What is your favourite roguelike/roguelite on the Switch? There truly are some fantastic ones available. Let us know in the comments. Happy gaming. Glen
It may still be full of bugs, but Swords of Ditto is my favorite roguelite. Love the graphics and weapons mechanics, and it's just so satisfying to play through!
My favourite has to be Isaac Afterbirth+, the depth of content and themes of the game make it my number 1. A game that I've put 600 hours into on my PC, it's possibly my favourite game of all time (despite some brutal achievements). Slay the Spire I think has to be my second, perhaps a bit of a barrier to entry though as to succeed it requires quite careful planning and some maths, but winning a run is really really satisfying and I return to this game frequently to try and move up through the Ascension levels. Dead Cells was good but eventually felt a bit stale. I often ended up using the same weapons, and the difficulty scaling felt a bit steep (although I think recently the difficulty increases have been balanced a bit more). Streets of Rogue is really good for it's variability but lacks something, perhaps it's dull colour palette, a bit more colour could really push that game up the list. Everspace offered a really unique experience, but I had to stop playing not because of the gameplay but out of fear that boosting (clicking in on the stick) would cause joycon drift which has plagued my controller a few times. But really a very good game. Mana Spark I didn't really spend enough time with to give a well thought out opinion but for how cheap it usually is on the store, it seems pretty good.
The Binding of Issac is my favourite, if I can't think of what to play I just bung it in and can lose hours again or just a quick blast waiting for a telly programme to start for five minutes.
SwitchUp for me it has to be enter the gungeon as I loved the replay-ability it proved, and I have been looking for another similar too it. Isaac seems to be a promising one so I’ll have to give that a try
Played the demo last night and wondered if I'd just hyped it up in my head so glad you enjoyed it too Glen! Always love hearing your thoughts on these types of games ❤

Yeah but Exit The Gungeo is going to have a Huge Update in terms of gameplay and content. Check it out on steam, Devolver Digital already released a beta of the upcoming Big Update that will bring some features of comunity FeedBack. 😄

Great review. I Instant purchased... its a sidescroller, 2d 'Enter the super smash binding TV of rogue robotron legacy' game. Oh and the water relections are straight out of 'the killing game show' from psygnosis. I see a classic when its released. Team 17 gone back to roots and why i love them from the amiga years. Your reviews are always great fun to watch! One thing i want to mention though is that sometimes, a score below 20 doesn't really get explained in the video. Audio scored 17 or 18 out of 20 but you didn't critique anything about it. It just makes me curious to know why, whenever that is the case and i feel like a part of the description of the experience is apparently missing. Thank you for all the hard work you guys do, because man it's noticeable you both are really putting a hell of a lot of effort into covering a lot of games!

Love this game a hit with me for sure and I've been playing it everyday since it came out here in Australia. It's not perfect but hella fun 👌
If anybody is undecided on getting this, there’s a DLC character you can get for $2 which has a sword and makes the gameplay 100 times better. Tried the demo and decided to get it but when I got the DLC that’s when the gameplay opened up
I just played the demo and felt in love with this game. Reminds me a lot of Enter The Gungeon on mechanics and Katana Zero on Artistic Style. Just picked it up 4 hours ago 🙌🏻 Enjoying this masterpiece. I like ur channel Grettings From Perú! 😄
Same, and some bug fixes. This game has tons of potential. It's already pretty awesome as it is, but a few bug fixes and expansion(s), and this will rival Isaac.
Hello Glen, I absolutely loved this review, really informative and showed some great screens. I'm even more excited to buy this game. I have the demo which I love playing, The Binding of Issac is amazing but lacks what this game has in spades which is colour. OK, I'm off to play the demo again, thanks.
This would come out a few days after I get a 4k TV! I'll see if I can pick it up ASAP, roguelites/likes are my fave genre. Need to add it to the collection! Another great review as always
Look at you showing off your new and improved voice. Glad you got that taken care of. Thanks for the review! Yet another game that wasn't on my radar that I will have to check out.
