I’ve been playing the game for about 15 hours, and I really love it. I bought it, Black Ops 4 and AC Odyssey all within a few days, and I really only get the urge to play Starlink. I wish it focused a little less on ground based combat and more in combat in space, but the game is still amazing. The comparisons to No Man’s Sky sound ridiculous until you actually play it. It has very similar visuals and a similar feel (though it seems odd that every reviewer compares it to that and Mass Effect, as if they are just reading off the publisher’s review kit documentation). The graphics are insanely good on Switch, and I was never disappointed in the performance and frame rate, and that is coming from someone who is mainly PC Master Race.

I bought mine for $14+ tax CAD from Best Buy. I’m really surprised how good this game is. It’s pretty open world, and even into space. I’ve also just found out you can rid the ships for seven days and play with only the controller. Even on normal it’s surprisingly challenging.
It’s surprising to me how much higher this ranks for you all as compared to André from gamexplain. Hopefully you join them for a future discussion on this Alex.

This game looks so beautiful! I cannot wait to play this game! I was hesitant about purchasing it at first because toys to games are not my thing. However, this one seems so refined! I love that you can interchange parts in real time and the worlds seem massive and filled with things to explore. Can’t wait until tomorrow!
I just completed the game! For me Starlink Battle of Atlas is the best game for the Nintendo Switch! So I got this today for the launch of the game and I must say this game is insane!! I'm so damn happy as Star Fox fan I wouldn't be happier to have this until the next entry in the franchise!
To answer my own question, it looks like the answer is no. Very nice breakdown here: www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/10/guide_starlink_buyers_guide_-_what_you_get_in_the_physical_and_digital_editions
I'm so happy right now. Been watching reviews of this game all week, trying to decide if I wanted to pay the MSRP for it, since I've been unable to catch it on sale. I decided to wait for Black Friday, and got the Deluxe digital edition this morning for $15. I can't wait to get into this bad boy.
Hey Alex I have a question, does the digital version allow you to change vehicle parts or flip weapons around? I don't know if you said it already in the video haha 😌
If I get the physical starter pack, what weapon pack should I get? Which weapon type is the most important type to have in the game that doesn't come in the base pack?
@@andrewtong7068 go to the eshop and select the starlink game. Scroll down and hit the read more button. Once you do this it will pull up a bunch of other Information that wasnt there before. Well I didn't see that one coming, I also thought it was gonna be some cheaply made, not very interesting game like Skylanders, something with just a very surface level appeal to some kids with the toys and all. But now I'm honestly having a hard time keeping myself from buying it, I've been wanting to play something like this for a while and I think this is it. Also if the co op implementation is good I'll get my hands on this for sure. :3
If you mean a standalone physical version, no. The physical version co.comes in the starter packs, you'll have to go digital if you want to bypass the Toys to life element.
Yeah it's around £60 if you create an account for use with the Mexican eShop (~£45 for the standard edition). www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/9my7mf/psa_if_you_were_thinking_of_buying_digitally/
I'm just curious if you really need more than just the starfox ship. Are any missions unavailable if you don't have all ships/pilots other than the exclusive starfox mission? and if anyone can answer this for me, please also like my comment so I get a notification on my phone. Thanks!
Nice. Definetely buy, question is, now or later, toy or digital?? One question though. You said the digital deluxe comes with all the weapons, if you buy the standard edition can you unlock all those weapons in the game or are they deluxe exclusive?
GANTZ100pts no, bascially how it works is if you use a physical ship, you can only use the items you have physically, but you can just swap back over to digital by using the regular controller and will still be able to use the ships you own physically in the digital version
Is that the official Corneria theme for when you use Fox in the game near the beginning of the video? If so, props to whoever at Ubisoft who remixed that theme because that's probably the most faithful official rendition of the original Corneria theme I've ever heard.
