About the Speaker:
Dr. Christophe Jaffrelot is Senior research fellow at CERI-Sciences Po/CNRS, Professor of Indian Politics and Sociology at the King’s India Institute (London), President of the French Political Science Association and Chair of the British Association for South Asian Studies. He works as a Non Resident Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and as a Permanent Consultant at the Centre for Policy Planning Staff of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among his recent publications are, "The Pakistan Paradox. Instability and Resilience", London, Hurst; New York, Oxford University Press; New Delhi, Random House, 2015, (as a co-editor with A. Kohli and K. Murali) "Business and Politics in India" (OUP, 2019) and (as a co-editor with A. Chatterji and T.B. Hansen) "The Majoritarian State. Two main thing you have to remember 1. Hinduism is pluralistic by nature...A Hindu doesn't have any problem if you want to pray any other god or follow any religion unless you disturb them.
2. the current movement of hindu unity is only because of divicive politics by nehru and congress where you appease Muslims by giving them unimaginable favours and facilities just for votes. imagine muslum population grew from 6% to 20% in 50 years
I'll Summarise with this. Why Pakistan lag far behind India, is the prime example of why Muslims lag behind India.
One important fact of India. In a Muslim dominated constituency, there has never been a Hindu representation to the Lok Sabha. On the other hand, that’s not the norm in Hindu dominated constituent. Again in those Muslim dominated constituents, the talk is mostly about religion. On the other hand, there is universal talk (mainly development) in non Muslim dominated areas.
Sanatan idealogy is secular in nature, which promotes pluralism, hence India 🇮🇳 is secular.
I totally disagree with the guest lecturer. We never discriminate against the minority. We work hand and hand. In my professional career and personal, I have many Muslim friends. I stay in Mumbai. Even after the Mumbai serial blasts and 26/11, there were no riots in Mumbai. That itself shows the social harmony we have.
I think professor Hoodbhyo should have more visualisation on the internal problem of Pakistan not India. That is the main problem of Pakistan, they spend all the good time investing in others instead of them.

Truth will never be spoken that Nehru prohibited entry of Sadhus to North East India . After 1947, Verrier Elwin ( who began his career in India as a Christian missionary.) was asked by Nehru to find solutions to the problems that emerged among the tribal peoples living in the far northeastern corner of India, the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA). Elwin entered into an agreement with Nehru which prohibited the entry of Sadhus into Nagaland .[11]
Since Dr Parvez Hoodboy talks about the Aryan Invasion Theory and looks for scientific evidence, I feel he should visit Rakhigarhi in Haryana and the Central DNA institute in India based in Lucknow that has done extensive ancient DNA mapping of the region. Since he is a scientist he would appreciate the extensive scientific work done in this space by Indian geneticists, archaeologists and scientists that provides a verifiable thesis on migration from Harappa (Rakhigarhi and other regions) to other regions in Asia. Would be an interesting exercise if you could get them on your show to probe and discuss this extensively.

when a community has been given rights to manage your institutions in the Indian constitution, which in give rise to madrasas, then expecting more IAS, IPS from the same community is asking for too much, the community leaders of this minority has immensely failed them, therefore Uniform civil code is the need of the hour, so every section of the society can flourish together, other than thinking every thing is a conspiracy by yahood or hanood to marginalize this certain community.

As an outsider, while it is true that hindu nationalism is on the rise in India, it is still far more tolerant of minorities than Pakistan. Minorities of all sorts are all but gone in Pakistan. So instead of looking at the "plights" of Indian muslims in India, it is perhaps more productive to reflect on the plights of non-muslims in Pakistan.

Just as a point of reference I do not think most people know the name of Savarkar in India, let alone his views or teachings and just like anybody's teachings I am sure it has merits and demerits. And another data point which would be of interest to know is that the often referred RSS has around 500,000 members across the country with a population of 1.4B and frankly we hear of it talked more in Pakistan than in India. I think the idea of what India is influenced by and where it is going is understood in bits and pieces and without belittling the experts have to say, do not have the larger picture right. Most studies unfortunately look for the fault lines in India and so based on the couple of wounds on the body (often that itself is misunderstood) think that the whole body is nothing but a wound. The truth is no society is without problems and some will be solved, some will fester longer and other new ones will emerge in a fast running, growing, debating and friction filled dynamic country. Just like people who think India has 2 official languages (Hindi and English) instead of the 14 enshrined in its constitution, just like India will always be known and called with equal comfort as Bharat or Hindustan and just like not only are the many many Gods in India, each of them are also known by many names and those who pray to them pray using their own preferred name.......the idea and functioning of India will be difficult to grasp unless you appreciate both the letter and spirit of it and that it is pluralism which defines it.
Whether the muslim ratio of IAS officers or IPS officers is growing is one aspect, the fact that the ratio of Muslims in the population has grown seems not to be noticed, something which Pakistan probably will notice the reverse is true for itself of its minorities and even more pathetic will be their representation in any of the senior government or politically elected positions. It is another point of discussion as to why in a highly meritocratic structure like IAS or IPS positions why somebody is not making it - will make this already longish write up too long
Do find it interesting that Pakistan which by constitution deems any non muslim not even to be an equal citizen and does not allow it to be a PM or President of the country, by laws does not treat its women as equal (the Qanun-e-Shahadat Order, 1984 -Law of Evidence-in Pakistan requires two women witnesses to equate to one man), has a draconian Blasphemy law to victimize its minorities and most concerning, in schools through text books systematically inculcates prejudice towards India and Hindus through historical revisionism is really going about worrying what is happing to women and minorities in India.
If this is an intellectual forum where more reasonable people are supposed to be found, suggest shine a light on yourself and fix your problems which there are plenty - social, political and economical.
Hindu is not a religion, it's a identity that we were called because we live east to Indus river... every person who lives beyond Indus are hindus... but the religion of so called hindus is Sanatana Dharma... hence Savarkar was right that Hindus are race, even muslim living here are of same race... there is no ambiguity about this