I just yesterday, after 250 hours or so, beat every boss on Enter the Gungeon with no hits, receiving all 5 trophies. I still have more to do. This is a game I'll be watching. I'm worried about that lag on the bosses, but as soon as it hits a sale of around 15 I'd pick it up quick. You make great reviews and I appreciate your time and effort very much. Nice video! This review actually got me intrigued for the game, which I didn't think interested me just from the thumbnail. You guys seemed to quite like it, but it scored an 89, and it made me wonder what games scored higher. Do you have a matter list of the games you've reviewed that shows their scores and date reviewed? I didn't see one on a quick perusal of your website.

Thank you SO MUCH, Glen, for reviewing this!!! There was already NO DOUBT if I'd be purchasing this game, but--YES, I absolutely WILL BE picking this up! While everyone was clamoring on about the release of the new Paper Mario, I was counting the seconds till Neon Abyss hit the EShop! I played the DEMO on Steam when it first hit & then played the DEMO on Switch as soon as I heard about it! I was also excited when I first realized Team17 was involved with the game. Having their name attached to a game is always a good sign! They've published so many of my favorite games on the Switch... The only 2 things that disappoint me about Neon Abyss are the lack of co-op (as Glen mentioned) & the fact that there's no physical copy... Many of Team17's games generally get a physical release, so I found it a bit unusual (& crappy) that this wasn't getting an immediate physical release... Unlike alot of Switch fans, I refuse to "double-dip" when it comes to purchasing games... So, sadly, that means I won't be buying a physical version. It's unfortunate, because I think it has the potential to be one of my favs! Speaking of "favorites"--'Enter the Gungeon' is, of course, one of my favorite rougue-likes... One of my other favorites, surprisingly, is 'Blazing Beaks'! Maybe an odd choice, but whenever my wife & I can't figure out what to play, we fire up 'Blazing Beaks'! Another rogue-like that I JUST purchased the physical copy of yesterday was 'Rogue Legacy'! I saw that my local Best Buy had one copy left for $24 & I ended up buying it after I watched the SwitchUp review... So, thank you that! 👍 Like Neon Abyss, I think that one also has the potential to be one of my favorites of the genre! Anyhow, I love the channel, take care & thanks again for all the great work you guys do! PS- Hope Glen is doing well after his oral ordeal. Take care! 👍👍👍
I've been playing this game since last Friday and you guys didn't note the game breaking bug when you get to the 8th stage and defeat the boss? Pretty much halts your progression and you can't enter the portal. Guessing you didn't get that far, also there are alot more enemies than what you make out when you spend more of your upgrade points
No I haven't come across a bug of any description. Also, I didn't say there weren't lots of enemies, I said I wasn't overly keen on some of their designs. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt If you keep playing you will discover the bugs for sure, i discovered another yesterday, not sure if the day one patch has broken the game even more lol. Basically entered a treasure room which had no treasure in it so left the room, went into another room - nothing in that one either. Then teleported somewhere else and was left with a black screen with just the music playing RIP. I wasn't having a dig or anything, you're the number one place for switch reviews! i'm just suprised you guys didn't come across any bugs at all other than the terrible frame rate on a certain boss :)
I've run across a slowdown bug and the game has run into an error before. There are definitely a few bugs, but that's my only gripe. I just hope they fix them soon. I've seen a few other reviews saying the same thing. Not completely game breaking but definitely bothersome when it happens.
I was really excited for this but no couch co op is a deal breaker right now. My wife and I play these types of games together more than anything else so it's an essential feature. Such an odd thing to leave off
You know I always used to watch Nintendo life for my reviews but I have abandoned them for you guys. You are now my go to for switch reviews. Why? In depth review of all games, good variety of games but most of all you are genuine and honest. Far too many biased reviewers out there and I'm done with them. Love you guys!!