Jacob chamberlain you can make insane ships digitally as well, the game gives you the options to use left wings on the right side (or vice versa) flip them so they're facing the wrong way, slap more wings on your wings (i don't know the limit on it since i only have the two ships from the starter pack) and even flip your guns backwards if you feel so inclined
I got super lucky. I bought the digital version that was $59.99 for 75% off. It was almost like nintendo knew I wanted the game and knew I wouldn't get it unless there was a deal because it was the original price when I first set eyes on it, but when I refreshed the page, it magically went on sale for 75% off lol. Lucky me. :P
I feel like you'd be missing out on quite a bit of content and the appeal of the game if you didn't get the Switch version. Fox is the reason this game is catching my attention.
Nah you can have one player playing physically while one plays digitally, both playing digitally, or if you get a second controller mount (Co Op kit) you can both play physically.
@@sniperfox47 That's nice, that was my only concern with the game at this point since I don't want any of the toys. If that's the case I'm surely gonna pick it up. Thanks for the answer. :3
I love open world exploration games especially on the Nintendo switch Zelda BoTW Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Skyrim StarLink Ys viii This are my favorite open world on switch, please let me know if I missed any good open world game on switch
My dilemma I don't have the internet to download sizable games like this but if I buy physical then impulse will get the better of me and I'll be spending god-knows what just for collection's sake
Yes, the toys unlock the digital version of themselves temporarily (I think a week?), and digital purchases unlock forever (you can, apparently, mix and match what you buy phisically and digitally)
kaiserpeter0 no, i own the physical game and have played split screen with a friend of mine, and you can still use the ships you buy digitally, it's just that if you use the physical ships you won't be able to access the digital ones, which is easy enough to get around by just not using the physical ones, as you can use them digitally as well
Leaving the cockpit = No Man's Sky Mini. Also, in that last bit (at the end of the video where NL talks about his own views), I really like going into the huge ship. It reminds me of finding hidden underground areas in Horizon Zero Dawn. Very cool!
It definitely looks like No Man's Sky and has that art style, kind of, but this game's arcadey gameplay makes it much more accessible. It's the perfect fit for switch.
The Digital Deluxe is about $5 more than the physical starter kit and includes (for the switch version) 10 pilots, 6 ships, and 16 weapons. The physical starter only includes 2 pilots, 2 ships, and 4 weapons in contrast.Digital is way cheaper.
Update from the future. If you want to buy this for switch but don't want to pay a scalper for the toys and don't want to give Ubisoft more money than required and you have an android with NFC capability, you can download some fee apps that can program blank NFC's with the toy id's. There are a decent amount of videos to tell you how to do that and the NFC's are like $5 for 150 or so. I use it for Breath of the Wild and it works perfectly.
Ok, thank you. That's what I figured, but the way the reviewers make it sound when they say "you don't have to use the toys, you can just buy the starships digitally" I thought you had to re-purchase them in order to play it both digitally and physically
Hmm That makes sense, ensures you still own the toy I was only asking because I'd probably wanna play in handheld mode a lot and if the physical version didn't support it I would've gone with digital Thanks!
It's unclear what digital version they are describing in this FAQ, but either way both the starter and deluxe will include Star Fox. starlink.ubisoft.com/game/en-us/faq
So let me try and understand the differences between the versions, and correct me if I'm wrong, please; the physical starter version has everything locked behind the toys, the Digital version has everything, including Star Fox, locked via a natural progression system with nothing missing, and Digital Deluxe is everything at once with no exclusive content to it?
TheSMBZfan1 no physical toys unlock that part and give you a timed (7 days) digital copy. Any digital pack is unlocked right away and you can use everything in that pack. Ingame you find mods to enhance your ships and weapons
Marchel van Leeuwen - I'll be honest, you worded it in a way I don't understand, so let me see if I understand by asking these; You're saying that the physical copies allow you to play the Digital version for 7 days and then you have to play with the toys? And you're also saying that the Digital copies have everything accessible? If I misinterpreted you at all, feel free to correct me.
