillance, especially if I start hearing buzzing. :)
This is the sexiest video on the internet. That Constantinople is a beauty. Great playing my friend.
Those cymbals must owe him money
Kerope 20 rules.
Awesome video! I’m thinking of getting a Constantinople mmmmm 🥞
I LIKE THE 22 INCH DARK MEDIUM RIDE AND THE 21 INCH A CUSTOM SWEET RIDE CYMBAL BECAUSE IS SO COOL YO YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!😍😍😍😍😍
Constantinople, undoubtedly. The Zildjian masterpiece.
Just bought a 22 ride and hihat these things are amazing
Just came across this video. I own a Constantinople Renaissance ride , a bounce ride and the 24 K light ride (not gloating, there is a point). I spent all this mad money on cymbals and my favourite cymbal which I cannot part with is my Oriental crash of Doom, I love it. It's great for rock crunch riffs, punctuating notes, and playing as a secondary ride. Love it, it's my beloved ugly duckling.
We have like minds sir. I'm playing 14" KCon hats, a 20" Crash of Doom, and a 24" K Light Ride. Mind blowing, all of them. I used to have 14/20/22 Istanbul AGOP cymbals, and a full set of Sabian HHX Evolution cymbals, but this setup is the way forward in my book. I'm thinking that maybe one more higher pitch crash will complete the set. Maybe a 16 or 18" KCon crash. It is good to have something quick and light with shorter sustain right off the snare/hi-hat/rack tom triangle, and the Crash of Doom off the ride and floor tom for a big crash after a big fill, or as a slightly quicker, more delicate secondary ride (though I would not categorize the COD as delicate by any means). Thoughts? Any experience with either of those and this setup? Cheers ~SA
@@spenceradkisson5192 I just bought a 22 costantinople overhammered light ride, got it at a good price after selling my 20 bounce ride. It sounds great as a crash and ride. My advice would be to look at the 19 K dark crash OR the new Avedis line. Their rides make great crashes if that's your thing. I prefer using rides, more versatile and dark. Hope that helps.
@@damnnargles Thanks Dan. That sounds a lot like the 20" Istanbul AGOP 30th Anniversary ride I used to have. It was a great left-side ride, and served double-duty as a great crash too. I'm not sure how I can get my hands (sticks) on a 19" K dark crash or an Avedis crash short of buying one. I live in a black hole for music shops. There is nothing within at least a two hour's drive from me to be able to try them out. It's all online sleuthing. Honestly, the Avedis looked and sounded pretty good from what I had seen online. A good crash/ride akin to the 60's or 70's era Zildjian A crash/rides. Hmmm.... sounds interesting. Thanks for the quick response. Happy drumming!
Great Comparison: the 22 con is a hell of a ride !!
My fave is the 22" Kerope, so sweet sounding then the 90's Constantinople and the break beat ride but honestly they all sound great! Nice Gretsch by the way, 14"-20" kick?
good vid n idea good job mark
Zildjian start producing Constantinople 98'. I have 22" medium thin high from 2004 and is my main cymbal.
Demo is cool, but man you play great! Love the legit shuffles!
Great video :) Does the dark medium get much gig time ? And what sort of musical situations do you use it for ? thanks
Impresionante el Sweet Ride, interesante el Brekbeat.El crash del Oriental Crash of Doom es muy bueno pero algo triste, va más para efectos y no llega a ser muy versátil. buen video.
The constantinople ride 20' is awesome!
How many grams does your sweet ride weight
I've also had several and yours sounds great !!
Hi Tom! Unfortunately I haven't weighted it, but it's definitely lightest one I've come across.
I've actually had about 5 Sweet rides before, all ok, but none great. Sold them all during the years, trying to find the perfect one. This over was sitting in a drum shop in Stockholm, it looked like a brand new cymbal, but it was a customer return. 😳 I couldn't believe it! Someone had bought this gem, didn't like the sound and brought it back. Had to buy it instantly.
This is by far the best modern A ride I've heard, it's way better than any other Sweets I previously had.
Congratulations for the video! What kind of microphone did you use?
Thanks Edgard! I used the Zoom Q4 videocamera and it's own microphone.
6:37 What did you play right here??? I've been trying to figure it out for 5 mins, its such a sexy fill; kinda goes one way then the other way.
Thank you! Have you noticed the speed button in UA-cam? You can slow down videos, and that makes it much easier to figure out fills/solos.
(I mean you are so awesome markkulini!)
Nice playing on this vid, props. Some cymbals I like better then others but by n by they're really all purty good. Just when I think I like this one I say to myself oh that sounds good too.
The Kerope suits your drums bro
I always thought that if you were only allowed to have 1 cymbal, the Sweet Ride is that 1 Ride.
Sound pretty universal. Default ride tone
hey bro gud sounds, What kind of drumsticks are you using?
Diego Pajuelo They are my signature sticks by Regal Tip. Which means that are 9A-model with my name printed on them. :-D
great playing , all cymbals sound great, also love the kit/toms sound, which Remo heads? thanks
Thank you Jim! Can't remember for sure, but 95% out of time it's really basic heads, coated ambassador on rack toms, coated emperor on floor tom and bass drum batters. Coated it clear ambassadors on reso sides.