I’ve played over 30 hours and it is unplayable after you make it to the 4 manager due to it crashing because of the insane amount of items you get I had 25 eggs with 20 something little followers. On top of that I had 30 items cause I got that double treasure chest and 99 keys and the eye that sees all. I would enter rooms and it would just lag horribly ☹️
You lose the run but u get to keep all the progress the run unlocks. So if u beat a boss, it will crash, but it will count the boss as beaten and you can move on to the next boss.
Gonna pick this one up, just another to add to my collection of rouguelites to play on my train journey to work. Thanks once again switch up for an informative review 👌🔥
@@SwitchUpYt yes just love the variety of rouguelites outhere, this one's definitely gonna be up there amongst the greats and what a platform to play it on, the switch; cause of how mobile and that pick up and play anywhere vibe it gives, the reviews are fire bro keep em coming 🔥
I love Wizard of Legend because of the hundreds of combinations of relics, cursed relics, robes and arcana which make you feel super powerful at the end of a run. Got over 100 hrs in it even after unlocking all the Chaos Arcana (OP endgame spells) it's still fun figuring out what game breaking build you can make next. There is co-op and versus which is really fun too. Highly recommend but it does have a bit of a learning curve.
Oh and the theme of rouglikes makes me wonder, have you done a list of your favorite or most recommend rouglikes? As I’m a big fan of the genre but there are so many to choose from
Super fun game. I haven’t been struck by a good roguelike in a while, but this one does it for me. The graphics are great, the gameplay is fun, and the items feel satisfying to pick up. Great game.
Iv spent countless Sunday mornings googling roguelikes/lites looking for the next game to obsess over. I've been very lucky to have found games such as gundgeon, wizard or legands, has been heroes , cryptark, neuro-voider, one step from eden, rogues legacy, dead cells leap of faith, let it die , Isaac , nine parchments .... Blah. Obviously I'm a sucks for any game that even checks a few of the rogue genre boxes but iv never hear of noen abyss untill now. Looks like the perfect rogue and I can't wait to get it. How did this get past me?
Your reviews always help me figure out what indie game on switch I want, I defiantly get this one. Always love finding nterestong platformers. Iconalast I greatly enjoyed cause of you and few other games you reviews. Don't suppose recommend any decent shooter platformers by chance? Keep up the good work, your reviews help out a great deal. Don't kindness rogue likes either, as long as doesn't frustrate me and die too much. Lol can be frustrating sometimes
I love everything about this game, but it seriously needs some bug fixes PRONTO, and I'd appreciate an expansion later. If that happens, this is a 10/10 game.
I just drunkenly purchased this on Limited Run Games last weekend without knowing anything about it 😂 looks like drunk me scored though. This looks fun!
I thinl its a great game but the lag situations in some bossfights (or item combs) do kill it s bit for me. Really is frustrating if your run is ruined by that. Hope they can fix this, then I totally recommend (buying in russuan eshop is cheapest at the moment)
i was really looking forward to this, but the demo gave me kind a blah feeling...it just seemed kind of vanilla...people seem to be loving it though, so it is probably just me :D My favourites are Gungeon and Nuclear Throne...I was obsessed with Gungeon for a long time, now it is the turn of the Throne...the evil merciless bloody throne....
The aesthetics are pleasing and the way people are feeling about this game makes me want to pick it up. But how many games do I need that are like binding of Isaac or enter/exit the gungeon... my poor wallet.
@@LoloandMo lol idk about you, but I need them all, roguelikes and roguelites are my favorite :P ... All depends on your taste and how much you like these games. There's a demo if you're unsure. I happen to love it and I'm hoping there are some bug fixes soon and future expansions.
Yeah, I'm not really a roguelite fan either (I don't dislike it at all, it's just not my first genre that I gravitate toward), BUT I started playing this by chance. I was looking for something else, and this came up (xbox game pass suggested it, as a game similar to Record...which it isn't)...so now I am playing this. It's pretty good, but this genre isn't my first choice.
Dead Cells, top tier. For the price Mana Spark is fantastic. Enter the Gungeon is also great, I havent tried Exit the Gungeon yet. In your opinion is Neon Abyss better that Exit the Gungeon?