TheSMBZfan1 the physical toys give you a digital copy that you can use for 7 days before you need to attach them again to renew the digital copy. Any digital item you buy is forever unlocked after purchase.
Physical ships unlock digital copies for a short period (1 week) after using them, allowing you to play digitally with your toys. The Physical starter pack (talking for the switch) comes with 2 pilots (Physical Fox and Mason), 2 ships (Physical Arwing and Digital only Zenith), and 4 weapons (Physical Flamethrower and Frost Barrage, Digital only Shredder, and the arwing lasers built into the arwing wings). That's 2,2, and 4 The Digital Starter pack includes 7 Pilots from the main crew (Above + Judge, Chase, Hunter, Razor, and Levi), 5 Ships from the main crew (Above + Neptine, Pulse, and Lance), and 13 Weapons (Above + Levitator, Volcano, Imploder, Iron Fist, Alt. Freeze Ray, Crusher, Super Gatling, Shockwave, and Alt. Gauss). That's 7, 5, and 13. The Digital Deluxe pack includes all 10 Pilots (Above + Eli, Kharl, and Shaid), all 6 ships (above + Nadir), and all 16 weapons (Above + Nullifier, Hailstorm, and Alt. Meteor). That's 10, 6, and 16. None of the packs include the 2 Retailer Exclusive ships, Scramble (Levi) and Cerberus (Razor). These are only recoloured versions of parts from other ships with Identical stats. None of them include the Fury Canon from the Scramble Vehicle pack which is expected to just be a slightly different cosmetic on an existing weapon, but it's unknown for sure. If it is a unique weapon it's expected to be a part of toy wave 2. And finally none of them come with the pilot Startail who was a preorder bonus in the UK and Australia. He's totally unique in design and has a unique ability. He's expected to be released as part of toy wave 2. There is going to be a paid digital upgrade for the wave 2 toys if you play digitally.
Best information in this video: I can get everything without buying all the physical toys. It looks like a pretty cool game but unfortunately it has to wait, because Diablo 3 will be my next big Switch game
Short answer: yes
Long answer: star fox
I absolutely loved this game. I’m still playing it,

Would donate to GreatFox Gaming
Everyone donate 1$ per barrel roll

Hmm, other reviews had me reconsidering, but I may have to re-reconsider after yours? Lol
I trust Nintendo Life Reviews over most especially Eurogamer who have this a questionable 3/5 with alot of sketchy complaints.
Is there a regular physical form of the game toys sold separately but usable
If you mean a standalone physical version, no.
The physical version co.comes in the starter packs, you'll have to go digital if you want to bypass the Toys to life element.
£90 for the deluxe digital edition. That is absolutely mad.
Yeah it's around £60 if you create an account for use with the Mexican eShop (~£45 for the standard edition). www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/9my7mf/psa_if_you_were_thinking_of_buying_digitally/
They're absolute MAD LADs
@@edArmstrong80 because Mexicans dont get as much money as people in the US or UK. Its equal if you look at it in an inflation kind of way
Here in Mexico the diital deluxe is about the equivalent of $60usd
@@Elegies22 Nope, almost all other games are equally or more expenaive than the USD equivalent
So if I go digital, but then get a physical ship of one I already have in game, I can no longer just use it digitally?
Lifeoflink Hyrule i guess if you got that ship digital before getting a physical version you keep your original digital ship
If you have the physical version can you still play with the Arwing in handheld mode?
I'm just curious if you really need more than just the starfox ship. Are any missions unavailable if you don't have all ships/pilots other than the exclusive starfox mission?
and if anyone can answer this for me, please also like my comment so I get a notification on my phone. Thanks!
Nice. Definetely buy, question is, now or later, toy or digital??
One question though. You said the digital deluxe comes with all the weapons, if you buy the standard edition can you unlock all those weapons in the game or are they deluxe exclusive?
zwippie92 this is my question and does each ship come with its own quests like blades do in Xenoblade?