Curious about the weight on the 20" K Constantinople.
Drums sound nice, too. What are the models, toms and a snare?
Drum kit is vintage Gretsch from late 70's, 12",13", 16", 22". And the snare is Yamaha signature Roy Haynes model. It's hammered copper 14"x5,5" I think.
VERY HELPFUL. THX
Great cymbals AND drums!!!...Where do you live?...I just wanna talk #Rimshot
Thanks! I live in Stockholm, Sweden.
@@markkuliini 😃
I owned a 22" Dark Medium ride. Did not sound as good as yours, Was very trash canny. Love yours.
Mike McGill Thanks Mike! I actually have 2 of these, and they are just enough different to justify keeping them both. I think they are both on the lighter end of the scale, but one is more trashy and one is clearer. Just don't remember which one ended up to this video.
But you are right, the model is one of those cymbals, that the good ones are really good and then relatively small changes can make the next one pretty unpleasant sounding. I actually had one Dark Medium about 10 years ago, but that was way too thick for my taste, and I sold it fast.
These 2 I have now, I happened to find second hand almost back to back, thinking that I would sell the one I like least. But I just can't seem to do it. :-)
Sweet ride = best for any situation
That armand ride is awesome
What is the weight of the K Dark Medium Ride 22" of the video?
Awesome.
Just curious, does the oriental crash of doom come Dented like that?
Mike McGill
Yeah, they are hammered in to a wavy form, to get that really trashy and low Chinese crash-type of sound. On my cymbal thereis also a small cut away. I managed to crack it, but noticed it right away and got it fixed. The cut is so small that I didn't notice any change in the sound. It's right next to the Zildjian text.
20" Constantinople ( mid 90's ) The Best
21 sweet
Great video. What did you use to record?
vxla Thanks buddy! It's recorded with Zoom Q4.
they all have there own place and voice.but for a all around do it all ride.you can't beat the 20 inch medium avedis ride.
Whats the “subtitle” of the 20” constantinople?
There is none. It's one of the early ones without any model indicators.
I like the 20 inch a custom medium ride and the 18 inch a custom crash ride and the 22 inch constantinople renaissance ride and the 20 inch a custom armand ride
no k light?
Not anymore. Had both 24" and 22" but didn't find use for them in the end.
22" was actually really nice and pretty sounding, one of the really thin ones, but it was maybe bit too washy and unclear to be used in real life situations.
24" was too low pitched for my taste and drag to carry, so I sold it onward quite fast.
Good stuff.What the snare?
qwerrewq qwerrewq, it's Yamaha's Roy Haynes-signature.
Thanks
I see you have a stock Yamaha remo head there… did you pick up some NOS?
Charles Mastin, yeah, good eyes you got there.
I actually found this new head on the discount pile at local drum shop. I think it was from a kit that was used on a clinic and clinician endorsed different brand and had used other heads.
Brand new head for 3€, yes please.
markkuliini I didn't mention it but fantastic playing and nice trainers. I have a RH and I love the full bodied darkness. Never selling it! Not even to acquire a few of these lovely rides.
Everybody's talkin' cymbals while them tom tuning aint gettin no cred..
Constantinople all the way!!
What is the gram weight of your sweet ride?
Angelina Folken
Hi, thanks for asking. I haven't weighted it, and I don't have a scale at home, so I can't tell. But it's definitely on the lighter side if not the lightest I have come across. My educated guess would be around 2400 grams, but this is only a guess.
Good drummer!
I had the Armand ride and sold it on ebay like the dummy I am. why?
22 kerope wow
No A Custom?
No A-custom rides in my possession at the moment. I actually
have a memory of hearing a really good one on a gig when I was just starting out, and I have been on trying to find similar one over 20 years now. :-D
So I've owned maybe 3 or 4 A custom rides, and tested at least 25 more, but none of them have been making that much impact. I think that I just had undeveloped ear then, and I got impressed quite easily.
I really love A custom crashes, but hats and rides lack bit of definition in my opinion. They sound bit too wet. They are OK, but I want my rides to be great. ;-)
For me the best is série kérope
What is the drum set?
I'm guessing Gretsch Renown? I love the sound!
Plus great drumming! What a good video. Well done!
Hi Nicolas! The kit on this video is 70's Gretsch kit. 12,13 and 16 toms and 20x14 bass drum. I agree, it's a great kit!
@@markkuliini Great, thanks for the reply -- and what are the heads?
@@nicolasderuiter1699 don't remember exactly, but very likely Remo coated ambassadors on rack toms and Remo coated emperor on the floor tom. Either coated or clear ambassadors on the bottom.
The bass drum is probably coated emperor on the batter and coated ambassador on the reso side.
So, quite basic head choices here.
(You are so awesome
Why is he crashing these rides so much? They all have good bell and crash sounds! But soft wash overs when you just ride the cymbals. Bring back the Ping ride please.
Honestly, the thickest and pingiest rides on this video have the most definition that I ever want to hear. Medium weight or less for me.
I really dislike anything pingier, so you need to find the ping rides on some other videos.
They have not gone anywhere, still easily available. Just not for me.
It's a cymbal, that's why
Very well said Atilla! :)
Old , vintages. Flats.and thin....I am .looks for.i name on it ....soon.20 inches. Done