Guys, did the stutters get fixed on the full version? I encountered it on the demo its really is bad. This is basically a side scrolling binding of isaac. Almost a rip off
How does this compare to Fury Unleashed? You guys loved them both in your reviews. I am trying to choose between tho two and this demo got me more excited than fury, but I liked them both. Any later game or replayability differences that could away me one way or another (I won't be playing coop, I know that's a big one).
@@SwitchUpYt good to hear. This one (the demo at least) drew me in like Isaac and Gungeon do. I'm sure there's probably some science to egg hatching that'll be fun to figure out too. Thank you for the response. Keep up the good work.
I remember this, one few rouge lights that i touch lol. Wish we had more good platformer shooters, especially beautiful pixel or 2d art. Minus rogue-likes unless its one of those rogue likes that dont leave you fustrated
I guess if you buy the game during the 1st week of its release you will get two downloadable characters as well...I was sold at first sight of the cover art but I will take free DLC anytime
I didn't think I would be interested in this but it looks good, and I could use a new roguelite. The only thing that scares me off a little is that some clips here, especially from boss battles, look a little bullet hell-ish.
I said, it's with certain bosses. The bosses you get are random so you can't quantify it. On some runs the bosses you get won't cause it at all. On others, you might get two in a row that do. Glen
I play it on the lite. It sucks. Laggy when there is much shit on the screen and crashes regularly even when I beat the final boss and want to leave. That's so upsetting. I hope they will fix this soon.
Hi Glen and Mark! This looks amazing! I'm somewhat on the fence as I still need to sink more hours into Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon and Children of Morta, which are all great games. Also, I might pick up The Binding of Isaac first. Would you rather pick up Isaac or Neon Abyss?
They are incredibly similar actually albeit one is a 2D platformer and the other plays from a top down perspective. Isaac has a 2 player mode if this is something you want but Neon Abyss is a fair bit cheaper. I think Isaac is still my favourite - just - but you can't really go wrong with either. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt That makes for a hard choice then. I gotta say that I love the aesthetics of Neon Abyss, so that might pull me over the line. 2 player mode for Isaac seems fun, but I'm not sure whether I can get my girlfriend to play it with me. I'll take some time to decide while giving my wallet a little bit of rest. Also, great review as always!
The game is fun but has a lot of bugs (crashes, black screens, disappearing items, etc.) Thankfully, they don't happen too often, but when they do it really sucks bc it seems like it always happens on a good run lol
Things to consider ***BEFORE*** you buy this game: 1. Yes it is fun (to an extent) 2. The enemies are extremely repetitive in design and look. 3. The environment (the prison background texture) does NOT change. ever. period. So yeah... Kinda burned out by the repetitive levels. 4. The character designs are pretty cool (the playable characters that is) 5. The weapon variety could use an upgrade (the mods are fun though) 6. Bosses are not bad, interesting characters, needs more variety. I'm unfortunately having buyers remorse at the moment... :/ hopefully with some updates the game will get better.
Hey man I don’t know if you have contact with team 17 but as you continue to play the game there is a lot of glitches Bugs on the switch version The game crashes every so often, Beating of Of the managers makes the game crashes. Sometimes Can you teleport you get a black screen and there’s nothing you can do besides reset an amazing run I’m having a blast with the game but the constant crashes and glitches makes the game remotely unplayable at times

@SwitchUp This looks like a really cool game, thinking of picking it up. Might try the demo first to see how I feel, great review guys!
Thank you, much appreciated. Glen
Cheers Jennifer, that's the reason we made the channel! Mark
@@SwitchUpYt omg they replied :)
Great review as always
I’ve played over 30 hours and it is unplayable after you make it to the 4 manager due to it crashing because of the insane amount of items you get I had 25 eggs with 20 something little followers. On top of that I had 30 items cause I got that double treasure chest and 99 keys and the eye that sees all. I would enter rooms and it would just lag horribly ☹️
You lose the run but u get to keep all the progress the run unlocks. So if u beat a boss, it will crash, but it will count the boss as beaten and you can move on to the next boss.