You would have to buy those weapons in the game (real money), No quests for the ships unless you consider the Starfox content as Arwing quests...
Dammit. Now I got to think here, what to do, what to buy... Probably gonna take a while before I buy the game then, too bad.
Got an ad for Starlink whilst watching a review for Starlink...DOUBLE ADVERTISING!
...although it's a bit late. Already preordered the game.
Alex, are you by any chance also a blacksmith?
I might of miss herd that but 5:43 so if get the Digital deluxe version but then use the Toys at ANY POINT I LOSE all of the Digital pieces?
GANTZ100pts no, bascially how it works is if you use a physical ship, you can only use the items you have physically, but you can just swap back over to digital by using the regular controller and will still be able to use the ships you own physically in the digital version
Question
If I'm getting the physical version, and want to play on the go is that possiable or do I have to always have the toy with me?
Ubisoft release figures of Falco, Slippy, Peppy and Wolf.
Is that the official Corneria theme for when you use Fox in the game near the beginning of the video? If so, props to whoever at Ubisoft who remixed that theme because that's probably the most faithful official rendition of the original Corneria theme I've ever heard.
Great job. 👍🏼 Lots of good info for us newbies in this video.
i didnt hear. can you build how you want if you only get the digital deluxe (crazy builds) or is that only if you buy the toys?
Lucky me. :P
Same with me...

Oh yeah, I like my planetary systems with planets. XD
Do you know anything about the direct
I had to put on my own music after a few minutes because the video loops the same music bed all throughout.
So if you buy the physical copy with the ships. Can you play without attaching the ships to the controllers?
You gotta use the mount at least once every seven days.
Do we need the different type of elemental weapons to complete the game?
Billy Hall no. Ubisoft has stated that you may see recommendations for weapons, but you will be able to finish the game with just the starterpack
@@marcch72 yes but 100% the game?
Billy Hall haven’t played the game yet but i guess some battles will be easier with a bigger choice of ships and weapons.
I just quoted Ubisoft
I feel like you'd be missing out on quite a bit of content and the appeal of the game if you didn't get the Switch version. Fox is the reason this game is catching my attention.
so do you need to pay for fox and the r wing or is it already in the game after the download
Fox and his ship are included in all Switch versions of the game
Braden Van Wagoner thanks
There's one thing I need to know tho, is it absolutely necessary to have a physical ship thingy in order to play in co-op?
Destinny Bunny no it is not needed
@@FireHero Ohh cool! I was confused since the e-shop says it's single player. :p
I love open world exploration games especially on the Nintendo switch
Zelda BoTW
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Skyrim
StarLink
Ys viii
This are my favorite open world on switch, please let me know if I missed any good open world game on switch
Une cuestion can you use the arwing and fox withow the toy?
Are the other ships and characters unlockable via game play or is all that content strictly DLC?
All ships, pilots and weapons are unlocked via paid-DLC. Which is way the digital version is so tempting for me.
How does it play in handheld mode?
Great review. Got me off the fence- let's rock and roll!
someone please tell me what song was playing @ 0:21
Kentaro Ishizaka - Corneria
How's the framerate? I think that's pretty important in an action-based title like this one
I was trying to search videos on the starlink satelites and this is what youtube recommended as the first video on the list. haha
My dilemma
I don't have the internet to download sizable games like this
but if I buy physical then impulse will get the better of me and I'll be spending god-knows what just for collection's sake
Be aware there is a 6GB download required for the physical version unfortunately. :(
go to Starbucks and download there 😈
So does that mean we can play without using the toys with the physical copy of the game?