BS Killa yes I know I’m stuck on ares I crash like one or two dungeons before him. So I can’t progress just farming now to unlock characters.
actuallly did not have this on my radar at all. i want to pick this up now.
Gonna pick this one up, just another to add to my collection of rouguelites to play on my train journey to work. Thanks once again switch up for an informative review 👌🔥
Nice one mate, glad you enjoyed it. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt yes just love the variety of rouguelites outhere, this one's definitely gonna be up there amongst the greats and what a platform to play it on, the switch; cause of how mobile and that pick up and play anywhere vibe it gives, the reviews are fire bro keep em coming 🔥
looks badass. didn.t even know it was coming!
Review BROFORCE it's a very fun game and i love the look of the game.
Also great video
Was there CoOp in this?
Unfortunately not. Glen
Put attention, Cody.
Great game.
I've got a physical copy ordered, it will look ace on my OLED.
I’m looking forward to this one I hope it’s as good as you make it sound!
Yeah, if you like your roguelites, this one's great. Glen
I have been waiting eons for it to get to $5 (75% off), but after revisiting this review I'm grabbing it now
Which one do you like more, Enter&Exit the Gungeon or this?
Personally, I prefer this but they are all great games. Glen
Perfect timing 👌
Cool game. Reminds me of a sidescrolling Enter the Gungeon.
I love everything about this game, but it seriously needs some bug fixes PRONTO, and I'd appreciate an expansion later. If that happens, this is a 10/10 game.
Heavy on the "pronto".
This looks super good
It is.
Great review. Nailed it 👊
Thank you!
I just drunkenly purchased this on Limited Run Games last weekend without knowing anything about it 😂 looks like drunk me scored though. This looks fun!
Yeah, good game!
Should I get this or enter the gungeon
Will it be getting a physical release? I hate having to buy downloads, would happily pay a premium to have it on a cartridge.
Game looks hella fun.. checked it out cus the LRG announcement but I hate waiting so I may grab it digitally
Had a blast with the demo, hate when it lags at the bosses. For the price, I'll pick it up until paper mario releases this week
Yeah, the lag is annoying. Glen
Origami King doesn't release until next month tho
Klyne Burr It’s out this Friday no?
SwitchUp Is it? I was thinking next month for some reason.
Check your local shops for it. Here in Texas I found it in Walmart last week
I thinl its a great game but the lag situations in some bossfights (or item combs) do kill it s bit for me. Really is frustrating if your run is ruined by that. Hope they can fix this, then I totally recommend (buying in russuan eshop is cheapest at the moment)
i was really looking forward to this, but the demo gave me kind a blah feeling...it just seemed kind of vanilla...people seem to be loving it though, so it is probably just me :D
My favourites are Gungeon and Nuclear Throne...I was obsessed with Gungeon for a long time, now it is the turn of the Throne...the evil merciless bloody throne....
This game is more in the vein of Binding of Isaac in feel than Nuclear Throne and Enter The Gungeon, I think.
This game is $15 right now n it will be for couple days more. Just picked it up n it dlc at $1.50. Enjoy
Man, it's a real shame they didn't put co-op into this game, it looks great
Yeah, co-op would have just topped it off. Glen
The artwork in this game is really just next level.
I am digging these weapons, they did a great job making them unique.
Im having a blast with this game!
Serious Daft Punk music vibes keeps me coming back!
Came for the colors, stayed for the music 😝
Dead Cells, top tier. For the price Mana Spark is fantastic. Enter the Gungeon is also great, I havent tried Exit the Gungeon yet. In your opinion is Neon Abyss better that Exit the Gungeon?
Also just a heads up if no one has said it yet, and if you have an Xbox One...this game is on Game Pass and its amazing 👍
Guys, did the stutters get fixed on the full version? I encountered it on the demo its really is bad.
This is basically a side scrolling binding of isaac. Almost a rip off
I'm hyped for this game! it's a day one pick up
Yeah, it's great. Glen
How does this compare to Fury Unleashed? You guys loved them both in your reviews. I am trying to choose between tho two and this demo got me more excited than fury, but I liked them both. Any later game or replayability differences that could away me one way or another (I won't be playing coop, I know that's a big one).