Yes, the toys unlock the digital version of themselves temporarily (I think a week?), and digital purchases unlock forever (you can, apparently, mix and match what you buy phisically and digitally)
Wait so splitscreen is only available for the digital version? And you can't get any more ships unless you actually BUY them for the physical one?
kaiserpeter0 no, i own the physical game and have played split screen with a friend of mine, and you can still use the ships you buy digitally, it's just that if you use the physical ships you won't be able to access the digital ones, which is easy enough to get around by just not using the physical ones, as you can use them digitally as well
Leaving the cockpit = No Man's Sky Mini.
Can you play as only Fox instead of switching around? Is the game less fun if I only play Fox?
excited to play picked myself the starter pack !
Is it more expensive to buy all physical or go digital deluxe?
Rey Zephlyn physical is more expensive, depending on if you want all of it
The Digital Deluxe is about $5 more than the physical starter kit and includes (for the switch version) 10 pilots, 6 ships, and 16 weapons. The physical starter only includes 2 pilots, 2 ships, and 4 weapons in contrast.Digital is way cheaper.
Does digital include the weapons the toys have?
Rey Zephlyn yes
@@marcch72 Ty
Update from the future. If you want to buy this for switch but don't want to pay a scalper for the toys and don't want to give Ubisoft more money than required and you have an android with NFC capability, you can download some fee apps that can program blank NFC's with the toy id's. There are a decent amount of videos to tell you how to do that and the NFC's are like $5 for 150 or so. I use it for Breath of the Wild and it works perfectly.
The game doesnt use NFC, please research a bit before commenting
Just to say that you get a digital zenith starship and a digital shredder weapon with the starter pack as well
So if I want to play in docked at home and handled at work, I have to buy the game twice or I have to buy the ships twice?
You just buy it once
I think the toys last digitally for a few days before having to attach them to refresh
Ok, thank you. That's what I figured, but the way the reviewers make it sound when they say "you don't have to use the toys, you can just buy the starships digitally" I thought you had to re-purchase them in order to play it both digitally and physically
Yeah the physical versions unlock a digital copy of that same item for 7 days, which refreshes when you connect them again.
Thank you, guys!
does it have Uplay Actions?
Is Andros in this
Once you scan in a ship physically the first time, can you access it digitally?
Yes, but you keep them digitally for seven days.
Hmm
That makes sense, ensures you still own the toy
I was only asking because I'd probably wanna play in handheld mode a lot and if the physical version didn't support it I would've gone with digital
Thanks!
Easily in the top-10 games I wanna get for the Switch when I'm finally able to cobble together enough money to get one in a couple of months. 😍
So should I get it Digitally?
Ryan Morrow do you need fox? Then no. Otherwise yes
Do you get fox and the arwing in the digital version?
Andrew Tong no you dont. At least nothing is mentioned in the eshop, so that’s the conclusion I came to ^^
How do you know you get him in the download? I’ve seen conflicting information and it’s a deal breaker if I don’t get fox
I see, so it's impossible to rent the physical version to try the game based on that logic. OK, thanks.
That's 2,2, and 4
The Digital Starter pack includes 7 Pilots from the main crew (Above + Judge, Chase, Hunter, Razor, and Levi), 5 Ships from the main crew (Above + Neptine, Pulse, and Lance), and 13 Weapons (Above + Levitator, Volcano, Imploder, Iron Fist, Alt.
This really looks like an amazing game, but due to the high price, I do think think I will be picking this up anytime soon.
Nows your chance! It's on 85% sale digital
I bought this for the switch this morning. Downloaded but unplayable. Does anyone know the release time for the U. S. East coast time?
Best information in this video: I can get everything without buying all the physical toys. It looks like a pretty cool game but unfortunately it has to wait, because Diablo 3 will be my next big Switch game
10:51 I love that 'angry Nintendo face' cue there!
can you leave the toys on they joycons and play with the pro controller??
Awesome Elite Dangerous mention. So many reviewers talking about mainstream spaceship games tend to not realize that game exists.
Is there any kind of online playability?
did I get something wrong? isn´t switch running on 720p? Why is this a 1020p upload?