For me it's this one all day long. The weapon synergies and items are great here. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt good to hear. This one (the demo at least) drew me in like Isaac and Gungeon do. I'm sure there's probably some science to egg hatching that'll be fun to figure out too. Thank you for the response. Keep up the good work.
Really enjoy Dead cells and Wizard of Legend. I prefer rogue lites, I need some progress to stick, I'm horrible at roguelikes.
Maybe you'll like Hades too!
Wizard of Legend was a tedious grind. I seriously hope Neon Abyss is nothing like it.
Gawd this demo is amazing! I hope its good! Where is my review code?
I remember this, one few rouge lights that i touch lol. Wish we had more good platformer shooters, especially beautiful pixel or 2d art. Minus rogue-likes unless its one of those rogue likes that dont leave you fustrated
I guess if you buy the game during the 1st week of its release you will get two downloadable characters as well...I was sold at first sight of the cover art but I will take free DLC anytime
Yeah, they were a first week bonus I believe. Glen
This vs enter the gungeon?
Looks fantastic.
Yeah, it's great. Glen
I didn't think I would be interested in this but it looks good, and I could use a new roguelite. The only thing that scares me off a little is that some clips here, especially from boss battles, look a little bullet hell-ish.
Some of them have attack patterns that could be considered bullet hell-like. They are not too bad though. Glen
It's about on the level as Binding Of Isaac for bullet-hellishness. Occasionally very challenging but not unfair or frustrating at all.
How laggy is it, you said not often but it shouldn’t at all, is it a rare occasion with some guns or what?
I said, it's with certain bosses. The bosses you get are random so you can't quantify it. On some runs the bosses you get won't cause it at all. On others, you might get two in a row that do. Glen
Looks very reminiscent of rogue legacy, but I’m digging the art style in this more
I thought I was burnt out on platformers, but this looks amazing.
This is a roguelite, not a platformer
@@Maikeru101 What are the things the character is jumping on to progress in the level? It's a roguelike platformer.
Moonlighter is a lot of fun. I got it a little while back and finally started playing; I am really enjoying it.
That game has nothing to do with this dumb a***
I play it on the lite. It sucks. Laggy when there is much shit on the screen and crashes regularly even when I beat the final boss and want to leave.
That's so upsetting. I hope they will fix this soon.
imagine all the guns in enter the gungeon are in this game.
Are there achievments in-game like in Hollow Knight?
Played the demo, think this is "definitely a must buy but when it's on sale" for me.
Ian Charles you know if game drops at midnight?
@@DarthRa1der drops a 3am est on switch. already out on ps4. steam getting it at like the next day
@@DarthRa1der believe it's out today sometime.
The game is fun but has a lot of bugs (crashes, black screens, disappearing items, etc.) Thankfully, they don't happen too often, but when they do it really sucks bc it seems like it always happens on a good run lol
It happens Everytime I get to Hal. It crashes or goes black Everytime I'm about to defeat him. It's such BS.
@@natehuntington1175 it did that to me too, the good news is that you do get to keep the progress of having beaten the boss even if the game crashes
Things to consider ***BEFORE*** you buy this game:
1. Yes it is fun (to an extent)
2. The enemies are extremely repetitive in design and look.
3. The environment (the prison background texture) does NOT change. ever. period. So yeah... Kinda burned out by the repetitive levels.
4. The character designs are pretty cool (the playable characters that is)
5. The weapon variety could use an upgrade (the mods are fun though)
6. Bosses are not bad, interesting characters, needs more variety.
I'm unfortunately having buyers remorse at the moment... :/ hopefully with some updates the game will get better.
This game and REZ PLZ will be my pick over Paper Mario for sure.
If you thought it as stuttering with one player having lots of equips and stuff. Imagine it with 2 players simultainously.
Nice, something to shake up the dry spell we’re having.
